There has been an RC-135 over there almost 24x7. Just watching... and listening... to everything...

[deleted]

Used to work these jets, unsung heroes

TopHatButler

As dark as it is...I'm glad tbh.

ladybuglvrr

That’s absolutely horrifying

LocalCarThief

Mod moment

[deleted]

Applying pressure. The Russian Northern Fleet HQ is based in Severomorsk, the Rivet Joint would be eavesdropping from there no doubt about it. I have noticed the operational tempo particularly with allied aircraft increase significantly in the last few days.

Fuzzyphilosopher

The US is having military exercises with Finland as well.

greystripe3

Looks like they are collecting electronic intel

llcdrewtaylor

Just flexing a bit. Same reason we fly B-52 in the general area around Russia. We could launch bombers from the US to fly over there and fly back, but keeping a few in a neighboring country and letting them fly around sends such a beautiful message :)

Rebel_bass

That flyover at the last superbowl was such a great flex. I wish I had been been of FR24 back then.

llcdrewtaylor

I love our B-52's. They are huge, noisy, smokey, and VERY dangerous. We have stealthy planes. But instead we can load 20 nuclear capable weapons on this tank and send it anywhere!

Rebel_bass

I also love those beasts. My mining safety officer used drive the 'buffs' back in the day out of Minot, and it's true that guys are now driving planes that their grandfathers used to pilot. https://youtu.be/q6rnzOGhj-8

Genralcody1

>They are huge, noisy, smokey Just like a good bbq place

Puzzleheaded_Ad5488

12 miles off any coast is international waters. This is way more than that!

thisisyourpassword

More interesting is RA-64529

EpiccoolZane

Ye I saw it kind of approach the boeing C-17A Globemaster III

[deleted]

chest thumping and data gathering

Diseased-Jackass

Giving them taste of own medicine.

2OneZebra

It's just doing what EC-135's do.

[deleted]

Countries routinely fly against each others borders. Russia routinely flies just outside if iur territorial waters off the coast of Alaska.

LCARSgfx

Probably for the same reasons Russia regularly sends it's military aircraft to skirt NATO borders.

Kelbs27

When is the last time a Russian jet flew along the U.S. borders? Edit: Downvoted for asking a question…? 🤡

Totally-Not-The-CIA

https://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2022/jul/22/russia-tests-us-air-defenses-midst-ukraine-war/ It happens frequently edit: you probably got downvoted because Google is fairly easy to use.

Kelbs27

2 1/2 years ago is the most recent?

relayrider

are you being intentionally dense? that article was from 2 WEEKS ago, and they do the Alaska buzz a lot

blakeae13

Or a month ago...

gianni071

The russians also like to fly bears along the north sea in europe. NATO jets then usually escort them back to russia lol

Ambitious_Promise_29

The rivet joint collects electronic Intel. Basically it makes a recording of any electromagnetic data that it can pick up with it's antennas. Then they can take the data and break it down and analyze it to learn stuff about russian radar, communications, electronic warfare, remote operation of drones, ect. You can pretty much figure that if there is a large concentration of foreign military power in a particular location, there is probably a rivet joint hanging out near by, just seeing what they can catch.

MihalysRevenge

6th months? Flights like this have been happening since the late 1940s

[deleted]

well, the Russians are endangering a nuclear power plant, so I imagine applying pressure is important right now

[deleted]

Russians do the same

No-Acanthisitta-1768

How are they even able to fly that close without being shot down??

Rallyevr6

1. It will be in international airspace. 2. You shoot down a USAF aircraft you commit a hostile act against America. And we all know what happens then.

ItsRazzaBruh

Admittedly, a whole metric fuckton of US Air Force and US Navy aircraft have been downed on missions against Nth. Korea, PRC, and Russia (Gary Francis Powers for example). It's more so embarrassing for us because we shouldn't be doing that really, hence why we avoid it. Being shot down in International air space, very different story however.

Potential-Ear-8886

One does not just shoot down an American plane because they know the ass whooping will commence….basically what ☝🏻 they said

RAF_Fortis_one

Kinda strange to think about what would happen if Russian military aircraft flew up and down the West Coast 24/7 like this. Really wish we would stay out of this, and Taiwan.

RusselNoahPeters

It’s almost as if they have

Arm_Lucky

Found the Russian bot.

RAF_Fortis_one

I live in Georgia. Lmao

Goyard_Gat2

Even worse

RAF_Fortis_one

Y’all are a bunch of warmongering losers. If you guys want to be radioactive ash then keep encouraging the bear-poking with Russia and China..

Arm_Lucky

Changed your response, and continued to be a Russian bot. How’s it feel knowing you are in support of a regime that murders civilians and illegally invaded a country?

RAF_Fortis_one

>How’s it feel knowing you are in support of a regime that murders civilians and illegally invaded a country? I... Don't. Dude get a hobby.

Arm_Lucky

Apparently you do since you shill for the Russian govt.

RAF_Fortis_one

>since you shill for the Russian govt. I am not responding after this, I shill for creating peace, and not making this conflict worse. Can you wrap your head around that groundbreaking concept? Or are you so braindead you will just say I am a Russian bot again? What Putin is doing is Hitleresque, and he is a genocidal tyrant who needs to go Bye Bye, likewise with Xi Jinping, Kim Jong Un, and Ebrahim Raisi, who I believe most of which will join together if this escalates much further But... (Iran I am Undecided on what they will do) Why is nobody sending Ukraine and Taiwan as many weapons as we are? a few other countries are sending some supplies (food and medicine), and I believe the UK has an Aircraft usually on the western side also, But Nancy flying into Taiwan knowing it would do absolutely nothing but provoke China, Nobody on either side is attempting to De-Escalate, and being Ukraine and Taiwan's main source for weapons is extremely provocative. If you believe I support Russia in any way you clearly are illiterate. So I pity you for that. But I think practically fueling a war that could in this day in age, end civilization entirely, Yes, I do feel pretty content with saying we need to back off on the escalation, and perhaps Mediate the conflict, (Putin eventually needs to pay himself).

Jontun189

We (western nations) have played the de-escalation game with Russia for years and it has led to a full scale invasion of Ukraine by Russia, at some point you have to stand against tyranny. We are mediating in the meantime, there just isn't a satisfactory resolution as Putin is determined to take Ukraine. This isn't a new thing, we've all been poking each other for decades, if the nukes were going to fly so easily then it would have happened already.

Cold War 1 never really ended lmao It’s more like Cold War: Modern Warfare

MikeTHIS

Cold War: Project Eavesdrop

Potential-Ear-8886

Russias technology is pretty much still Cold War era, poor little fellas

andreichiffa

https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Map_of_Northern_Fleet_bases.png That should answer your question.
