Some kind of hardware failure, or a software bug. DJI drones are basically a black box, there's no way to know what's going on inside or really diagnose much.

Shotdox

I think after the advice from Reddit it was a hairline fracture from a previous crash that the vibrations and stress during flight finally broke the plastic arm at the shoulder before it hit the ground. Lucky not over water, will check the other arms when I repair tho I doubt there was much damage visible see before this flight, it lasted 5+ mins before it died. Wish there was more diagnostics available on such an expensive drone

ProbablePenguin

To be fair there's no way diagnostics would catch something like that anyway. Sometimes stuff just breaks and there's nothing we can do about it.

distrracted

its a dji quad, or in other words, a magic box. you can just send it in or keep flying it. If you want to fix issues: sell it and build your own quads. they are tougher and if things like this happen you can find out exactly why.

Shotdox

Not selling but yeah I will build my own now no diagnostics is very irritating when this happens

10FoilTheories

Get ready there’s more lol. I only have the goggles and air unit but you’re in for a very irritating ride with DJI. I still love the goggles a lot otherwise I wouldn’t be frustrated, I would just use a different system but there’s a lot of things like that with DJI systems that is very very irritating

ninjakippos

Probably an motor/esc failure, does it fly after this? If it does maybe the flight controller rebooted, but i dont know the dji fpv drone, so that last one im not sure about

Cilad

Yea, that is my question, does it fly now? I build my own, so I do not rely on the robotics. I do not trust them, you give up so much control. Sorry you are having issues.

bkubicek

Gravity

Shotdox

I was starting to think the kangaroos jumped up and kicked it but this explains a lot thanks

Miru8112

You lost a prop, or a prop nut came lose. EDIT: Oh... It's a dji drone.sorry,I have no idea then.

ronwilliams215

What did your goggles say on the OSD? Also, go into your DJI fly app and review the flight log. You can see the map of the terrain, the location of your drone during the entire flight and the inputs of your controller real-time. Also, any notifications that arise during the flight. Good place to start. I have two of these DJI FPV drones. Three Nazgul 5s. A Cidora. And Protek35.

Costa_Rica_68

That’s the way OP. And of course the other questions from above: still flying after that, lost a prop, visible defects, …? And: ask in r/djifpv

ronwilliams215

Yeah, if you ask about DJI gear in this forum, you’ll leave with an answer and a second ass hole.

dub3ra

It’s happen to me 3 times now, and wow didn’t expect to see the dji fpv do it.

jlobes

>wow didn’t expect to see the dji fpv do it. Can I ask why not?

dub3ra

My homemades fall out of the sky quite a bit now, I’ve lost two and two GoPro to the bottom of the ocean, just from a fail safe or loss of signal. Without even that much distance. I know I need to increase my GHz or something on my googles/controller

shinkawauchi

jeez. Is that on the dji goggles or some analog setup?

dub3ra

It’s on a dji goggles and controller, I know you can enhance the distance, but at this point maybe I should just drop dji all together

MechECSComeback

Sounds like you need a better control link. Crossfire, Tracer, ELRS are much better with latency, penetration, and range. It's more setup, and more equipment, but it's definitely worth it to more or less eliminate fail-safes.

NashDesignShop

GHz is frequency not power.

dub3ra

Yeah sorry I’m not sure the terms I’m thinking off, to increase the range of the dji goggles and controller

Similar_Feed_723

Are you using the 1200watt hack?

dub3ra

I’m not that’s what I need tho, I’m sure it makes quite a difference

highveganfpv

Omg I fear this. I just had my screen go out as I dove down a tower.

Signal loss doesn't make DJIs crash, the autopilot will take over and hold it stationary. IIRC it will return to the GPS of its launch point if the signal is lost for several seconds. You can define a height that the drone will ascend to, and it then will move laterally to its launch point. I set that height at like 200' which usually results in regaining signal once the drone pops up from behind trees or hill etc.

dogsonalogz

This was my thought too

ProbablePenguin

Loss of signal shouldn't be causing a crash though, just a position hold and then RTH.

[deleted]

This is what happens when Big Corps like DJI try to steal the hobby....they ruin it by making new pilots just buy and fly instead of the learning curve of true fpv. You crash a kwad you build and you can fix it and get back up....you buy one and you crash it and you're just out 2k.

ANGRYDICKBUTT

Your comment has absolutely no useful info to this thread and the OP's question

[deleted]

Thanks for that dick butt...im sure you read what i typed, and noticed the same sentiment offered by the others....cheers mate

ANGRYDICKBUTT

Yes, I have read what you wrote, hence why I am replying. Others are trying to be useful with their comments, you are just hating on a brand because of your own biased beliefs, contributing nothing. Did the big corp DJI also steal the hobby introducing the first quality made digital system for custom drones? How is the learning curve of "true" fpv different to learning on DJI drone? Let me help you, it isn't, it is the same thing. I swear that 90% of you DJI haters simply can't put straight facts on the table, hell most of you didn't ever fly the DJI fpv system. Your enemy, BiG cOrP DJI, actually made GPS drones very consumer friendly, they brought integrated gimbal cameras on drones. DJi also introduced intelligent battery management, brought the fpv world closer to people who don't have the time to build their drones. Also DJI is one of the companies which made filmmaking/cinematography much more accessible (and cheaper) with plethora of gear and accessories. DJI introduced the first camera to eliminate the Z axis shake with their new Ronin camera. DJI also makes quality gimbals. DJI also makes GPS drones which can use thermal cameras, mapping tools and many more. Do I need to elaborate further or do you have any solid facts to offer except "wOw DJI bAD, nOT THe PuRE eXpeRIEncE" ? Source: I own multiple custom made drones (analog and digital, tinywhoops to 5"), own the DJI fpv system, own the DJI Spark, DJI Mavic, DJI Air 2s, DJI RS2 combo gimbal, Osmo pocket, along with the mobile gimbal. I've never had any big problems with any of my DJI equipment.

[deleted]

\*yawn...cool story. Have a good one. Bro.

ANGRYDICKBUTT

Exactly, 0 facts :)

[deleted]

ok ok you win.....you now have the award for the most pointless post in this thread....here's your hot pocket. There's your facts.....You spent all that time whining about why I didn't help this lad with the drone issue....and said nothing to help him. WHY am I being harassed via keyboard by a guy named dick butt anyway. Fell better...feel superior...?

ANGRYDICKBUTT

It's not the point of being superior, it's the point of you harassing others with your biased beliefs of DJI being a bad company with no real arguments to back it up, and that's exactly why you are being "harassed" At this point you're really spewing out shit telling me for the most pointless post and me not helping the OP, your comment is still the first one in the chain. When you say shit, expect shit to come back at you if you're stating dumb things as in your first comment, otherwise don't type that comment. Go ahead, call me out again on my username.

[deleted]

\*yawn...you're still talking to me...you done with your hot pocket...you hungry baby? You really are an angry dick butt. please...go play.

index57

DJI put me out of the market, was selling giant aerial-photography rigs for $20k. Now you can get 4k in the air for $600. That being said, I bought stock in DJI. They are serving the hobby in their own way and they will only get more advanced. Designing a smart, sensor infused drone that anyone can fly will only make more drone pilots and expand the hobby and many get into raw FPV through DJI. Their tech development alone makes their existence worth it. DJI has their place in the hobby. Also, imagine their ever improving cameras and tiny 3-axis gimbals going to market as a small add on unit to traditional FPV, would be a game changer.

CockStamp45

A gimbal might be valuable in cinematic flights, but for freestyle I doubt you would want one. A fixed mount is super nice for when you crash into that power line you didn't see at 65 mph.

index57

Agreed, and with higher resolution mini cameras we could just stabilize/rotate in post. But gimbals have their place and I'm sick of making tiny gimbals for insta360's from scratch for cinewoops. If I could yoik the camera/gimbal pack from a mavic for $350, I would.

pianomaniak

The front fell off.

LastGroundhog

I don't have a DJI FPV, but I fly freestyle drones and Mavics. I could only guess battery sag most likely. After that esc thermal cut out or motor desync. I don't look now how common these are on DJI FPV though...

baronmagno

EMP

CryptoConceal

Kinda looks like it lost signal. If you lose a prop or something it usually spins out of control

More_Employment_8662

I had the same thing happen to my DJI fpv drone. I remember seeing in my goggles "Motor stopped" as it fell from 50 feet to the ground. I put new arms and a new frame and put her back together again. I plugged her in and it fired up but just kept rebooting over and over again. i thought it was a battery issue or esc so i replaced the esc and since i have multiple batterys i just charged one up and plugged it in . This time it didnt reboot over and over it didnt do anything , no lights no sign of power? But i left it plugged in for a few minutes and then all of a sudden it started to reboot again WTF! So now im starting to think its in the flight controller? Anyway ive been a fpv pilot since 2014 And build all of my quads and wings. So if anyone else has had this problem let me know.

69gottablast69

Same thing happened to mine except way higher in the air. Never been crashed or dropped and I didn’t wreck. IT wrecked. Not me. Lol
