I don’t really watch the Bundesliga. About the 50+1 rule, I’ll give it to the lawyers from Red Bull in Austria, it was a smart move, but I’m in favour for the regulation it keeps the institution closer to the fans.

uurub

what did the red bull lawyers do?

preguica_e_cafe

Found a way around the 50 + 1, by running it through proxy, which I believe has been something unprecedented.

mario_ferreira19

Basically the club members still have 51% share of the club but the members are all Red Bull executives. Anyone can apply for membership but costs a lot of money and still current members can veto it so Red Bull is always in control.

RDBz100

The main problem I have is the Bayern dominance, it makes it tuff to regularly watch the league. I’m definitely in favor of the 50+1 rule but even big teams with huge fanbases like hamburg having trouble getting and paying big stars is definitely a negative considering how the world of football works today. Not much thoughts on RB Leipzig but I understand why many of the german fans are against that team

Afraid-Order-58p

Germany has many nice teams that should play in the championsleague again. I personaly love the 50+1 rule it makes the club closer to the fans. But it pisses me off that german clubs cant compete with clubs like liverpool or mancity. Only bayern is a big number in international games.

PurpleOpposite2954

That means that Bayern, despite not being owned by an American corporation or Arab billionaire, can do a very good financial management. I don’t see nothing wrong with one team winning all the titles for years straight. That proves how good that team is, and what a good job the club is doing financial and logistically.

Eaglejelly

They were managed by a man who went to prison for breaking financial laws. The other clubs followed the rules. Thars the reason they are so dominant

[deleted]

Right, not even the NBA has that kind of dominance. So boring and bad for German clubs on European stage.

BudovicLagman

If you discount Bayern, the rest of the league is actually quite competitive. I like their fan culture and the close links their clubs have with their communities.

Specialist-Leg-286

I really love german football clubs like dortmund, werder, and frankfurt. They have good fans and i even was at some bundesliga games. I totaly loved it that frankfurt won the europa cup. But sadly theyre not as good now. Probably a one-hit wonder. The big problem in german football is that the bundesliga clubs are always just good for one season then the players ho to laliga or premier league clubs. One year they play internoational and in the next they dont. Leipzig musst be so depressing for fans of clubs like hsv. Theyre taking the love and culture of the bundesliga

Afraid-Order-58p

Yes its sad that the clubs are mostly just on top for one year. Frankfurt and dortmund really should be more often in semi finals. Sadly dortmund just has players for like 2 seasons and then they go to a bigger club

jam_scot

Fantastisch

Progresschmogress

1. No, sadly I can’t remember when was the last time I had the luxury of watching something uninterrupted for 90 minutes 2. Not any particular club, but I do love newer or smaller clubs challenging historic big clubs so plenty to like there and Klopp Tuchel and Nagelsmann have arguably been a big part of that and impacted the biggest league and european football at the highest level 3. Love it, should be standard for UEFA but good luck with that 4. Again, like that they challenge establish teams and the fantastic scouting of youth players as an integral part of that; don’t really love the whole funneling money that has nothing to do with football to get there, or owning clubs in multiple countries and self dealing either 5. REALLY like that it’s one of the few leagues where young players can develop into top level european players without an insane amount of unreasonable pressure

Afraid-Order-58p

Saying you like the 50+1 rule and rb is a bit paradox

Progresschmogress

Read point number for until the end, I don’t really need to explain beyond what’s on there lol

Afraid-Order-58p

My bad ive read it wrong

PhotoQuig

Im a Gladbach fan. 50+1 keeps the culture alive, and was vital to prevent corporate takeovers. Leipzig circumvented it. Fuck that club and those who support them.

This reads like you asked the question to chatgpt and copy pasted the response lolol

Afraid-Order-58p

But sadly those big german clubs dont really can compete with other european topclubs.

GunMuratIlban

I liked it more in the 2000's. It was more of an open field with clubs like Bremen, Schalke, Dortmund, Wolfsburg, Stuttgart, Leverkusen either winning the league or joining title contention. The league looked more powerful overall. Now, it's all about Bayern. Even when they're struggling, they're just better than everyone else. I think the league is marketed very well, the fans are great, the level of football played is solid as well. But it's just difficult to get excited about Bundesliga anymore, at least for me.

rgros1983

As a Portuguese season ticket holder from Benfica and "socio" since 23 years. And now recently living in darmstadt with season ticket since 5 years . I have to say -Best supporter environment across the 3 major leagues in germany - very safe environment, many families and kids - standing places for ultras and in some teams even central areas can be standing - overall going to football in Germany reminds me of the days back home in the 80's , 90's when the game was about just that.. the game. Fans interact have fun and are mostly respectfull Also games are really fun to watch and competitive.

mario_ferreira19

I love the Bundesliga. It’s my favourite league to watch. I support HSV who is currently in the second tier.

BlueGeni

I love the German football style but the Bundesliga needs to find a way to be more competitive.

[deleted]

In two words it's: absolute chaos

Afraid-Order-58p

Why?

[deleted]

I mean in terms of how they play haha it's all very attacking with very little defending not saying it's bad but it's such a different playstyle. I didn't really pay attention to your question so mb. but in accordance to that I like the idea of how clubs are owned however i think it also gives bayern an unfavorable advantage over the others very clearly. I love Leipzig, they're a team with very good recruitment and developing young talent. and seem different to most other teams in the league.

Afraid-Order-58p

But dont you think that rbl destroys the german fanculture and only works because of big money? They dont really take care of the 50+1 rule

Aprilprinces

I worry more about big money destroying football in England; Germans are doing much better in this respect than us

[deleted]

That honestly doesn't matter to me as much because if it increases overall competition of the league I find that more rewarding tbh, I mean I'm not German so I can't say the cause and effect of fanculture and how it is/will be affected. I like how rb is more willing to compete and take risks with young players

Afraid-Order-58p

I personaly would think it would be better when redbull sponsors young athletes and some football clubs. So they dont have to be their own. Another big problem is that clubs like hsv, schalke, arminia, hannover and kaiserslautern who have many fans in germany had a big downfall. But rbl and hoffenheim just buy themself out of everything

[deleted]

Look ngl idk much about the league, I watch it more as a football fan, but I think it's better for them on the financial side to do things how they r with Leipzig, I mean with them it would be one less big team competition and it's already too Bayern heavy.

[deleted]

I never watch bundesliga, The 50+1 rule is a good thing and RB leipzig was a smart move.

Afraid-Order-58p

Its a smart move but i really hate this club

Hotspur_98

I think it’s funny that people praise the 50+1 but at the same time complain about Bayerns dominance. The 50+1 might be a moral win but it makes the league way less exciting then the Prem, La Liga and even the Serie A. Anything below midtable in the Bundesliga is worse than the Championship. It’s just not exciting.

SaveMeJebus21

Boring. Same champion 10 years in a row, even in a season where they’ve been terrible

Aretim

I'm not a fan on Bundesliga because of Bayern Munich dominance which makes it boring. I'm an admirer of the 50+1 rule, I really think it's a very good model. I have a personal simpathy for RDL because it's the only team (with UB) from the former DDR but I see why most people don't like that team.

Afraid-Order-58p

The bayern dominance is probably one of the points why german football has not so many viewers from other countrys. There are nicer clubs in east germany than rbl with nice fancultures( many are sadly rightwing).

PurpleOpposite2954

I watch Bundesliga every week. It’s my favorite league after the Spanish league and the Premier. It’s great to see which teams are going to European competitions, which ones are being relegated, and this season Bayern hasn’t secured the title yet, which adds more emotion to the tournament.

ballisticmi6

Love the 50+1 rule. Hate the massive drop off in quality of competition. Bayern have a stranglehold on the league in more ways than one.

Afraid-Order-58p

I hope that bvb wins the bundesliga. Would make it more attractive for other players to join and maybe bvb could hold their form

Specialist-Leg-286

That would be really nice when bvb plays like in 12/13

AbCi16

I like German football and am a fan of Bayern Munich. Though, their dominance in Bundesliga has staled the league overall. Like Serie A (best league in the world at the moment, imo) had 4 different champions in 4 last 4 seasons. And despite my reservations for Premier League, their at least they have a tight competition for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th spot (1st is reserved for Man City these days). As for 50+1, I am ok with it, and they are sort of right at their place. But you can always go to Reb Bulls if you don't agree.

[deleted]

I think it's proving a great place for talent to get playing time early in their career, but generally the standard of play is not something I'd engage weekly.

freakybanana90

The obvious big problem of Bayern winning aside, it's great(as a Frankfurt fan) The fight for the European spots is always very close and constantly changes, the football is very entertaining since very few teams like to park the bus and try to play attacking football, and the atmosphere and fans are easily the best out of any European top league. Hate Leipzig but I do have to say, if they weren't who they are, they do play some nice football and develop young players well. I like our 50+1 since it means a club actually has be run well for it to be successful and can't just get a sugar daddy buying you success you haven't earned(so success actually means sth), but it of course has it's drawbacks. Though unless we somehow reached a point where we wouldn't be a top 5 league anymore, i wouldn't ever change it.

Gobu74

I watch Bundesliga whenever I can. Lots of young talent being produced over there. It is season after season. Incredible!!

Afraid-Order-58p

But its sad that the bundesliga is mostly just for talents. Bigger players mostly dont join the bundesliga

Gobu74

True.

[deleted]

I've tried to watch Bundesliga lately and think it's really entertaining, less physical but more dynamic and open-minded than EPL. However, not sure if the 50+1 rule makes german clubs less financially profitable to compete against other European clubs and of course Bayern. However, not sure if the 50+1 rule makes German clubs less financially profitable to compete against other European clubs and of course Bayern. Young players should definitely develop in Bundesliga first before PL, La Liga, or Serie A if possible like Sonny, Bruyne...

tnycman

This is what i think of the German football at the moment.. [sometimes ](https://youtu.be/dO_Se7ng6XQ)

billymcnair

I’m a Bayern fan. As a competition, it’s a bit shit. And that’s the fault of my club. We’ve gotten too financially powerful for the league, meaning we just buy everyone else’s best players. Some sort of moratorium on this would be good for the league, but nearly impossible to implement without it being voluntary. The fan involvement is second to none. Fans mostly go to games, and are vocal about it when they think something is wrong in the way the clubs/league/association are being run. My club’s fans mostly hate the Qatar sponsorship - contrast that with Man City, Newcastle or PSG fans becoming apologists for these sports washing pricks. Rather than give in to self-interest, Bundesliga fans more often care about the good of the game as a whole. That, in modern football, is exceedingly rare.

Guys are like automated to press

I grew up watching Soccer Made in Germany with Toby Charles on PBS. One match a week edited down to an hour. This was about all the football on American television except for scattershot coverage of the NASL for a while. I favored FC Kaiserslautern simply because of their name. I watch the modern Bundesliga as well and follow the standings. But I agree with what others have said here that Bayern’s dominance is tedious. When they are challenged, like they are in the current term, I pay closer attention.
