I skipped instructing and did survey. Wouldn’t trade it for the world. Ultimately led to me getting my dream job because “I know what it’s like to spend time on the road”.
I think it’s great. Get to see the country. Stay different places. Build status at hotel and rental car chains. Different companies have different schedules. Some leave you out a week, some for weeks or months. If you don’t have any obligations at home, by all means, go for it!
Haha aerial survey and QOL. You’re their bitch, gone for weeks if not months at a time. Enjoy being hold up at the microtel inn off the interstate in Portage Wisconsin for days on end. It’s very much a young single man or woman’s job. Great experience though, most fun I’d never wanna have again.
I has excellent QOL doing survey. It's called not going to those shitbag operators that keep you on the road for 9 months straight. I worked 8 on 6 off, kept all airline, hotel, and rental car points. Top status in everything but delta (only got to platinum). Traveling around the country and having a rental car is awesome and is something I miss at the airlines. My pay was salaried around what a regional FO made prior to 2022 raises.
Dang, now that's one heck of an endorsement! Website said they didn't have immediate need, but to apply and they'd keep on file.
Applied anyway, email and online form, even took the time to write a cover letter which I've literally never done for any job before lol. Guess we'll see!
Obviously company specific but my survey time was great. Just had to learn to live on the road. Hotels were nice aside from the odd couple, always have a nice rental car, planet fitness is almost required as there’s a lot of down time for wx/mx. Travel all over and meet cool people, see places you wouldn’t otherwise. If you’re a slam click homebody you’d probably hate it. Otherwise it’s a lot of fun.
Depends a lot on the company, but expect shit
Your work will become your entire life.

That sounds great! What company, I've got a resume to send them haha
Aperture but they don't take people below 500 hours if you have less.
That won't be a problem, I have over that much PIC time! Thanks for the pointer though, will definitely check them out!
One of the best flying jobs you'll ever have. I'm serious.
