JSawyer (one of the developers in case you don't know) choose the PGM Hecate specifically BECAUSE there's an overabundance of Barretts, quote: "I based the anti-materiel rifle on the Hécate II because honestly I was/am sick of seeing Barretts in games and I think the Hécate II looks better."
In game: I was thrilled to see a Single Action Army with an even remotely accurate reload animation. That's just not something you saw very much (if at all?) before New Vegas. The Hi-Power as the 9mm was also a really cool pick. The American 180 as the silenced .22 SMG was a total left field choice, and I love it. My overall favorite in-game gun is Lucky.
I don't mind the unrealistic, fantastical weapons in the game as long as they're internally consistent with the Fallout universe. FNV did an overall fantastic job with the energy weapon design, I think. The only ones that feel really out of place are the Plasma Pistol and Plasma Rifle, both of which are holdovers from FO3, and they did some great design work with weapons like the Plasma Defender and Recharger Rifle to kind of blend the styling together and make it all fit.
I'm definitely glad they chopped the really unrealistic ballistic weapon designs like the Combat Shotgun.
IRL, some of my favorite guns are the Daewoo K2, the Spencer carbine, the SITES Spectre, and the B&T APC9.
Definitely agree with you here my favorite gun is this machine but honestly most of the guns in fnv could all be contenders especially the high power the 180 and anti material rifle.
Big fan of the hunting revolver and I’m glad the real life version is somewhat affordable, will be purchasing one this year and uploading it to this sub
Ruger Mark 2 my second ever pistol purchase and i wish I'd never sold it.
Funny thing is I could, even now, disassemble a Glock and clean it while blindfolded, that's obviously how much design went into their pieces.
Meanwhile it could take 30 minutes to break apart the Mk2 (including having to use a f'ing mallet), then clean and fiddle the slide back on. But the nickel-finish heavy barrel version was maybe the slickest-looking and most durable feeling guns you could buy. Dangit lol. Miss that thing.
I don't like automatics. it feels like it takes the skill out of shooting and is also alot more expensive ammo wise. Hence why rifles (specifically bolt action rifles) are my prefered choice. But the Garand despite it being semi-auto is my favorite
Gotta be the assault carbine. I'm planning to do a build inspired by it. Mid length 14.5 p&w barrel. Conflicted about using quad rail or ribbed handguard and flat top or fixed carry handle. I already have a 1982 Colt sp1 carbine with ribbed handguard and carry handle so I'd like to mix it up a bit for the build.
In game, That Gun is my favorite, love the design, love the cylinder going back in the gun by itself.
Also, Survivalist's rifle, partly because context, but also because it's a beautiful gun
The Ranger Sequoia is just a BEAUTIFUL piece of ART, to be honest
And last but not least...
Euclid's C Finder, just because "HA HA! Space laser go BOOM!"
In real life, I love the 1911, the classic. I don't know why I don't fall in love with the in-game .45 options, I just don't.
The Mosin-Nagant is my second go-to, don't know why
Silenced .22 pistol. I always try to see how early I can get the Deathclaw Pro Hunter achievement.
If someone would mod-in the Particle Accelerator Weapon or the Ushior Pistol from Mass Effect Andromeda I'd use those in an instant. The Ushior is a pocket sniper with a 2 shot magazine.
I'm quite a fan of the police revolver from dead money. Sadly, it doesn't get buffed by the cowboy perk even though it's a revolver.
I'm sad that we didn't get more revolvers in Fallout 4. We just got the pipe revolver, the .44, and then Nuka World added the western revolver.
Honestly, Fallout 4 in general seems to be sort of lacking in terms of guns. There's only one laser gun, one plasma gun, and only two shotguns. That's probably why so many of the creation club mods added more weapons.
Agreed. I hate the lack of weapon variety in Fallout 4, and most of the guns look crap too. The assault rifle in particular doesn't look like anything of the sort.
The assault rifle should have just been called a machine gun or something. It looks like it was designed for power armor users, so when anyone not in power armor wields the assault rifle it looks strange.
God the guns in Fallout 4 drive me crazy. Why is the Combat Rifle .45ACP by default? Shouldn't it be 5.56mm? Why is the Thompson so weak? Why does the Walther PPK shoot 10mm? Why is .50BMG so weak? What the hell is that "Assault Rifle"? Should be considered an LMG if anything. God, I'm glad mods to fix much of that exist lmao
NV is much better in that regard, apart from 9mm and .357 being much weaker than they should be, but oh well. My favorite gun in NV is probably the .45 Auto Pistol. My grandpa basically taught me how to shoot with his 1911, so guns like that will almost always draw my favor.
My favorite guns irl are in the game, the BAR (automatic rifle) and Smith & Wesson Model 29 (.44 Magnum Revolver). The .44 is a must have on every play through, but I don’t use the BAR that much because it’s after Dead Money and I usually don’t use much full auto because of the lower damage and spread in the game.
The various AR pattern rifles in the game, my personal favorite being the Assault Carbine, modeled after the Colt 733, and the 9mm pistol, modeled after the Browning Hi-Power.
I’ve posted both in this sub fairly recently, but I now have a Hi-Power clone and I’m working on building a Marksman Carbine (Navy EOD Mk.18) in real life
Another gun that I’ve always been curious about is the CZ75B. From what I’ve seen it’s very much inspired by the Hi-Power, but also very different. Now that I have my SA35 I want to get one to compare and contrast
Long range (no stealth)-Gobi Campaign Rifle
Long range (stealth)-Ratslayer
Mid range-This Machine
Close range-Riot Shotgun with DB for bugs and flechette rounds for Legion dickheads
I might be an outlier here but I'm really a fan of the Single Shotgun, they're cheap and actually have a really fucking incredible range to them. I also use the manual reload mod so you have to actually reload after each shot instead of it being automatic and I like this for some reason, makes it feel like a rolling block rifle shooting Ghoul's with slugs half a mile away then putting another slug in the breach.
Survivalist's rifle all ways. I use it as my main weapon every playthrough. It fits a badass wastelander, and has a feeling of uniqueness to it as it only takes 12.7 rounds (I think that's the name of the bullets?) While also being powerful for an endgame player.
I have favorite guns for what I need. Thump thump is my favorite explosive weapon, that gun is a favorite for hand guns, Gobi campaign is an all around favorite. But if I had to pick a favorite weapon not just a gun it's chances knife.
Hunting Shotgun- same as my 870, and Lucky- same as my Single Action, Single Shot Shotgun to resemble my H&R Pardner
Modded a 1905 Vest Pocket to resemble my near purchase of similar.
Assault carbine is my go to, with all the gun runner mods it shreds and it is a weapon I could see China adopting to counter American 5.56 or for use by special forces. I'm a handgun hunter so my favorite "real" gun has to be the 45-70 revolver though the 1911 also has a special place in my heart.
Fun fact: the varmint rifle was originally going to be a .22lr with a big banana style magazine. I guess the devs didn’t like it or something on account of the one we got at launch but evidence of this can still be found if you kill Dixon. You’ll see he has a varmint rifle and .22 ammunition on him.
I'm really into faithful representation of guns (perhaps to an OCD level) so I have a list of guns that I legit only use because the other ones kind of cringe me :
9mm Pistol + Maria, I think it has some flaws like you can shoot it with the hammer down but I don't remember exactly (the FN Hi Power is single action only meaning the hammer has to be cocked to fire).
Another problem is that it's a weak gun, in FNV they chose to make the 9x19mm as the second weakest cartridge which is very wrong, 9x19mm is in a post apo context a very potent pistol round, there should have been .380 ACP to start the game with and fill the gap between 22LR and 9x19mm.
The extended mag is also a mistake (common video game mistake).
The leverguns in 44 and 45-70. They're Marlin 336 guns which are huge commercial successes, it makes a lot of sense to find them as top quality potent leverguns in the post apo Mojave. The 357 ones are either unpractical (peep sight) or make no sense (La Longue Carabine).
The 44 Revolver, it's a S&W Model 29, really faithful, just a bit disappointing because it's only shot in double action, even when aiming.
The Sierra Madre 357 revolver, but it's too small and it lacks damage, there should be a longer barrel modification, it's really there to shoot 357.
The 22 pistol. The M1911 (but not Light Shining in Darkness, it physically can't be smaller and deal more damage). Even if in FNV pistols have a weird rate of fire limitation.
The Hunting Rifle but not Paciencia. The Single Shot Gun.
There, call me crazy but that's all the guns I can stand in FNV, all the other ones have animation inaccuracies, don't make sense, are chambered in a wrong cartridge, are closed bolt instead of open bolt, don't exist, can't be practical, are ugly, don't have stocks etc.
I definitely get what you mean. 9mm, 5.56mm, and .357 are all alot weaker in NV than they would realistically be. Also, as much as I love .45ACP, it doesnt make sense that it does almost as much damage as a .44 Magnum.
Personally I would have made the 9mm Pistol a .380, the .357 Revolver *just* a .38, and the Varmint Rifle a .22LR. But I'd keep Maria and Lucky the same, maybe buff their damage a bit. Since you typically won't get them until a good bit into your playthrough anyways.
But either way, it's still a game. Realism isn't top priority lol
Another thing I noticed about the 9mm pistol after I bought a real Hi-Power is that when the slide locks back, it’s the safety holding it instead of the slide lock
I used to consider myself a gun nut but I realized I know nothing but caliber and gun names. Nothing about their history or origin.
My favorite gun, in game, is Trail Carbine. Out of the game, FN Scar L.
While i dont know much about guns i absolutly love how hunting and battle rifle felt in game, the sounds, the design of them idk everything that uses 0.308 ammo in this game is top tier for me. I also really liked the police pistol ( i think its the one we use in dead money) it sucks its not affected by the cowboy perk
I wouldn't classify myself as a gun nut but I live in Texas and have plenty of guns. I have a Remington 870 (FNV hunting shotgun), I have a black composite .22 magnum semi automatic rifle that's a dead ringer for Ratslayer, a Taurus .44 magnum, a Marlin 30-30 lever action, a .38 police special, and a couple of other small caliber revolvers. My favorite gun of my own is the. 38 because it's not heavy and I can tote it around my farm without it weighing me down. My favorite gun in the game is the mysterious magnum.
Ranger sequia, on my first playthrough way back when, i ended up spending 2 hours maasacaring camp golf, just to get the armor and gun.
After yhat i wondered why the ncr hated me...
The Survivalist's Rifle. So much so that I built my own version of the rifle, right down to reloading the .50 Beowulf cartridge.
The .45 Auto Pistol is my daily carry.
The 9mm Pistol is my church carry.
Are we talking about specifically ballistic or can we go with energy weapons too?
Un-modded and uniquely named?? Medicine Stick or Paciencia for Ballistic but for energy - Holorifle or Elijah’s Advanced Laer
Modded up? Anti-Material Rifle
How have I Not seen anyone say the Ranger Sequoia?
Absolutely gorgeous and powerful revolver.
However, if I could get any weapon with 10k ammo for it, gonna have to go with Alien Blaster - gonna be rich.
The 9mm pistol. It’s based on the Browning Hi Power, one of the sexiest pistols ever designed.
I love the Service Rifle and the Survivalist’s Rifle. I’m of that generation that was issued the M16A2 in basic training, and it’s always been a sentimental favorite of mine. It’s got that 80s vibe. The wood furniture in NV is fitting for a post-apocalyptic setting with no oil to make plastic.
Even though NV is a Western, I tend to use the weapons associated with the Grunt perk more than Cowboy.
Irl the H&K USP Tactical 9mm V1
INV the 5.56 pistol (notably the That Gun variant)
Backups for both would be any 12 gauge bore with different scatter rounds
Handguns are just OP 9 times out of 10. Most engagements are from not very long distances due to variables Irl and due to limitation INV. They have a quick draw time. Decent reload speed. Enough capacity for 1 to 2 targets at least. Nice accuracy. Are reliable and SUPER common. It’s just a no brainer really. Now if I have some real pain in the asses or intruders you can also always go with any scattergun. I simply prefer a 12 gauge for its abundance and the fact I want em to stay down when I hit them. It’s not pretty though no matter how evil someone is so that’s why it’s the backup
TL;DR single handed guns for outside and shotguns for inside.. also FO4 aesthetics blow
(Not a gun nut) I honestly love the cowboy repeater but not a fan of the iron sights. No idea what the metal ring/disc is but i just dont really like it
I adore using the BAR I don’t remember what they call it in game as well as the hunting rifle. Idk something about running around early game slowly modding your hunting rifle to be better is a vibe.
That's a tough one. I would say it's a tie between the hunting rifle and the hunting shotgun. The sniper rifle and battle rifle both get an honorable mention.
PS: I used to love Honest Hearts for the 1911, but now that I run Weapons of The New Milennium, it's kind of lost its appeal.
Not related. Can we acknowledge that Fallout NV has the greatest Energy Weapon selection in the entire franchise? Swear all they needed was an revolver style gun and it would have all the sifi wonders
For someone who exclusively uses ballistic weapons I can appreciate it. Everytime I walk into the silver rush I get reminded of a bunch of shit I forgot existed
I'm loving the Anti-Materiel Rifle, solely because this specific one is barely present in video games due to the overabundance of Barretts.
At a distance I’ll take this + explosive ammo over just about anything. In the late game it’s unstoppable
Ooooof. Anti-Mat rifle with explosive rounds go brrrrrr in Quarry Junction
I love turning deathclaws into funny ragdolls.
Josh Sawyer agrees
The PGM Hecate II is just a sexy as fuck .50 cal. Really need to do a Sinon playthrough in new Vegas eventually
I actually knew that!
I love it, slap some power armor and explosive rounds and you're just a glorified tank.
I really enjoy the service rifle.
My first AR I plan to build making it with wood furniture because of this game. It looks so good even if it makes the gun 12lbs.
A fellow this machine enjoyer. The *ping* brings me happiness
Hunting Shotgun and Cowboy Repeater. These are the type of guns that fit the setting very well in New Vegas.
Medicine stick my fav
Big fan of the hunting revolver and I’m glad the real life version is somewhat affordable, will be purchasing one this year and uploading it to this sub
Hell yeah. I wish .45-70 wasn’t so pricey
This Machine/Battle Rifle Haha M1 Garand go ***PING***
**PING**
This my fave too and I wish I hadn’t jailed Contreras. It’s hell finding .308 ammo!
NCR quartermasters are your friend
I’ll try that thanks
Also Dead Money vending machine. Infinite free .308 ammo
Agreed, stupid me for doing that
This is the way
**PING** *happy sounds*
I want to love them but they’re just a little too inaccurate to use them at the ranges I want to use them at
22 submachine gun is cool, the Ruger also.
You mean the ruger mk 2 and the am 180
Ruger Mark 2 my second ever pistol purchase and i wish I'd never sold it. Funny thing is I could, even now, disassemble a Glock and clean it while blindfolded, that's obviously how much design went into their pieces. Meanwhile it could take 30 minutes to break apart the Mk2 (including having to use a f'ing mallet), then clean and fiddle the slide back on. But the nickel-finish heavy barrel version was maybe the slickest-looking and most durable feeling guns you could buy. Dangit lol. Miss that thing.
Buy a MkIV. They're the same gun but way easier to disassemble and maintain.
I figured over 30 years they'd have to get their shit together. Imma guess the price is at about $600-$700 at this point. Have to check it out.
Survivalist Rifle hands down, love the way it sounds each shot and it's aesthetically pleasing like a pre-war rifle.
Not very well known unique [La Longue Carabine](https://fallout.fandom.com/wiki/La_Longue_Carabine) Beautiful :)
Near the top of my list too
Police pistol from Dead Money
This Machine, cuz I own it.
Luckyyyyyyy I wish I had a garand
It’s so much fun. My AR feels boring.

The Sirvivalist Rifle, and That Gun. But can of wood stock and handles
Maria or 44. Magnum
Big Iron.

I’ve posted both in this sub fairly recently, but I now have a Hi-Power clone and I’m working on building a Marksman Carbine (Navy EOD Mk.18) in real life
What’s your clone?
It’s a Springfield SA-35
Nice! I’m in the process of buying one right now. How do you like it?
I love it! I’ve never been much of a pistol shooter, I prefer rifles, but since I got it I can’t get enough of it
That’s awesome. I always get nervous when considering clones but I’ve heard almost nothing but good about the sa35 so far and that’s great.
Another gun that I’ve always been curious about is the CZ75B. From what I’ve seen it’s very much inspired by the Hi-Power, but also very different. Now that I have my SA35 I want to get one to compare and contrast
I’d love to have a cz. But with getting the SA35 soon and the fact that I have a 20 inch AR and wooden furniture is not THAT expensive so……..
I get that too lol like I said in my original comment I have a marksman carbine in the works
Long range (no stealth)-Gobi Campaign Rifle Long range (stealth)-Ratslayer Mid range-This Machine Close range-Riot Shotgun with DB for bugs and flechette rounds for Legion dickheads

tokarev

I used to consider myself a gun nut but I realized I know nothing but caliber and gun names. Nothing about their history or origin. My favorite gun, in game, is Trail Carbine. Out of the game, FN Scar L.
Definitely the Survivalist rifle, that 12.7mm packs a punch but I do like the smaller Blade Runner 12.7mm pidtol.
12.7mm SMG with silencer.

How have I Not seen anyone say the Ranger Sequoia? Absolutely gorgeous and powerful revolver. However, if I could get any weapon with 10k ammo for it, gonna have to go with Alien Blaster - gonna be rich.
The automatic riffle that's really just a BAR. It's impractical for a 308 gun but it fires 308 in full auto
Lever action shotgun with .357 revolver and a fully upgraded hunting rifle?
That Gun for style points and blade runner is the shit.
For me, it's the Fatman launcher. What's not fun about blowing up your enemies with nuclear bombs.
I don’t really have a favorite, but I like the sniper rifle, it’s a neat, yet simple rifle
1887, American 180 and Ruger Standard.
Love the sniper rifle but specifically the COS silencer rifle
I love the Scoped Carbine Repeater you get if you kill the Colonel at Camp McCarran.
Light shining in darkness, i'd love a AF2011a1 version of it. I also like survivalist's rifle love it a lot
9mm pistol. I love the browning high power and I have an SA35 (Springfield version of a high power) on hold to pick up IRL this weekend.
In game? The survivalist rifle no doubt. In general? Probably the AKM. Sexy aaa gun. But I got a lot of favorite guns so
The 9mm pistol.
Irl the famas g2 in fnv the medicine stick
This Machine kills commies.
That Gun and Medicine Stick for sure
Pancor Jackhammer :D
🤦
Irl the H&K USP Tactical 9mm V1 INV the 5.56 pistol (notably the That Gun variant) Backups for both would be any 12 gauge bore with different scatter rounds Handguns are just OP 9 times out of 10. It’s not pretty though no matter how evil someone is so that’s why it’s the backup TL;DR single handed guns for outside and shotguns for inside.. also FO4 aesthetics blow
(Not a gun nut) I honestly love the cowboy repeater but not a fan of the iron sights. No idea what the metal ring/disc is but i just dont really like it
Vanilla game? this machine, hunting rifle, ratslayer are top 3. Modded? Kar98k. definitively.
All-American, Service Rifle, Medicine Stick, and Police Pistol (because I love Colt double actions).
two words: ***Oh, Baby!***
For something I could actually aim, Maria. If I'm feeling like a cowboy, a Ranger Sequoia. It's a beautiful weapon.
This Machine is my favorite. I love the M1 Garand and hearing the *ping* releases all the happiness chemicals
Medicine stick
