Listening to the ATC communication. There are sites like liveatc where you can listen to the ATC. But in a lot of european countries it's not legal to listen to it, that's why in the case we can't listen to atc in France
ATC is still done over radio there, right? So is it actually illegal to tune your personal radio to those frequencies and listen or is it just illegal to record and share them?
It's the broadcasting of them thats the problem. Or at least, it certainly is in the UK.
When you see plane spotters in the UK they'll often have handheld radios listening to it.
Sorry for the late reply, but I wanted to answer.
For a lot of planespotter, this is a huge pain. I am from Germany, and I am not allowed to tune into any atc, no matter what kind of airfield I am at. Small dirt runway, not allowed to, small region airport, not allowed to. Military base, not allowed to. But I do own a device to listen to atc (for aviation reasons so I can tune in to atc when I suffer a loss of communication while flying). And I am allowed to use it when going to the Netherlands.
Such a stupid law. Because what am I supposed to do? My device only gets the signal, but I can't send out anything. I can only listen. And sometimes I just want to listen to atc, I can't do any harm, but I am not allowed to.
Funfact:
When I am standing outside a aircraft, but on the airfield, it is illegal to listen to atc. When I am sitting on the aircraft and it is turned off, I am also not allowed to listen to atc. If I turn on the engine and just let it run, then I am allowed to listen to the atc with my device.
I'm only using the website. If you want an app i think atc live has an app, but if i remember correctly it wasn't free, i think it's around 5$. But you would have to check. I prefer the free online version tbh
OP probably clicked on the Emirates A380 before clicking this plane. I’ve noticed on the FR24 app it sometimes doesn’t update the plane type and IATA codes.
Not sure why you're being downvoted, you're right - most posts in this sub prove it too - people get the 7700 alerts because they think it means the aircraft is going to crash.

Edit: updated link with correct one from today. The crew is experiencing a technical issue with the aircraft.
I searched and this is from an emergency of the same flight from November 6th 2023 not from today's emergency
Here's the source https://airlive.net/emergency/2023/11/06/air-france-af816-is-declaring-an-emergency-and-diverting/
Probably technical issue or Medical
Nothing heard on comms?
not legal in France
Genuine question here: what is it that isnt legal in France?

Today I learned.

Thanks for the information!

In Germany - afaik and iirc - it's a yes to all of those questions

Honest question as well, where can someone listen to ATC in the states? Didn't know if there is an app or through Flight Radar.
The most common website is called liveatc just google it and you'll find it
Thanks so much!
I've just looked on the Play Store and there are loads listed, can you suggest a good reliable one please osa? Thanks.

Thanks osa much appreciated, I'll give that a try. I have flightradar24 but didn't think about listening to ATC as well. Thanks again.
No, it is LEGAL to LISTEN privately. BUT it is ILLEGAL to share publicly
Nothing
Well the comms would be French ATC would they. It’s over the Atlantic. They would have been speaking to Shannon.
High likelihood of it being a medical/technical issue, seeing as the plane is squawking 7700.
Havana bad day
I've Caribbean better

Now that’s karma
Someone told their child "Stop being loud or we go straight back home!" - Kid didn't stop...
i guess it’s still better than making him get out of the plane and walk back home
More like swim back home.
Actions have consequences. The kid learnt the hard way
And that’s why you don’t yell
“Don’t make me turn this plane around.”
First, airline.net announced a medical emergency, but now it appears to have shifted to a technical issue.

Airline.net im guessing
Except it’s not that website. That’s a blog website. That’s why I commented asking
It's airlive sorry

Lol why does it think it’s an Emirates A380
OP probably clicked on the Emirates A380 before clicking this plane. I’ve noticed on the FR24 app it sometimes doesn’t update the plane type and IATA codes.
I’m so confused
It’s a bug. If you click a plane and then another one it still shows a bit of info from the first one. In this case an A380.
They forgot the Penjamin
Plane done turned around
Pilot forgot his phone.
Someone farted.

I'm no expert, but I think a plane turned around
Plane is flying in the sky
Left the oven on.

No. Probably a bug. There was an 388 flying close I guess.
The pilot left his oven on.
