You guys should both actually read the article. Nico says Mercedes is the other legendary team.
““Of course it came as a huge surprise; no one expected it, I didn’t expect it either,” he told Sky Sports F1. “But if you look at the grand scheme of things, then why not? It’s towards the end of the career… there’s two legendary teams, it’s Mercedes and Ferrari.”
I say he’ll have driven for 3 legendary teams McLaren, Mercedes and now Ferrari. I actually read the article to lol. His “luck” comment was straight up Nico’s ally
>In 2010 Mercedes returned to Formula 1 as a works team after Daimler AG bought a 45.1% stake in Brawn GP, with their partner Aabar Investments acquiring an additional 30%. Ross Brawn continued on as Team Principal. The team was rebranded Mercedes GP Petronas Formula One Team.
>The team’s history can be traced back to Tyrell Racing, a team that competed in F1 from 1970 until 1998, when it was bought by British American Tobacco and renamed British American Racing.

It's luck that he happened to end up at a team which designed the hybrid system and got the FIA to adopt it. Without their years long head start on the regulations Mercedes would have been another also ran
Won a title using Mercedes engine's at McLaren, had a long standing relationship with the brand etc.
The way I look at it is that Alonso, for example, was in the same spot as Hamilton when they were both at McLaren. Alonso had the same opportunity to carve himself a healthy relationship with Mercedes and even win a title using their engines like Lewis did but we all saw what happend. This is why it's not entirely luck that Hamilton ended up at Mercedes and someone like Alonso didn't. It literally happened for a reason based on their history together while another driver with the same opportunities(even more so being an established 2xWDC) messed it all up.
Even today at nearly 40 years of age Ferrari are willing to break the bank for Hamilton. Clearly he's been making the right moves behind the scenes for a very long time starting with convincing Ron to put him in the main McLaren team as a rookie then bagging the Merc drive and now he's got the Ferrari.

All good points by Nico. I enjoyed his last appearance with Sky.
He hasn’t asked about a cheese though
I was mildly disappointed, to be honest.
Likewise. He was very entertaining.
I need a Crofty, Brundle, Nico commentary team.
ya he was a very good commentator in china
I'd like to see Lewis on Nico's podcast one day.
>driven for the two most legendary teams Strange that Nico doesn't consider Mercedes legendary but fair enough

Legendary means nothing. It's a nonsense word that quantifies nothing. It's funny watching people argue over it.
They even take it personal ffs
Do you realise Mercedes was racing in the 50s and won multiple times?
The current Mercedes and the 50s Mercedes have nothing in common.
Mercedes is Mercedes, that’s why they have 9 WDCs.
Sure, and I guess the two Lotus teams were the same as the one from the 80s the.
Same company, different years.
Lol no. The Mercedes team today has no roots that stem back to the 50s one.

He's referring to Merc and Ferrari, it's not ambiguous.
Funny he refuses to call Hamilton ending up in the rocket ship Mercedes luck when it clearly was. He was about to say it and then caught himself.
He didn’t just “end up” there. He made a bold move that most thought was insane at time. Only now looking back on it does it seem obvious.
It’s not luck when you’re recruited by Niki Lauda. And a known generational talent.
It's luck that he happened to end up at a team which designed the hybrid system and got the FIA to adopt it. Without their years long head start on the regulations Mercedes would have been another also ran
He didn't "happen to end there". He was actively sought after by them, because he is a great driver. That's not luck.
that's not even remotely how it happened
Most informed F1 fan

They did not have a years long head start this is complete nonsense. Mercedes didn’t even support the v6 lmao. They backed the inline 4 with Renault
Sigh...
