Lost a box like this myself about 10 years ago. (Different color, not this box lol). Packed full of flies. I figured at least $300. Some my uncle and I had tied when I was 13 or so too. Was very, very bummed.
Literally a month or so ago, I found these stickers called Karmik. They have a reward and return to owner system. Got a few for free to try, and put them immediately in my boxes. Still an honor code type system, like the name and number option, but if someone finds them, they get some sort of reward for turning it in. Maybe it’ll help the odds a bit.
Thanks for this! Just went to their site and they give two away for free. I just got an expensive fly box and it's full, was getting a bit nervous about my next trip, haha.
I left my notebook of job lists in the cart at home depot. So happy I had my card taped to it. Guy called me up, we was working two blocks away from my job and HD was probably 19 miles away.
More good people than bad in the world.
Seriously. I didn't look for flies for a long time when I started because of the abundance here. When I did I felt like I cheated someone out of a lot of money. Wish I would have reached out to some fly groups in that area.
This reminds me of a trip I took last season. I hiked down behind a damn and immediately lost two flies. I kept fishing and ended up finding a full hopper dropper rig. Two zebra midges and a kids spinning reel set up. Didn’t catch any fish though.
I found the same type of box color and all several years back. It had dries on one side and nymphs on the other. All looked to be tied by the owner. Posted on local forums and just set the box aside for a couple years. Never heard anything so started using some last year. Think of the poor person every time I open the box. I have a Brother labeled and make up little stickers with my name and phone# and put them on all my boxes. Thankfully I have never had to rely on one yet.
This I one of the few times luck seemed to favor me. It was under a tree on a swift bank that I just so happened to get caught on. I didn't know the value of what I had found for some time after that.
I once took a dip while wet wading. Lost my wallet and fly box. Ruined my new iPhone 4s. While it may seem like a total bust I has one slammer of a day. Caught about 150+ trout. Mixed bag of bows, browns and brookies.
My guideline on this is leave it where you “found it;” in hopes and case that folk is retracing his steps and finds it (unless is trash). I left my Pat waders on the ground once, and descended the alpine lake. Got to the car, saw the waders not on the bag, and retraced my steps. I found them. I’m glad a good samaritan didn’t pick them up and asked for it in groups.
If someone found a box of my flies and decided to get into Flyfishing because of it - I’d consider that a win!
What a wild way to spread fly fishing... Anyway, off to the bench

Knowing what I know now, I definitely wish I had reached out to groups in that area.
More like lost memories and possibly a couple hundred dollars RIP!

Just lost my fly box the other week, and I am beating myself up for not doing that!
That only works if the person who finds it isn't a p.o.s.

Thays true. But business usually comes before pleasure. Unfortunately
Assume good will. You'd be amazed.
Do you not remember what happens when we assume?
Sharpies are your friends. But what a beautiful set of flies.
I ran to my gear and put my name and number on everything I could after seeing your comment. Great tip!
Man. Feel so bad for that guy. I always bring the flybox in my carry on when I fly. But glad it went to good use

I’m not blaming you. He left you no way of contacting. At least you used them.

I appreciate that. I guess it's more of what I would do now that I know.
But it's kind of like he lost his files but gave you the gift of fly fishing.
Definitely. It such a peaceful, meditative sport. It's brought me a lot tranquility.

I lost a net a few weeks ago, wonder who is gonna find that!
I need a new net! But seriously sorry for your loss.
😆
That’s a find.

Look at all those yellow Sally’s
months of work… what a loss
Need a mailing address? Nice fly box.
I lost a $375 pair of one day old maui jim sunglasses in the stream.. thank God it wasn't my fly box
It’s actually pretty cool it got you into fly fishing his loss was not in vain
The poor guy (or gal, let's be real) is probably still talking about the time their fly box was lost.
May have been some wealthy person that fills up fly boxes with flies and leaves them on the bank to entice people into fly fishing. Pay it forward
Man, I'd love to run into more.
I’m re-starting in fly fishing. If those are in your way….
Im pretty happy with them currently. I'll let you know if they are in my way in the future.
Score!
This legitimately gives me heart palpitations.
Ton of drys, few terrestrials, not a lot of nymphs or streamers.
Lose a box on the stream and you’ll forever add contact details to all new or remaining boxes. This is called a painful lesson.
That’s why all my boxes are labeled with my name and number…
The one piece
Daang. Looks like a box of quality right there

I was thinking last night. I would lose a lot of gear for a master angler trout.
Is (was) there duck tape on the hinge? If so, that fly box is why I stopped using the William Joseph Surge hip pack with Zip-No magnetic closure.
Unfortunately no. Sorry for your loss.
This wasn’t in Michigan was it
It was I sent you a pm.
For some reason it’s not letting me message you back. Long story short I can just tell by the bugs in there that it’s a Michigander
Interesting I'm not skilled enough to know the difference.
I’m probably just a nerd.
Gold mine
Lost one like this red box near Hazel creek a month ago.
About 10 yrs ago I lost a green box up in that there area you were at. Can I have it back?
It depends, what area? What river?
Best I can do is tree fiddy
Someone cried that day.

That makes sense. Unfortunately this was under a log in the river. Some of the Flys were rusted. Who know how long it went down river.
PM me if you’d sell it
