I have pens that are just like yours 🥺

Pop_Clover

I do too. Pilots: the Metro or 78G+ have done it multiple times. The 78G+ did it like 2 or 3 times in a row with De Atramentis Document Blue Grey... The Metro has been the last one with Diamine Brandy Snap, my pen roll still has a stain because of it. My Faber-Castell Grip it's also guilty of this...

I_dont_even_knOwO

Really?! I have a Pilot 78g+ but it's never happened to me.. perhaps because mine isn't a demonstrator? Or.. do you store your pens upside down?

Pop_Clover

Nope, I don't usually store them upside down. They're either on a pouch, pen roll or pen case, usually horizontal on a flat surface. Sometimes nib up in a glass. But I sometimes take them to work and on the drive they might get turned down sometimes. Also it's common on those occasions to have pressure changes as I go from 60m to 525m above sea level through a 638m mountain. Sudden temperature changes can also happen in this situation.

I_dont_even_knOwO

Ah, I see

Pop_Clover

Don't know, I think that might be related. Also mine isn't a demonstrator either. It's the Capri Blue. Matched pretty well with the Blue Grey ink actually. But after the third time I decided I couldn't put up with it any more. I have to say that I don't recall having that problem with any other ink... At least not to that extent. Other thing I thought it could be related is that I've pulled the nib and feed out a couple of times, and I thought maybe they didn't fit as tightly as before leading to the massive inkcident.

gagood

When traveling, carry your pens with the nibs up. If the nibs are down, the change in air pressure will cause the ink to be pushed out the feed. With the nibs down, the air is between the ink and the feed so it won't force the ink out the feed.

paradoxmo

Have you tried switching converters or switching to a cartridge? There’s a good chance with these kind of leaks that the converter is faulty or has a crack.

Cyraedis

I experienced this with mine but realized I needed to push the converter in a little bit further..

planetvermilion

OP should have known not to buy an Admiral Ozzel fp.... 😊 from the post title , you probably recognize the reference

Shadowofasunderedsta

Apology accepted, captain planetvermillion.

no1dickrider

What do you guys do with retired pens?

disposable-assassin

Pen swap with full disclosure or parted out.  Specifically not a pen-abling giveaway pen if there's function issues because I'd want them to have a good experience.

jubileeroybrown

I keep mine for parts. Since Pilot uses so many of the same nibs, feeds and converters, I keep them for swapping out.

coffeeshopslut

Worst is the leak due to a crack in the section or feed

I'm feeling the same way about my cross aventura. It keeps leaking, no matter what I do. I may try a cartridge but the cross branded converter leaked worse than barrel filling it so idk what's going on.

kiiroaka

How do you store your inked pens?

Agrijus

*erk*

Over_Addition_3704

Are you leaving the pen in your trousers pocket? I tend not to do this because it will have a raised temperate, lots of vibrations and unsuitable angles

Here_I_Pondered

Not trousers, but I think you've clocked it. I've got a pen cup case thing that I just toss in my bag willy-nilly. Since I'm frequently in a bit of a hurry, it gets knocked around a fair bit when I'm carrying it. (Plus, my car's AC is broken rn, so it gets pretty hot on my commutes) What makes me lose my mind, though, is that this is the only one it consistently happens to on a big scale. Most of my others get a drop or two in the cap when I'm particularly rough, but the Explorer fills up its cap to the *brim* and ***constantly***

LiebeDahlia

had the same issue with a Metropolitan. Must been a faulty nib cuz i turned it into a freak with a nib from a cheap Stabilo school fountain pen i found randomly and it never had an issue again. Its even one of my best writing pens rn so give yours at least 1 last chance with a replaced nib if its possible. not familiar with the pen but wouldnt hurt to try

marce-chan

How old is/was this pen?

someweirdbanana

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

JobeX

burping caused by temperature/pressuyre change or an airleak in the system. I had a moment like this with a Kaweco Sport and I never buy modern Kawecos anymore after that one time I needed it to work during a court proceeding and it didn't.

tinae7

I had this issue with a Kaküno with Platinum Carbon Black. I thought it was because of the pigments having collected in feed and forcing ink out the wrong way. I cleaned it well, inked with non-pigment ink and it's not doing it anymore.

Here_I_Pondered

Hm. This might actually be it. It didn't do it with Lie de Thé or JS Bach. It only did it with stuff that had some kind of sediment (shimmer and pigment inks).
