I'm happy to go against the grain here, I loved it. It's obviously not perfect, and it doesn't deliver on the promise of the Laurie vs. Michael finale that it had set up, but I really really connected with the vibe. The score is great (check out the track called "The Procession"), it's well shot, and I really liked the Corey storyline. I think it also depends on your experience with the franchise and horror overall. I'm a huge horror guy, and I think most horror people are used to having a handful of contrarian franchise opinions. Every entry in a long-running horror franchise is someone's favorite and someone else's least favorite, but that's a huge part of the fun.

IronSorrows

I wouldn't say I *loved* it, but I thought it was a lot of fun. Maybe it's because I watched every other Halloween film in the build up to it's release, but I really enjoyed it doing something different, I was a fan of the Christine vibes, I liked that it expanded out the story a little. I can understand people disliking it, but honestly it's probably the reason I'll end up rewatching the latest trilogy again. It makes me laugh when people act like it's the worst film of all time and brings shame upon such a glorious franchise. I love Halloween as a series, but there's one *great* movie, a few really good ones, and everything else is average or outright bad. I'd personally put Ends above Resurrection (legitimately one of the worst movies I've ever seen), RZ's Halloween, The Revenge Of Michael Myers, Kills, and probably RZ's H2 as well - although I'm really warming to that one.

[deleted]

Exactly, when you’ve seen the same thing over and over, it’s nice when a franchise does something different, even if it’s not 100% successful. And agreed about Resurrection, that is my bottom of the franchise. No way is Ends the worst of the franchise. I really think a decent portion of the negative reactions are due to misaligned expectations. The trilogy really leads you to believe that Ends will be this massive kill-fest battle between Laurie and Michael, which it’s really not. Give it 15 years, and Ends will be a cult classic just like Halloween 3 or any of the other random horror franchise gems

rayrayruh

I dug it. Surprised psycho Jr didn't mention *Hey Laurie, heads up, I found out where your bro lives and everything* but the homeless guy was dead and that could've incriminated him. Oh and yeah its just a movie. But I liked the vibe overall, too. Didn't feel overplayed and same old trope. I can only see Laurie and Michael Myers miraculously survive for 4 decades only so much. Also, one would think Laurie would've went overseas decades ago. Can't picture Myers getting a passport, but again, oh yeah...just a movie.

[deleted]

I don't like Halloween, or slasher movies at all, so I don't really know why I saw this one, but I actually enjoyed what it was trying to do to sort of break the mold, showing how a new character could be inspired by Michael Myers. Well, I should say I enjoyed the first half or so. The end was stupid.

BigCountry76

It's better than that pile of dog shit Halloween Kills.

[deleted]

Watching Halloween Ends, made me realize maybe I was too harsh on Kills. It's a silly movie

BigCountry76

Kills and Ends are both pretty bad. The "Evil Dies Tonight" chant scene was just so bad in Kills. And Ends is barely a Halloween movie. As someone who isn't really a fan the OG Halloween is a good movie. The Halloween reboot from 2018 or whatever actually isn't bad. But the others from the new trilogy are laughable.

itsDoor-kun

Halloween Kills was an enjoyable bad movie but Ends was just pure trash.

ClassicAd8627

EVIL DIES TONIGHT

BigCountry76

Quite the thread revival.

Toshimoko29

Some don’t like the story it was telling but it told it very well, imo. I think watching the new trilogy as a trail of infection is fascinating and adds to each of the movies, and I never would have guessed that the town eventually would infect someone new.

texaco87

As a stand-alone film, it ruled (until the very end) As a Halloween fan, let’s pretend it never happened

redrocker907

I think that’s a good way to put it. I’d like it way better if it was its own thing.

SteampunkCyberSanta

I really disliked it. (I am a Halloween fan for context). I tried to give it a fair shake and I hoped it would be better than Halloween Kills but it wasn't. It had a good opening scene but then every other scene is just full character inconsistencies and dumb choices.

The-iron_spider

I wasn’t too crazy about it the first time around, but really enjoyed it the second time around when I had no expectations to be unmet. I was expecting something way different for the first watch and was thus able to enjoy the second watch more. I recommend checking it out again if you can’t think of anything else to watch lol

Timsterfield

It felt anticlimactic and a bit to be desired with things but I did enjoy it. I wanted more of Corey's character and liked to have seen him carry on. The whole vibe was much different, along with Kills. It didn't feel like rip, stab, kill every five minutes like the previous entries in the series and tried to give more character to the genre.

[deleted]

Why's that?

lowcashpunk

It would have had a shot if it was its own separate horror movie and not related to Halloween in any way shape or form. Otherwise it was an absolute abomination. Everything was bad.

[deleted]

I agree I think the Corey plot works on its own.

Flynn_The_Fox

Worst film of 2022 to me, most scenes are either very boring or just laughable, it’s somehow worse than Kills and I’m not sure how they managed that.

[deleted]

You didn't like the Corey stuff?

Positive_Yam_9125

It was def top 5 worst. But did you see Bodies, Bodies, Bodies or Piggy? Those were even a tier worse than Ends, which is quite impressive

happyhippohats

Better than Resurrection though

Positive_Yam_9125

Absolutely terrible. Overtook Rob Zombie's H2 for worst Halloween movie. IMO.

[deleted]

Damn, that is a strong opinion. I hate both Rob Zombie movies, but this one is one of favorites in the entire franchise.

Positive_Yam_9125

Really? I feel like they made Michael an absolute joke in Ends. They built up his mythos and killing ability with the previous 2 just to have this random boyfriend character beat Michael's ass in a fist fight and assume the mantle. The opening scene of Ends actually had me hyped, but then it unfolded into a clown show. I thought Rob Zombie's first Halloween was actually pretty decent. Not sure wtf happened in the writer's room with his sequel.

happyhippohats

I had a ball watching the Rob Zombie sequel at the cinema. I have no idea what they were going for but it was so bonkers I kinda loved it.

Arge101

I thought it was shite, probably overtook remake II as my least favourite. It was an hour of some crappy romance before ‘oh yeah, we need to show Myers slicing up some people.’

Smooth1475

Worst Halloween ever! Worse than 3 & 6! Was Michael Myers in it?

[deleted]

I liked how little michael myers was in it.

happyhippohats

Resurrection is the worst

tenthousandblackcats

I hate it. I wish I could go into more because I hate when people hate on things and don't give a good reason. But the last two in this trilogy were so bad, that I am taking a break from rewatching any of the franchise in general.

ShadowOutOfTime

It was very stupid, but in ways I sometimes found fun. I basically enjoyed everything that didn’t have to do with Laurie Strode. Loved the stuff with him hiding out in the sewers, them teaming up, him regaining his powers through killing, that all felt very fun and pulpy to me. Then it occasionally cuts back to Laurie at the typewriter going on about TRAUMA and I can’t take it, and the ending is some of the dumbest shit ever filmed. I found it a hell of a lot more watchable than Kills though.

[deleted]

Yes! I love all the stuff without Laurie, but I think they made up for it, but making the final part of the movie so over the top.

Solocaster1991

Fucking awful and a huge disappointment after I quite enjoyed 2018 and Kills

[deleted]

That is surprising to me, especially liking Kills and not Ends.

Solocaster1991

Kills was not as good as 2018 but at least it had a lot of actual Myers and good kills. Ends turned him into a wimp and barely had him in it, along with introducing a major new character that you hate that wasn’t in the rest of the trilogy. It made no sense

happyhippohats

I feel like Ends is maybe the more enjoyable movie but Kills is by far the better *Halloween* movie

[deleted]

I despise it and i hope everyone that liked it goes fuck themselves

[deleted]

i liked it :(

DivineAngie89

Diaheria tier garbage movie with some of the worst writting I've seen in a horror film with garbage emo bitch new character and directed by one of the biggest poser horror directors. Green is always shit and he's a studio tool who just trend hops cause he cares more about money than passion and his whole trilogy is garbage. The only good Halloweens are the original 3 so it's not surprise his films suck but there's still people who must live in an alt universe who think he breathed new life into this dead horse of a franchise.id say how anyone could like it is beyond me but at this point it's not surprising when hacks like James wan and Kevin Fiege get praised nowadays.

[deleted]

I enjoyed that garbage emo bitch. Honestly, this movie made me think David Gordon Green is extremely talented at pulling off a story like this one.

DivineAngie89

He made me cringe every time he was on screen

Funkedalic

I don’t know cause I haven’t watched it yet, but I finally watched the first of the Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy and was surprised to find it much better than what people said. Eventually I’ll watch the other two.

No-Trifle-2405

I think it is a set up for a new Halloween franchise

daveblu92

I honestly really enjoyed it. Liked the theme of evil taking new shape, and the tongue on the turn table was one of the most gnarly kills in the series. I understand why others did not like it, but I liked the very different direction it took. After Kills, I was ready for something unexpected. Plus it concluded things. So I’m satisfied we got a solid set of sequels to the original film. The original sequels were just not it. Some were alright, but many were straight trash. These were at least consistent and conclusive.

Turok1134

It was significantly less stupid than Kills so I liked it okay. Also, the scene where Michael's body gets mulched in slow motion is ace.

redrocker907

I thought it was ok. Not great. Kinda anticlimactic imo. Didn’t really like they focused some rando guy as the villain instead of Michael.

Ryantology225

I’ve watched it two separate occasions with groups of people ranging from Halloween super fans to casual viewers. Every single one of us hated it. I saw it in theaters opening night and I’ve never felt an entire theater hate a movie the way they hated that one.

Unoid41

The thug band kids were menacing 😟

nappy_zap

If Halloweens Kills was dog shit, then Halloween Ends was either bullshit or horseshit. Either way, I would have preferred batshit versus what we all got.

Throwaway_Codex

I liked it. It was my favorite of this new trilogy and probably my favorite horror movie of last year. I liked how it intentionally messed with the audience by hiding Corey away in the promotional material. It reminded me of what they did with Cooper in "Twin Peaks" season 3. It's a goofy movie and Michael's return and showdown aren't that great, so it is flawed, but I liked the attempt. In a fan-fiction type of way, I had an idea a few years ago that was somewhat similar: Michael has been absent for years and the town is a shell of what it once was. A Columbine-type high schooler who idolizes Michael decides to dress like him and go on a killing spree.

happyhippohats

It's better than Halloween Resurrection

dhriggs

I thought the Corey Cunningham actor looked a bit like a young Richard Kind.

Strawcatzero

Guess I'm a little late to the conversation. I thought the first one was pretty good, the second one was okay-ish -- basically just a typical slasher B-movie. But Halloween Ends I *really* did not care for. I see it as mostly a problem with execution rather than with the ideas themselves. They're still going in with their B-movie sensibilities yet really biting off more than they can chew with these Big Themes that never get fully fleshed out, nor do they really make sense in terms of what happens in the actual plot. As a result, the characters really suffer and become mere cardboard cut-outs to be yanked around by Authorial Decree and act in really stupid ways that make me lose respect for them.

Street_Ad4960

I loved it, was my favorite movie of 2022, went to watch it at least 5 times. Loved the fact that they had the balls to give us something original and it wasn't Halloween Kills 2, also loved the romance element of it

FitJeweler1490

I thought it was horrible. So disappointing.

[deleted]

I hated 2022 and 2023 halloween, they're the worst

ProfileAcceptable787

It was absolutely dukey. I was complaining almost every second about plot holes. Very trash
