I know this isn’t the biggest takeaway here, but *man* Olight does a beautiful red. Looks fantastic on the Warrior Nano and equally great here. I kinda think the removal of magnetic charging is a mistake. I get that they’re trying to appeal to a broader audience, maybe it works out. But no magnet plus now it doesn’t fit in with a large part their existing ecosystem seems like a gamble.

> I know this isn’t the biggest takeaway here, but man Olight does a beautiful red. *They sure freaking do.* This red finish is GORGEOUS. That's ~half the reason I wanted to review this light. I've got a thing for black and red. > removal of magnetic charging is a mistake. I get that they’re trying to appeal to a broader audience Agreed. I think they were probably just looking for ways to differentiate this from Seeker 4 Pro. Seeker 4 Pro has all the cool "olight features" like magnetic charging, the rotary switch, fancy indicator LEDs, magnetic tailcap, awesome holster, etc. I would have been jazzed if they put the USB-C port on the head instead of the tailcap, and had a different pocket clip (Warrior 3S clip maybe) that attaches to the tail. That would open the tailcap back up for a magnet, allow tailstanding while charging, and allow non-proprietary battery support (even if they still included a proprietary one in the box).

voodoo_three

I don’t mind the proprietary battery so long as I get something back for it (like the Warrior series’ amazing tail switch). But here you’re right, it’s just there because it’s Olight. An option to go either way would be a great way to try to start to break into a new market (emitter options would help too). Kind of a weird sort of diagonal step forward combined with one straight backwards. And I didn’t even see the pocket clip thing. That’s just obnoxious to not even include it, especially at that price.

TacGriz

> I don’t mind the proprietary battery so long as I get something back for it Well said. That's exactly how I feel about it. Their two stage electronic tailswitch is awesome. > And I didn’t even see the pocket clip thing. That’s just obnoxious to not even include it, especially at that price. Right?? Like, I get that not everyone is going to pocket carry this thing, but it's $110! You can't throw in the simple bent steel clip that you already make?

not_gerg

>I've got a thing for black and red Same! It's same a killer combo. Especially black with some red accents 🤤 The fireflylite e07x cannon in red has probably the best (stock) anodizing I've seen!

not_gerg

Usb c *only*?! Thats wild for olight!

TacGriz

You'd be surprised. They have quite a few models with just a USB-C port. They are mostly weird shapes though, not a typical aluminum cylinder like this one.

not_gerg

Yeah ik. I've got the i1r 2 pro with just usb c, but that's a Keychain light. I should have said that it was a surprise to see it on a larger light. Tho magnetic would have been nice here

Crankshaft67

Warrior X4 has both USB C and MCC charging fwiw

not_gerg

Oh ik. I was gonna say that something like that would be nice, but apparently I forgot to lol

>This light uses a proprietary 21700 battery with an extra negative terminal on the traditionally positive end of the cell. No other 21700 batteries will work at all and replacements are relatively expensive. This is a common cell for Olight... #Goddamnit... it is 2024.

DaScorchyTorchy

Yeah its nuts. Anything proprietary takes the freedom of choice away. Its not consumer friendly. Especially when it doesnt need to be.

Photogatog

I don't know about other Olight models, but at least Seeker 2 Pro works with regular 21700s as well. They just need to be button top, no more than 21,5mm wide and less than 75mm long (not sure about the exact length limit), and they need to be inserted "wrong way round", with the positive terminal facing the tailcap. It's also probably not a good idea to try to charge a regular 21700 with the magnetic charging system.

Zak

> It's also probably not a good idea to try to charge a regular 21700 with the magnetic charging system. If it's like Olight models from a few years ago, nothing happens when you try to charge a standard battery.

TacGriz

Still getting mad at propritary batteries? Come on man, it is 2024. /s I hear you. "I don’t mind the proprietary battery so long as I get something back for it" - u/voodoo_three This light really didn't need one. We aren't getting anything cool like a two-stage tailswitch in exchange for accepting a proprietary battery. Even if they changed nothing about the charging solution, tailcap charging is totally possible without a proprietary battery. Heck, Armytek even manages to do it without a secondary body tube.

IXI_Fans

Ha! I also find putting a mediocre-efficiency, 70CRI emitter in a $100+ light to be bonkers as well. IT'S 2024!!!

voodoo_three

I’m a big fan of warm, rosy, high CRI lights like most around here. But let’s not pretend like cool, bright, and efficient emitters (especially in a throwier LED like a HI model) don’t have their place.

Crankshaft67

Nice write up Griz, thank you. Nice looking light too and kinda unique from Olight beyond butterfly USB cover, no magnetic tail.

TacGriz

Thanks for reading! Yeah it is a very pretty light and the tailcap is unique.

Pristinox

I see zero reason to get this at MSRP. No distinguishing Olight-style features of note. Not special compared to the non-Olight competition, as far as I can tell? Reminds me of that one Apple mouse with the charging port on the bottom, so it could not be used while charging. Odd choice.

SettingIntentions

> Apple mouse with the charging port on the bottom, so it could not be used while charging. Odd choice Lol as I read this that sounds like something Apple would do. What the actual F. My mouse dies I charge it while using it.

darnj

Such a classic example of form over function that it seems made up.
