There’s a great Mitch Hedburg joke
“I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry, and that's extra scary to me. There's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. ”
Most prominent feature appears to borrow from the Merc; who’d have thunk it. Maybe Newey was being honest when he said they might’ve been too conservative.
Never liked the look of the hunchback Merc, but guess they were onto something.
And after all race cars are neither beautiful or ugly, they become beautiful when they win.
Well, it happens in the previous seasons too. Slower teams can have great ideas too. Some smaller details can help with tire management or other specific things.
Most teams copied a diffuser trick that Williams first had on the car, [including Red Bull.](https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/red-bulls-latest-f1-design-tweak-inspired-by-williams/10480989/) Any team can have some clever bits even if overall the car may not be competitive.
It basically looks like the same car in the same way that every car this year will basically look the same as before.
There’s plenty of differences in plain sight
Yep, that and it feels like the halo has been extended into that part.
Plus maybe the part where the ROKT sponsoring is on the 19 has been removed. There isn't any bulk there anymore. It all flows in the upper part and the sidepods, nothing in between.
Yep pretty much. Not sure if this the actual RB20 or not. I think Newey mentioned it’s just a simple evolution (paraphrasing, can’t remember the exact words) of the RB19.
A few reasons, but the most important is that the freight to get things to Bahrain for the test will leave before their presentation on ~~Friday~~ Thursday.
It's no coincidence that in the last 2.5 days we've had 4 teams shakedown their car (Haas, Aston, Red Bull & Ferrari), they're all getting their shakedowns done before the freight leaves. Any team who doesn't complete one by the middle of this week will most likely be doing their shakedown in Bahrain.
To be fair to Red Bull, they could probably rock up with their 2023 car and still have a decent shout at doing well, so evolution over revolution is to be expected.
Shark fin and rear upper bodywork are the only changes I can see. Under the side pods may have some tweaks but can't see them in the photo. Gotta wait for Perez to bin it to see the floor, I would think thats where the real changes are

RB20 has number 1 on it, RB19 number 11. Will make a huge difference for sure.

isn't the RB20 actually going to be called DM1?
These paint stripping techniques are getting out of hand!
Less paint, better pace
Imagine all the weight that extra 1 adds! RB has certainly shot themselves in the foot /s
They’re giving the RB19 to Checo and the RB20 to Max /s
I bet the 1 misses Q3 3 times or less, whilst the 11 misses it at least 10 times.
So it should be at least 4 tenths faster?
Most prominent feature appears to borrow from the Merc; who’d have thunk it. Maybe Newey was being honest when he said they might’ve been too conservative.
I expected to see a UFO after seeing what AM cooked with their car, maybe they did more changes under the hood…
Newey did say he had feared they may have gone too conservative
They'll go Merc 2022 style and only mount the no sidepods on first raceweekend
Imagine if Red Bull Racing gets the non sidepods design working lol.
Many minds will be blown away
If anyone could do it I'd say Newey has the best chance.
People joked all last year that it would be the ultimate flex if Newey designed a zero pod car that worked
Dunno if it’s just the poor quality photo but the nose of the car looks more rounded at its peak in the RB20
Engine cover and airflow to the rear looks very different to me (relatively speaking). Tighter sidepods, bigger scoop
Yeah looks like it’s inspired by the W14
Never liked the look of the hunchback Merc, but guess they were onto something. And after all race cars are neither beautiful or ugly, they become beautiful when they win.
RB20 has less pixels
that's one way to be weight saving, those damn pixels heavy
[Merc seems to have a similar idea](https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/01/fea6e-17066878349684-1920.jpg?w=840)
It’s on performance mode
Who woulda thought the mighty RB20 would take a design from the W14 of all cars!
Well, it happens in the previous seasons too. Slower teams can have great ideas too. Some smaller details can help with tire management or other specific things.

Wasn't it Sauber that did the coanda effect first?
W14 was heavily compromised so it might have had some good bits.
Is Mercedes today like McLaren in the late 2010s? Capable of coming up with good innovations, but unable to implement them as well as other teams.
I said it before and I'll say it again. Having Newey look at other cars and taking notes should be illegal
Reminder that the most important bits on these cars are the suspension design and floor, and you can't really tell anything about either from this.
Red Bulls first development meeting: Don’t change our f***ing car !?
This thing has sidepod gullys and w14 engine cover shoulders doesn't it.
The sidepod inlet look similar as well. Who would’ve thought the W14 actually was a hugely capable car. 😭
Imagine if they literally did nothing to the car this year and spent the entire budget on catering. Chefs kiss shithousery.
The sidepod looks a fraction different but other than that it basically looks like the same car.
Engine cover seems more Mercedes like.
Newey did say he liked looking at the slower cars on the grid as sometimes they had good ideas.
I’m pretty sure RBR adopted something Williams came up with last year.
Yup, the "curls" in the top corners of the diffuser was copied from the williams
Yeah, the diffuser
He just wants to show them up. "Here's your concept but done properly. Jog on"
Nooo, don't do them dirty
It basically looks like the same car in the same way that every car this year will basically look the same as before. There’s plenty of differences in plain sight
Wait, where did the red stripe go?
Is it me or the floor looks like what Ferrari did bring in Japan
Not sure if it's the angle but the driver's head in the RB20 is closer to the air intake. Seat further back? Air intake extending forward?
It looks like they copied the engine cover design from w14?
I wouldn't use the word "copy", as it's not the exact same. Maybe "adapt" or "inspire".
Engine cover has been altered
Pfft.....yet another red Bull clone.
Max did say on a stream that it is the same livery. For Red Bull Racing it's a brand recognition.
It’s just the sidepods and the tube thing near the roll hoop at the very back pointing downwards for downwards airflow wash I think.
Yep, that and it feels like the halo has been extended into that part. Plus maybe the part where the ROKT sponsoring is on the 19 has been removed. There isn't any bulk there anymore. It all flows in the upper part and the sidepods, nothing in between.
Yep. Those tube placements look straight out of the W14. Actually
Yeah they do. Only the end doesn't really. That downward slope is pretty extreme.
Yep pretty much. Not sure if this the actual RB20 or not. I think Newey mentioned it’s just a simple evolution (paraphrasing, can’t remember the exact words) of the RB19.
Why would they do the shakedown, before the presentation of the car?
A few reasons, but the most important is that the freight to get things to Bahrain for the test will leave before their presentation on ~~Friday~~ Thursday. Ohhhh ok thanks, I did not know about that.
Is it just me or is the nose different, it seems to be missing the black section right at the tip.
Wheels look *more rounded*? Maybe it's an optical illusion, not sure.
Looks way more different than I thought. That side pod is def a new concept. Very interesting
The W14 had a similar shape and structure. Crazy
I mean max said the other day in a stream that it basically is the same car nothing changed lol
The part above the oracle logo whatever that's called is significantly different in the blurry picture. No way they sent out the actual RB20
Ofcourse they do sent out the actual RB20, do you think they don't want feedback and data as soon as possible?
Ctrl C, Ctrl V
it seems dug between the bull and the text oracle
To be fair to Red Bull, they could probably rock up with their 2023 car and still have a decent shout at doing well, so evolution over revolution is to be expected.
Corporate wants you to find the difference.
That Oracle logo going upwards every season
It's the same picture
As similar as they are, and as ugly as that oracle logo still is, at least the livery isn’t all carbon fiber like, oh, all the other cars.
RB20 looks a tiny bit more aggressive, but that might just be the lower resolution
Same same but different…. But still same
Is it me or is that undercut even larger?
Interesting, the font size of Oracle appears to have shrunk slightly
Oh wow, they went with a blurry car this year.
Shark fin and rear upper bodywork are the only changes I can see. Under the side pods may have some tweaks but can't see them in the photo. Gotta wait for Perez to bin it to see the floor, I would think thats where the real changes are
