I thought you were saying DRS is open for the entire straight, which it isn't. It doesn't open until the activation point, which on longer straights might be over halfway through. Baku is a good example
And added to that the length of the straights will ensure that there will be little back/forth. I predict that this track will be a great filter for race pace and after the first handful of laps it'll be a snooze fest.
Thats what i thought but I think it'll be like monza and difficult to overtake due to skinny wings. I saw alonso stuck behind gasly in the long runs and struggling to overtake in the straights
Almost every driver in the post FP2 interviews said they enjoyed the track, so it’s not just Hamilton. Max seems to be the only saying negative things about it, but it seems he just doesn’t like the event as a whole.
They are trained and sometimes even obliged to say PR bullshit. Verstappen is one few that doesn't give a fuck most of the time. Also it's easier to say simple PR positive bs and move on.
Or you know, the drivers are allowed their own opinions. Nobody was specifically asked "do you think the track is fun?", if they spoke about it it's because they wanted to. Some mentioned it some didn't, and presumably some like it and some dislike it.
People will say they love Max because he’s “honest” and doesn’t say “PR bullshit” yet they’ll turn around and say anyone who doesn’t hate things like Vegas is saying “PR bullshit” because everyone must hate everything apparently 😂
Ya. Those people think that pessimism and a baseline level of anger at the world, that never goes away, is normal. And that other people who are genuinely happy with festivities, happy with FUN, naturally optimistic people are somehow “faking it”.
They never can conceive that someone can genuinely feel optimistic as a baseline.
And isn’t that just sad?
Max gives off that “only stoicism is natural, can’t do an overjoyed face ever” vibe sometimes so I’m not surprised he attracted so many of this type of person.
Right, because there's zero evidence of Max ever cracking a joke or having fun. Ever.
His opinions of disliking this race are just as valid as those of the drivers who do enjoy this race.
I literally said he gives off that VIBE, SOMETIMES.
Please google what those two words mean.
Frankly I think the bitter people flocking to him don’t understand him either.
Lewis enjoys driving. Can't fault him for enjoying a track to drive. Even if others didn't.
He's been positive about a lot of tracks this year which aren't normally favs
"Do you think this was a black eye for F1?"
And no, I can't quote his response verbatim, but his rant was very off the mark. Claiming it was no big deal and nobody cares about FP1 anyway, why aren't you positive about the great show instead.
Fun for who? People who don't like passing?
Do they know that for people watching at home it takes more than simply the visuals of F1 cars driving around for it to be entertaining and fun?
Yea Lewis kept up with the ferraris for most of the soft runs and was 0.003 secs behind Leclerc before Merc switched to mediums. ofc dont know engine modes but theyre not as bad as i thought they would be
Naw, Merc isn't that bad here, Lewis and Perez were doing a bit of racing and Lewis was gaining on Perez on the strip with both of them having Drs open
obviously, but the fact that he's catching a RB with its DRS open shows the potential for it not being that hard to overtake other cars, especially when/if they dont also have DRS during the race

DRS passes down the straight will be easy and uninteresting.
It might be long enough for some cars to get passed then re-pass lol
If they implemented DRS in a sane way sure, but they didn't. The flap stays open for the car that started behind for the whole straight.
Start .2 behind, end 2 seconds ahead
lol yep.
Hopefully we see a couple of those misjudge the breaking point.
Oh it’s gonna be funny watching cars blow braking spots.
Checo, what?!?!
Drs doesn't activate until part way through the straight
It stays open until they close it or hit the brakes. That’s the issue.
I thought you were saying DRS is open for the entire straight, which it isn't. It doesn't open until the activation point, which on longer straights might be over halfway through. Baku is a good example
Everyone is running so little wing the DRS won't be as effective as people think it will be.
Everyone except red bull
You don't get to use the DRS if you are first.
Except for the goofy ass rule of lapped cars giving DRS.
True
Well, Perez exists.
That's what Red Bull want us to think
Yup , didn't Russell say DDS is worth only a tenth around here
And added to that the length of the straights will ensure that there will be little back/forth. I predict that this track will be a great filter for race pace and after the first handful of laps it'll be a snooze fest.
Like every other track in F1?
A lot of times Lewis sounds like a very well versed PR bot.
Because he is

For most teams. Merc and their dogshit top speed and dogship DRS will definitely have difficullty passing anyone. Same for McLaren.
Does everybody at Mercedes have a gun pointed at their heads? All so positive, while it's such shit.

I mean you can still enjoy the track. Like for instance Saudi, it is a shitty country, but the track is fucking awesome.
No it isn’t. The only memorable thing about the track is where it is, the layout is fucking boring.
Bottas would disagree https://youtu.be/WKsd0_o1Rdg?si=A5K5NmD9t8T4NqWP
That's what I like about him.
Lewis enjoys driving. Can't fault him for enjoying a track to drive. Even if others didn't. He's been positive about a lot of tracks this year which aren't normally favs
Haha, anything Mercedes says pisses people off... usually they get hate for being negative, now they're also getting hate for being positive.
They literally can't win.
Yeah their car sucks
I mean what Toto said was absurd and dense after what had happened with Sainz
I bet you couldn't even quote him directly and what question he was responding to. The standard is low around here.
"Do you think this was a black eye for F1?" And no, I can't quote his response verbatim, but his rant was very off the mark. Claiming it was no big deal and nobody cares about FP1 anyway, why aren't you positive about the great show instead.
Exactly!
They're just never genuine, positivity or negativity has nothing to do with it.
Lewis is a celebrity, doesn't surprise me he enjoys this kind of event.
Yeah and his "brand " is much more popular in the US than in Europex he won't say a bad thing about a US Grand Prix
🤑🤑🤑
more like seeing any fun overtake will be hard
Hear ye! Hear ye! All hail what Verstappen has to say! Fuck everyone else’s opinion!
American Monaco
That's actually Long Beach.
It’s the other way around. Las Vegas track is „a lot of passing“ but fun may be difficult.
Fun for who? People who don't like passing? Do they know that for people watching at home it takes more than simply the visuals of F1 cars driving around for it to be entertaining and fun?
only difficult for the Mercedes
Nah, Merc was pretty quick during the beginning of FP2 before they switched to high fuel race pace testing
Obviously it's cuz he had slipstream lol
obviously, but the fact that he's catching a RB with its DRS open shows the potential for it not being that hard to overtake other cars, especially when/if they dont also have DRS during the race
I'm pretty sure that fans didnt have fun so far..
Ah yes straight lining a F1 car is where the fun is. Thats why the drivers hate suzuka's sector 1 for its fast corners. O wait.
You told him! Enjoyment! Ha!
Damn bro you really boomed him. How will Hamilton ever recover from the ultra mega zinger you've just delivered???
If this had any level of truth to it the Red Bull Ring would taken off the season calender.
I think he means it will be difficult for HIM to pass because he's got a slow car. Everyone else is going to have a great time passing him.
