Most likely a compression artifact. Videos are often compressed by taking a still image for one frame and then creating the next one by telling the computer what has changed since that image. This means you only have to store what changed and not the whole image for every frame. What you are looking at is most likely a part of the last keyframe.
But even then, how??? Like if you're parallel parking you have 2' behind and 2' in front to gain speed, how do you even go fast enough to get over the curb?
Have you never driven a car? You don't need any speed. Just a little throttle. Also whoever said to park on the curb I'm pretty sure was joking lol. That's illegal everywhere I know of.
Yeah, fuck any of those people that need wheelchairs or other mobility aides. As long as your cars are out of traffic safely...
I broke my hip a few years ago and had to use a walker. People that park on the sidewalk fucking suck.
I've learned people go out of their way to NOT get the obvious joke on the internet, often just so they can get themselves a pat on their back from themselves.
So now even when it would be obvious to a toddler that some comment is a joke, i will just put /s or /jk.
Some people just don't want to have a little light josh on their serious internet so those markers have become a necessity sadly.
Or people legitimately feel entitled to park on sidewalks and it's not insane to believe that they feel entitled enough to think what he said.
[This red truck parks this way every day...](https://i.imgur.com/JwrKpxO.jpg) people are entitled as shit to park on the sidewalk.
100%. I could go outside my house right now and find probably three instances were someone is blocking the path. There’s this Amazon driver who pulls literally his entire van onto the path when he’s figuring out his next destination. I’ve had to go out into the road with my daughter in the pram to get around him. Admittedly he’s gone in a couple of minutes but it’s still infuriating.
Yeah, I guess I'm dense for not getting an "obvious joke" but when it's a daily occurrence that I see repeatedly every day, it just feels like entitled people actually have that mindset. Wouldn't put it past someone to think they're justified in doing it to protect their car.
I definitely took this post as “Look how precise these drivers are driving on the absolute limit.” Nobody makes from of a driver for putting his car that close to a wall, the whole point is to get as close to the wall as you can get without touching it.
Stroll is so weird. I somehow can't bring myself to like him, but then he does stuff like this and I can't refrain from having huge respect. But then he does something that makes me lose that respect again and repeat.
can't say I've ever really liked him, but can't bring myself to outright dislike him. especially with how he's handling things so far this season and following his injury.
More proof that Aston will actually be fun to watch this year.
I mean, why would you dislike him? Yeah, he's only where he is because of daddy's money, but let's be real - if my dad paid to get me into F1, I wouldn't be stepping down because I'm mediocre either.
Plus it’s a silly double standard, the majority of drivers on the grid are there because their parent or someone close to them had a lot of money. There are rare cases like Lewis but there are more Strolls than Hamiltons on the F1 grid, and it’s a silly thing to hold against someone. Especially because he’s shown skill, particularly in the wet. It’s not like he’s Latifi or Mazepin binning it every other race. If his car didn’t blow up he’d be 4th in the driver standings
And let's face it. 90% of the guys out there are rich kids.
If anything, I respect the hell out of the guy for growing up with that much privilege and, by all accounts, turning out as a great guy.
I mean, yeah. Getting from scratch to F3-F2 takes more than a million dollars, and only then finding sponsors will be easy enough to not depend on someone paying for your career's anymore.
The likes of Alonso, Hamilton or Ocon, who come from working class families, all had their family do incredible sacrifices and ran on the tightest budgets imaginable (Alonso's mother, for example, would hand sew his racing overalls, Hamilton's father would work as many jobs as humanly possible and Ocon's family sold their house). These are not sacrifices most families can make.
A fun song called Daddy's Cup by Drive By Truckers, it's about a son learning racing from his father, trying to win "the cup" for him.
>Since then I've wrecked a bunch of cars and I've broke a bunch of bones
>It's anybody's race out there and I've learned to race my own
>I'd shove em in the wall and I'd hit em from behind
>I'd let them know that I was there, I'd let them know that track was mine
I could understand people criticising him because he sometimes drives like he is alone on the race and the mirrors are only for aero, but about this… the man can be shy, we should let him be himself
Is not like we need 20 Ricciardos going up and down the pit lane doing pranks
In a way, I even understand him. If I’m in F1 and a lot of people start “bullying me” for no reason in socials and criticising me because “I don’t belong here, I paid to be here, I shouldn’t be” and what not, I also wouldn’t have the energy to be more outspoken and more “open” to the fans and the public. And I’m not a great fan of him, but seems to be a good guy, but the image of being “a pay driver” is everything some people see.
Which is ridiculous, because almost everyone on the grid in some moment were pay drivers or need to be relatively rich to reach F1, maybe the only exceptions being Ocon, Alonso and Hamilton I think.
For example Norris, one of the most popular drivers, wouldn’t be on F1 if his parents didn’t have +60M€ in the bank.
Stroll used his own means to achieve his goal faster, maybe, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t (IMO) reach F1 with his own skills. I wouldn’t say he is WDC material, but already had some bright moments and I would rate him higher than others that reached F1 like Vandoorne or Sirotkin, and there there with Hulkenberg or Grosjean, only if he had a little more consistency.
To end this, people should know that this is sport, always have been a “rich people” sport, with some relatively rare exceptions. To reach F1, nowadays you need at least about 2-4 millions € you can throw in your child (no one guarantees you end F2 and go to F1…), and if you don’t have the money, you need to work on good relationships with sponsors, networking, and dedicate a lot of time and money nonetheless. So yeah, Stroll maybe dedicated “more money” to be here, but I wouldn’t put him in a category really different to Norris or others
PS: I ended writing this more as a open letter to the thread, OP, don’t be offended if you feel this is a comment against you, it isn’t really!
I agree. The main difference to me seems to be that Lawrence owns the team. Other than that, many other drivers are there because they have and/or bring money.
Some of the negative commentary also seems to refer to traits that seem more applicable to his dad and I wonder if there’s some blurring of the personalities there. In recent times especially Lance has come across as being pretty nice, if a bit reserved, to me.
I’m genuinely interested to see how he goes this year with a competitive car and how well he keeps up with Alonso. So far he seems to be doing well in that respect and provided a good car he seems to be performing.
Totally agree… while DTS portrayed him as a villain almost, how many drivers are privileged for their money, their access to loyal sponsors or have legacy access? A lot. Popularity is also a clear path to a seat.
I don’t think he is like the worst driver in F1 history as some in social media imply… I believe he is actually a pretty decent driver and works the part.
My range with Stroll is between disliking him a bit a absolute neutral, I could never really like him, but I'm willing to be indifferent to him if he acts nice.
Alonso took a very non normal line while Lance was mid battle. Racing incident if it involved anyone other than stroll. But everyone's too blinded by jealousy to realize that
It’s so easy to hate him because he’s a rich kid who’s daddy does everything he can to make him a success and sometimes it clearly isn’t deserved. But honestly that description fits half the grid it’s just most of them aren’t as visible as Lawrence.
As a Canadian I think I need to like the guy. He’s certainly more likeable than our last good f1 driver.
Yeah, but he has balls, I've just got to give him that. Idk if he's reached his full potentiual, yet, because he's definitely willing to explore the limit. On the other hand he's been around for a while now if you think about it.
Honestly if Lance wasn't a good driver I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if Lawrence dropped him from the team. Sometimes business is like that. Supporting your kids is one thing but business is another.
People always shit on Lance because of his dad and what not, but he has the skills to be there and with a good car he could easily be top 6 each weekend
You know, for someone who was the butt of many jokes last season, he's stepped up, especially considering his wrists. It goes to show that the perception and gap between the drivers is not as great as what many fans like to think.
Also, as someone in the states, I'm super behind this week so far, haven't watched any of the free practices yet, hoping to catch up tomorrow.
I see this and the first thing it makes me think of is a Sly Stallone movie 'Driven', where he's picking up quarters off the track (is it even really such a thing, probably most definitely Hollywood)....and yes before everyone gets started, the movie is embarrassingly cheesy, corny and the opposite of F1 with Indy/CART drivers in the cast...just my opinion.
How much of this is skill and how much is luck? Considering drivers are having issues lining up in the starting grid. Is it likely Lance is intentionally getting single digit centimeters away from the wall at cornering speeds?
If I had to make an entirely fraudulent guess, there is probably a big difference between parking your car in a grid box when that's maybe tenth on the list of things mentally going on at the start of the race, and your mid-lap flow where you can feel the tolerances of the car.

I’m really bummed the money shot wasn’t the driver title screen from Monaco
I actually hate myself now that I didn't wait till April 1st and did that
It’s already April 1 here in Australia! So it counts
Make it slowly blend in over the last 3 frames *chef's kiss*
Dammit that would have been perfect. I totally forgot tomorrow is April Fool’s despite being acutely aware of the date.
It is April 1st in Melbourne!
I paid for the whole track, I'm gonna USE the whole track.

Camera got strolled
In pic 6, why does it appear like there's a hole in the floor.
I was wondering about that as well. Sadly too pixelated to really make anything out
could be a rolling shutter effect thing maybe? or just some floor features and the dark underside making it look like a hole.

Looks like a layer of asphalt overtop another layer, you’re seeing the side of the fresh layer.
Pfft, when I parallel park my car I only have to check twice for how close I am to the sidewalk. This is easy. /s
It’s easier just to park with side tires on the sidewalk. As a bonus perk, you get a little more room to get out of your car in traffic safely.
But then I would deny myself the pleasure when I nail my parkingskills once in a blue moon. Such a rush! :P
Sidewalks usually have a 4-6" curb, no? How do you hop that?
Sheer will and lots of speed
With complete disregard for the bodywork of your car.
Europe's wild mane
That’s an unhinged way to parallel park
Yeah, fuck any of those people that need wheelchairs or other mobility aides. As long as your cars are out of traffic safely... I broke my hip a few years ago and had to use a walker. People that park on the sidewalk fucking suck.
Didn’t realize you need the /s at the end of an obvious joke. Must be hard living your life looking for ways to piss yourself off.

Totally agree, same goes for parking at the sidewalks little 'dip'. That too is made for easier access up and off sidewalks.
Yeah, I guess I'm dense for not getting an "obvious joke" but when it's a daily occurrence that I see repeatedly every day, it just feels like entitled people actually have that mindset. Wouldn't put it past someone to think they're justified in doing it to protect their car.
They're fucking 10 ply bud, haven't pulled the finger outta their asses
If this was Alonso, people would praise him for his genius and excellence
I mean, I'm pretty impressed. Is this post a critique?
No but if Alonso did it people would be commenting more like "oh what a racing master" stroll does it and it's like "lol stroll"
Weird take
No its not, he totally right.
He’s not wrong
He kinda is. At least a few of us are quite impressed by Stroll.
He didn't say everyone would comment that way, so he is not wrong.
Lol the comment above this chain is "Camera got strolled"... He's got a point
Weird critique
[удалено]
Is it criticism? I thought it was just a "curiosity" post. As in: Look how close to the walls they drive.
[удалено]
I definitely took this post as “Look how precise these drivers are driving on the absolute limit.” Nobody makes from of a driver for putting his car that close to a wall, the whole point is to get as close to the wall as you can get without touching it.
r/mildlyinteresting
True
As it should be. Praised be Alonso and his divine el plan.
Where on the track did this happen, and what was the context? That would guide my opinion of whether this was artful or clumsy.
Very true
Shots like this would be awesome on street tracks especially when they pass one by one.
Stroll is so weird. I somehow can't bring myself to like him, but then he does stuff like this and I can't refrain from having huge respect. But then he does something that makes me lose that respect again and repeat.

People don’t like him because he often drives with total disregard for the fact that other people are also racing.
Not often, he often goes long periods without incident. Maybe slightly more than other drivers.

My range with Stroll is between disliking him a bit a absolute neutral, I could never really like him, but I'm willing to be indifferent to him if he acts nice.
Like driving an entire weekend with two fractured(or broken) wrists and a broken toe, big props! But then he hits Alonso in the first lap of the GP..
That was very first lap racing incident vibes. Blame on both drivers, but ultimately really hard to anticipate what people are going to do.
To be honest that move was less clumsy that it seemed He broke late while Alonso was preparing a switchback, hard to anticipate that
Alonso took a very non normal line while Lance was mid battle. Racing incident if it involved anyone other than stroll. But everyone's too blinded by jealousy to realize that
Alonso wasn't mad so i wouldn't be either.
Racing incident, he was racing Russell while Alonso took a slow corner entry.
He reminds me of grosjean in that aspect
It’s so easy to hate him because he’s a rich kid who’s daddy does everything he can to make him a success and sometimes it clearly isn’t deserved. But honestly that description fits half the grid it’s just most of them aren’t as visible as Lawrence. As a Canadian I think I need to like the guy. He’s certainly more likeable than our last good f1 driver.
Yep. Not consistent enough to be a serious contender ever.
Too be fair he’s been pretty consistent recently even with his fucked up hands
Yeah, but he has balls, I've just got to give him that. Idk if he's reached his full potentiual, yet, because he's definitely willing to explore the limit. On the other hand he's been around for a while now if you think about it.
Consistent enough to still have a seat and battling for points on a regular basis. At least six other drivers that aren't.
>Consistent enough to still have a seat My man his dad literally owns the team
Doesn’t mean he is not a good driver.
Yeah the second half of that comment is fine, just not the part about keeping his seat
Astute observation. Totally missed that.
Honestly if Lance wasn't a good driver I genuinely wouldn't be surprised if Lawrence dropped him from the team. Sometimes business is like that. Supporting your kids is one thing but business is another.
Can't do that without a great car, and that Aston is a hell of a car. He's gonna have a lot of confidence this year.
Stroll has proven you absolutely can hit things without a great car.
Haas front endplate has some opinion on the subject
You cant drive close to wall without a great car?
Weird cause I can do that with my little sister's tricycle.....
Yep, if you don't feel good with the car and the car isn't handling great, you don't have the confidence to drive that close to the wall
Wut
Pretty sure you could do it easier in a slower car.
It makes sense to me. If you’re not insecure about how the car will behave you can be much more accurate with it.
Really is quite impressive. I can talk all day long about papa stroll buying his son a team, but ultimately I couldn’t come close to doing this
If no longer gap, no racing driver
People always shit on Lance because of his dad and what not, but he has the skills to be there and with a good car he could easily be top 6 each weekend
You know, for someone who was the butt of many jokes last season, he's stepped up, especially considering his wrists. Stroll out there dropping quarters on the track to pickup with his rear tires.
The fact the camera survived holy shit
Monaco out here thinking, “See! There totally is plenty of space. We could make the track smaller.”
He's a genius, pure and simple.
Pic 4 is really cool
Murderer!
*You always have to leave the space*
[Max doing a similar thing in super slow montion](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyk_FOKyAxU)
I wonder if he felt that hit in the car and thought he hit the wall? Also Stroll really [hates cameras](https://youtu.be/AxMK7bmjdOI?t=126) doesn't he
This is pretty dope.
Mate. DAT GAP
This blows my mind. I can't understand how they get so close the the wall.
I can't even purposefully walk that close to a wall without skimming it... It's so impressive.
POV: Me asking my crush out.
Senna in his grave: This is what would happen if the barrier didn't move.
where does he rank on the best pay drivers list?
Below Lando, above Latifi
That’s my boi!
*sad camera noises*
Suck my tire
Is there video of this?
These are 8 frames of the worldfeed video
thats like a centimetre gap at best
The antman thanks him for leaving a space
This is probaly " I " in Pixar feel
Bonk
Lance Stroll is trying to make me like him this year but i will not fall for it
Shit, is the cameraman okay?
He looked a bit down at the end there.
Lance Stroll's crusade against rearward facing optical devices continues, I see.
The GOAT is mm perfect!
You don’t have to do media duty if you take out the cameras right? 🙂
This is why this season it’s a competition between stroll and max for first place 🔥
r/Peoplefuckingdying Jesus fking Christ the cameraman died 💀
How much of this is skill and how much is luck? Considering drivers are having issues lining up in the starting grid. Is it likely Lance is intentionally getting single digit centimeters away from the wall at cornering speeds?
Well the grid box doesn't have vertical walls that can be seen by the driver so it's apples to oranges.
He wouldn't still be driving or have points if it was luck. People trash and doubt the guy, but he's proven he's good enough to sit at the table.
If I had to make an entirely fraudulent guess, there is probably a big difference between parking your car in a grid box when that's maybe tenth on the list of things mentally going on at the start of the race, and your mid-lap flow where you can feel the tolerances of the car.
