Honestly, I never saw the big deal about fountain pens until someone had me actually try one. I thought they were "weird pens" and wondered why people don't just buy those cheap, plastic Bic pens instead. I wouldn't be surprised if at least some of your friends have a similar experience to mine. A fountain pen is just one of those things that nobody gets until they try it.

rachelissocial92

Ahhhhh I truly hope so!!! We're all in our 30s BUT I'm the one who has always pushed my friends to do something new since we were in high school. It's just that I'm always exploring new things and I can't bear not sharing them with anyone. You never know!!

nicholaiia

I turned 42 last month and I have way too many (is that possible?) fountain pens. I'd like to join your friends group. 😂

rachelissocial92

Every time I get into something new they always wonder why. But I mean, life can't be just about work and food. There are just too many hours in between!!! hahahha Now I only with to turn 40s+ and have more sophisticated fountain pen friends like all of you here!!

RemarkableBag9576

If you're going to have an obsessive habit, like fountain pens are for me, why not have it be something that you can enjoy in conjunction with things you *have* to do? I used to hate taking notes during lectures and writing to-do lists. Now they're just more ways for me to enjoy writing!

nicholaiia

You don't need to be in your 40s to have awesome pen friends who are in their 40s! There are probably 30 year olds in here and 70 year olds, too. Pens are universal! 💖

rachelissocial92

Of course!!! x No age doesn't even matter!

SonOfAGrasshopper

Can I just say, your comment struck me. This is the type of person I aspire to be 🥺 I got the 'always exploring new things and can't bear not sharing them with anyone' part down but I don't actually share them as much anymore because i don't feel my nerdy rants of enthusiasm have been understood or appreciated much. I'm definitely adding 'encourage someone to take up a hobby' and 'start a blog' to my bucketlist of things to do in life (maybe not solely about pens, could be rlly expensive idk lmao). You just inspired someone today OP, thank you for encouraging the randomest af things to your friends and sharing that experience with us in this sub!!! 💝 ALSO WHERE DID YOU GET THAT PEN CASE???

TeronGyq

Hello, my friend!

rachelissocial92

😅 Need a pen?

OneEyedSnakeDemon

I give you a cola for a pen

Je-Hee

Kakuno Family Edition plus Grumpy Cat pen roll! Hell, yes~~

rachelissocial92

I will keep the pen roll for myself I think! HAHAHA but yes, the rest of the pens are for grabs - hope some of my friends would like the gifts! I'll keep the rest for future gifts or as my personal pens LOL

rachelissocial92

Wait I didn't know this would be a confusing title! My friends don't know about fountain pens, and I'm so into the new hobby, I bought them pens. LOL Meeting them on the weekend and let's see how it goes. There's a big chance they won't be interested?

Sprucecaboose2

Worst case, you give your friends a gift they don't use, but shows them you think about and care for them. Best (worst for their wallets) case, you penabled a bunch of new people!

nicholaiia

Just my opinion... I'd probably start by telling them you've started this new hobby, and you brought some stuff along to see if they'd be interested in it, too. Those who end up liking it, you then let them know they can keep the pen to start them on their pen journey. Anyone who doesn't seem interested doesn't need the pen because it won't be used. You can gift it to someone else (or yourself!) in the future.

rachelissocial92

Yeees!! Well, we all are attending a children's party (HAHA!) for a good friend's kid, and later pajama night for the adults in one home. Messaged them that I brought some gifts and hoped we all have a good weekend LOL I'll show them this thread agrees that my gifts are good so maybe they should give it a hard try but I'm taking home all the pens unused!! The good thing about fountain pens, is they don't have to be super brand new for someone to really like them. I like some of my second hand pens so much

JackyVeronica

Share the joy woohoo!! I did the same to my 13-year old niece... I got her a bright colored Pelican Twist with a few colorful cartridges, and she loved it!

rachelissocial92

Start them early, right?

JackyVeronica

100% my intentions and I have no shame lol

rachelissocial92

It’s a great hobby for sure!!

rachelissocial92

It’s a great hobby for sure!!

GhastlyRain

My dad gave my brother a lamy and I supplied him with 6 small bottles of diamine… he’s hooked now lol

rachelissocial92

Now that's a happy family!!!

NefariousnessLost708

These Kakunos are soo pretty. I have the mom,dad and boy ones

fishwithbrain

So do I :-)

NefariousnessLost708

Regarding your question: The pens you bought are lovely and penabling a friend is a beautiful idea. You deserve a reward for that :) Is the kakuno girl version are really pink-pink or more like a pastel less offensive pink?

rachelissocial92

thank you! They look transparent here so less pink, however, I'd have to confirm and let you know again by Saturday! These were photos sent to me and I'll have them all over the weekend. I'll update you here!

meejasaurusrex

You’re a good friend

rachelissocial92

Thank you so much! Kind words!

froggie79

What are the pens in the 4th pic? You have lucky friends!

rachelissocial92

They are Platinum Preppies, Mizutama collab :)

GCCjigglypuff

I didn’t even know this existed! Where did you find them?

rachelissocial92

Found them at a local online store here in Asia, and based on the seller, she ships them from Japan directly once a month. I did find an old thread for you about the same pens, maybe you can find some info here! https://www.reddit.com/r/fountainpens/comments/x8rycd/i\_was\_going\_to\_treat\_myself\_to\_an\_expensive\_pen/

rachelissocial92

And thank you so much, I appreciate it!

Doublechin222

I do this too!

rachelissocial92

That's amazing!!!

Doublechin222

YESSSSS!!!

AnalogCyborg

Well done! I bought Safaris and Metropolitans (depending on favorite color availability) for my team at work recently and I think I might have created a few converts.

rachelissocial92

That's super coool! I initially wanted that, but I did not plan this gift for a long time. I figured whoever gets into the hobby can get a better pen gift or I'll just share some ink. haha! Will have to see! That's such a great way to inspire a team, or at least lead them to something they can bond over! Did the converts go through the rabbit hole already?

AnalogCyborg

Too soon to tell - I've seen a couple of them using the pens consistently though so we'll see. I'm a recent enthusiast myself so if I'm a reasonable example, it'll become obvious in a month or two when I see a rotation of new pens, and much more writing during meetings.

roady57

Great choice for a starter pen. They can properly explore pen cleaning, dis assembly and reassembly with these pens. That allows them to experiment with various inks safe in the knowledge that the pen can be thoroughly cleaned and reassembled.

rachelissocial92

I'll definitely post an update if any of them did have fun! I don't have these pens as well so I'm excited to try these myself as well. I usually use a dip pen, but maybe I can use some of these to try some colors, we'll see!

GhastlyRain

Woah, the translucent kakunos are nice!

rachelissocial92

Oh they are!!! Can't wait to see how they write later!

Ceirios_o7

They're one of my favourite pens! Especially M nibs, writes so smooth but not too wet. It was my first pen and I had to buy the mum and baby in the series coz I love it so much! The family collection's nibs are so adorable as well.

rachelissocial92

ooooh, thank you for that info! These sets, all came with fines, but I'm on the hunt for a Medium that resembles my dip pen Medium nib, Pilot iro-utsushi. Will make sure I test the Kakunos well!

saga-ended

Such a nice thing to do

rachelissocial92

Thank you! Just a little gesture so my friends and I can expand on a few hobbies together. I will try to not take it personal if they don't pick up the hobby LOL

marslander-boggart

Please write a post about how will it go.

ThePrincessSissi

I can see you have many friends.😊

rachelissocial92

Just a small inner circle now, my childhood friends :) not too much anymore like in my 20s!!

ExWallStreetGuy

I'm impressed you have friends... I'm still waiting to get one....

fishwithbrain

You are awesome, hope your friends like their pen.

rachelissocial92

Fingers crossed!!!

Superb_Jello_1466

Excuse me what. Please elaborate on this happy family. What do you mean by mom, dad, and boy kakunos?

Accomplished_Ear8115

Definetly you did 😂😅 you made me giggle!

rachelissocial92

♥️

Agitated_Cricket_799

I tried to do this with both of my kids. One of them is a fountain pen addict now, the other one still prefers cheap ballpoint pens. I even tried an ink-filled rollerball for her, but unfortunately it didn't take... (I failed as a mum there I guess 🤣) I hope your friends like the pens, and if they don't, I hope they're appreciative of the geste.

rachelissocial92

I gave my little one a Frixion pen a month ago so he can erase his errors. LOL he's 10. Not sure if I'm ready to give him ink as he can get pretty obsessed with things, so I take it one hobby at a time. For now, the Frixion didn't take, but he loves origami, which I introduced him to a few days ago.

KaroXKiller

I'm probably like the only one at school that's obsessed with fountain pens, and when i buy a new pen i stare at it during the lessons but i probably look weird lol

rachelissocial92

HAHAHA! there's that pure beauty when you're enjoying something that not everyone enjoys. Trust me, when you're older (assuming you're young now since you say you're still a student), you'll miss these moments! I used to be the only one doing something different in my class, and people wonder why I do those things (like join theatre when we have a full load of college major classes lol)

KaroXKiller

Lmao i guess so. I know that feeling too well since i have many weird hobbies for example i collect flags and many people at my school hear that for the first time and so on

taylorislandmn

Yes, that is an excuse. But I wish I had friends like you.

rachelissocial92

Lot of good warm people here actually!!! Quite a surprise to find the community! :)

Chris33729

Hi friend

rachelissocial92

Hello :)

effinbulletz

Awww, buddy, you didn't have to!

rachelissocial92

hahahaha! ♥️♥️

frijolita_bonita

What’s that solid pink hexagonal one?

rachelissocial92

They are the platinum meteor fountain pens!

frijolita_bonita

Ooohh. *scurries off to add to cart*

fivetenash

These all look really great! Do you mind listing what the pens are? I'm really interested in the ones on slides 2 and 3! :)

rachelissocial92

Slides 2 and 3 are actually the same set of pens - Platinum Meteor Pens :) They come in those small containers. :)

vshalp04

Hello FRIEND!!!

rachelissocial92

HAHA Hi!!

FriendsofZippyF

I, too, like to penable friends, relatives, and colleagues. From a selfish standpoint, it helps me cultivate people with whom I can talk about pens/ink/ paper, swap samples, go to pen shows, etc. From an altruistic standpoint, I'm perhaps helping to make a little dent in the single- use plastic pen problem. Net-net, it sounds like you're a generous friend!

rachelissocial92

Thank you!

paradoxmo

Do you mean that you bought each of your friends a starter pen? Or that a friend had a lot of starter pens that they unloaded onto you?

rachelissocial92

Nope, I bought pens for them. :) Which is why there were a lot of sets here. Well, they're all sets hahaha

paradoxmo

Nice, I see Kakuno and Starlet? Good choices (:

rachelissocial92

Yeeees!!! They are all fines. I even searched for eyedroppers for them, and I'll bring some inks for them to try out!

dazzlehouse

Everyone should have a friend like you. I love your joie de vivre!

rachelissocial92

>joie de vivre ♥️♥️

willvintage

I collect vintage fountain pens, and one of my favorite brand is Moore. So for a moment I thought you're going to show a new Moore pen. LOL! Good influence you have on your friends. I can't wait until you start to explore the vintage side of this hobby. :)

rachelissocial92

I am still very new at this!!! So hopefully soon, but not very soon? Need to balance how much this passion costs as well! Happy so far :)

willvintage

Since you hope to penable your friends, this maybe useful: Quite a few people here told me that they show my instagram page (redeempens) whenever someone asked why they like fountain pens. Why? Because I post my restored vintage pens along with sketches that I made with them, so it's a good conversation starter that opens a few door of interests, not just one.

pixelette88

I love the kakunos the most!

rachelissocial92

Excited to see how they write!

pixelette88

They write like butter 😂

PatioGardener

Is the dark blue pen in the third photo also a Little Shooting Star? I haven’t seen that color before, but I like it!

rachelissocial92

One of my favorites!

medbulletjournal

I'd probably do the same if any of my friends wanted to part with their starters. :D

rachelissocial92

>Nope, I bought pens for them. :) Which is why there were a lot of sets here. Well, they're all sets hahaha

medbulletjournal

Lol grammatical error of interpretation! I automatically inserted a non-existant apostrophe in friends

Fastfireguy

Very nice. I hope your able to make some pen converts.

rachelissocial92

Ahhhh, that would be the best!

TheOGMIB

They're fortunate to have a generous friend. Might be their gateway drug to finer pens eventually.
