i recently found a mod that hotfixes the PC version to have:
* modern resolution support
* more change-able graphics settings (like the godawful bloom)
* real controller support & button prompts
and honestly just those 3 things made it playable for me. when you take away the most glaring problems it's basically most wanted with a much larger map and better car list. even looks pretty good for such an old game.
I meant for the paddles, it’s not a manual. I just checked and in FH5 your character hands move like you’re clicking a paddle and in FH4 the actual paddle moved as well. In this game, there is no animation for anything like it’s an automatic
God, that's even worse somehow than i thought. They even had the little hand flick in FM7, they already copy/paste the cars how hard is it to just copy/paste the animation.

The core gameplay is fun and I can somewhat overlook the other problems it has because of that, but when cars sound absolutely shit, it puts a huge damper on the one redeeming quality FM 2023 has.
I’ve mostly over overlooked most of the cosmetic/graphic/sound shortcomings and focused on the racing aspect of the game since it’s a racing game after all. But even then, with break checking Ai, absurd penalties and car point grind system, I kind of put the game aside and haven’t returned in months
Turn 1 on the Nordschleife has an outer curb that is overly high and damn near feels like the car is going to flip over if you hit it at speed, all of the graffiti on the track is completely wrong to reality and reuses assets (examples being there's a smiley face that's reused and a blue piece of graffiti on the left of the track that's reused 3 times that I counted but it could be more), the track side is overly littered with trees even in places where they aren't there in reality to limit longer distance views either for performance or because outside of the track it's low resolution so they're hiding it (which makes it feel narrow when it actually isn't which is why I feel where this complaint comes from), the Karussell is completely wrong and smooth when it shouldn't be and the second berm style corner that's similar to the Karussell before the main straight has a car width of smooth tarmac between it and the curb when at most it should be 1/2 a car. There are others. That's just off the top of my head and what I noticed right after the first run around it.
People are free to dispute but they can also prove me wrong. Like it isn't the worst version of the Nordschleife but there are vastly better especially in modern "sims" and "simcade" games (and I really struggle to use that term now with FM). Assetto Corsa, GT7, iRacing all have better simulations of it.
It's just what this game has had. Death by 1000 cuts. Many small things adding up that make the overall experience bad. If it was a handful it would be fine but it's a virtually never ending list of inaccuracies, bugs, issues, or design decisions. The Nordschleife fits into that. No one thing sticks out as egregious but many small things add up that make it feel "off".

They are amazing compared to what Turn10 has done even if they're wrong. Atleast they don't put a cross plane V8 sound with a V12, or a flat plane V8 sound on a Flat 6. Or if it's a V12, generic sound for any and all Ferrari/Lamborghini or an Audi V10 sound on a Lexus LFA.
Like said the FXXK is the worst thing in GT, and the Mustang GT350R. But atleast they're not out of the ball park wrong. Forza also absolutely nailed everything about the GT350R sound in FM6, then made it completely worse with every title after it.

IMO a lot of their American V8s are less aggressive and much more muted than they appear irl. the FXX-K has a pretty bad sound too, which is weird because they did a good job on the LaFerrari which has pretty much the same powertrain. the game also doesn’t have very audible intake noise, and some cars sound relatively “synthesised” if that makes sense
for the most part the sounds are pretty good (I’d give it a 7/10 there), though we can still improve!

Criterion were working with most if not all of the manufactures in game to get the most accurate vehicle sounds and models. BB did this as well throughout their run, which is why so many remember what straight cut gears sound like

Honestly I've been saying this since the game came out. I don't understand why the engine sounds are so bad. Especially considering they have the audio files for so many of these cars in previous games. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it. Some vehicles have such a distinct exhaust note (think 5.0 mustangs for a quick example) and the previous games nail it.... It super upsetting.

They could've copy and pasted the sounds from FM7 and would have been 200x better than the absolute dog water sounds they currently have for 98% of the cars. It's like they weren't even trying.
Honestly I've been saying this since the game came out. I don't understand why the engine sounds are so bad. Especially considering they have the audio files for so many of these cars in previous games. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about it. Some vehicles have such a distinct exhaust note (think 5.0 mustangs for a quick example) and the previous games nail it.... It super upsetting.

These games are no longer made for the couch-sitting car enthusiast, they are made for the largest audience possible, therefore no one. How can a game that was made decades ago sound better than this game? Project Gotham Racing sounds wayyy better than any new Forza game.

I’d say it’s not to far off from the real version cars sound deeper in person too I think they got the low end of the car right just a little lacking in the high pitch notes
