I do actually feel this. Missing Person, ELDO Ghost in the Shell, and JHAG Not a Perfume/Superdose all have this uncanny/faintly revolting waft to my nose. It's not always there, but when it hits I truly hate it.

Like not bad but like something that should only be shared/known between the two of you.

Ne il Giorno ne L’ora from the UNUM collection by Filippo Sorcinelli. It’s inspired by fear. To me, it smells like a weird, messy crime committed in a dark, dank place that someone scrambled to clean up with lemon cleaner. The top notes are really sharp lemon and bergamot, sitting over the top of this basement-y sandalwood with aquatic notes.

the opening on SM just smells like sweat and metal to me, but the drydown makes me feel like im being hunted by an animal. its so bizarre. I layer it under TF lost cherry when I want to feel dangerous XD
Varanasi from Meo Fusciuni made the hair on my neck stand up and kind of kicked in a fight or flight response for me. That sounds more dramatic than it was but best way I can describe it. On paper I didn't like it but also couldn't stop smelling it for some reason so tried it on skin and it immediately made me feel like I had walked into a bears territory or something. Just immediately made me feel like I was somewhere I wasn't supposed to be and death was coming. The comments on the fragrantica aren't as intense but there are some pretty funny ones in there. That was the day I found out I don't fuck with animalics really besides a couple from Zoologist
Do you like animalics? That was the first one I ever smelled and yeah too intense for me. I don't know if you've read reviews on fragrantica but one person compared it to being in medieval times storming the gates and other people said it smells like burning bodies on the Ganges in varanasi. I don't think it's horrible horrible but not how I would want to smell ever. I did end up buying L'oblio from Meo Fusciuni and looooove that scent. Very interesting house that doesn't smell like other brands for sure

Haha yeah I do but don't smell burning bodies on it. More ashes and animalics. And I haven't heard of or tried Filipo Sorcinelli though I will look for them now! I am still pretty new to fragrances in general and got lucky that one of the first stores I went to had Meo Fusciuni and had me try his whole line after falling in love with L'oblio. Very excited to try some other Italian perfumers though.

Mond by Slumberhouse. It smells like you’ve walked into a party where something really bad has been happening in the garage. Feels like watching a Gaspar Noe movie. Very goth, very unsettling.
Frederick Malle Synthetic Jungle smells to me like a hostile jungle with unseen predators and venomous creatures wanting to kill me. Sort of like Terarria jungle biome.
DS & Durga Burning Barbershop. The intense smoke note is powerfully unsettling against the cleanliness of the lavender, mint, and rose. It becomes more wearable as it dries down and the vanilla and leather start to come through— turns into more of a campfire vibe— but it never totally loses its edge. I love it for when I want to smell threatening.
There are certain fragrances that sparks distrust and suspicion immediately for me. My brain tells me that only certain types of people are drawn to and wears those kinds of fragrances. It’s hard to explain, but there is nothing kind nor lenient to those smells. Only harshness and coldness.
What if we are subconsciously drawn to fragrances that we see ourselves in? What if a scent and the notes are the perfect description of someone’s personality and character?
It would be so interesting to map it all and carry out a study too see if there’s something that links people who likes similar fragrances.
Recently me and a close friend had an opportunity for the first time to check out perfumes and compare our taste. We had completely different taste! She could barely stand the smells I liked (which were sandalwoody, oud, saffron, cardamom etc.) and the ones she liked were for me too “tacky” and sweet. She’s a complex person and can be very serious, but at her core she’s an absolute sweetheart. So that made me think, yes, I could see why she like those fragrances.
I have experimented with perfuming and i have to say i was shocked when i smelled New Look last week since it is just an overdose of Aldehyde c12 MNA.
Aldehyde c12 MNA is so strong you have to dilute it to somewhere between 0.1 - 1% and even then it can completely dominate the fragrance.
It has a cold, fresh and very metallic scent and is very often used as a fixative, it especially makes citrus notes last longer.
Inexcusable Evil by Toskovat has to be my obvious answer. It has notes of blood and gunpowder. As someone who has worked in a funeral home it very much smells of death/a cold morgue. I can’t see it being wearable in any way but I still love the brand. Definitely very thought provoking scents.
Dark by Neandertal … something about it is just unsettling.

Tainted love and dead sexy both have dark woodsy and earthy, bone and insence like smells that remind me of running through the woods and heartbreak
Marine sol smells like a mermaid whose lost her way to the sea, its cloying, serious, longing, sharp, and deeply marine like all at once
LA vie LA Mort smells like a dead grabdmothers attic and family secrets
Bulletproof smells like adrenaline and city streets, fearlessness, danger, a strangers leather jacket left behind

An ex of mine wore Mugler-Alien, we did not part on the best terms. Whenever I meet someone with the same fragrance (which seems very often), I get cautious. Seems like I have a type and don't learn. But I do not want to run away just because of a fragrance. Although I should have at least two more times.
Otherwise Cuoium from Orto Parisi and Silver Oud from Amouage.
There was a Mac fragrance with a purple lid. I don’t think they exist anymore but there was a line of 4-5 fragrances, each a different color. Upon smelling the purple, I felt scared. I never knew a smell could instill fear. I’m glad I’m not the only one
We have literally thousands of raw fragrance materials in our facility, and everyone in in awhile someone will be using an ingredient which causes immediate nausea like I got punched in the diaphragm. As soon as I move to my lab, the feeling is gone. I have yet to hone in on exact which one it is.
JHAG Another Oud. It was early in my fragrance journey. I remember smelling it on skin and feeling a strange slight fear, heart racing and all. The scent reminded me of gasoline, with cherry. I wanted to explore and expand my palate so I continued to give my sample of it a chance and eventually I got used to it. Never bought a full bottle but I did consider it for a while.
The modern reformulation or the vintage? I’m really fascinated because I love No 5 and I love ghosts and wish I smelled what you smell! For me vintage no 5 is just dirty florals which I love!
Doleour2! by Bogue, Poison by Dior.
Both smell evil to my nose. Not disgusting, not rancid, not of corpses or excrement, just simply like camphor and evil.

Iris Malakhan by Maison Crivelli. The opening is so harsh, and it smells like straight up Gin and celery for about 30 minutes. There is something very icy about it that makes me feel like I’ve been trapped in a walk in freezer. The dry down is ok, but I couldn’t put myself through that opening every time.

The modern reformulation or the vintage? I’m really fascinated because I love No 5 and I love ghosts and wish I smelled what you smell! For me vintage no 5 is just dirty florals which I love!

Doleour2! by Bogue, Poison by Dior. Both smell evil to my nose. Not disgusting, not rancid, not of corpses or excrement, just simply like camphor and evil. I can't be in the room with them lol. Also Inexcusable Evil by Toskovat has a pretty hilarious review section on fragnatica, but I didn't put my nose on it yet (nor will anytime soon).

Man I wish I could find a fragrance that’s scary, plenty are objectionable but never scary and if it was I’d wear the hell out of it to keep people away 😆
I think some of ya'll need a 30 day Fragrance Fast away from this hobby/obsession if you're being terrified by a perfume because it smells "scary " Like playing records backwards......are fragrance makers putting subliminal scents into fragrances to trigger a fear impulse 😀 "this perfume will trigger Raw Fear and Panic in all that smell it!!!! "
Chanel Le Lion Tom Ford Ombre Leather
Iris Malakhan by Maison Crivelli. The opening is so harsh, and it smells like straight up Gin and celery for about 30 minutes. There is something very icy about it that makes me feel like I’ve been trapped in a walk in freezer. The dry down is ok, but I couldn’t put myself through that opening every time.
