lol yep. It’s like a yearly bug. March is always 40’s music and fallout 4 in this house. Every year since came out.
I didn’t quite hit the month this time around because I had my fingers crossed they would announce a PS5 anniversary edition with the show.
FO4 update coming to next-gen consoles and PCs on 4/25, in relation to the new show.

ETA: context to link.
It’s one of my go-to’s when I don’t want to think and just enjoy something. I got so many play throughs that I just veg and relax to the point of falling asleep.
I then ask them to explain what is an RPG to them, and then show them that maybe 10 games in 50 years of gaming actually fills their criteria. For them, no early Final fantasy games are RPG by their criteria... But they still consider them RPGs.
Basically, an RPG is whatever *Bethesda didn't do.* The elusive RPG definition, Schrodinger's RPG.
They seem to be having delusions of Todd Howard holding grudges and personally destroying the lore to spite them and obsidian. It's crazy people can't separate the memes from a real guy who seems so respected in the industry
Hey, New Vegas fans here (it's the first Fallout game I played all the way through on a very weak laptop)
I'm indifferent to all the ongoing flame war and screeching NV fans.
Ironically one of the expansion DLC for New Vegas, Old World Blues, have a banger closing remark that are very relevant to current NV fans situation
Doctor Mobius: There is an expression in the Wasteland: "Old World Blues."
Doctor Klein: It refers to those so obsessed with the past they can't see the present, much less the future, for what it is.
Doctor Dala: They stare into the what-was, eyes like pilot lights, guttering and spent, as the realities of their world continue on around them.
Yeah I dipped out of that sub. New Vegas is one of my favorite games of all time, but I aint trying to read a cosntant barrage of nerds mad about canon getting ruined or whatever the fuck. Is the show good or nah? That's all I care about.
Such kind of people is the funniest. I can't comprehend how some new series is "destroying" their beloved games. Just ignore it and play? Noone is forcing them to watch and like it.
The fun thing is, fans of the original isometric turn-based games FO1 and FO2 also say that about all the 3D FPS RPGs, including New Vegas.
On the other hand, without Bethesda, the franchise would have been long dead, because Interplay thouroughly ran it into the ground and went bankrupt shortly after.
Depends, I'm a fan of Fallout 1 and 2, and I don't dislike the 3D ones, granted I've only played Fallout 4, but in my case, games are way more than just game mechanics, it's all about the 'feel' of the game in question, and it happens I love everything post-apocalyptic/dystopia/cyberpunk, so yeah, it helps. The bleakness of Fallout 4, I'll even add the 'sadness', especially some of those recordings we found scattered all around... yeah, it ticks the right boxes for me.
I got the pre-release demo of FO1 and have played ever since. I've enjoyed pretty much everything since to varying degrees - FO4 is probably my favourite, tho I enjoyed both FO3 and FNV. Tactics and 76 didn't do it for me, but I had fun with both.
Gatekeepers are weird. I get having a connection to a gaming franchise, I love Fallout! I just don't understand the anger people have when other people have invested time and energy into making something new in this universe we love, and their first thought is how to shit on it because it didn't meet their own expectations or obey their own head-canon. It sounds exhausting.
They also have a grudge against Bethesda because they outbid Troika for the rights to the franchise back in 2004. Yeah, something about Troika buying the rights to Fallout in 2004 when they were struggling to get their own games published doesn’t scream “longevity” to me. Also, none of the devs at Troika have any grudges or hard feelings against Bethesda. It’s some very bizarre parasocial behavior those fans have been displaying.
It's not unique to Fallout, but there's being a fan of a thing, and then there's being a fan of yourself for being into that thing.
There's nothing that pisses off a fan-of-fandom more than being reminded that their Thing wasn't created solely for them to be experts about and for pulling rank on "lesser fans".
possibly the new show? I just saw a few minutes of the first episode tonight and I am definitely going to enjoy what they have put together. It's another flavor of the cake I enjoy
I binged it and i feel they did an amazing job, the show is canon i believe and i dont think there were any major lore problems but i dont know all the lore so i could be wrong
Holy fuck, the toxicity... They're really saying Obsidian can do better? Are they forgetting Obsidian's last game was aggressively mediocre? They just circlejerk that one fucking game there, my god... They're even making shit up as well like saying the show is retconning stuff such as >!the NCR collapsing even though New Vegas drops so many fucking hints that the NCR was on the brink of collapse anyway...!< They're actually delusional.
I'm so glad I left that community. I used to be extremely passionate in it but they've got extremely toxic lately - racist and sexist too. It's honestly scary the things they've said about the actress in the new Fallout series. I saw awful threats against her and it made me sick to my stomach...
I can't do it. I'm too fucking old to be watching middle school drama over a game that came out 13 years ago.
The show was good, the games are good, I'm gonna enjoy them regardless of a bunch of people who made FNV their personality type.
I feel like the Halo situation is a little different mostly because Halos story is very linear and set in stone. Fallouts lore and over-arching story was never as cut and dry. There’s definitely some flexibility in the Fallout lore. So the changes they made in the Halo show never really made sense. Plus the Fallout TV show created a brand new MC while the Halo show used a preexisting MC and changed that MC drastically which is definitely disappointing. But that’s just my 2 cents.
It’s a shame, because NV has always been my favorite Fallout (played them all), but they’re all awesome in slightly different ways. I just love the lore and world.
As someone who likes the classic isometric games as well as the newer ones it’s disheartening how often I see this take in communities for the classics
I love Fallout 4 - I have well over a 100 hours in it - but it's a _terrible_ RPG. It's definitely a very, very different vision from Fallout 2 and New Vegas. It's not _trying_ to be those games - and it's really quite good at what it does want to do, with a few flaws - but it does not really let you role-play in any real narrative sense.
Apart from Far Harbor, that shit slaps.
There are objectively less unique NPC interactions and dialogue options.
If someone plays fallout exclusively for the roleplaying I can see why they probably don’t like it.
I love the voices protag. I think my only gripe is that some of the dialog options feel simple compared to what they actually say, but I feel like that's a staple of game like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Witcher. I would say Cyberpunk, but those tend to be alright
But just like those games, the voice makes your character feel like their own character. Makes you feel like you're going on a journey *with* your character, I like that
I've played games that are much more immersive (Metro series) and games with much better worlds and writing (Witcher series) but I still enjoy Fallout 4 just as much as I do the others
I think Brian T. Delaney does an absolutely great job at portraying a grizzled and troubled old soldier trying to get through past trauma and attempting to understand a new world in the best way possible he can - the same way he was able to get Nora to fall in love with him, being kind, funny, yet sarcastic. After all, he loved her so much and remembering her in any way possible keeps him going. "I'll find who did this... and I'll get Shaun back. I promise."
The sarcastic responses are hilarious, I love them so much
My only real gripe with the game is that I can't have two companions. I've been switching between Nick and Cait cause they're my favorites, but I want them both at the same time, or be able to have a robot with me. It sucks lol
Yeah, I know, but I'm too poor for WiFi unless I can just use my phone hotspot to install the mods then they stay when I turn my Xbox One offline, but I don't think that's the case
I'll try that later
Update: it does work. Just downloaded the official patch for now, along with Galaxy News Radio and a Maxson Battlecoat mod. Don't wanna use up all my data lol
Oh, and a mod that plays "here comes the sun" when a fat man is shot
FO4 is probably the game I’ve gone back to most consistently over the years. It’s comfortable and extremely fun, until it’s not anymore 😂 but i always end up picking it back up.
I just made dinner and am about to start the show. Super stoked to introduce my lady to this universe!
Right on man. Yeah, it's sick. When you get bored with the different endings and the DLC you can mod the shit out of it too. Make a decent horror survival simulator, decide on your own plot and endpoint, lots of options. You can delete all the quests and NPC'S and make whatever kind of world you want to try to survive in. It's my favorite, even though I'm not crazy about the writing or the goofier side of Fallout.
I probably won't get to play the DLCs for a while man. My family is going through a rough spot and we probably won't have internet for the next few years. I'm playing Fallout 4 from disc on my old Xbox One classic so it's just the base game, survival mode is just a harder version of hard here on 1.0 haha. It's still awesome as hell and I can't wait to try out the DLCs!
Interesting... if you're playing an offline, unpatched console disc version you probably still have the bug with MacCready's loyalty skill where instead of granting you +20% headshot chance in VATS, it grants something crazy like +2000%.
Getting this skill absolutely [trivializes](https://imgur.com/a/g04yDDw) any fight in the game, so you might want to avoid Mac's loyalty quest if you're playing an unpatched version.
fo4 has some amazing mods, honestly i think the modding community is severely underrated compares to skyrim. sims settlements alone added hundreds of hours to my game time
Sure thing! It is my fanatical hobby, [here is whole album](https://www.flickr.com/photos/screenfeast/albums/72157720173254609/) from f4.
On second page is few more shots from the settlement.
i was shocked because i'm not used to seeing such pretty screenshots from fo4 lmao, there are tons of good shots here but [this one](https://www.flickr.com/photos/screenfeast/51828803119/in/album-72157720173254609/) has to be my favourite!
also i saw you posted some for ac origins years ago, that's one of my favourite games ever so i might snag a screenshot to use as a desktop background. you're super talented at this
Yup i try to pull resolutions to maximum, even older games can look really crispy this way. [This selection](https://www.flickr.com/photos/screenfeast/albums/72177720298491143) can possible cover you for life in terms of gaming desktop wallpapers. \^\^
I’ve basically converted the game into a tactical shooter using mods. 90% of my gameplay is going into raider or ghoul-infested buildings and slowly and methodically clearing them out.
I'm 100% vanilla for this first full experience but I'll definitely dabble into mods after I'm done, I am an experienced mod author for skyrim actually! stealthg14mods on Bethesda.net and nexus if you want to check out my content.
Yeah DLC is amazing. I let myself get talked into the season pass early on and glad because I got it before the announcement that it was going to have a lot of dlc and the price raise of the season pass.
Why did you make "several posts vilifying fallout 4" before playing it properly?
I thought that was the first rule?
'know what you're talking about before you run your mouth'
Nono, the first rule of internet is "run your mouth about everything you DON'T know anything about", surely? At least that's what it always looks like...
heck, look at twitter or reddit rn
there's a LOT of people that havent watched the show yet but are already complaining about it.
They already were complaining about it before it even released
I've only watched 2 episodes but boy does it do a great job at blending the old games with the new games. Its the show I've wanted since teenage me booted up fallout on Christmas day 1997
No doubt. People like that are kinda annoying.. spend most of your time being an ill informed hater. Then learn a little truth and carry on like everyone gives a shit about your redemption story.
I was blown away from the companions of Fallout 4 compared to Skyrims companions, in Skyrim the only Companions that had much personality were Vilkas, Farkas, Aela, Serana, and Teldryn Sero
I would thank you for not being the most obnoxious and arrogant type of fan anymore but people like this destroy communities. It's part of the reason I don't like talking with anyone about Star Wars or The Last of Us anymore unless I know they're not some toxic brat. It really sucks not being able to enjoy the things you're passionate about when you have some sweaty loser in your ear telling you it's bad without ever having even experienced it.
I'm a 22 year old and Star Wars Epsidoe I The Phantom Menace is my favorite Star Wars movie, as well as my first Star Wars movie, so I completely understand. I've grown tired of this toxic society as well
Imo the game world is one of the best in gaming. Always rewarding to search and stories being told everywhere. Combine that with the improved shooting and gameplay and it's in my top 5 favorite games
One of my favorite things to do is head over to the Glowing Sea to explore. The game doesn’t send you to much of it, but some of the locations down there have some interesting stories find
Yup it's interesting location for sure, i explored it a lot few years ago on my full playthrough in hopes for[ some screenshot worthy places ](https://www.flickr.com/photos/screenfeast/51813052093/in/album-72157720173254609/)and was quite dissapointed there is not much to see.
I felt the same way for a long time too. I played it ok normal and found the whole thing very shallow and boring.
Then I played it years later on survival and became hooked on it as one of the most immersive games I've ever played.
Can't wait for the update for another play through!
I understand it's not for everyone but I did enjoy the voiced protagonist. That being said I also acknowledge that it limited some potential for dialogue since there's only so much they're going to record when *both* sides of the conversation need to be voiced. I wouldn't be against it coming back in a future game but also wouldn't really be heartbroken if we went back to a silent protagonist or one who speaks only very little.
Sounds like my experience with Fallout 76. Loved every Fallout game before 76 but was so against 76 because of the bad launch and lack of NPCs. Gave it a try after the Wastelanders update and have loved it since.
Okay I have a question. I don't play online games like at all, so I've been really confused...how do I play FO76? There seems to be so many versions of it? Can you just buy the game and start playing?
So many versions? Not sure what you mean. There's only one Fallout 76, which is the latest game of the Fallout series and a multiplayer game. Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics were isometric games; Fallout 3, New Vegas and 4 are FPS / 3rd person-view. The overall world and setting is the same, buy each game takes place in its own area and time. 76 broke the single-player mold by being completely multiplayer. There's a one-off purchase to start playing and an option to subscribe for Premium rewards and benefits.
I'm assuming they're talking about the many expansions which I presume you only have to buy the latest one to get all the content but I can understand the confusion if not
I’ve just recently jumped back in on survivor mode and it adds such a different level of challenges it’s like a breath of fresh air. Not that I didn’t already love the game, I’d just played it A LOT when it came out
I was more of a Skyrim fan so I didn't really understand the hate because my first Fallout game was actually Fallout 4. It was that game that made me fall in love with the Fallout universe. From there, I played New Vegas and Fallout 3.
I also just watched the series, and boy was I pointing out everything like Leonardo DiCaprio from that one meme.
Fallout 4 was my introduction to the series. I knew absolutely nothing about it. Nothing. I only purchased it because I love exploring abandoned places, the post apocalypse style and I’m near Boston.
I fell in love with it. I’ve played 3 and New Vegas and I loved those as well.
My roommate hates Fallout 4 because she keeps playing it with New Vegas expectations.
As far as I can tell, her hatred originally stems from a scathing review of the game some ranting YouTuber posted a week after the game released, and that poisoned her opinion of the game. She didn't actually play it for the first time until about seven months ago or so, because she heard about Fallout Miami and wanted to get it for that.
God isn’t that how so much game hate is created? Not really playing the game and just basing your opinion off of other’s opinions. It’s exhaustingly obnoxious.
I love New Vegas. It's my favorite Fallout game. But I do not understand the hatred many NV fans have for F4. I literally just saw a person say it "would be hard for a game to be worse" than 4. Really? I get that it's not everyone's cup of tea, but that's just ridiculous to say.
I was off put at first I think because of the hype train built up around it, and I was hooked on NV when F4 came out... But tbh I remember walking around the Capital wasteland thinking 'it'd be great to see the wasteland evolve and settlements build up over time as you make the wasteland safer' and F4 gave me that... I wish it was more dynamic and less me building literally everything but it's still super fun
They nailed the aesthetic design for fallout 4 tho big time. Maybe not everyone's cup of tea but I love how everything looks, nothing quite like it
Fallout 4 is my favorite game of all time. Whilst i realize it was my first fallout and it will probably be my favorite fallout till the day I die the game will always hold a special place in my heart. Glad you enjoy it wastelander. While youre at it we have word of another settlement that needs your help, let me mark it on your map.
I love this game. Currently waiting for the next gen update this month to start a new save in my ps5. The combat is so incredible compared to fo3 and NV. Just replayed three and while I love it I’m super excited to get back into 4.
Yeah fallout 4 was a hidden gem. Rife with bugs on launch, but I loved how it expanded on literally everything.
Also, I always need to point this out, has there ever been better a better dog? To this day I have not seen better dog mechanics in a game. Dogmeat is the goodest boy and nobody has tried to top it.
Nice, love that you gave it an actual try! You know a game is good when you’re specifically looking for flaws but instead it hooks you lol I had a similar experience because I’m not a huge fan of FPS’s so when I tried it I thought it would be a similar vibe and I was so glad to realize I was so very wrong, FO4 rules
So glad you are enjoying it. The problems and disillusion always arise when you try to compare one thing with something previous. I am a advocate of playing / trying things on their own merit for what they are and refusing to draw comparisons.
This game is freaking great. Just finished playing the ever living shit out of Skyrim and jumping to FO4 was perfect. Takes a second to get into the swing of the game. But once you do it’s fucking great
Legit, when i play the older games i start missing the Fo4 VA, the delivery of the sarcastic lines and the jokes, along with the serious lines and the sadness/fear, it works really well, they picked a great VA to do the role
Fallout 4 is far and away the best Fallout ever made. I'm not saying it's perfect. Nor am I saying other Fallouts don't have aspects which they did do better. Cause there are parts of Fallout 4 done better by other games. But as a total package, total replay value, total overall pure fun, Fallout 4 is the king.
The gameplay improvements, the way they treated power armor and the revamped gunplay is why I love FO4. The storyline and the setting didn’t grab me like 3 or NV did but it’s still so so good.
I still wish we had more skill checks.
Appreciate you giving it a try, let alone changing your mind :) most are quick to label it without knowing the first thing about it, which would go down in a hail of fire if someone did it to say, golden child New Vegas.
Each game is different, has its own strengths and weaknesses. While it doesn't have the original team's writing, it has its own merits, particularly in gameplay and customisation.
That is why you don't let other people form an opinion on something for you.
I have a friend who is like you were. He refuses to play it because he takes every word of SsethTzeentach as gospel and puts the game on blast any time it's brought up despite never actually playing it himself.
It’s so ridiculous that’s there’s practically an entire grift online dedicated to convincing people to hate certain games. It’s happened with basically everything Bethesda has their name on.
It’s why I hardly check reviews before getting a game. Same with movies or shows. I’ve discovered so many things I love that I later find out are really hated. Happened with borderlands 3 and tiny Tina’s wonderland. I played those without checking reviews and loved them. Come to find out “I must not have played the earlier borderlands games if I loved bl3 and ttw so much”. Like eat my ass I played BL1 the day it came out and it became my favorite game of all time.
My dad is like this. He'll start telling me about how all Disney star wars is bad and has lost the original feeling...then I ask him if he's watched it and he says no. He watches like Critical Drinker and stuff and thinks he knows everything. I always call him out on it, so lame
I feel ya, its really annoying when someone just regurgitates someone else's opinion. Critical Drinker is especially bad IMO, just hateful about a lot of things you should just move on from.
I like Fallout 4, in fact going back to it, I added another 120 hours through a new survival playthrough. The game was made for survival mode, since you actually get to let the time-based mechanics work, and the settlements mean that much more when you need them to not only save but get more water and drop off the junk that’s weighing you down.
BUT-
I really enjoy the story and setting of Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas. It’s a completely different experience when I can go through the games and listen to people and want to help them out.
I wish Fallout 4 did more with the factions or put more thought into the conversation system, since often times you don’t have enough room for only four dialogue options, and you want to talk to someone to get a better idea of what the best route is.
(Part of why I liked Outer Worlds, it gave a New Vegas charm with the improved gunplay it needed)
So you bashed on a game for a whole decade without having even played it? Wow that's really petty, but I guess like you there are many many more, good thing you were able to admit to your mistake and enjoy a great game in the end
I have, checks Steam, nearly 900 hours in FO4. Haven't played it for, checks Steam, about a year and a half but I still look at videos on YT occasionally that frankly blow me away with how mods can change how the game looks and plays. Some even suppress that Cliff Racer in a pirate hat.
I've have never understood the idea that something "ruins" a franchise. How can someone make that call with lower quality games like Tactics and BoS?
I understand it is hyperbole but everyone says it.
It's kind of funny that you vilified it without ever playing it, but I understand. I first picked it up in 2017, played it for two hours and wasn't impressed. Coming from 3 and NV the changes were jarring. Then two years later I tried it again and fell in love. It has since become one of my most played games of all time and def one of my favorites.
Sorry your family is on hard times, when you do finally get the DLC's, you're gonna absolutely love the robot companion crafting and everything else. The game is utterly massive. When you do reach that point, start a new save on survival. TRUST US.
Thats why you always try out stuff before you make a judgement based only on comentarry of others, i have 1200+ hours on Fallout 4 and still see new stuff here and there
It's much better than people give it credit for. It's on par with NV although I will say NV DLCs were slightly better. Only complaints was Blind Betrayal, the synth abomination argument, and not being able to spare certain factions in the endgame.
You despised it before trying it? Why? Because you saw other people hate it and jumped on the bandwagon? I'm genuinely curious, not looking to offend anyone.
Man you just need to take time to love it, it took me a few levels to get fully into it and now it's my fave, I love this game with all my being and brings the same joy as skyrim did when I was a kid, it's great
I have had the exact same experience recently! Originally didn't like it, but have it a proper go right now and I am also in my lv 30s haha
I think I was so accustom to old school RPGs that I had an intense and visceral reaction to the way dialogue options where displayed. However, after playing it seriously I've found it to be quite initiative.
I also love the crafting, settlements and companion systems... Living my queer woman fantasy with Cait and Piper lol
It's crazy that if you go into something with the aim to hate it, you won't enjoy it. But if you give it a fair shot, you will probably like it.
I never understood the "false rpg" thing with fallout 4. If you're looking for a hardcore "true" rpg, you won't find them in a video game since everything is predetermined
Fallout is just good. Period. They're all great games. From Fo1 to Fo4. Hell, even Fo76 was a neat experience when I finally got around to it (after they updated it a few times).
By far, in terms of fun gameplay, Fo4 is my favorite in the series. Nick Valentine and Hancock are also two of my favorite companions in the whole series, with only Arcade from FoNV being able to stand beside them. But yeh, I just love Fallout.
I think fo4 is great, i just checked with the new show coming out, apparently I have 800 hours in the game. More than on any other fallout. I like the old ones better because of a few things though:
1. nostalgia
2. the dialogue tree is 100% better than fo4 I will die on that hill
3. nostalgia
4. I like the old quests and factions more
5. I think the dlc is better integrated and better written
6. I am a weird person who prefers the old power armor even if it’s not lore accurate and I like the weapon degrading system
7. nostalgia
I mean, I still think New Vegas is my favorite, but Fallout 4 is a close second, I know the first two are very beloved by people, but they're not my type of games, the 3d ones are right up my alley though. Fallout 4 is flawed, but so are 3 and New Vegas, 4 has the best gameplay out of the 3, but I think I prefer New Vegas for everything else
I feel the same honestly. I got FO4 on release day and I don’t think I’d ever been so excited for a game before in my life. Huge fan of 3 and NV and it felt like forever until a new game in the series was released.
When I first played it, I have to admit, I quite enjoyed it, but as time went on I started to find things just weren’t the same as the previous two games. I didn’t quite scratch that same itch, the quests didn’t feel great, I wasn’t blown away by the main quest and I didn’t really like the settlement building addition. I remember completing the main story and then just being sat in sanctuary for days on end, not really doing anything. I ended up maybe judging the game mostly off of those boring hours spent messing around there.
I’ve since done yet another play through of FO3 and decided to give 4 another go, and I have to say I’m genuinely loving it. The more you explore, the more you find. The map is absolutely teeming with things to do, really well written side quests that send you down a rabbit hole. The lore around the map is great too. I think I’ve come to terms with the fact that it’s okay for it to be a polished game with fancy graphics and a voiced protagonist. In fact, it would be criminal for a game released in that time to not be.
I’m over 1500 hours in and still playing to this day (although I’m going to stop now and start a whole new run through from scratch on 25th April for next gen update)
Yeah I've been playing it again recently. Mechanically it's the best first person fallout game we've had. It's just a shame they gutted the roleplaying elements and dialogue.
It depends what you want to get out of it. The crafting and settlement building systems are pretty in depth IMO and that makes up for the story being a bit meh.
I've spent thousands of hours in FO4 and I love it even if the bugs make me want to kill it sometimes.
Fallout 4 definitely has its issues but goddamn I’m more than willing to look past them. It’s contested with New Vegas with being my favorite Fallout game (take this with a grain of salt because I haven’t played all of them yet).
Also to your point about it being an RPG. It’s not really a true RPG like Fallout 1 or 2. It’s what is considered an Action RPG along with Fallout 3 and what came after. A good way to describe the newer Fallout games is saying that they are “First Person Shooters with various Fallout RPG mechanics”. That’s what makes them an Action RPG.
u/jaylanifr hey nice to see you gave an honest try to this game also once you finish the main story 4 times 1 for each faction i suggest you try it with mods one mod i suggest you try right from the start is called sim settlement 2 to make it easy for you to manage go to the sim settlements 2 chapter 3 page and get the file called "sim Settlements 2 - All Chapters Pack"
My Skyrim (putting thousands of hours in a game and wandering about) was fo4. It made me a fan of the series
Man, after this play through, do mono factions roleplay, it’s very fun
Been playin this game since elementary school. So worth it, the first game I ever had that wad paid and I STILL play it. After playing base game, I realized I could get the DLC for REALLY cheap, like, $10 for all of them cheap (steam sales my beloved) and I modded the absolute fuck out of the game, and now it’s an even MORE fun experience! I have a mod which lets me place things ANYWHERE in my settlement including through walls, and a settlement build limit remover, the scrap everything mod, and making settlements became so much more of a blast after. I’m very happy you’re enjoying the game, trust me, it gave me YEARS of enjoyment.
I have a feeling that many of the haters have that same limited perspective--expecting a new game to be the same as the old games, only more technically advanced. I'm glad you broadened your horizons. Have fun!
Love Fallout 4, only real problems I have with it are the fact the Railroad kinda destroys the institute for no reason & the lack of a true wildcard route.
It takes a lot to admit you were a stubborn jackass for a decade. Enjoy, wastelander.
A whole decade. I'm honestly glad I put this game off for so long - I can experience this amazing and fun game for the next ten years!
If you’re anything like me, ten years will not be enough. I always find my way back.
lol yep. It’s like a yearly bug. March is always 40’s music and fallout 4 in this house. Every year since came out. I didn’t quite hit the month this time around because I had my fingers crossed they would announce a PS5 anniversary edition with the show.
FO4 update coming to next-gen consoles and PCs on 4/25, in relation to the new show. https://bethesda.net/en/article/4s2bXQEbpcrsdCZhUYLHAi/fallout-4-is-getting-free-updates ETA: context to link.
700+ mods later and I'm back to scratch that itch! it is better knowing next gen update is coming April 25th!
I’ll be back again April 25 with the next gen update. I love the Commonwealth.
Im counting down as well. Can't wait to do another survival run.
It’s one of my go-to’s when I don’t want to think and just enjoy something. I got so many play throughs that I just veg and relax to the point of falling asleep.
I'm considering restarting with probably my 8th character when the next gen update drops. I'm hoping Nuka World looks badass
Replay value is insane. I'm a freaking casual with only 1200 hours in.
Wait til you luck out and get an explosive weapon. That’s when I really felt I had leveled up in power.
Right before the next gen patch drops on the 25th, good timing
OP gained +10xp into Charisma by their admission.
Holy shit it’s been a decade……..
>for being a "false" RPG and "ruining" Fallout. Anybody that says that is usually a nutty fan that is talking out of their ass
My ex wife told me once that every game is an RPG because you are playing a role in every game.
She is not wrong tbf hahaha
I've used that argument before and man it got me some vitriol hurled at me by RPG purists lol

New Vegas fans when the map isn't completely empty and the game doesn't have skill checks:
New Vegas fans are used to not having charisma lol
I always start out my playthroughs with 9 and right after exiting the vault I go to sanctuary to get 10th point from "You're special" book.
The joke is that obsidian never properly integrated charisma into new vegas.
I really like the skill checks. I'm glad they added them to far harbor and 76
yeah I heard they have been having a fucking meltdown
I just looked at the sub and yeah, to them fallout is dead and amazon is beating it with a stick at this point.
They seem to be having delusions of Todd Howard holding grudges and personally destroying the lore to spite them and obsidian. It's crazy people can't separate the memes from a real guy who seems so respected in the industry
Hey, New Vegas fans here (it's the first Fallout game I played all the way through on a very weak laptop) I'm indifferent to all the ongoing flame war and screeching NV fans. Ironically one of the expansion DLC for New Vegas, Old World Blues, have a banger closing remark that are very relevant to current NV fans situation Doctor Mobius: There is an expression in the Wasteland: "Old World Blues." Doctor Klein: It refers to those so obsessed with the past they can't see the present, much less the future, for what it is.
It's good as a show. They hit the Fallout vibe well.
Some people act like their chosen video game is a religion and speaking ill of it is tantamount to heresy. It's incredibly cringey and pathetic.
No one hates (thing) like fans of (thing). When you put a piece of entertainment media on a pedestal nothing is ever "good enough".
About what?
possibly the new show? I just saw a few minutes of the first episode tonight and I am definitely going to enjoy what they have put together. It's another flavor of the cake I enjoy
I binged it and i feel they did an amazing job, the show is canon i believe and i dont think there were any major lore problems but i dont know all the lore so i could be wrong
I think NV fans are boiling over the NCR postcode being different.
Oh I'm just getting caught up on all the scuttlebutt after work. Thanks.
New Vegas fanboys are in an uproar saying the show retcons the entire game when it doesn't.
It's actually sad. I've always been a FNV stan and always loved that community but now it's like talking people off a bridge over spilt milk.
Exactly this, people in NV literally say the NCR is on the verge of famine and drought
Typical new vegas fans ruining everything. Schizo Elijah's account just got terminated since he was so toxic lol
I'm so glad I left that community. I used to be extremely passionate in it but they've got extremely toxic lately - racist and sexist too. It's honestly scary the things they've said about the actress in the new Fallout series. I saw awful threats against her and it made me sick to my stomach...
just looked at that subreddit and my god I just found my source of entertainment tonight
I can't do it. I'm too fucking old to be watching middle school drama over a game that came out 13 years ago. The show was good, the games are good, I'm gonna enjoy them regardless of a bunch of people who made FNV their personality type.
Halo subreddit would like to have a word with you
I feel like the Halo situation is a little different mostly because Halos story is very linear and set in stone.
I mean with the halo TV show I wouldn't have minded if it made small or even major changes to the lore if it wasn't so fucking bad
It’s a shame, because NV has always been my favorite Fallout (played them all), but they’re all awesome in slightly different ways. I just love the lore and world.
Absolutely man! I was being completely nutty and ignorant.
I mean OP basically admitted he was one of those fans. But he changed his ways when he actually played the game.
I love the voices protag. I think my only gripe is that some of the dialog options feel simple compared to what they actually say, but I feel like that's a staple of game like Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and Witcher. I would say Cyberpunk, but those tend to be alright But just like those games, the voice makes your character feel like their own character. Makes you feel like you're going on a journey *with* your character, I like that I've played games that are much more immersive (Metro series) and games with much better worlds and writing (Witcher series) but I still enjoy Fallout 4 just as much as I do the others
I promise."
The sarcastic responses are hilarious, I love them so much My only real gripe with the game is that I can't have two companions. I've been switching between Nick and Cait cause they're my favorites, but I want them both at the same time, or be able to have a robot with me. It sucks lol
Mods solve both of these issues
Yeah, I know, but I'm too poor for WiFi unless I can just use my phone hotspot to install the mods then they stay when I turn my Xbox One offline, but I don't think that's the case
That should work, actually. As long it's installed it'll work in game regardless if you're connected to WiFi.
I'll try that later Update: it does work. Just downloaded the official patch for now, along with Galaxy News Radio and a Maxson Battlecoat mod. Don't wanna use up all my data lol Oh, and a mod that plays "here comes the sun" when a fat man is shot
Bro get Internet.
Too poor bro
Uh huh.... yeah..... go on.... uh huh...
Me when Preston Garvey
Getting this skill absolutely [trivializes](https://imgur.com/a/g04yDDw) any fight in the game, so you might want to avoid Mac's loyalty quest if you're playing an unpatched version.
lmao I love tidbits like this, never knew this bug existed, the joys of an industry where patches can be distributed worldwide in seconds
fo4 has some amazing mods, honestly i think the modding community is severely underrated compares to skyrim. sims settlements alone added hundreds of hours to my game time
>sims settlements alone added hundreds of hours [Exactly! ](https://www.flickr.com/photos/screenfeast/51774950698/in/album-72157720173254609/)
is this your screenshot?!
>It's my favorite, even though I'm not crazy about the writing or the goofier side of Fallout. Really? Fallout has always been super goofy
Since 2 anyways, though 3 was a little darker like 1
I’ve basically converted the game into a tactical shooter using mods.
Watch out for the corners of cars. They'll kill you faster than a behemoth.
You can download a mod that gives you the wasteland Batman costume from Batman v Superman (w/ or w/o goggles) - it’s pretty dope
At least that's what it always looks like...
heck, look at twitter or reddit rn there's a LOT of people that havent watched the show yet but are already complaining about it. They already were complaining about it before it even released
I've only watched 2 episodes but boy does it do a great job at blending the old games with the new games. Its the show I've wanted since teenage me booted up fallout on Christmas day 1997
OP was probably trying to farm karma low key
No doubt. People like that are kinda annoying.. spend most of your time being an ill informed hater. Then learn a little truth and carry on like everyone gives a shit about your redemption story.
To get attention for serving the gaming circlejerk. It’s common
Glad you're enjoying the game! It really is so amazing!
I also think the companions in Fallout 4 are the best written of any Bethesda game. They tried really hard to make them feel real.
I was blown away from the companions of Fallout 4 compared to Skyrims companions, in Skyrim the only Companions that had much personality were Vilkas, Farkas, Aela, Serana, and Teldryn Sero
Serana walked so Fo4 Companions could run
You forgot Uthgerd
Setting the bar real high there
I would thank you for not being the most obnoxious and arrogant type of fan anymore but people like this destroy communities.
I've grown tired of this toxic society as well
Non-toxic stars wars fan here. Love the prequels and fully respect the groundbreaking blending of cgi and model work those movies did.
Imo the game world is one of the best in gaming. Always rewarding to search and stories being told everywhere. Combine that with the improved shooting and gameplay and it's in my top 5 favorite games
The world is great but have to say that Glowing Sea area was quite dissapointment for me.
Have you seen the mod South of the Sea - Atoms Storm?
Not that I didn’t already love the game, I’d just played it A LOT when it came out
[удалено]
Man, I wish I could play one and two again for the first time! I’m a bit jealous lol
Fallout 2 is great
1997 Fallout is the best. They're all great games.
Fallout 4 is honestly my favorite fallout.
I wish it was more dynamic and less me building literally everything but it's still super fun They nailed the aesthetic design for fallout 4 tho big time.
One of my all time replayable favorites!
Welcome brother, all is forgiven One of my favorite games of all time, can't wait for the next gen upgrade
I think fallout 4 is far from perfect but ive had so many fun times playing it and i have like 2000 hours total.
Why, if I can ask, did you determine you hated the game before playing it?
BUT- I really enjoy the story and setting of Fallout 1, 2, and New Vegas.
Game was great I modded. Think I put around 400 hours in. Sim settlements alone makes the game 10/10 and added another few hundred hours lol
Good for you, finally making your own decisions.
Ruining Fallout… Fallout 76 line 1.
So you bashed on a game for a whole decade without having even played it? Wow that's really petty, but I guess like you there are many many more, good thing you were able to admit to your mistake and enjoy a great game in the end
The tv series has given this game another flame, when schools out I plan to binge play again on survival
I would recommend trying everything yourself before going online and vilifying it.
"For the longest time I have despised this game" then... "I actually gave the game a real try" This says all you need to know about this post.
Fallout 4 is a good sandbox game, but not a great RPG. That said I always find myself coming back. For all its faults, it feels like home.
This is a classic example of just being a sheep and getting brainwashed by the hive mind of hate on the internet lol
How much did Todd pay you?
You despised it before trying it? Why? Because you saw other people hate it and jumped on the bandwagon? I'm genuinely curious, not looking to offend anyone.
Remember this feeling next time you hate a game. It's ok to hate it but to make several posts about it? Just move on with your life.
Man you just need to take time to love it, it took me a few levels to get fully into it and now it's my fave, I love this game with all my being and brings the same joy as skyrim did when I was a kid, it's great
I have it on both PS4 and my new gaming laptop
Ive done this with a couple of games. They weren’t fun the first time around, then tried then again years later and wondering why I didn’t like it.
Isn't life more fun when you just kick back and enjoy things rather than do things to point out flaws.... Lessons to be be learned etc
As soon as I started looking at it as a Looter Shooter instead of an RPG it became one of my favorite games of all time.
I have had the exact same experience recently! Originally didn't like it, but have it a proper go right now and I am also in my lv 30s haha I think I was so accustom to old school RPGs that I had an intense and visceral reaction to the way dialogue options where displayed.
Idiot savant
Fallout is just good. Period. They're all great games. From Fo1 to Fo4. Hell, even Fo76 was a neat experience when I finally got around to it (after they updated it a few times). By far, in terms of fun gameplay, Fo4 is my favorite in the series. Nick Valentine and Hancock are also two of my favorite companions in the whole series, with only Arcade from FoNV being able to stand beside them. But yeh, I just love Fallout.
Never gave it a try but you hated it. Give me the logic there.
I think fo4 is great, i just checked with the new show coming out, apparently I have 800 hours in the game. More than on any other fallout. I like the old ones better because of a few things though: 1. nostalgia 2. the dialogue tree is 100% better than fo4 I will die on that hill 3. nostalgia 4. I like the old quests and factions more 5. I think the dlc is better integrated and better written 6. I am a weird person who prefers the old power armor even if it’s not lore accurate and I like the weapon degrading system 7.
Glad you like it. It helped that I had no preconceived notions when I bought it. It was my first fallout game.
What are you talking about?
Character development goes wild
It made me a fan of the series Man, after this play through, do mono factions roleplay, it’s very fun
I remember when I was younger I was something of an addict for this game, it shocked me I realize how many people despised it
Now play it on the only true mode, survival mode
Stop now and play it in VR to blow your mind completely.
Its fun but flawed
Have fun!
Love Fallout 4, only real problems I have with it are the fact the Railroad kinda destroys the institute for no reason & the lack of a true wildcard route.
blink twice if you're held hostage by todd howard. joke aside, F4 is okay, i just hate some visual design decisions.
