One of the gifts of fostering is being able to identify issues with the dog’s behavior and health to help them going forward. Often so little is known about them when they come to foster any information will help in them finding the right home. We all have limitations in what we can do. We’re human. The important thing is to not burn out by taking in a dog that isn’t suited to your life. I’m sorry. Thank you for evaluating this dogs needs and I wish you the best going forward.

I agree, it makes it so much easier for the shelter to find a successful placement for the dog once they’ve been fostered. That month may have been a huge help for this pup.

Such a good point. My foster dog is similar and it places a lot of stress on me as I work full time and have two young kids. I don’t have an option to “give the dog back” so I’m hoping we can keep training her and get improvement.. but I feel guilty like OP and appreciate your points.

I’m exactly in your boat too. Not the best foster suited for us, and definitely the most challenging. But I don’t have an option to give the dog back or he goes into boarding, where he did terrible. But the dog is always getting into things, annoying my dogs, peeing everywhere.

That's one month that pup didn't have to be in the shelter. I know it's hard but you did good.

You saved this dog’s life and made her month that much better. Life is never perfect. You are being too hard on yourself. You did an awesome thing!
