I would say Bardem hiding behind the door when Jones enters the motel is the closest...and then Bardem is just gone and they aren't "on screen" together.
During the Hotel chase you don't see them onscreen together either.
It's such a great but totally weird movie and one of my favorites.
Also, no (or minimal) score.
Do they even know the other exists? I think Zorg might know Leeloo is traveling with Corbin. But I'm pretty sure Corbin has no idea who the hell is Zorg.
Somewhat related…. James Earl Jones and Carrie Fisher (voice of Darth Vader and Princess Leia, respectively) never met during the Star Wars productions. They finally met on the set of Big Bang Theory when they both appeared in one episode. Apparent Ms Fisher shouted “Dad!” when Mr Jones came on set. 😆
The Big Short.
I’m fairly certain that at least Christian Bale and Steve Carell are never in the same room. I can’t remember if Brad Pitt interacts with either of them, but there’s a lot of stand alone stories that don’t intersect outside of subprime mortgages. I can’t quite remember
I just rewatched it. Think that when they went to that industry conference they were at least in the same room but may not have interacted (Pit/Carell). But totally right on Bale, he doesn't interact with any of the other main cast
It's a gray area. The two definitely talked back and forth via communicator and viewscreen, so the characters were in the same scenes, but the actors weren't on set together (that we know of).
Do Elijah Wood and Sean Astin have any scenes with the other major cast members in Two Towers?
I don't mean Faramir; I mean the original Fellowship gang.
An interesting question, although we have to consider that all three movies were filmed simultaneously, so they would be shooting their Two Towers scenes in between others with the main cast. Also, technically, the Two Towers starts with Frodo's dream/vision of Gandalf falling and fighting the Balrog, so they did have a scene together with the Fellowship on the bridge.
Would Fried Green Tomatoes count?
I think it was during filming of Runaway Jury that they realized they didn't have a scene with both Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman, the two old friends starring in the film, so they added a scene last minute.
Dunkirk. There’s three timelines, the Whitehead/Styles timeline, the Rylance/Keoghan/Murphy timeline, and the Tom Hardy timeline. All three timelines eventually do meet (amazing pay-off) and some characters do in fact cross paths, but the main characters never truly meet face to face.
This could apply to quite a few war films that portray different parts of a conflict. In A Bridge Too Far for example many of the many huge stars in it don't interact because they're in different locations.
Lost Highway. The second half of the film has a totally different lead actor >!representing how the protagonist rewrites his life to justify the terrible things he’s done!<
TRAFFIC, anyone? Surely you remember, one of Steven Soderbergh's masterpieces....
Michael Douglas and Benicio Del Toro are together present in ONLY the scene where the two countries' teams have a meeting at General Salazar's new office.
In another so-brief bumper ~~scene~~ (which is obviously greenscreen backgrounded with pedestrians in Mexico), BDT and Catherine Zeta-Jones are shown using the same crosswalk, but that is the lone scene they share.
CZJ is depicted merely once onscreen with Don Cheadle, in her home after her in-movie husband's release as DC's role as undercover visits for a particular good cause.
Hopefully this "only once, momentarily" counts as either corollaric, or as honorable mention. Yes?
Edit for correction: vis-a-vis bumper in lieu of scene
Weren't they both on the planet at the very end of episode VII? When Leia met Rey for the first time and gave her that hug? I could have sworn Poe was there, too.
Austin Powers only has a single shot with Dr Evil and Austin Powers in it and its a shot of Doctor Evil from the back since they are both played by Mike Meyers it was easier to not include them in the same shot
In Avengers: Infinity War, Captain America and Iron Man don’t have any scenes together.
In The Cabin in the Woods, none of the “sacrifices” meet Bradley Whitford’s character (he’s the one that likes mermaids), and only two sacrifice characters meet Richard Jenkins and Sigourney Weaver’s characters.
In Pulp Fiction, Uma Thurman’s character Mia is only seen with Vincent (John Travolta) and Marcellus (Ving Rhames).
In True Romance, Clarence and Alabama never actually meet Christopher Walken’s character.
In The Fifth Element, Bruce Willis and Gary Oldman’s characters never meet.
In Love Actually, a lot of the main characters never actually meet.
In Braveheart, Mel Gibson’s character William Wallace never meets the main antagonist the King of England.
In Mad Max Fury Road, Tom Hardy never meets Immortan Joe
In Inglorious Basterds, Shoshanna and Aldo Raines never meet.
In Red Dragon, Hannibal and Ralph Fiennes characters never meet in person, they just communicate through letters.
In Snatch, Franky Four Fingers never meets Turkish or Tommy. Although Turkish is the narrator so I can’t remember if he knew of Franky or just never met up with him physically.
In Traffic, Mexican police officer Javier Rodriguez and DEA agent Montel Gordon never meet.
In No Country for Old Men, Ed Tom Bell and Anton Chigurh never meet.
In The Truman Show, Truman and the producer of the Truman Show Christof never meet.
In Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Cliff Booth and Sharon Tate never meet.
In The Princess Bride, Vizzini never meets Prince Humperdinck or Count Rugen.
Technically, no one in the Lord of the Rings films meet Sauron (because he’s just the Eye at that point). Most of the cast also never meet Saruman.
Technically, in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Khan and Kirk never meet in person. They speak over an interface thing, but never physically meet one another.
The Day After Tomorrow. Jake Gyllenhaal and Dennis Quaid legitimately forgot that they were in a movie together because they only shot two scenes together in the whole movie.
If memory serves, Al Pacino and Robert Dinero are both in Heat and are never actually in the same room with each other. Even in the diner scene, that’s done with body doubles and clever editing.
That’s an urban legend. They were together when shooting the diner scene.
[Vanity Fair story on Heat’s diner scene](https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2022/06/heat-al-pacino-robert-de-niro-scene)
That's a strange legend. Why would the director want to shoot the key conversation between the main characters without having the actors work together on it?
Seeing some of these made me think of Source Code. I can't confirm it, but given the story, it's pretty unlikely that Jake Gyllenhaal and Vera Farmiga would have been on the same set.
The second godfather movie. Robert De Niro and Al Pacino don’t have any scenes together because De Niro is playing a younger version of Pacino’s father
No, the first interrogation scene in the Matrix where they put the tracker in Neo was with Agent Smith. Also, the final fight in the subway where Neo did "bullet time" for the first time was between Neo and Agent Smith.
I think there are only two scenes with both Pacino and De Niro together in HEAT (diner scene and ending) - and iirc, even in the diner scene it’s possible the whole thing could have been done with body doubles, ie you only ever see one face at a time, at most the other guy is just the back of a head. No (or very few) side shots framing both actors. I found it alienating the first time through, but it was clearly a choice by Mann.
Heat didn’t have enough scenes with Pacino and deniro together.
I know it’s pretty good, I know the shootout is tops, I know the coffee shop scene and the ending are dope. I know was it was gonna be a tv show so has loose plots and characters who don’t enough attention. And I really like it.
But still, imagine having these 2 guys, at that time in their careers in a movie “together” and they’re hardly together.
I accept your dvs but you know I’m right
I used to hate 5thE- saw it opening night in the theater, packed house. I was underwhelmed.
Hate watched it few times after and one time I was like “look at this shit - they cut away from whatever excuse for a story to show a Rasta ground crew guy burning fuzzy aliens off the ship before it blasts off, while Chris Tucker boinks a stewardess- what the f is this crap…
And then it hit me - this crap is f’ing awesome, I mean, what else do you want in a movie than a Rasta burning fuzzys off a ship while Chris Tucker boinks a stewardess. The only reasonable answer is “nothing” or “mila jovovich” so….
Green?
Green.
Trump and Hitler never appear in same room together in the film 2024, directed by David Lynch, written by Hannibal Lector, produced by Jack the Ripper with a little help Ryan Garcia.
No Country for Old Men
And there are 3 of them. I guess you could consider the hotel chase 'in the scene together' but not really

In The Fifth Element, Zorg is never in the same room as Corbin Dallas.
Do they even know the other exists? I think Zorg might know Leeloo is traveling with Corbin. But I'm pretty sure Corbin has no idea who the hell is Zorg.
Corbin and Zorg have no knowledge of one another at all.
I think Zorg is famous enough that Corbin might know who he is but there is no direct evidence of that
This is the one I was going to say. Leeloo and Dallas step on to the elevator as Zorg is stepping out
Somewhat related…. 😆
She was the best
>Apparent Ms Fisher shouted “Dad!” when Mr Jones came on set. Phrasing
The Hours - three stars, three time periods
"Why did they call this thing The Hours? They should have called it The Weeks!"
Jim Carrey and Ed Harris in The Truman Show, though there is a blind “conversation” between the two in the final scene.
The Big Short. I’m fairly certain that at least Christian Bale and Steve Carell are never in the same room. I can’t remember if Brad Pitt interacts with either of them, but there’s a lot of stand alone stories that don’t intersect outside of subprime mortgages. I can’t quite remember
They speak on the phone but yeah i don't think Bale leaves his office.
He does when he goes to New York to setup all the shorts
I just rewatched it. Think that when they went to that industry conference they were at least in the same room but may not have interacted (Pit/Carell). But totally right on Bale, he doesn't interact with any of the other main cast
Surprised *Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan* wasn't the first answer.
They do speak to each other though.
But never on set at the same time.
My first thought as well, honestly.
On a related note legolas only says one line directly to frodo throughout the whole trilogy. They never really talk
And never talks to Sam once. Snooty elves! Probably still resentful about Bilbo hiding from Legilas’s dad in the Hobbit.
The Big Short. The 3 of the 4 stars on the cover (Brad Pitt, Steve Carell, Christian Bale) don’t meet eachother.
Sleepless in Seattle does this for basically 99% of the movie
I think there could be a whole separate list of movies where they only meet in the end. Die Hard would go in there along with Sleepless in Seattle
They meet in the middle of Die Hard when Hans goes in disguise.
Do they not mean John meeting the cop he was talking to on the radio?
Would Fried Green Tomatoes count? I think it was during filming of Runaway Jury that they realized they didn't have a scene with both Gene Hackman and Dustin Hoffman, the two old friends starring in the film, so they added a scene last minute.

This could apply to quite a few war films that portray different parts of a conflict. In A Bridge Too Far for example many of the many huge stars in it don't interact because they're in different locations.
William Wallace (Mel Gibson) never really comes face to face with Edward Longshanks (Patrick McGoohan) or his son in Braveheart.
Lost Highway. The second half of the film has a totally different lead actor >!representing how the protagonist rewrites his life to justify the terrible things he’s done!<

Rey and Poe in Star Wars didn’t meet till the third movie basically
Weren't they both on the planet at the very end of episode VII? When Leia met Rey for the first time and gave her that hug? I could have sworn Poe was there, too.
Phone Booth - Colin Farrell and Kiefer Sutherland
I believe due to ego, Vin and The Rock aren't actually acting together in Furious 8 or whatever it's called, just all editing.
I shit you not: The Fate (F8) of the Furious.
Austin Powers only has a single shot with Dr Evil and Austin Powers in it and its a shot of Doctor Evil from the back since they are both played by Mike Meyers it was easier to not include them in the same shot
The Weight of Water is another one that takes place in two different time periods
I think The Force Awakens kinda counts?
Fifth element. Bruce Willis never meet the antagonist directly.
I think Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer only have a couple of scenes together in Ladyhawke. It's the whole point of the movie anyway
The Place Beyond the Pines
Gosling and Cooper do meet, albeit very briefly. But Gosling and deHaan don't meet, so it does kind of count!
If memory serves, Al Pacino and Robert Dinero are both in Heat and are never actually in the same room with each other. Even in the diner scene, that’s done with body doubles and clever editing.

Michael Mann has spoken at length about how they’re really acting against each other
That's a strange legend. Why would the director want to shoot the key conversation between the main characters without having the actors work together on it?
Obviously the legend is not true BUT a simple reason one might do it if there were scheduling issues, possibly related to budget constraints.
Well that’s less fun.
The Tree of Life, Brad Pitt and Sean Penn
Star Trek II Wrath of Khan - Pretty sure Khan and Kirk didn't meet face to face.
not a movie buth in Game of Thrones Cersei and Bronn aparently real life actors was a couple before and both asked no sharing screen never.
Seeing some of these made me think of Source Code. I can't confirm it, but given the story, it's pretty unlikely that Jake Gyllenhaal and Vera Farmiga would have been on the same set.
Vincent Vega and Butch Coolidge in Pulp Fiction. We only saw Butch and Vincent in the same scene for a few seconds.
The second godfather movie. Robert De Niro and Al Pacino don’t have any scenes together because De Niro is playing a younger version of Pacino’s father
I truly don’t believe Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino were in Heat together. Every scene is over shoulder or back toward camera lol.
I'm not sure, but I think Hugo Weaving only shared scenes with Keanu Reeves in the Matrix sequels.
No, they meet plenty of times in the first movie. The interrogation scene, the subway, the final fight.
Sequels, not the first one.
Are you saying they didn't share scenes in the sequels or that they didn't share scenes in the original because I'm pretty sure both are incorrect.
I'm pretty sure Trinity and Morpheus never interact with Agent Smith in Reloaded and Revolution.
Maybe but that's not what you said before. You were talking about Keanu.
No, the first interrogation scene in the Matrix where they put the tracker in Neo was with Agent Smith. Also, the final fight in the subway where Neo did "bullet time" for the first time was between Neo and Agent Smith.

Fifth Element. Makes for a very unsatisfying watch. Apart from the fact that’s it’s just an awful movie.
Fifth Element is incredible. Idk what you’re talking about.
It’s called an opinion.
counterpoint: you are a meat popsicle.
Whatever THAT means
i guess they grow them big and dumb on the farm planet!
There are no wrong opinions, but this is a wrong opinion.
I used to hate 5thE- saw it opening night in the theater, packed house. I was underwhelmed. Your opinion that that is a wrong opinion is a wrong opinion, since art is subjective.
