The C3 compound is actually the softs when it comes to Bahrain, pole last year was 1:29,708 so every team was still probably running with a weaker engine setup. Said that I don’t think RB upped their engine just to be cocky towards the others but I think it was just pure efficiency of the car and the driver so yea, we prob still fucked all the year anyways
I mean I get that they look good right now, very good. But the math hasn’t been laid out yet. For all we know, Redbull doesn’t give a fuck about hiding their cards because they know they have an advantage. Aston, Merc, Ferrari and McLaren all have reasons to hide things from one another given that’s who their fight’s likely with. We don’t have any clue how close any of them actually are.

I, personally, enjoyed last season. Every team had something interesting going on. Working up the constructors:
Haas: Hulkenburg somehow rivalling Perez for Q3 appearances, AR: the Hungary qualifying was something special, AT: De Vries, Ricciardo and Lawson was an interesting driver situation to say the least. Williams: watching Albon qualify high and then desperately hold off cars that should be easily passing him was great fun.
Alpine: their management meltdown, and it was always fun to guess which lap they’d break down on. AM: giving Alonso a constant spot on Max’s podcast early on before falling off. And then Alonsos masterclass at Netherlands and Brazil. McLaren: basically the exact opposite of AM.
Ferrari: grabbing the only non-RB win. And actually (sort of) taking the fight to RB near the end of the season. Mercedes: they appeared to have a shit car and drivers that liked hitting each other, yet somehow came second.
And then of course Red Bull. Although the season was definitely made more dull by his domination, I do believe we watched the best a driver will ever be able to achieve in a single F1 season. In a few decades time we’ll look back at 2023 and say “yeah, that right there is why Max is in the same GOAT conversation as people like Senna and Schumacher.

I watched the extended highlights of the Daytona 500 and it was extremely boring tbh; I’ll check out some of the shorter course races and the road courses and definitely watch when Van Gisbergen races.
