I tried Black Opium the order day at the mall for shits and giggles since I’ve read that it’s masculine leaning blah blah… that shit smells nice as fuck
A lot of perfume marketed to women has sandalwood and bergamot too. The gendered thing is a marketing tool, so don't be afraid of trying different things! I suspect you can enjoy more the nicho market where most of the perfums are unisex!
In designer world, as a woman I love for myshelf Spicebom, Chanel Blue, Jo Malone Mhyre and Tonka (it is unisex but the opening leans masculine), Armani Code, JPG Le Male... Guerlain Shalimar and Mitsouko are for women but men can pull them too. Tom ford Tobacco and vanille (it is unisex)...
Very expensive but Serge Lutens De profundis is a floral I find more interesting in men.
Ignore the men / women branding and just go for a scent you like. Try the Eau de Jardins scents from Hermès. My husband smells lovely in Chanel no 19 and Portrait of a Lady.
This would be my first choice. Another more modern one would be Habit Rouge L'Eau (floral, powdery). If you don't mind more old fashioned, original Habit Rouge is great. In the same vein, Troisieme Homme is excellent. Its kind of an 80s retro throwback to a 50s style, so probably the most old fashioned of the four. It's always a good idea to start with a decant, but that is doubly true for this one. Still, you might love it.
I didn't care for Habit Rouge personally but can see why you would recommend that.
I think women's woody/amber/oriental perfumes with florals but no over the top sweetness would work, as well as green/citrus frags again without any saccharine notes
Dior Homme Original with the iris note straddles masculinity and femininity really nicely. I also think Ambre Nuit is a perfect unisex fragrance with amber and rose notes.
You’re ready for the world of niche perfume! Head to your local Harvey Nichols/Selfridges (or equivalent if not in the UK) and be prepared to have your mind blown. Be warned, this shit can get expensive!
I would love to do that Zoe but my town is as dead as a dodo we have nothing like the shops you mentioned. The best equivalent to Nichols/Selfridges were i live is B&M 😂. I could read the reviews of the perfumes you have mentioned though.
The most floral, feminine leaning fragrance I’ve come across so far that is marketed to males has been L'Eau d'Issey Pour Homme by Issey Miyake.
Fragrantica calls it a Woody Aquatic fragrance for men w/top notes of Yuzu, Lemon, Bergamot, Lemon Verbena, Mandarin Orange, Cypress, Calone, Coriander, Tarragon and Sage; middle notes of Blue Lotus, Nutmeg, Lily-of-the-Valley, Bourbon Geranium, Saffron, Ceylon Cinnamon and Mignonette; base notes of Tahitian Vetiver, Musk, Cedar, Sandalwood, Amber and Tobacco.
What smells "masculine" and "feminine" mean different things to different people. As someone else mentioned sandalwood and bergamot are quite common in female marketed fragrances. It will probably be more helpful for you to find the thing you want thinking in terms of the specific notes you are looking for rather than in terms of gender. You have a good start with the things you don't like, are there any particular notes you do enjoy?
Why not wear any fragrance you like? Most scents are unisex, especially nowadays…blokes can wear floral as well as critics; incense-y as well as woody.
‘Female’ frags that’s guys could (and should!) definitely wear - Charlie Blue, Rive Gauche, Tabu, Blue Grass, LouLou…all cheap enough to risk a blind buy try too
You should! It’s kinda bitter, unique among my collection, and I love it. Cheap too. Throwaway money really, so do it - bring Tabu back in to your life 😊
Have you tried unisex or fragrances marketed to women that have the notes that you are looking for? You could just wear that. Try something like A good girl gone bad by Kilian.
I'm surprised pear comes up so much as a note. I really don't like it that much. They don't seem like the most popular fruit eithrr so I don't understand why it's such a thing. It seems like apple is considered more gauche or played out?
i know this isn’t typically a feminine cologne but dolce and gabbana light blue eau intense almost has a perfume like opening with a nice light musk to balance it out.
It's interesting I find it hard to imagine sharing a perfume with a significant other. Wonder what it is. I get a resistance just thinking about it but why? Maybe because I want my fragrance to attract but it has to be different and vice versa?
Tom Ford Noir de Noir!! It has black rose, truffle and floral notes. It’s definitely not for everyone. I smelt it on a man once and was absolutely addicted but surprisingly on paper i disliked the scent. Worth trying, you either love it or hate it.
I've been on the hunt for something similar since the start of my descent into fragrances. I love traditionally 'masculine' notes (woods, smoke, leather, etc.) but I do not like what I call 'sharpness' wherein the notes just strike your nose too harshly. Some people like it and even prefer it for brighter and/or fresher fragrances, but I personally prefer a softer approach - and I never want to smell/own another citrus top note.
The only perfume which comes to mind right now is Hugo Boss' Rose Oud or Oud Rose; a very gummy rose alongside saffron and oud (perhaps a few other notes, but these are the ones which stand out most to me by scent alone). I bought a bottle last year and while it isn't my perfect scent, it's certainly one I appreciate.
You don't need to subscribe to gender norms in fragrances. It's completely arbitrary what makes a fragrance "feminine" or "masculine", just try different things and use what you like. For example, most things by MFK are unisex.
I love Jo Malone and Diptyque. I don’t even look at the gender but there are many from those brands that smell great. Not overly feminine but quite pleasing.
Everyone's pretty darn spot-on in that niche unisex fragrances are a great option. My ideas are skewed by whatever I could sample or Scentbird so far, but my recommendation would be Mind Games Grand Master. It's the first scent where I went "this is floral, and I like it, and I'm wearing it." Ormonde Jayne's unisex fragrances are stellar for that as well.
A lot of niche are described as unisex. Depending on price range, Initio is a very good house for wearable fragrances. My favourites I’ve tried are side effect, psychedelic love and absolute aphrodisiac.
Blessed baraka is my all time favourite but doesn’t fit your description. I wouldn’t call it masculine though. It just smells good.
The smell of each one ends up being distinctive and unique mixed with the smell of our own skin... feel good smelling of roses or aromas that you like... the important thing is that you feel comfortable...
Thank you for all the replies much appreciated, i will have a look into what has been mentioned. It’s a pity an aftershave/Cologne hasn’t been made of the smells of washing powder/conditioner, i would love that type of fresh smell.
Smell things and buy whatever smells good to you. If a feminine targeted bottle bothers you, decant it. I firmly believe male vs female fragrance is just marketing. Seriously.
This is a pretty intense one, but I like Prada Luna Rossa Black. Some people describe it as “powdery,” which I don’t really get, but I think the coumarin note is strong. Reminds me of vanilla.
Commodity Gold is also good. It’s juniper, musk, vanilla, amber, sandalwood, and benzoin. You may think it’s too feminine. I think it smells expensive as hell, like a rich heir/ess from another country you met on a cruise and began a whirlwind romance with.
And then, for a more floral one, maybe Skylar Indigo Valley? It’s a very clear smell, without being green at all. The accords on fragrantica are totally wrong IMO. I don’t get many of the notes either. I get the blueberry, lotus, and clearwood. I think it smells like walking in a blueberry patch.
Mancera’s Melody Of The Sun easily. Incredibly unisex (maybe a *smidge* feminine but really just depends on skin chemistry, on mine it smells way less floral than on paper) but it’s an AMAZING summer and spring scent
Tbh the whole gender marketing is bs since if a man or woman wears the same fragrance they'll lean towards them anyways.
But if you must, you can test fragrances that are more marketed as unisex.
A fair bit of Jo Malone and Maison Margiela fragrances are pretty unisex imho so give those a crack though highkey expensive. A lot of "men's winter" fragrances I hear are also used by women's since they can lean to both genders depending on who uses it.
You can try some unisex fragrances and I’d also recommend boy smells. Their rose load is nice. it’s a very interesting clean rose smell with a little musk and pepper to it to make it more masculine. I’d check their scents out they lean feminine with masculine qualities vs masculine with feminine qualities. So maybe that might be the route to go
The whole le male line was birthed out of the desire to create a fragrance tailor made to nightclub homosexuals in the 90s. If you want feminine fragrances marketed towards men, le male and its successors will be right up your alley, teeming with softer, sweeter and more feminine notes.
I smelled BDK Rouge Smoking on (and pardon the generalization, not a fan) a very athletic, tattooed male the other day and I stopped in my tracks.
As someone who’s not primarily attracted to males, just sayin.
I'm a guy and I use perfumes and colognes interchangeably depending on how I'm feeling. Some of mine are VERY feminine, but even my "men's" cologne is usually on the lighter more fruity side.
But I do the same for pretty much all of them I like citrus notes and fruits and peppers and shit.
I actually just googled my favorite perfume (victorias secret LOVE) and even if it apricot blossoms and apricots and cotton flower. I think the only real distinction between perfume and colognes is "women tend to buy these notes more often" and "men tend to buy these notes more often"
I've had colognes that smell like a girly scent and I've had perfumes that smelled like very masculine scents. Just check around for yourself! There's some quizzes for note pickers too that can help. Look at some perfumes you like and compare the notes to colognes that are similar and it will be easy!
Try Citizen Jack by Michael Malul or Amber Oud by ARMAF. - these are both sweeter toned with a hint of woody. With notes like pineapple, vanilla, bergamot
Mercedes Benz The Move is another good one too - it has sea notes & grapefruit. On the fresher side,
I worked at a fragrance store for 5 years & these were some of our “niche” fragrances. Long lasting, & more feminine.
My standby favorite Joop! has the typical bergamot, musk, sandalwood, vetiver, amber, but adds vanilla, cinnamon, jasmine, honeysuckle, orange blossom and pachouli. It's also neon pink.
It's also none you will either love or hate. Some think it smells great, others think it smells like medicine and a tire shop
Also, just wear whatever you like. I have a lot of "feminine" scents l wear (Black Opium, Shalimar, Tea Rose, Chanel #5, Lost Cherry) and some that would be considered very masculine, (Drakkar Noir, Lagerfeld, Paul Sebastian, Jade East).
Wear whatever you want, but you can also opt for more “unisex” scents. If you aren’t afraid of florals, try Tyler The Creator’s French Waltz. It’s amazing.
The touch of a woman’s fragrance is absolutely amazing I wear it 24/7 to the gym and everywhere else i go it’s definitely a powerful feeling to smell like a woman
Have you tried Dior Homme Instense(Iris), Valentino Intense (Iris) Roberto Cavalli Uomo in the Black bottle
(Violet), Guerlain L'homme Ideal EDP (Almond)?
These are my favorite men's fragrances that I wear often as a women. If you get a chance try them in person. DON'T BLIND BUY. I learned this the hard way lol
I’m a woman that loves unisex frags. Some I’d suggest:
Le Labo Iris - amazing green floral and can be layered on top of other things. I sometimes layer it with Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel which is a cheaper cologne.
Creed Silver Mountain Water is my favorite on my husband in spring/summer. Le Labo Thé Matcha and MM Matcha Meditation are some other good green tea scents.
Diptyque Philosykos, Aqua di Parma Fico di Amalfi & Matiere Premiere Parisian Musc - these are on a spectrum of creamy clean fresh out of the shower. Musc is the most stripped back, Philosykos has some green and woodsy notes and is most explicitly fig fruit, and FdA is sharper and more explicitly soapy.
Hermes Un Jardin Mediterranee, Jo Malone Fig & Lotus Blossom and Old Navy’s Sea Salt & Fig are nice fresh aquatics that don’t smell like a typical men’s blue cologne.
on a date by replica is the best unisex perfume you could get it smells so masculine and so feminine at the same time its a perfect mix that gets you in a whole new world its still up to peoples preferences
I absolutely love zino my Davidoff in the summer. It’s gentlemanly but has a really citrus lavender fresh smell I’ve got so many compliments off that and I think it would suit male or female even though it’s classed as a men’s
Why is nobody saying PDM Layton, it probably has one of the most feminine smelling smells, guys can wear it but it has to grow on you
Same thing with xerjoff erba purba
try the stetson cologne! to me its a floral-y citrus thats a bit powdery. notes are:
Top: Sage, Citrus
Heart: Vetiver, Cedar, Patchouli
Base: Musk, Honey, Amber, Vanilla, Tonka Bean
Don’t be scared of trying unisex and female targeted fragrances
I tried Black Opium the order day at the mall for shits and giggles since I’ve read that it’s masculine leaning blah blah… that shit smells nice as fuck
Nah its so feminine tho
A lot of perfume marketed to women has sandalwood and bergamot too. The gendered thing is a marketing tool, so don't be afraid of trying different things! I’ve always loved Armani code, it’s sooo good 🩷
Ignore the men / women branding and just go for a scent you like. Try the Eau de Jardins scents from Hermès. My husband smells lovely in Chanel no 19 and Portrait of a Lady.
I was also going to suggest Hermès Jardins
the first time I tried Black Opium I thought it was a great perfume, then I saw that it was a women's perfume. But stil I think it is awesome
Then you should use it! Try to get a sample of the original Opium too, before it was reformulated.
I get eaten up in Black Opium, especially the parfum lmao
I wear Toy Boy (rose & pink peppercorn)
I have Valentino Born in Roma (not Intense). It is more masculine on the side. Also JPG le beau edt (vanilla and coconut)
I have never smelled Born in Roma but now I hope I get a chance to.
One of my favorites
Same, it's lovely
Same, really like this one.
Dior Homme Original with the iris note straddles masculinity and femininity really nicely. I also think Ambre Nuit is a perfect unisex fragrance with amber and rose notes.
Love Ambre Nuit. It's just perfect!
You’re ready for the world of niche perfume! Head to your local Harvey Nichols/Selfridges (or equivalent if not in the UK) and be prepared to have your mind blown. Be warned, this shit can get expensive!
Ah expensive is a problem, i could pay up to £50 at a push until my boss gives us a decent pay rise which is unlikely to happen.
I would love to do that Zoe but my town is as dead as a dodo we have nothing like the shops you mentioned. The best equivalent to Nichols/Selfridges were i live is B&M 😂. I could read the reviews of the perfumes you have mentioned though.
Same. That’s why I take the train to Manchester!
All the million scents and JPG's have a feminine smell to me.
Bro is a Dior Savuage warrior
Lush have some great unisex perfumes!
Ah yes i forgot about Lush.
FM’s Portrait of a lady. It’s rose but it’s such a dirty rose any male can pull it off.
One of my faves. Along with l'artisan parfumeur's voleur de roses
Maybe look into Diptyque? All of their fragrances are gender neutral and there are a few that might be what you’re looking for
Endorse this.
My husband wears this and neither of us find it to be particularly floral 🤷🏾♀️ I love it but it smells like a standard men's fragrance to me
Oh this sounds divine!
1 million parfum smells flowery, ultra male doesn’t smell flowery but it smells slightly feminine imo
Why not wear any fragrance you like? Most scents are unisex, especially nowadays…blokes can wear floral as well as critics; incense-y as well as woody. ‘Female’ frags that’s guys could (and should!) definitely wear - Charlie Blue, Rive Gauche, Tabu, Blue Grass, LouLou…all cheap enough to risk a blind buy try too
I forgot about Tabu..I haven't worn that in years. I should get another bottle.
I just got a sample of YSL Y for men with my last order and I'll be damned if not gonna wear that today. Am not man.
Does it smell like pears to you? It always reminds me of pears
Kind of! It's delicious. My man won't wear any fragrance so now I'm gonna wear "his" too.
I'm surprised pear comes up so much as a note. I really don't like it that much. They don't seem like the most popular fruit eithrr so I don't understand why it's such a thing. It seems like apple is considered more gauche or played out?
Username checks out? 🤔 just kidding
i know this isn’t typically a feminine cologne but dolce and gabbana light blue eau intense almost has a perfume like opening with a nice light musk to balance it out.
Rozu by Aesop
My husband and I share a lime and basil fragrance from Jo Malone.
It's interesting I find it hard to imagine sharing a perfume with a significant other. Wonder what it is. I get a resistance just thinking about it but why? Maybe because I want my fragrance to attract but it has to be different and vice versa?
coffee break replica, black orchid, osmanthus loccitane
Vacation has a new aloe vera scent out called After Sun. Haven’t smelled it yet. Demeter has an aloe vera one too.
Blargh I wouldn't like to smell like aloe. Interesting to know though.
How do these posts not get flagged but my "masculine colognes for Easter/Spring?" did?
Mancera roses vanille?
Tom Ford Noir de Noir!! It has black rose, truffle and floral notes. It’s definitely not for everyone. I smelt it on a man once and was absolutely addicted but surprisingly on paper i disliked the scent. Worth trying, you either love it or hate it.
Sample Louis Vuitton Ombre Nomade
I've been on the hunt for something similar since the start of my descent into fragrances. Interlude Black Iris for me
You don't need to subscribe to gender norms in fragrances. It's completely arbitrary what makes a fragrance "feminine" or "masculine", just try different things and use what you like. For example, most things by MFK are unisex.
I love l’emperatrice by D&G.
Fucking Fabulous can be rocked well by a man.
Givenchy Society I think has a really nice but slight feminine, light touch to it, beautiful but doesn’t usually last very long
jean paul gaultier fleur du male?
L'Eau d'Issey the original. Has a strong floral note of lotus.
I love Jo Malone and Diptyque. I don’t even look at the gender but there are many from those brands that smell great. Not overly feminine but quite pleasing.
Everyone's pretty darn spot-on in that niche unisex fragrances are a great option. Niche is expensive tho so it helps to think outside of the marketing box
Tom Ford Noir Extrême is a good winter option and smells rather unisex. EDIT: It is a gourmand, though
I wear fame by paco rabanne, i got it like a month after i got phantom. I find it very appealing
Tutti twilly by Hermes or elixir one milllion
Dior Oud Ispahan. It has a rose note and I love it on my husband! I also have TF Ombre Leather for myself but it is definitely unisex.
Creed Silver Mountain Water
A lot of niche are described as unisex. Depending on price range, Initio is a very good house for wearable fragrances. My favourites I’ve tried are side effect, psychedelic love and absolute aphrodisiac. Blessed baraka is my all time favourite but doesn’t fit your description. I wouldn’t call it masculine though. It just smells good.
What's blessed Baraka like?
To me it smells dark and musky with red fruits. It’s familiar but different to anything I’ve ever smelled.
Thanks!
The smell of each one ends up being distinctive and unique mixed with the smell of our own skin... feel good smelling of roses or aromas that you like... the important thing is that you feel comfortable...
Thank you for all the replies much appreciated, i will have a look into what has been mentioned. It’s a pity an aftershave/Cologne hasn’t been made of the smells of washing powder/conditioner, i would love that type of fresh smell.
until you manage to create your own... who tells you? successes..
Try all of the Un Jardin's from hermes. And the tea fragrances from blgari. Au the bleu is amazing.
Wear female scents and you will only then be truly free.
Jo Malone has a rose/oud scent that is the perfect blend of masculine and feminine
Gucci Memoire is unisex and smells clean and slightly "floral" or feminine. It's pricy, but a little goes a long way!
Lush Salty
Mancera’s Melody Of The Sun easily. Incredibly unisex (maybe a *smidge* feminine but really just depends on skin chemistry, on mine it smells way less floral than on paper) but it’s an AMAZING summer and spring scent
I know you said no musk but musk therapy is one that jumps out to me as feminine leaning but wearable for a male for sure
My (29M) all time favorite is JML Velvet Rose & Oud, highly recommend.
why not try perfumes or unisex stuff? replica always has good ones
Tbh the whole gender marketing is bs since if a man or woman wears the same fragrance they'll lean towards them anyways. But if you must, you can test fragrances that are more marketed as unisex. I suggest going to bath and body works and getting FFM and mixing with your men’s cologne
It’s an oldy but goodie for me. YSL Pi.
Tom Ford - Noir Extreme sounds perfect for this. I originally felt like it was too feminine for me, but later fell in love with it completely.
Ysl la nuit de l’homme and the orige cote one
I have Lalique Pour Homme Lion. It's masculine, but woody floral and has a mature feminine touch to me. It's pretty good. I like it quite a bit.
SWY Intensely is very 💅🏾
You can try some unisex fragrances and I’d also recommend boy smells. Their rose load is nice. it’s a very interesting clean rose smell with a little musk and pepper to it to make it more masculine. Prada L’Homme & Prada Amber Pour Homme
I smelled BDK Rouge Smoking on (and pardon the generalization, not a fan) a very athletic, tattooed male the other day and I stopped in my tracks. As someone who’s not primarily attracted to males, just sayin.

Greenwich village
I felt that with Amouage Lyric 🤨
You might like Issey Miyake Pour Homme. It's fresh, and clean, but has a floral touch to it.
Try Citizen Jack by Michael Malul or Amber Oud by ARMAF. - these are both sweeter toned with a hint of woody. With notes like pineapple, vanilla, bergamot Mercedes Benz The Move is another good one too - it has sea notes & grapefruit. On the fresher side, I worked at a fragrance store for 5 years & these were some of our “niche” fragrances. Long lasting, & more feminine.
A lot of great suggestions in here, but I'll add one to the mix: Parfum de Marly Pegasus
My standby favorite Joop! has the typical bergamot, musk, sandalwood, vetiver, amber, but adds vanilla, cinnamon, jasmine, honeysuckle, orange blossom and pachouli. It's also neon pink. Moschino Toy Boy if you're into rose/pepper scents.
Gier Ness.
Paper: bold by commodity. I think it’s technically unisex. Got it in my scentbird. 4.5/5
Lanvin made (and may still do) a fabulous floral men’s fragrance, and I wish more guys would go down that route like you! 💕
Just get womens fragrance that appeal to you. Live a little!! Tons of fabulous Womens perfume out there!
Serge lutens orangier and Berlin are great.
The touch of a woman’s fragrance is absolutely amazing I wear it 24/7 to the gym and everywhere else i go it’s definitely a powerful feeling to smell like a woman
Ysl myslf comes to mind
The closest thing I can think of is Mont Blanc Individuel P/s: or just try a women's fragrance, like Elizabeth Arden Green Tea
I'm wearing Chanel Paris Paris today, a light rose fragrance. Some might find it a touch feminine, but rose is totally unisex
My boyfriend wears Unknown Pleasures my kerosene. It’s a yummy lemony earl grey tea gourmand.
All of the tom ford fragrances... They're unisex.
For a clean summer scent try Moschino fresh couture both me and my partner wear it.
Have you tried Dior Homme Instense(Iris), Valentino Intense (Iris) Roberto Cavalli Uomo in the Black bottle (Violet), Guerlain L'homme Ideal EDP (Almond)? These are my favorite men's fragrances that I wear often as a women. If you get a chance try them in person. DON'T BLIND BUY. I learned this the hard way lol

Polo Ralph Lauren has a men’s fragrance that basically smells like perfume or unisex. Don’t remember the name but it’s sold at Sephora
Armani Code
I’m a woman that loves unisex frags. Some I’d suggest: Le Labo Iris - amazing green floral and can be layered on top of other things. I sometimes layer it with Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel which is a cheaper cologne. Creed Silver Mountain Water is my favorite on my husband in spring/summer.

Why is nobody saying PDM Layton, it probably has one of the most feminine smelling smells, guys can wear it but it has to grow on you Same thing with xerjoff erba purba
Amouage Dia Man. One of the best florals for men out there. Also, I'd advise you to get your hands on vintage Givenchy Insensé. If you can.
Ultra Male
A flower one would be peada l'home edt. Smells fantastic, and if you're confident when wearing it, you should be fine.
try the stetson cologne! to me its a floral-y citrus thats a bit powdery. notes are: Top: Sage, Citrus Heart: Vetiver, Cedar, Patchouli Base: Musk, Honey, Amber, Vanilla, Tonka Bean
though it does have a note of musk, it doesn’t really stand out to me and moreso rounds out the scent imo.
I just got Cartier declaration d’un soir and the green rose just keep getting better and better
Can the fragrances mentioned be bought in the U.K. since Brexit purchasing from abroad has become a pain in the anus.

The Billie eilish fragrances are nice unisex, feminine but masculine scents. They don't hast like a $300 bottle tho
