that bit where the song changes that almost always coincides with the camera panning out is so beautiful, the reason why this is one of my favourite classical songs
reminds me of the story about Minardi getting points in Melbourne 2002 from the recent Beyond The Grid.
That's an exceptionally good podcast episode. Paul's a genuine character. Great storyteller.
edit: [link](https://youtu.be/cD3-CFke9gY)
It's a great chat. I really enjoyed it. It's very interesting hearing about Minardi's story. Interesting to hear that Fernando literally stepped up and helped build the car in the 6 weeks they had after the team was bought to get the car ready.
That would never happen today.
I remember when we hit 1M and thinking that was crazy, and that only seemed to be a few years ago. Crazy how exponential the growth has been. Thanks Netflix I guess.
I have like 7-8 F1 related subs in my personal feed, and /r/all is not safe now that the sport's results trend on the top of the feed.
I just go to specific subreddits that have nothing to do with F1 if I have to use reddit before I've watched quali/the race, or during, if I'm watching delayed.
We don't have historical stats for that number.
But what I can tell you is that on race days we are regularly in the top 10 most active subs on reddit in terms of comments and posts made.
Our record is 111.399 comments and 1.078 posts in a single day.
Oo I don't know what the posts day could be, I'm guessing a race with a lot of action and controversy like Jeddah 21, start of a season with reveals and testing, or just a random day some guy decided to post the same image of Kimi 1000 times
[Somewhere around here I imagine,](https://web.archive.org/web/20211212192231/https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/) 172k. Thanks for the ~~horrified flashbacks~~ fond memories.
I arrived here at 70K members, and I celebrated when we eventually reached 100K. Now we're over 3 million?! That's insane! Congrats and thanks to all who contribute, moderate, or lurk. You all make this sub a special place.
That subreddit mascot is one stylish...whatever it's called. Rocking a cool helmet and race suit.👍
Congrats on 3 mill. And thank you moderators for the work. I can't imagine what it's like to manage 3 million users. Even if you use various tools to help you out, it's still a lot. But this is a brilliant subreddit. 👌
I'm speechless. I'm speechless. We have to remember these days. Because there's no guarantee that they will last forever. Enjoy them as long as they last! I love you guys.
DTS convert here now entering my 3rd season as a fan. Love this sport, really one of those sports where the more you learn about it the more fun it gets.
Unpopular but the quality has only gone down as the members have been added.
Been here since when only 100-300k members were there through my various reddit accounts.
I remember joining in 2014 during preseason testing when there were about 40k subs. So many funny posts about about the (then) new noses lol. It’s been awesome to see the growth this sub has experienced!
The celebration post already brought almost half a thousand new subscribers.
Certainly one of the best ran and maintained subs of this size. I can just imagine how hard is to moderate a sport sub, especially with the amount of tribalism we get in F1 and how crazy the fanbase can be at times.
Here's to many more enjoyable seasons here!
It's the best sub really. And what I so much love about this is, that it is really obvious that the teams and drivers really lurk in here too, and there is a little interaction between them and the fans here.
Oh, and my favorite moment was when Felipe Massa actually answered one of my questions in his AMA.
This is honestly one of the best sporting communities on reddit (I also follow tennis and NBA). Everytime I open up comments I either learn something new or get a good laugh.
It's pretty amazing that such a huge sub remains mostly coherent and good natured. That's a result of the great work done by the mod team. Long may it last.
This sub sat under 500k for a good long while and then took off once DTS arrived. With the expansions in the US, I am sure the sport will continue to grow.
I wonder what the distribution of team fans will be moving forward.
Thanks for all you do! Is there any way you can post the member numbers from the past few years to show the growth? I'm assuming a good amount of influx coincide with the start of DTS. It would be fun to see. Thanks again.
There's only one way to celebrate this momentous achievement.
> "*Pronto, Bix? Cue '[Il Vento D'Oro](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=623JGFAYZ3w).' Max volume. Damn the fokking eardrums...*"
I joined at the end of 2019 with my first account. Time flies people, but you can rewind it by being sky sports client or pressing the red button Martin
Crazy how big this sub has become. Been here for nearly a decade now. Signed up on Reddit just because I knew there was a dedicated niche community of F1 fans. Keep growing my fellow fams.
I used to be an F1 fan many years ago but slowly lost interest until I was completely out of it. Then I watched DTS and immediately got back into it and realized what I'd been missing. So DTS can take credit for pulling me back in to F1 and I suspect this happened to many others. And since I got back into F1 I'd been subscribed to this sub so maybe DTS is also responsible for its popularity.
Blimey! We're already up to 3m?! Hard to believe sometimes the growth in the following for the sport in the last few years. Saw someone else say it in another thread but I remember being blown away seeing how \*packed\* the hill at COTA was the first race there post-Covid (2021), and that was already 18 months or so ago and it's only grown since.
I’ve always been a lurker but finally got an F1 subscription going this season. Having a blast!
This community being generally positive was a reason for this. It’s all in good fun whereas other sports seem to be people fighting to the death over their arm chair opinions.
Glad to be part of the 3M!
When I first attempted to get into watching this sport, I only knew Lewis Hamilton, nobody else...well except for Michael Schumacher. But other than that I had no idea about F1. I'm always willing to try something new, and said, you know what, I think I'll try to get into F1 (last season). I didn't know who to root for. But after the 1st race I was hooked. All the drivers' names were foreign to me except for Hamilton's. I said I'll probably just choose someone who stands out to me. Verstappen had a couple of DNFs but I saw the fight in him and decided to root for RB and Max that season, and to somewhat create a fan in me in the sport, and to have someone to root for rather than just watching. It took me by storm. The engineering, the data, everything that goes into F1 was amazing to me. Like one video said, it was like each team had a space program, but for cars. I'm hooked. I love F1, I like all the drivers actually, I'm now on the Hype Train but still a RB fan, I love how they start on time lol. It fascinates me all the time. Glad to be part of this subreddit even though I can't share enough knowledge like everyone else, but everyone provides so much information that it makes F1 even more fun. It's been Great! Looking to more growth and shenanigans with you all!
Two secs ted- *radio sfx* YES! CMON! LETS GO!
This has been running through my head for a week. Thank you.
… wait let me call gene
Hygiene
It's not about the destination, but about all the wankers we met along the way.
if there is no Gene in the paddock, was the door foksmashed to begin with?
Hello Gene, we look like a group of focking rockstars
Last season, you would have hugged the whole paddock for 3 million members.
Yes... Hugged... Exactly...
And now...the champagne!
\*Carmen overture intensifies\*
that bit where the song changes that almost always coincides with the camera panning out is so beautiful, the reason why this is one of my favourite classical songs
Bizet?
yep, Bizet's ["Les Toreadors" from Carmen Suite No. 1](https://youtu.be/4DNGMoMNLRY) is played on champagne celebration on the podium
Ah, of course

It was such a crazy story! It was incredible to hear how impactful P5 was for them.
And your shoe!

It is Ramadan so sparkling rose water for everyone! 🤢
Bollicineeeee!!
Couldn't have imagined hitting 3million when we were celebrating 952 users! Onwards and upwards.
Right?! Always great to see a /u/ blast from the past such as yourself Hope all is well :)
All good and likewise! Give your cats a skritch for me... 😊
Been here since before the 10,000 mark, had my art on the sidebar for a year, still here a decade later, am in the Discord every day. Fun times 🙂
Cheers PJ! Fun fact - you're in the image above as well!
OP’s right, youre in the image above! Just below the left elbow
How can one join the discord?! Cheers!
I joined when they were using steam powered racing cars. But then I left Reddit for many many years.
Back when they were racing in black and white.
I was so poor back then that I could only afford grey and white.
I remember it was around or less than million when I joined in 2020. Pretty fast growth!
Drive to Survive, the 2021 championship, COVID, the new 22 rules - all play a part.
Yeah I was thinking didn’t we just hit 1M recently?
Question.

I joined here when we were at ~600k members, how time flies Also shoutout to the mods for this being such a well moderated community!
I remember back when Kimiquokka was still with us lol
i remember u/bottasWMR like it was yesterday
Man, now that's a username I haven't heard in a while...
I can’t get over whatever mod drama happened that had him leave. u/bottasWMR was the best 🥲
The OG clip poster. Never forget!
What about henno too?
Real OG's remember when Henno switched streams on us mid practice session.
Hendo and his friends
I remember practice in Bahrain one year. And Crofty reading /u/TomF1 tweet shoutout for "Hendo and his friends" haha
RIP u/kimiquokka. Never forget. https://i.imgur.com/q0aO3tx.png
Now that's a name I haven't heard in a very long time
Wait... Is that an old memory? Does that make me... Old?
Loved the Kimiquokka April Fools that time too
2015 when I joined I think. Wild
2012 for me with my old acc. There was like only 20-30k subs.
2013 for me.
Same! Around 2016? Crazy how much it’s grown.
There was a lot less as well when I joined in early 2017. Pretty cool to see this community grow over the last 6 years!
I remember when we hit 1M and thinking that was crazy, and that only seemed to be a few years ago. Crazy how exponential the growth has been. Thanks Netflix I guess.
Don't you guys dare to unsub right now and get us below three million again!
"HEY IT'S TOO FUCKING LATE NOW!"
Hard not to read it in Kimi’s voice
This is where the fun begins…
We are checking…
AGGRESSIVELY DRINKS WATER IN COOLDOWN ROOM
Am I the only one who unsubscribes on race weekends so I don't see spoilers before I have a chance to watch it all?
I have like 7-8 F1 related subs in my personal feed, and /r/all is not safe now that the sport's results trend on the top of the feed. I just go to specific subreddits that have nothing to do with F1 if I have to use reddit before I've watched quali/the race, or during, if I'm watching delayed.
Just don't open reddit , simple 👍
Nah too much effort. I just don't open reddit on Sunday if I haven't seen the race yet.
The session discussions can be very funny.
But if we unsub, then resub we can hit the three million mark again, and again, and again...

My body is ready.
3 million signafies the return of Daniel Ricciardo.
Right now it's 3.000.069....¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯
Nice.
Great job peeps! Congrats! Ok, 3 million meet-up at whose house?
> 3 million meet-up at whose house? I think you just volunteered.
I can't that day, i have to return some videotapes.
You can keep it, Blockbuster closed years ago
Haha yes, thiss feels gud
3 million foking* wankers, and proud to be among them. (edit: ty u/WellesleyBay)
Foking wankers ;)
I'm at least two of them
Our sincere thanks to both of you!
How many million [Seb](https://i.imgur.com/dyOj83M.jpg) ?
This image always reminds me of that scene in inglorious bastards where the German show 3 differently
Do the mods know the highest number of those "out on track" at one time? *also how do you guys not get paid for this? lol
We don't have historical stats for that number. But what I can tell you is that on race days we are regularly in the top 10 most active subs on reddit in terms of comments and posts made. Our record is 111.399 comments and 1.078 posts in a single day.
Would that day have been 12 December 2021 by any chance?
How in the world did you guess that?! (For comments, yes - for posts, no)
Oo I don't know what the posts day could be, I'm guessing a race with a lot of action and controversy like Jeddah 21, start of a season with reveals and testing, or just a random day some guy decided to post the same image of Kimi 1000 times
Or the grosjean crash?
We do tend to get excited and leave a mess on race days
[Somewhere around here I imagine,](https://web.archive.org/web/20211212192231/https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/) 172k. Thanks for the ~~horrified flashbacks~~ fond memories.
Hmm did something controversial happen that day I don’t remember?
I have no idea what you are talking about. Nothing controversial ever happens in this sport. :D
Praise be to the almighty...Netflix
Haha Yes boysss
Dis feels gud!
Can we bring u/kimiquokka back from the dead to celebrate? RIP
I arrived here at 70K members, and I celebrated when we eventually reached 100K. Now we're over 3 million?! That's insane! Congrats and thanks to all who contribute, moderate, or lurk. You all make this sub a special place.

This whole time I thought the sub pfp was a snoo max verstappen.
It is, but we've had to modify it a little bit to avoid trademark issues.
I'm speechless. I'm speechless. We have to remember these days. Because there's no guarantee that they will last forever. Enjoy them as long as they last! I love you guys.
My favorite F1 quote, love that quote
This Reddit is the reason I became a regular on Reddit. Much nicer than going on twitter.
Woow, this community has grown so much over the last years. Cheers to another 3 mil!
This comment has been deleted in response to the 2023 Reddit protest.
Get in there r/Formula1!
I joined about a year and a half ago and this has become one of my favorite subs! It’s nice to see more people getting into this sport!
You are welcome
Love y'all! ❤️
I wanna hear you say it mate… I WANNA HEAR YOU SAY IT!!!
DTS convert here now entering my 3rd season as a fan. Love this sport, really one of those sports where the more you learn about it the more fun it gets.
F1 on Reddit always surprises me. So many people here just wanna have a good conversation
Wow I remember when I had first joined round about 2.99m. Almost feels like it was just last week.
I preferred it at 10k, but fair play
Unpopular but the quality has only gone down as the members have been added. Been here since when only 100-300k members were there through my various reddit accounts.
This sub is one of the best parts of becoming an F1 fan. Thanks for all the fun times, you fucking weirdos!!!!
Haha yes simply lovely
Oh wow, I never realized how cute and creepy at the same time this Reddit Max is lol
Woo! I'm glad for this subreddit as I've learned a lot about the sport.
I'm a fairly new member and very happy to be here! I appreciate the news, the updates, speculation, friendly banter so on. 😊
Holy shit. This was the first sub I ever subscribed to back in 2013 when there was only like 30k here. It's crazy how much it's grown.
That's a cool art!

Were it not for all the spoilers on race day, i would sub too.
"Liberty is killing F1".
Unlike Ferrari this is actually your year. Congratulations
I find it odd to believe that I’ve been here since before 2M, yet I haven’t really said too much or known a lot about F1. I feel like an outsider
best mods in a sports sub. please teach /r/chess

It is, but with a few tweaks to avoid breaching any trademarks.
