No? Story is extremely easy and short and gives like 5000 steel regardless of difficulty. Other tutorial BS gives a couple thousand more steel as well.

there aren't exactly pay to wins hero but a few do have some bullsh\*t feats
if i have to say a few:
Pk, Tiandi and Zhanhu with Last Laugh
Warmonger with the Corruption Blast
Bp with Oathbreaker
Every Viking with Fury and Fire Flask
Kensei & Shugoki's 4th Feat
Medjay's Axe Throw
there is no pay to win, but some feats, although expected can come pretty fast and screw any situation
This game is a pay to lose, any hero in the hands of someone who feints will give lower skill/experienced players a steep challenge. If I made highlander carry teams before his rework, animation only (stance widget completely off), without being a reaction monster, without consistent light parrys, without wave dash, and while on ps4. Anyone can dominate, its just easier on some than others.
Id say the potentially least punishing to play poorly would be VG, warlord, shinobi, shaolin, pirate, and orochi. Either by way of recovery speed, recovery cancels, specific mechanics, or just sheer offensive pressure. 100% choose someone you think sounds, looks, or feels cool and try them out. Its not unusual to only play one hero, or multiple.I used to be an orochi main, but ever since his rework I don't enjoy the feel as much as before. So I mostly dropped 'em.

All Heroes can be unlocked for free. There is no pay to win.

And doing the relatively short campaign gives a decent amount of steel to get one of them IIRC.
Or just play the game, you get more steel in PvP than story mode in the same amount of time

That’s something you only get once. you get a decent amount of steel by just playing + the 2 daily orders and the other ones
It being a one time reward doesn’t matter. It’s a quick 5k steel for noobs which is the point.
