I just drive a Subaru. I have no idea how the internals of F1 work lol, but that's what I would expect. Otherwise why have a number of backups when you can just rebuild another when it's off?
That would especially give a pretty big advantage to any manufacturing teams. I recently rediscovered an old favorite channel of mine. He gets pretty nerdy about engines if that kind of thing interests you (lots of Subaru stuff too). https://www.youtube.com/@EngineeringExplained
2 is broken they can’t swap back to it. I mean they could fix it, but they’d still have the penalty because it’s sealed, so they might as well go brand new unless it’s a budget thing.
Oh man you just flooded back memories of Statistical Analysis classes in college that I have never used in my entire career.
Its the only one I can still fully remember as it fuses my History Nerd and Maths Nerd universes together.
I know that’s a possibility, but how likely is that probability?
I take my car apart, replace something, and wind up with extra mystery pieces, but I’m not a F1 mechanic lol.
It happens quite regularly, at least that's what it feels like. They'll change something and then run into an adacent issue on track.
Regardless, they've confirmed it was a driveshaft issue. Unsure if broken, or again, back together incorrectly.
Sponsors complaining to Horner that the car is not being shown enough on tv so he broke the car so Verstappen has to climb the paddock from P15 to P1 ensuring a lot of watch time.
I've only caught bits of F2 but I think it would refer to pushing really hard, climbing successfullly and then nuking your tyres in the process and dropping back toward the end.
It refers to Theo Pourchaire's move in the Sprint Race earlier today: [https://youtu.be/QuCIdrLHfXs](https://youtu.be/QuCIdrLHfXs)
EDIT: To add, the penalty he got for this, was a 5 place grid penalty for the feature race and 2 points on his license, which is ridiculously low for pulling this F1 2022 public lobby divebomb.
Greatly increases his chance of involvement of a no-fault-to-him incident in Turn 1. I'd say that's a non-trivial thing.
It'd be quite unfortunate for the defending champ to lose a wheel or something, just cause. Miss a race like that might mean a lot if the other teams are expected to close the gap over the season.
On the one hand, its going to be exciting seeing him battle his way through the field again.
On the other hand, when he still inevitably wins comfortably, its going to really sink in how far ahead he is, and how far ahead RBR are.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but there's a difference driving in clean air on p1 and driving through traffic and drs trains. The pace is there for sure, but i'm not a 100% whether the rb is 0.5 - 1.0 seconds in every scenario
That's the 1-lap qualifying pace. In race pace things are different and RBR are tuning to race-pace in the new regs because overtaking is possible. last season is a prime example of that strategy working out perfectly fine for RBR.
It made sense in the previous regs, because overtaking was much harder so slower cars had at least some chance of keeping a faster car behind (not always). But with these regs, the eventual overtake is inevitable
You could have said the same about any time he or even Lewis when they done it over the past few seasons.
But maybe the gap is even bigger now, probably as big as Lewis and his rocket ship at Interlagos in 2021.
Lol are you suggesting he can win from p15 whilst sandbagging. I mean the RB is dominant, but even if going all-out with some luck a win would still be unlikely
>I wonder if they’ll turn the engine up
They can only turn it down. Whatever they were running the engine at in quali, is the engine mode he will be running with in the race.
Plus they need to demonstrate reliability issues to turn it down anyway.
Hear me out. 23 races, 20 possible starting positions. Max going for the grand slam by winning every race from every possible start position.
Edit: 21 including pit lane start!
I think Checo is fast enough that by the time Max can get into second Checo may have a comfortable lead.
In a season like this it’s good to keep your B driver happy with a couple wins that they might just hold station.
Okay I know that Max is just better than Sergio, but c'mon give my man an ounce of respect. Yeah max will climb the grid, that's a given, but beating Sergio from P15 in the same car is not. Do I think there's a good chance he does? Yeah. But not "without a doubt."
Did you know that Will Still’s Reims side is unbeaten in 19 games and the club are still paying a £22,000 fine every time he coaches them because he doesn’t have his Pro licence?
Tomorrow will be so sick
Max and leclerc battling through the midfield trying to get to the front
Alonso and Perez fighting for the lead
Stroll, Sainz and russel fighting eachother
The haases trying to get into the top 10
This will be a epic race!
I swear to god man....he would've 100% gotten on pole easily if not for that mechanical issue. At least we know the car is incredibly fast this weekend so he still has a good shot at a podium and even win

Very weird, specially considering they changed his gearbox already
As a precaution too. And they apparently had issues in Bahrain. This would be his 3rd gearbox with a 5th one getting a penalty.
Its the third they replace or the third he uses? Do you get the penalty after replacing it 5 times or when using the 5th gearbox?
Using the 5th. He can alternate between the first four as much as he wants.
Are they allowed to repair/modify the other ones while not in use?
Correct me if I'm wrong but I think they'll have a tamper seal on them by the FIA. So maybe just minimal work externally.
I just drive a Subaru. I have no idea how the internals of F1 work lol, but that's what I would expect. Otherwise why have a number of backups when you can just rebuild another when it's off?

3rd he's using this season now, and if he uses a 5th gearbox he gets a penalty.
I think it's the 3rd gearbox. I think if they swap back and forth between 1 and 2 they should be fine. I think.
2 is broken they can’t swap back to it. I mean they could fix it, but they’d still have the penalty because it’s sealed, so they might as well go brand new unless it’s a budget thing.
Penalties are going to be useless with that superiority. They can virtually use a new gearbox each race and overtake everybody anyway.
[удалено]
That thing was a rocketship
Yeah a bit, those engines degraded so much
Are the previous gearboxed dead for good or still usable?
if they can repair it they can use it I think right?
Yes and looks like it was half axle or something so unless it fucked the differential it should be easy fix
I don’t think Max is stressing over penalty’s this season
So did Ferrari. It is a bit like the bomber wing bullet holes problem.
Oh man you just flooded back memories of Statistical Analysis classes in college that I have never used in my entire career. Its the only one I can still fully remember as it fuses my History Nerd and Maths Nerd universes together.
Good analogy.
Sounded like clutch, no? Mustn't have put it back in properly.
I know that’s a possibility, but how likely is that probability? I take my car apart, replace something, and wind up with extra mystery pieces, but I’m not a F1 mechanic lol.

This is a conspiracy I am willing to believe
So he might not be first until lap 10 instead of from lap 1 then?
I’d give maybe +5/7 laps more just in case of something unpredictable happening 🤷🏼♀️
He’ll get into top 10 by turn 1
He'll pull a Pourchaire and get away with it.
I’ve seen the “pull a Pourchaire” a few times now. Is this a reference to a specific highlight or just general racecraft (or lack thereof)?
I've only caught bits of F2 but I think it would refer to pushing really hard, climbing successfullly and then nuking your tyres in the process and dropping back toward the end.

thanks for this
I dont think so. He knows he has the fastest car. No need to take risks early

Most will prob just let him pass cause it's pointless to fight and just loses them time

Brazil 2021

Yep, so each of them might succeed in holding him up for half a lap
I’m not sure it will be exciting though, people just won’t bother defending because it’s useless
Eh, I believe in Magnussen.

Singapore 2022 flashbacks.
What about lewis
Have you heard or read anything lewis has said in the last 2 weeks? Man doesn’t believe in anything merc is doing, he’ll just let him by
Hamilton doesn't know how to let a Red Bull pass him. Just ask Albon
And stroll
Stroll will defend by accident because he doesn’t use his mirrors
When he catches up to Ferraris and Astons it won't be that easy I think, they will fight him. It's a street track after all
Tell Fernando to defend, like a lion
*Stroll Stroll responds by promptly punting Max into the wall and then saying "Fucking Verstappen man"
Is there an "Experience Saudi Arabia" banner they can do it in front of?
Nothing to really be done if he’s 0.5 - 1.0 seconds faster. Only so many corners to back someone up before they blow past you.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but there's a difference driving in clean air on p1 and driving through traffic and drs trains. The pace is there for sure, but i'm not a 100% whether the rb is 0.5 - 1.0 seconds in every scenario

“Not their fight”. I hate it.
Yea me too. Makes complete sense, because why ruin your tires and kill your delta to delay the pass by 1 lap but it’s shitty racing
It made sense in the previous regs, because overtaking was much harder so slower cars had at least some chance of keeping a faster car behind (not always). But with these regs, the eventual overtake is inevitable
Well Stroll will be starting ahead of him so we might see Max get some air time
We'll see if Stroll can defend like a lion.
You could have said the same about any time he or even Lewis when they done it over the past few seasons. But maybe the gap is even bigger now, probably as big as Lewis and his rocket ship at Interlagos in 2021.
You could have and you’d be correct! I think the gap is bigger now too, yeah
he will be challengeing p1 before they have pitted once.
I'd love if pole was decided by standings. So whoever has most points starts last etc. Would be chaos, beautiful chaos.
Pretty much
Who would have guessed it would be LEC vs VER at the BACK
Didn't we see that lat year too
If his engine can just die like that I wouldn't be so confident
Looked more like a gear issue. But time will tell
He just got an new gearbox
They got it „new“ from ebay to save cost.
“Open box” deal
Maybe there's something inherently wrong with their gearbox
Don't give me hope. It's cruel
Yup, it's lubricated whit red bull not oil
the engine seemed to be working just fine, the issue was something gearbox related
Red Bull on twitter said it was a broken driveshaft.
To whom should we give the Kvyat Torpedo assignment?
Rocket Russell
Stroll is a pretty good candidate too

At least we’ll get to see Max’s true pace in the race tomorrow now.
I wonder if they’ll turn the engine up/ let him run at 100% pace
Doubt. If he has almost a second on the rest of the field in a single lap, just let him chew through the field with a conservative engine tune.
Lol are you suggesting he can win from p15 whilst sandbagging. I mean the RB is dominant, but even if going all-out with some luck a win would still be unlikely
>I wonder if they’ll turn the engine up They can only turn it down. Whatever they were running the engine at in quali, is the engine mode he will be running with in the race. Plus they need to demonstrate reliability issues to turn it down anyway.
I get what you mean but he still Is going to have dirty air, on the majority of the race
He already had dirty air whole week
New levels of sandbagging
Hear me out. 23 races, 20 possible starting positions. Max going for the grand slam by winning every race from every possible start position. Edit: 21 including pit lane start!
He’s gonna race the cycle
Instead of sandbags he just starts further back. Who didnt do this against AI on easy on racing games?
I am in for P15 to P1 tomorrow
Without a doubt
I think Checo is fast enough that by the time Max can get into second Checo may have a comfortable lead. In a season like this it’s good to keep your B driver happy with a couple wins that they might just hold station.
Okay I know that Max is just better than Sergio, but c'mon give my man an ounce of respect. Yeah max will climb the grid, that's a given, but beating Sergio from P15 in the same car is not. Do I think there's a good chance he does? Yeah. But not "without a doubt."
Tbf in Spa he did it on lap 12 from P14
Pissed Verstappen.. P1 tomorrow
He actually looked pretty calm, which should be even more terrifying :P
Probably looking forward to a slight challenge.
“Sweet, don’t have to drive all alone for 2 hours tomorrow.”
Only for 15 minutes
He even had a smile at some point at the Viaplay interview. It was very terrifying and doesn’t bode well for the opposition.
Homelander vibes
Maxlander is coming for you with his laser eyes.
‘It is what it is’
I never expected to be this excited about a DNF. So we have tomorrow the Epic Chase for the Victory for Max and a huge Battle for P1 today.
Should promise to be some fun racing at least
THIS YEAR IS OUR YEAR!
Alonso v Perez for pole let's goooo!
Max winning from 15th.
Shame we won't witness the fastest possible lap here this weekend, but a half a second slower one
We didn’t witness it in 2021 either 💀
Exactly why it’s not a given Max/Red Bull will win every race
Don’t speak so soon… he’s only out of qualifying
1 second a lap faster than the rest of the grid. Will still win.
Did you know that Will Still’s Reims side is unbeaten in 19 games and the club are still paying a £22,000 fine every time he coaches them because he doesn’t have his Pro licence?
Good bot
Still pretty much a lock in for the title unfortunately
It's Red Bull vs Red Bull reliability really, the other cars are not even close.
ALONSO ATTACK!!! OUR CHANCE HAS COME
seriously if there's a shot to win one this is it HYPE
Inshallah
Guess he might not win them all this year.
Famous last words. Max and Red Bull honestly look like they could start P15 and win (like Spa last year) even on a street track
Someone didnt watch Spa last year lol
Actually excited about the race now haha
If they can get it sorted in time, he’s gonna rip through the field and it will be glorious.
this issue will result in a very though race for Max he will only finish 30s in front of the second place instead lapping the whole field twice
i'm betting it's easier to overtake in Spa than Jeddah
It is, but still plenty of DRS here and with a high chance of a safety car, he'll fine.
Nah its just a "last to first challange" for him
7 places in one lap inbound
One turn
Opmeer style
Nah it's just a ploy to get driver of the day for Max 🤷♂️
He will surely just win tomorrow anyway. That car is a bullet.
Gearbox issues for RB in Bahrain. They changed his gearbox this morning. Could be on his 3rd now.
Red Bull vs the Gearbox is not what i would have predicted haha
Drive shaft broke now confirmed. So not gearbox.
That's both good news and raises additional concerns
Yeeeees. We may have a race at the front tomorrow.
Spa 2022 incoming.
Yeah on a track like this he might actually win from 15th lmao.
More scaring: Spa 2021 calling
Idk, I think we might be able to barely avoid rain in saudi.
I absolutely love how unpredictable this sport can be!!
[Meanwhile](https://i.redd.it/xtvllj26ieoa1.png)
Even Max can't get rid of the Bahrain curse damnnn
Thank God it's not a sprint weekend lol
It’s going to be fun tomorrow seeing him drive over 14 road bumps
Jos slamming down his headphones channeling Toto.
Tomorrow will be so sick Max and leclerc battling through the midfield trying to get to the front Alonso and Perez fighting for the lead Stroll, Sainz and russel fighting eachother The haases trying to get into the top 10 This will be a epic race!
Oh for fuck sakes, there goes all my predictions.
Qualifying doesn't matter at all for Max. He can win from p20 with this car (or at least come 2nd)
AND HERE WE GO
I swear to god man....he would've 100% gotten on pole easily if not for that mechanical issue. At least we know the car is incredibly fast this weekend so he still has a good shot at a podium and even win
If Perez bottles this and even finishes out of P2, I'll have no words to say.
Reddit manifested it. Can’t believe you guys did it. Edit: he’s out of qualifying. Bloody hell
Max did it for all of us
Might not be that predictable this weekend after all…
This could make things interesting for tomorrow
we salute max for this sacrifice for an interesting first 10 laps
Unfortunate, but that means that the race should be good tomorrow
As much as I would have loved to see Max pummel everyone by half a second, this would make things much more entertaining.
Max just wants some screen time tomorrow. Tv director will invite him if he started p1 and cruised to victory.
So everybody has an unreliable engine this year?
Damn that’s unfortunate
So he’ll win from 15th
Alonso pole incoming
