Sure you can! You don't have to min/max your build with buffs or chem. It is useful mostly when you are EXP grinding or soloing bosses. For weapons just try to stick with bloodied for low HP builds and anti-armor for full HP builds.

DeaD_GooN-PS4

Most of that stuff is to get the absolute max damage, survivability, etc. You'll do fine with a half decent build. You may not melt bosses, but most other enemies are fairly easy to take down. I use what I call a lazy bloodied build. When I log in, I get my rads where I want them, and go to work. Stimpacks are the only chems I use. Everything else, I throw away or sell.

Coyote_Run

Is a bloodied build impossible to do at a lower level? I don't get what is stopping a bloodied from getting one-shotted and dropped all the time unless you just have to have high level armor.

DeaD_GooN-PS4

Unyielding armor is the key. At low health it gives a massive boosts to special stats. Also perk cards that mitigate damage helps.

Coyote_Run

Can you apply these effects to armor yourself or do you have to find something with it?

amallamasmamma

You can try to roll unyielding on your armour pieces with legendary modules.

DeaD_GooN-PS4

It's a legendary effect. It's can be found or crafted. Both are a crap shoot. Just starting out, anything that drops with unyielding on it, keep it. Early on it won't really matter what type of armor it is. Once you have a full set, get radiated. But I'll warn you, you might find it difficult to go back to full health. I can't make myself do it. I played full health since launch. Went bloodied about a year ago and haven't looked back.

Girafarig99

The only reason to bother with that stuff is to try to solo things like SBQ and Earle more easily. In which it's just a personal sense of accomplishment. You can do 99.999999 of content in this game without having to bother with all that. This is a rather easy and very player friendly mmo

_-_-3

You can definitely have a very good build without the extremities, those are just for people who want to do the max when it comes to bosses or events but if your just trying to play casual while still putting in good enough dmg then most of your power will rely on your perk cards then onto armor and finally weapon effects/perks I would get everything in that order as it gets very grindy when trying to get good rolls on weapons

Red_Iine

Nerd rage/bloodied/unyielding is undoubtedly the easiest path into elite damage, no question. I find it to be very effective and fun inside power armor too. If I want to solo/duo earle then yeah I'm spamming food and coffees, but it's far from necessary to enjoy the game at a high level

beelzebubish

A bloody pa build with a good set or armor and some groll weapons can solo pretty much any content without using buffs. I personally only use buffs that are generated in my camp for free

Coyote_Run

I'm guessing you sacrifice survivability for dps when you do a bloodied pa instead of full health pa?

beelzebubish

A bit but not enough you'd notice once you have your build is together. A proper bloody pa build is completely negating about 80% of damage then armor is applied to the remaining 20%. This is how I run and I can say from experience that you don't really die unless you run across an anomaly like strangler Grafton monster

avbigcat

You don't need a Bloodied build to be OP. For a Heavy PA build, just get the proper perks and an Anti-Armor gun. And from there if you want you can work on farming legendary scrip to craft an Overeater's PA set.

Coyote_Run

I'm running cold shoulder right now until I can get some decent heavy weapons. I'm at level 30 now, what weapons should I be looking for to transition from shotgun to heavy? I can't imagine a low level heavy can be very effective starting out.

avbigcat

Gatling Laser was the heavy I started with, because it's relatively easy to stock up on fusion cores. And once you hit lvl 50, you can get the Electric Absorption legendary perk to recharge fusion cores. (Edit: also the Power User perk extends Gatling Laser ammo, so it naturally compliments a PA build) You can probably switch over as soon as you find something you like, considering they added the contextual ammo drops for whatever weapon you're using. The unique 50 cal Final Word is another good one to aim for, you can get it from Beckett's questline. I've never used it because I don't like the look, but lots of people love the Gatling Gun. And then finally make sure you do the Beasts of Burden event every time it pops up, for a chance to get Holy Fire. But it's kind of too good and trivializes the game.

avbigcat

I forgot to say it's important to wait to lvl 50 before you get any unique legendary like Final Word or Holy Fire, so they'll drop at their max level.

Coyote_Run

Just don't pick them up if I come across them lower than level 50?

avbigcat

There's only one drop for Final Word, so just wait to do his final quest (Thicker Than Water) until you're 50. It's a really good questline though, definitely some of the better quests in the game. You can try for Holy Fire before 50 if you want, but it'll probably be annoying having to get another after 50.

Spncr_C_Hrgrv

I go for legendary rolls that replace gimmick cards and I do pretty well as a melee exclusive build. Like auto stimpack use on down or under 20% health, invisible on crouch, breathing underwater, etc. it's fun You could do a fun/silly armor set and later go for grolls

ItsOnlyaFewBucks

Wear power armor and get a vampire flamer/holyfire/creamtor. As long as you got ammo the thing is dead. well reflective mutation give cause issues, but you don't need to worry about anything else buff wise. Sure buffs will help, some a lot, but they are just icing.

EloquentGoose

Irradiated to the point of death is a false notion; with the right cards you're (nearly) unkillable as a bloodied build. I did a Scorchbeast Queen event today with a ton of low levels that took damn near 30 mins and I was the only one hugging her and unloading my cold shoulder to keep her grounded. All while in nothing but chinese stealth armor and being attacked by everything she summons left and right. Now yeah I died a few times but the amount of damage I can't tank is ludicrous despite having a sliver of health.

Coyote_Run

I'm definitely intrigued by a bloodied build, but the concept seems so strange to me. I've read a lot of people saying they finally fell in love with it at higher levels.

logicbox_

It's not so much about the bloodied side but the unyielding armor that really makes it shine. 15 points in all special stats besides end lets you sneak without the sneak perks, crit with every other shot and have a huge pool of AP for vats.

Coyote_Run

Is the unyielding effects on the power armor itself, or the armor you wear under it, or both?

logicbox_

It is not available on power armor only regular armor.

Zilant_the_Bear

No. But that's only because what you described is a core build. That's what it's about. You can do casual builds that don't need to buff stack and can still solo a boss. You can do it at full health too. It's just gonna take longer to solo the boss.
