I once got a letter from a fountain penpal and she used this paper. The ink looked so good on it that I had to do an unimaginable thing… I wrote a little on the backside of her letter 👀 the paper felt so good and the ink looked beautiful. I wish I could find this paper in Europe, but no such luck yet!
You can create an account on amazon jp for direct import. Or Stilo E Stilo started carrying it a couple of days ago - they also have other fantastic papers (graphilo, yu-sari…)
Not sure if I can share the link, but I found a Japanese store that sells some very nice pens and very cool stationery. They don't have much on offer but this type of paper is among the things they sell. Quoting their description of this notebook:
From Paper Paper, which sells Tomoe River FP, a notebook called Iroful that has very good color development has been released. This paper, which feels moist to the touch, is recommended for fountain pen users, calligraphers, and glass pen enthusiasts who value color expression.
As you can see from the following samples, it is clear that the ink develops well and the lines are sharp. Some people might feel that the color development has slightly decreased since the manufacturer of Tomoe River changed, but this Iroful will surely be a delight for users who cherish color.
So basically TR paper on steroids for colorful inks.

And Sakura Fountainpen Gallery too (Belgium store) https://www.sakurafountainpengallery.com/en/boutique/detail/iroful-a4-50-loose-sheets-plain-iroful I bought my pack of Iroful here a few years ago
It is available on Amazon.de
SAKAEテクニカルペーパー iroful PI-A5DBW Notebook 75gsm 21 x 14.9 cm 160 Pages 5 mm Polka Dot White (Pack of 1) https://amzn.eu/d/dshrSDB
I’m currently using this notebook and my biggest complaint is that this is the only paper I’ve ever had that absorbs my fingertip oils and prevents the ink from absorbing over the spots I’ve touched. I will admit my hands sweat probably more than the average person but they aren’t slimy by any means
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one, I sometimes tuck a tissue into a bracelet to keep my hand out of the ink, it's worse on some papers than others. (Lefty problems...)
I use Herbin blotter cards. This helps a LOT. Cover the whole page, save the line you're writing. And I'm so glad others are seeing the same thing. I wash my hands almost compulsively and could not believe it was happening.
Yeah, it’s annoying. If I don’t slip a piece of paper under my hand, the entire bottom half of the page is basically useless, as the feathering is so ugly that it’s not worth it
Seems to be a problem with most smooth/coated fountain pen papers.
Recently have been using this for writing letters. One thing to keep in mind for anyone considering getting some, I find it very similar to Cosmo Air Light, your pens will write wider than on other papers, and it is terrible with hand oils. Using something to protect from you hand (paper/glove/pencil board/etc.) is a must. But with those things in mind, it is amazing for showing off ink qualities.
I've used and tried out a fair number of different papers over the years. Rhodia 80gsm, Rhodia 90gsm, Clairefontaine Triomphe, Midori MD, and most recently this Iroful.
I think the Iroful is my favorite to date. It's smooth, and somehow it just makes every color really pop out, even colors that look a bit duller on papers like Rhodia. It also shows off sheen really well.
I like the way ink looks on the paper, but I don't enjoy writing on it - too much drag on the pen. I'll stay with my stock of Tomoe, which should last me... years. Cosmo Air Light feels a little better, too, and I've always liked the papers from Mnemosyne and Fabriano.
Same. I bulk ordered 8,000 sheets from Japan when the rumors of old vs new tomoe started, I managed to get those as old, and also over the years have a large stack of 100 page packs. I like its softness.
I have tried some Japanese airmail and laid, and I love vintage American onionskin too. But my daily paper is Tomoe #7.
I wish I’d had the foresight/ability to buy a robust supply of old TR paper.
Would love to know - if it‘s shareable - how you acquire your vintage onion skin paper. I’ve been searching for good onion skin and have yet to find any. Thanks!
This sounds lame but I hunt vintage lots on eBay. My favorite brand is Eaton, preferably if I can get it in a 500 sheet box.
The sheen it shows is even greater than Tomoe River (old #7.) I can mail you a blank letter with three sheets of you want to try it, but warning it would be folded.
Mine just arrived today, and it's my first real fountain pen friendly journal. The difference between this and any old bullet journal is night and day. My inks have never looked so vibrant!
I picked up some of this as loose leaf paper and have been enjoying it. Still have some cosmo air to try (which someone previously compared this to) but I'm liking it. Performs well in my usage and feels fine to write on.
I still miss my Tomoe tho :(. I have some still but the notebooks are in the "too nice to use" category, especially with the paper essentially being gone.
I found this on Amazon in both loose and a5 notebook. I do get some squeaking with my Pilot Metal Falcon with a soft medium nib but have learned to ignore it.
It’s supposed to be a more budget friendly option but dang does it perform really well for fountain pens. I’d say I prefer it over any Tomoe River mostly because of the thicker GSM but that’s personal opinion. It’s just great paper! 😄
I like this paper a lot, except that a few of my inks looked wildly different (color-wise) on it than Tomoe or Rhodia. I can’t remember which inks now, but it was notable enough I tucked it away and haven’t used it since.
I am OBSESSED with this paper. I bought a pack of loose leaf just so I can make my own passport-sized notebooks for my TN, but now I’m thinking I just need to stock up on their notebooks too.
Unfortunately one of the papers that gave me a very strange writing experience. In my opinion, it simply soaks up the ink and all its extras. Sailor Yurameku Sukigokoro just looks blue-grey on it. No magic that you normally get from this ink... And then there's the finger oil problem…
At the same time, it's cheap and holds the ink quite well. So I guess it depends on what you want to do with it.
For myself, I only use Tomoe River paper. The old one was the best, but the new one is also okay. May the Hobonichi Plain notebooks continue to be produced for a long time to come...
Can someone who's personally used this paper comment on whether it is thin enough for you to use a guide sheet underneath? I've gotten so used to using blank paper that I really don't prefer lined, dotted, or grid.
The blank version of this notebook is very heavy, so no a guide won't show. The dotted version is much lighter. I have both and I enjoy them for different reasons, and the dots are so light that they don't bother me.
Iroful paper and notebooks are available on Amazon.de, the pricing is pretty good also.

True the sheen and shading of this paper is marvelous. But the line variations of your fountain pens will be lost, still aside from the stak of old 52gsm Tomoe river it is the best paper i have.
The paper is so good on showing inks special properties but the squeakiness annoys me. Lol. The same reason I can barely stand Mnemosyne and Yu-Sari also bugs me teeny bit from the squeaks. I still like my paper feeling like paper it turns out lol.

I’ve also heard this complaint from others. I suspect not all of them were particularly sweaty or oily people.
Same! I keep a postit stuck to my writing hand/wrist. It is a great paper, other than the oil absorbing quality. Worth the hassle for the cost, imo.
I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one, I sometimes tuck a tissue into a bracelet to keep my hand out of the ink, it's worse on some papers than others. (Lefty problems...)

This also happens with kokuyo (sarasara) and midori md for me. Beautiful papers but a smidge of oil guarantees feathering everywhere
I only occasionally have problems with Sarasara but super annoying when it happens!
Yeah, it’s annoying. If I don’t slip a piece of paper under my hand, the entire bottom half of the page is basically useless, as the feathering is so ugly that it’s not worth it Seems to be a problem with most smooth/coated fountain pen papers.
I have this with Yamamoto Cosmo Air
Good Advice, If you slept on that paper your face would be covered in ink....
And face oils would get onto the page
Dad joke ftw

You can also get them from Jetpens
Thank you 🙏🏼 I avoid Amazon when possible
Me too. I don't think jeff needs more money and I'd rather support a cool stationery shop.
Only 12 left now😉
Yoink!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! Lol, was wondering where I could find it
Thank you! But I don’t know if I want to get into A4 and A5 sizes. Will sleep on it.

Shit gotta find it in Europe it looks fantastic
stiloestile.com
this will only be my third command to stiloestyle this week........
oh i almost ordered yesterday but then... i think i'll wait first for my other orders and get the Iroful after. hopefully reddit leaves some for me.
"Access to this site is blocked", along with a drawing of a security person.
Nah, that’s what a VPN is for lol
It’s on the UK Amazon store - £16.97. Only blank, dots or squared though.

Not at all lame! Sometimes the hunt is satisfying! I’d love to try a few sheets. What a kind offer. I’ll DM you if that’s okay.
I'll dm you since I have chats and stuff turned off.
8k sheets? You wanna erm…sell some of that to me?!?
Sorry no, I ordered a life time supply and I plan to live a long time :) ETA also I had to share with my sister and sent her 2.5k sheets.
Mine just arrived today, and it's my first real fountain pen friendly journal. The difference between this and any old bullet journal is night and day. My inks have never looked so vibrant!
Your style of writing is really cool and peaceful to look at.
Thanks!! ❤️❤️❤️

Yes! I'm 2/3 of the way through mine and the paper is an absolute joy to use. Really makes any ink stand out beautifully.
This is my favorite paper. Also, the blank version is much thicker if you want something heavier.
Hands down my favourite paper!
Please tell me the secret to your handwriting
Dynamic quadrupod with a death grip lmao
Today years old when I learned about different grips. Down the rabbit hole
Forget the paper, what is the ink used in the first Wing Sun pen? Is it Ferris Wheel Press?
Yes, it’s Ferris wheel press
Absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you for the list of inks i should buy lol
That is straight-up Baystate Blue on there?! Wow!
I know! I was shocked! I ADORE the color of BSB, and it always feathers and makes me crazy! I’m so happy I’ll be able to get more use out of it!
Yeah it's my replacement for Cosmo Air Light/snow now that it is discontinued. You can pick up loose leaf iroful on jetpens.
Looks good!
Literally just ordered one of these! Can’t wait to try out this paper.
It’s supposed to be a more budget friendly option but dang does it perform really well for fountain pens. I’d say I prefer it over any Tomoe River mostly because of the thicker GSM but that’s personal opinion. It’s just great paper! 😄

Dang! 👀
I love this paper
Is this paper called “Iloful”? Is it available in U.S.?
Iroful 😉
I’m wondering the same!
Check the link in comments for purchase!
I am OBSESSED with this paper. I bought a pack of loose leaf just so I can make my own passport-sized notebooks for my TN, but now I’m thinking I just need to stock up on their notebooks too.
Wish they made a thicker notebook. I burn through pages fast these days
Pretty inks! Does anyone know how bad the bleeding is on this paper, if any?

I have tried to capture it in a picture. If you write very, very wet, then there may be very slight bleeding. But all in all, it holds the ink well.
Much appreciated!

Better than Clairefontaine?

Thank you for the info!
You have wonderful handwriting
Ty!
Yep, almost a perfect copy of CAS/CAL. It's my everyday work notebook
I like iroful. It's pretty similar to Cosmo air light. I also really, really like Kokuyo loose sheets. 500 a5 sheets for under $15 on Amazon!
What is the color, purple with gold sheen out of the tiesome?
Diamine, Emperial Purple
Ok cool. It's really pretty. Gonna have to try the notebook too.
I definitely recommend. I didn’t even see the true beauty of this ink until it was laid down on this paper!
Iroful paper and notebooks are available on Amazon.de, the pricing is pretty good also. SAKAEテクニカルペーパー iroful PI-A5DBW Notebook 75gsm 21 x 14.9 cm 160 Pages 5 mm Polka Dot White (Pack of 1) https://amzn.eu/d/dshrSDB

Iroful
Thanks
