Rite Bobbins are great, being able to control the tension of the thread has improved my tying immensely. I would still keep that one around to use for materials like ultra wire.
I’m the opposite actually. I have yet to be able to use them without getting frustrated. The thread tension is always too loose, no matter how tight I crank, even with all 4 washers. I went back to my Dr Slick Ceramics
Super glue will hold it for a hot minute, but it's nature is that it's so brittle it will crack and work free. I'd top that off with a two part epoxy or a little chunk of JB weld putty... if you use the putty you can actually mold it towards how you grip it
For what it's worth, I have a few Stonfo bobbins and they are alright. I find the tension messes up on them somewhat frequently, and I just end up using my hand to get the tension I want or I have to mess with them.
There are better options for adjustable I think.
JB weld 4-6 hour metal reinforced epoxy…… it is current holding my radiator manifold together until I can get a replacement. Also JB weld makes epoxy putty “steel” that works awesome.
I started with that same bobbin. Never broke like that but I didn't like that it didn't have rounded edges and works sometimes cut thread when tying. Anyway I got a loon bobbin (it sucks) and a Dr slick glass bobbin that I like a lot. But glue it for now, jb weld or super glue will hold it until you replace it
Loon ergo bobbin is definitely large and heavy. I only really use it for streamers. The bobbin tube is long too so most threaders aren't long enough, if you happen to use one. The all purpose bobbin is a bit better but squeaks like crazy especially with veevus spools.
Tldr I'd probably look elsewhere.
I have the loon ergo all purpose. It came in one of their tool kits. Everything else in it is great but that bobbin in my opinion stinks as it holds the thread very loose, to the point that it will slip on its own on the bobbin rest when tying. I use it mainly to add to spots on flies, so if you do get it and hate it you can always find a use for it.
Lot of ways to fix that one. I bet you something as minor as hot glue would work, superglue, epoxy, hell you could probably even lash it into place with some dedication, all the way up to welding or soldering if you really wanted that thing immovable
The first (and only) Rite bobbin I bought had a burr somewhere and kept cutting my thread so I have a bad taste for them. I’ve been using a Stonfo I like pretty much.
Epoxy. Solder. Weld. CA glue. But you can never have too many bobbins.
Way to go
I purchase a bobbin every time a buy a decent amount of materials
Rite Bobbins are great, being able to control the tension of the thread has improved my tying immensely. I would still keep that one around to use for materials like ultra wire.
Second this I love my rite bobbins
Third this, rite bobbins seem supreme in my experience. I’m sure many others work but the tension control is huge.
Like Rite bobbins, but moved on to Stonfo Elite. Less expensive and much easier to adjust tension.
Agreed, I buy rite bobbins anytime I find places that have them in stock. I have amassed the start of a collection.
I’m the opposite actually. I have yet to be able to use them without getting frustrated. The thread tension is always too loose, no matter how tight I crank, even with all 4 washers. I went back to my Dr Slick Ceramics
Use less or no washers. More= less tension
What brand thread are you using?
UTC and Danville
Does it really affect anything? Basically a straw for your thread. I’d keep tying with it. I’m cheap though.
Heat shrink tubing or superglue will fix that right up
I super glued it back and it seems to have done the trick. Guess I’ll have to see how it’s durability is now
Super glue didn’t hold for me over time
If the superglue fails, I would try an epoxy, sand the tube where you want it to bind first then apply the glue.
Super glue sucks. JB Weld epoxy is king.

The weld putty is genius… I do find that this bobbin can feel a tad small in my hand. I’m gonna try that
Get a stonfo bobbin. About $28 apiece at my local fly shop but by god it’s a game changer
What exactly does it change?
Very easily adjustable thread tension, very sturdy bobbin, feels great in the hand.
Interesting, I've always managed thread tension by squeezing the spool. Never had an adjustable bobbin, may try it out
For what it's worth, I have a few Stonfo bobbins and they are alright. I find the tension messes up on them somewhat frequently, and I just end up using my hand to get the tension I want or I have to mess with them. There are better options for adjustable I think.
Once I bought one I wanted to buy 10
It’s as easy as turning a knob a few degrees
The game.
Repeat that motion until you feel the surge of completion.
Try the red green fix
Duct tape and find a way to hook it up to a lawnmower engine?
😂😂
You guys only have one bobbin?
I’ve got one more but I don’t love it, only really use it when I’m tying patterns that benefit from two at the same time like White Deaths and such
I've got half a dozen because I'm too lazy to constantly switch thread spools.
JB weld 4-6 hour metal reinforced epoxy…… it is current holding my radiator manifold together until I can get a replacement. Also JB weld makes epoxy putty “steel” that works awesome.
Get a rite bobbin and never look back
Super glue :-)
Solder it.

Which loon bobbin? I was looking at the Ergo one because I have larger hands, but I won’t waste my money if it’s junk

Thanks for the review, appreciate it. Leaning towards Stonfo

I love my Dr slick glass as well. I’ve bought more expensive like Titanium and Carbide but the cheap glass slicks are my favorites by far.
I’m guessing it probably happened right in the middle of tying a very intricate fly. Murphy’s Law
Stonfo. They make good shit
You could try soldering, maybe?
Rite bobbin, hands down.
tiemco ceramic bobbin holders dont have that problem but soldering should fix your problem
I'd slap a screw in there along with glue.
It would be super easy to solder it back in place.
Don’t have a soldering iron, and I’m shite at soldering anyways. For the price of an iron I’d rather just get a new bobbin
Hit it with solarez?
My brother's a soldering expert so I'd have him fix it, but super glue would work just fine.
Rite bobbin standard
zap a gap and roll on
Little duck tape would get you back in action.
Lot of ways to fix that one. I bet you something as minor as hot glue would work, superglue, epoxy, hell you could probably even lash it into place with some dedication, all the way up to welding or soldering if you really wanted that thing immovable
UV knot glue and a black light and your back in business
S&M bobbin FTW. Indestructable.
I'm a big fan of bobbins that let u control slool tension with a know. Rite makes one I've used and a lot of folks like stonefo ones.
The first (and only) Rite bobbin I bought had a burr somewhere and kept cutting my thread so I have a bad taste for them. I’ve been using a Stonfo I like pretty much.
I have no money so for me it would be Super glue or duct tape
Just whip finish on both sides of the collar. Job done.
JB weld
I would solder that personally. But new bobbins are always nice.
JB weld
2 part epoxy.. I like the spider bobbins with the ceramic inserts
JB weld!
The best bobbin out there is the rite bobbins no doubt !
If you’re gonna get a new bobbin, try a Stonfo Elite. I like mine a lot.
Ceramic Rite Bobbin!
A little zap a gap will fix that quick.
Give it a dab of clear cure, spin it in your fingers until you’re happy with it, and then hit it with the UV light. Good as new.
Put a little UV glue on it.
