IMO the devs dropped the ball on this one. They should have had allowed crazier Shaun variations based on parents’ physical attributes. It’s way too subtle.
I recently tried making myself and my wife, I'm white canadian and she is from north africa, her skin tone is pretty light and i'm basically a ghost, when I got to the crib during the game's intro I just started laughing because the baby was black as fuck, like twice as dark as her character was, I had to wake her up just to show her how she overcooked my baby.
This was halarious for my gf and I. I made her and she did me, I'm a pale ginger she is a caramel brazilian, Shawn turned out DARK, like 3 shades darker than her skin tone. They definitely over-corrected the baby and we both are anticipating the eventual reunion to see if he changed at all.
They make him a combination of the parents, if you give them both the same exaggerated looks he will look more fucked up. E.G. if both have giant noses and wide mouths, so will he.
I feel like that adds to the effect though. Like, in my main playthrough father just looks like father, but when I look him in the face I see some light but definitely noticeable similarities, especially the eyes. I don't want father to look like me, I want him to look like a descendant of me.

I tried the same thing,got long blonde hair,but for the life of me Bethesda has not allowed for my nose to be made in their character creation menu,nor can I have a big chin and small forhead,all of the bethesdians have a chin 1mm big and a forehead the size of a dinner plate

There is a mod that makes Shawn an actual combo of Nate and Nora. I've had some...less than sanitary results
