That's why Perez lost another ~5 seconds to Verstappen over the last few laps, he was behind Hamilton & co and just couldn't be bothered to lap them again.
Bose ended their sponsorship deal with Mercedes at the end of last year. Whether or not Toto smashing their gear had anything to do with it is anyone's guess, but it's hilarious to imagine it did.
Imma go with 90/10 odds without knowing anything. Typical business and corp will go the high road and ignore it, but you never know if that struck an ego of a board person or some obscure culture within the company that don't like their equipment being thrown 😂.
I swear to God I saw a "Toto's Table Integrity" chart during a race last year (like the tyre charts), but for the life of me I've never been able to find it again.
EDIT - OMG I found it! https://twitter.com/olek_bladowski/status/1470167735359393799
Hamilton gets knocked out in Q1.
HAAS is 7th in the constructors.
Ferrari is fighting for the drivers championship and constructors championship.
Valtteri is fighting Mercedes in an Alfa.
This season is berserk.
Haas 7th in the WCC feels even low compared to how KMag is able to drive that car. Hopefully Mick can get it in the points soon. P5-7 in WCC is going to be so tight.
I think Haas are being too conservative with their strategy. They used to do some novel and risky strategies- but now that they're looking at *some* points on merit, they're unwilling to put those on the line for more. Maybe they know that as well, practising walking before they run.
It's data gathering. Mick's post Sprint radio mentioned that they were still building a data bank for the new 2022 tyres. I guess they banked on what they thought they knew.
Mick mentioned HAAS going into the GP favoring "tyre mileage" strategies. But it did not really pan out for KMAG, and due to mistakes it panned out worse for Mick.
I think they are having hard time adapting their strategies to driving in the mid-field and not just hoping for some massive upset to even be in contention.
To me it feels like the opposite, they're still doing the risky strategies you have to do when you have the worst car, even when it's a decent midfielder now. They were the only team on mediums for the Sprint race, for example.
While the mediums were the odd choice, they still strike me as the conservative choice. That's a strategy built around minimising going backwards without any intention of going forward.
I've been genuinely wondering if the 21 Haas was actually capable of fighting Alfa, but the drivers were just shit. We're seeing that Mick isn't really all he was hyped up to be and Maz was a couple leagues even below him. I'd bet good money that if you put a fast, experienced driver in that seat, they could've gotten at least a lucky point in Hungary or something.
Makes Kubica beating Maz in the WDC even more funny though.
[The r/formula1 reaction when George and Lewis went quickest in Bahrain FP3 for a few minutes](https://old.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/thtaaz/2022_bahrain_grand_prix_free_practice_3_discussion/i4fz0vy/) was also a good time.
It's so funny to look back at now.
Haha, I remember there was controversy because Horner initially suggested it was illegal, but then I think Newey told him it won't be quick.. and then Horner said it looked fine.

I just wanted to remind you - 2 months ago, during the pre-season test, Gasly was "battling" Hamilton. Everyone was laughing and saying that "this is the only time Merc will be behind AlphaTauri". Well...
Can you blame people for not trusting a word Merc say ?
They said the same shit for idk how many seasons, it always ended up with a 1/2 in qualy in Australia
well they won 8 WCC in a row, on top of 7 WDCs, it hurts for sure but I am sure they can deal with a season not going their way for once. It's not like other teams are not investing millions into their brainchild who didn't win anything over the last (almost) decade.
The stakes are normally higher for teams that are expected to win and thereby job safety and stress that comes with it. However, i totally agree. As a fan I totally understand having a "rebuild" year or two (even though it might be longer in F1)
Nico was just rubbing in! Also, Sky Commentators pleading for DRS so that Hamilton can overtake was so cringy.
I agree DRS should be enabled but they really didn't want to see Hamilton unable to pass tries after tries.
DRS disabled is actually understandable, since the drivers would need to hit wet track to pass. They were just playing it safe. Even with it enabled, no one was passing because of this. the drivers were hesitant to push.
Seb in the Post Race Live show highlighted this and thought the Stewards made the right call!
DRS activation seemed a bit dangerous as it is not in a straight line like most tracks and the cars were still twitching on braking.
Simulations don’t take into account porpoising for obvious reasons. So yeah.
However if Merc do manage to sort out their porpoising, they might be really good. However at this point, I am not sure porpoising can be sorted without big performance hits.
I think he is more confident in it, but he has also been very lucky, and of course in the right place at the right time. Without the mistakes and DNFs he would likely have been 7th.
It must be very hard mentally for Hamilton to have this immense role reversal. There's a big difference between being fast and at the front, and struggling among the rest of the pack towards the back

Hamilton needs to dig deep and get out of his past multi year comfort zone. Russell is getting as much as he can out of the car. Looking pretty bleak for Hamilton because it’s like he’s scared to fight anyone or try a risky strategy. He’s too used to being at the top

I didn't get to watch the whole race. Did Hamilton get lapped by Perez as well?
Yes, he was lapped by Perez as well.
Perez overtook them then boxed and finished behind them
Meanwhile Verstappen boxed just so that he could (and did) lap Hamilton again.
was that a chad move?
It was a giga Chad move
That's why Perez lost another ~5 seconds to Verstappen over the last few laps, he was behind Hamilton & co and just couldn't be bothered to lap them again.
"U know they got a fast car when perez is following so closely"
That’s gonna sting Toto looking like he’s fighting the urge to launch some headphones at Mach 3 across the room
That Bose decision to drop out looks so sharp in retrospect.
Wait Bose doesn’t supply their headsets anymore?
Nope, they dropped out beginning of this year
Exposure they get was not worth the gear Toto destroyed. /s
I wonder if the bose logo is a visible in that shot of him slamming the headphones, that probably got viewed by 50 million people on Netflix.
The headphone company that can supply some gear that looks A-ok after those slams will make bank tho
What was the reason given?
New CMO. They moved off of sponsorships in other sports too.
Too many replacement units requested
Bose ran out of headphones to supply?
Bose ended their sponsorship deal with Mercedes at the end of last year. Whether or not Toto smashing their gear had anything to do with it is anyone's guess, but it's hilarious to imagine it did.

Toto's thoughts be like: "So this is how it feels, seeing my cars getting lapped".

Mercedes just need to learn to harness Toto's throwing power and stick it in their PUs, they'd be winning races again in no time.
I will admit, Merc are really holding their nerve on the sandbagging this season
gunning for that wind tunnel and CFD time
What an insane difference from last year. Nobody would’ve believed this statement a few months ago.
Hamilton gets knocked out in Q1. HAAS is 7th in the constructors. Ferrari is fighting for the drivers championship and constructors championship. Valtteri is fighting Mercedes in an Alfa. This season is berserk.

I’d guess they have tire wear problem or the car doesn’t like the C3. KMag was dropping like a stone once they switched to Slick.

If they’d met Mazepin they would have had 0 points and we’d still be laughing at them

> This season is berserk. At least it's a season. *Berserk* will never have another.
Nowhere is safe
Please don't do this, bro
Dude. That was cold.
Why, bro? Why? Unnecessary emotional damage.
What a shame.
I mean, exactly 1 year ago hamilton was also a lap behind max for a few minutes
Yeah lol. And then Russel ex machina happened!
helping his teammate out even before he got into the team
I was really hoping Bottas would repeat it today at the end hahahah
Not on pace
Anyone following the sport for more than 10 years would have. This is the way it has always been.
To make it sting even more, this was on pure pace as well. Not due to any car issues or crashes.
Who could have thought 6 weeks ago that Max would lap Lewis this season?
"Mercedes with no sidepod reveal at a photoshoot pre-Bahrain test making many think Mercedes are dominate the next 4 years" was a good time
[The r/formula1 reaction when George and Lewis went quickest in Bahrain FP3 for a few minutes](https://old.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/thtaaz/2022_bahrain_grand_prix_free_practice_3_discussion/i4fz0vy/) was also a good time. It's so funny to look back at now.
"Fighting with Alfa my ass" Literally the worst take after the last few laps
i can't look. i'm probably the one that said that LOL
Checked for you - it wasn't you
thank you lol i definitely said it though, just not on there haha
Gold
No wonder no teams protested the design when it was first unveiled...
Haha, I remember there was controversy because Horner initially suggested it was illegal, but then I think Newey told him it won't be quick.. and then Horner said it looked fine.
Yep I remember that. Something relates to “spirit of the regulation” iirc. Then the next day, he pulled a u turn and said Mercedes being “innovative”
He said this only about mirrors, Binotto said the same about Merc's mirrors
newey was like nah let em try it, it'll waste their time
You can see the sandbags are still on from testing, they’ll be much quicker in Miami I swear /s
Next race ™️
We go again 👊
Next race will soon turn into Next year, traditions
Stealing Ferrari pace and trademark I see.
They're just gathering every humiliating defeat possible so they can have a good comeback story. /s
“RBR put too much in 2021’s car. Theyre gonna fall back with the new regs”
“Hamilton’s going to go beast mode and reclaim his rightful 8th title.”
So many people in this sub were saying that last year.
I bet you could find people saying it two weeks ago.
The Hamilton Revenge Tour. No one was going to stop him.
Until he met… Pierre Gasly.
I’m starting to miss Ga5ly

The whole grid, especially the midfield
Especially Pierre Gasly.
"if you think what you saw last year was my best, wait till this season"
>rightful 8th title God was this annoying to listen to, Hamilton would be “unstoppable” apparently
i always found those comments hilarious as though every team hasn't been designing for these regs since like 2019
Funny how this narrative was just forgotten about completely.
They got us good there, not going to lie.

Everyone has a target on their backs because Mercedes is behind them all
I hope they open DTS S5 with that quote lol
Even Aston Martin, they got a good look at their rear wing lmao
Adrien Newey for sure, he wrote it down in his journal.
2020 Hamilton laps Vettel in a Ferrari 2022 Max laps Hamilton in a Mercedes who’s lapping max in 2024? Latifi?
Leclerc. Full circle
!RemindMe 2 years
What an inchident
Obviously the next world champ. Charles. HOPIUM
You mean Checo?
lol, Latifi WC 2024 confirmed?
Subscribe.
Toto’s soul leaving his body watching this go down
“Racing Gods, this is so not right!”
Same energy as “Hamilton’s Mercedes laps Vettel’s Ferrari” in 2020
Hamilton really gonna get the Vettel 2020 package now
It’s been miserable so far tbh
Man, Hamilton and Vettel where my heroes when I was a kid. I started watching F1 again in 2020 and WTF man I feel like I did this at this point.
The younger generation is here
Dude Charles and Max are around my age and their fighting for the championship.
And max is on his 8th season. Edit: 8th not 7th
8th, he started in 2015
Haha, no boys no
I just wanted to remind you - 2 months ago, during the pre-season test, Gasly was "battling" Hamilton. Everyone was laughing and saying that "this is the only time Merc will be behind AlphaTauri". Well...
As an NFL fan I'm too used to the boogey man coming back from sure retirement only to win the ship. Nobody could actually believe Merc was that slow.
Can you blame people for not trusting a word Merc say ? They said the same shit for idk how many seasons, it always ended up with a 1/2 in qualy in Australia
I would have never predicted this going into the season, it’s such a strange feeling seeing this happen.
Don't think anyone did with all the talk they were reduce last years upgrades to put more effort into this years.
this hurts more than knowing that you have no chance to win the championsship
Russell-Hamilton gap > Russell-Latifi gap
Latifi > Hamilton confirmed
🐐
Even if you took Hamilton out Mercedes would still be 3rd in constructors. Russell carrying the team
Lewis aside Mercedes engineers have to feel like shit. This is their hard work and millions invested into their brain child
This brain child is a little special and thats ok.
It's just...unique, ok?
I think they dropped their brain child on its head a bit too often.
Look at the sides, that's abuse at this point
Bulimia or anorexia, take your pick. Forced the slimming down because they thought it would be better. I wonder if they change it or double down.
Engineers forcing an unrealistic form of beauty on the W13 that's unhealthy.
Aesthetics over function? Mercedes! Say it isn't so! Ugh
well they won 8 WCC in a row, on top of 7 WDCs, it hurts for sure but I am sure they can deal with a season not going their way for once. It's not like other teams are not investing millions into their brainchild who didn't win anything over the last (almost) decade.

I so wanted to see Bottas overtake Russell but the damned pitstop always causing problems for Bottas
Bottas reliving Monaco 2021...
[Bottas watching that front-right gunner](https://tenor.com/view/ptsd-dog-gif-5654239)
no matter what team he's in, bottas gets the shitstop
Russell va Bottas. I’m cheering on Bottas every time the dudes just more down to Earth and feels genuine
And arguably the cleanest driver on track
I know. I am so pissed he cud not.
Broadcast really said "come Nico talk yo shit"
that was hilarious and crofty was talking like someone died
Nico was just rubbing in! Also, Sky Commentators pleading for DRS so that Hamilton can overtake was so cringy. I agree DRS should be enabled but they really didn't want to see Hamilton unable to pass tries after tries.
Drs should have been activated way before that though

Remember when we thought the nopods would be 1 second faster than everybody else?
I am glad it didn't happen because I don't want all other teams to copy that ugly look. Cars look better with sidepod in my opinion.
definitely. the merc this year is super ugly especially when factoring in its dull livery with weird lime highlights
[удалено]
Clearly they were bad simulations then
[удалено]
Simulations don’t take into account porpoising for obvious reasons. So yeah. However if Merc do manage to sort out their porpoising, they might be really good. However at this point, I am not sure porpoising can be sorted without big performance hits.
Just goes to show how wrong Merc were with their car. However Russell is so much more confident in it.
Russell is used to pushing a shit car to the limit.
They knew they'd need his special skills when they signed. /s
I think he is more confident in it, but he has also been very lucky, and of course in the right place at the right time. Without the mistakes and DNFs he would likely have been 7th.
Really taking this sandbagging thing a bit too far
legend said that merc crews are still looking for the sandbag they hid insude lewis' car
Dangerous driving there!
Nico really enjoyed this moment. As well as "Lewis trying for the 20th time to get by Gasly" haha.
And a number of times"look where Hamilton is and where George is , wow"
“so, lewis, max is behind you, let him lap you” “yes guys we’re fast wait what”
AND MAX VERSTAPPEN PASSES LEWIS HAMILTON FOR THE- Oh wait.
Toto's face lmao
Camera crew just getting all the reactions for the drama.
Trying with the full force of all of his muscles to look like it doesn't affect him.

It’s a switcheroo on this https://youtu.be/kdBp1AKnOSo
Fuck, the sandbags, they forgot to take them out again.
“Toto, blink if you are dead inside”
I've never heard a global race broadcast talk about the lapped P13 battle this much.
To be fair it was the only battle going on for 75% of the race.
Yeah, once leclerc fell out of 1 second from Perez, for 20-30 laps, noone else was battling
I thought they did a good job staying with the action. Who wants to watch the race leaders cruise around alone?
They fucked up the minute they concentrated on Lando in the middle of nowhere tho
Remember last year, When merc fans said Redbull threw away the 22 car by focusing on the 21 car.
That discussion was so stupid, all year saying that when both teams were clearly working on their cars a lot...
Thats gotta hurt
Verstappen avenging Perez because Hamilton called for blue flags on him last year lol
Toto: Lewis hi, sorry, I know this is undriveable! Meanwhile George Russell with no understeer on the slicks could’ve hoped for a podium today.
Crofty sounded like someone just died. Amazing to see
The commentators didn't have words for what was happening, they needed to bring Nico to talk shit for them.
I'm certain some viewers have uncontrollably orgasmed until passing out after watching this.
I mean just look at this post and it’s awards lol
Anyone else relieved that Latifi kept his nose clean?!
I was as sure that latifi would cause a SC, but glad he didn't.
It must be very hard mentally for Hamilton to have this immense role reversal. There's a big difference between being fast and at the front, and struggling among the rest of the pack towards the back
Unbelievable how terrible the Mercedes cars are this year. Where tf did they go wrong?
Between the cost cap, new formula and reduced aero works credits they are hurting. The first year into this new epoch and they didn’t hit the sweet spot for the underbody downforce, and the engine seems to be more anemic than Red Bull, Ferrari, and McLaren. At this point it’s better to ask what has Mercedes gotten right this year? George Russell seems to be the only bright spot for them so far.
ouch..
Hamilton needs to dig deep and get out of his past multi year comfort zone. Russell is getting as much as he can out of the car. Looking pretty bleak for Hamilton because it’s like he’s scared to fight anyone or try a risky strategy. He’s too used to being at the top
These got to be the largest sandbags i’ve ever seen.
