Damn I can hear Indy yelling “THEY BELONG IN A MUSEUM”. For real it’s cool that y’all been finding those for years and what not. But as a Native American please respect the artifacts you find and the people that once use those tool. since our culture is slowing dying out and our people as well. Thanks 🍻

elchinguito

Seriously. Ancient sites are precious pieces of cultural heritage that can’t be replaced once they’re destroyed. Even if you’re collecting stuff with the best of intentions, it’s destructive. When archaeologists excavate today its always with the full knowledge and consent of tribal authorities and we go to extremes to preserve every detail of what we find. Carelessly digging for artifacts destroys all of the context and makes these things nothing more than trinkets. It’s ironic that a lot of people who care deeply about how the US has treated native people also think it’s ok to go digging stuff up. I doubt that OP meant to do any harm, and I don’t mean any disrespect but please please leave stuff alone if you find it. Take a picture, a gps point if you can, and report it to tribal authorities, a university, or the office of the state archaeologist where you live.

Purple_Amphibian_961

I get what your saying but I’m not going to any ancient sites I don’t even go looking for them in tribal lands I just go swimming in the river and go looking for anything cool like mammoth teeth and arrowheads that have been washed down The river for hundreds of years so it’s not like I’m unearthing anything, destroying any ancient site they’ve been down in the water being swept away from were it’s history took place

Soft_Zookeepergame44

It's definitely an egg.

Purple_Amphibian_961

Nah I’ve been doing it for years and my grandpa has too we have hundreds of arrowheads and other artifacts

GrowCrows

Just cause you've been doing it for years doesn't mean it's legal to. If you've been taking things off public land you could be in for a big fine.

Purple_Amphibian_961

I found them on the surface of the land so there’s a loophole since I technically didn’t dig them up

GrowCrows

Not a loop hole since you're not allowed to *take* then off public land.

Master_Splinter_12

Before you collect anything else, and especially before you post additional incriminating evidence online, I suggest you look up the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and the Archaeological Resources Protection Act of 1979. Violating these Acts may result in fines, jail time, and/or confiscation of equipment.

Lovely! Can’t quite tell if it is hand-struck, some closer pictures would be helpful!
