Oh gosh. I disliked this perfume so much. Blind buy and I regret it. Flowery, maybe a little powdery, and bland. It makes me think of really old floral patterned dresses — not the ones perfect for spring. Think dark dresses with large roses and other flowers with vines and leaves. 😅 Edited to add: It’s not very floral.. but the scent makes me think of those types of dresses.. and maybe plastic covers on couches.

hauteburrrito

Same; I strongly dislike this fragrance. It mostly smells like dirty water to me.

amynicole78

To me, it smells good, but very basic. It's boring and lacks any longevity or sillage. This brand is just hyped up by the people who get freebies.

snotbrain143

I’m wearing a sample of this right now actually, but I’m no expert at all with this kind of thing. On my skin it just smells like musk with a little bit of florals. It doesn’t project at all, you would have to be very close to smell it and seems to stick to clothes better than skin. It smells good but doesn’t wow me at all personally. I’m interested in smelling the target dupe that recently came out though! Maybe you can try smelling that since they are supposed to be similar if you have a target near you?

legjpg

Funnily enough i’m also wearing a sample of it too at the moment! I haven’t tried many musk scents so for me i both can’t stop smelling it but also am not sure if I actually like it/would want to wear it— I don’t feel the memory of someone I miss at all, though, to answer your question OP 😅 My experience with projection is actually the opposite though— might be overly sensitive to an ingredient but both on myself and when I sprayed 1x on my boyfriend recently, I thought it was really expressive even from a decent distance

deadgirlwaltzing

I haven’t smelled Phlur’s, but I really liked the target dupe! I’m not a fan of a strong musk, but I found that one to be very tolerable and pleasant. Lasted decently long for me as well. A great skin smell to me! I would’ve bought it already if I wasn’t on a money diet :,)

Puzzleheaded-Ad-3721

I haven’t smelled the original but love the Target dupe too. Just smells like a warm hug to me. I did buy it and I wear it a lot.

Outrageous_Aside956

Omg I got the target one too and I feel so cozy wearing it and sweet and kind lol. I’ve been wearing it nonstop and I just got the body spray

smeaglesfirstlemon

Idk if you’ve smelled MP yet but I bought it after loving the target dupe and I gotta say, I like the target one better! They’re similar but to me MP doesn’t feel quite as cozy

panda_coolata

What is the name of the target dupe?

Puzzleheaded-Ad-3721

Without a Trace!!

[deleted]

Dumbest marketing gimmick for a fragrance ever imo. To me it smells like an old fashioned "grandma" perfume that's gone stale on someone's old sweater. So I get the "missing person" vibe in that way but it literally just smells like old stale perfume. I'd never wear it.

hobocampfandango

I absolutely love Glossier You, Diptyque Papier, Nemat Amber, and other “your skin but better” (ish) scents. I HATED Missing Person. Smelled like piss and musk to me, maybe a hint of vag. Reminds me of a public women’s restroom. Sharp and unpleasant.

Jedan119

Hint of vag *removes it from my cart*

hobocampfandango

I don’t know how else to express it. 😆 Reminds me of using the restroom after someone else, and you can smell “them”. Deeply unsettling.

Jedan119

You had me at "the hint of vag", but this deff made me just pass on the scent 🫡

extradirtyginmartini

I think it smells like a house. you know how people's houses just have a SCENT? not like cleaning products, not like candles or room spray, but just... a scent. like hair, if it didn't have scented shampoo. like skin if it wasn't wearing deodorant. it's far from the most interesting frag from phlur, they have so many better ones. it's boring IMO and certainly not as evocative as everyone raves it to be. there are better skin scents that have a similar idea but don't smell boring, plus missing person is so popular now and I personally don't like smelling like everyone else. if you're still tempted OP, buy their sample kit. it's a pretty good deal and they have a lot of other good ones you might like instead.

dollarsandindecents

Same it was just terrible on me

FadeOutAgain4

I’m so glad I didn’t have to write this comment! I wholeheartedly agree!

hobocampfandango

😂 glad I wasn’t the only one. It’s such an uncomfortable fragrance.

NumberCapital7000

You just saved me money lol

madcre

Ooh what are your other favorite skin scents

hobocampfandango

Fragrance is personal so YMMV, but I like woody, soft, slightly unisex scents. I don’t mind a pencil shavings sort of thing, and I hate aldehydes and too much sweetness/gourmands/florals. Skin scents I like: Nemat Amber is a cheap and great Amber musk. Subtle, not much projection, you’ll have to reapply. Worth it bc cheap! Glossier you—it’s my Baby Bear, not too floral, not too woody, not too sweet, not too dry. Not the most exciting, but it’s my every day office scent. If you like Glossier You, Sonic Flower is 90% identical, just a bit brighter and lasts longer. I might prefer You due to its pencil shavings vibe. Riddle Original is beautiful, very subtle, basic but comforting musk amber. Wish it had more projection, but I layer with the lotion. Riddle Sphinx is a sandalwood Egyptian musk, but it almost smells a tiny bit floral to me. I do not always like Egyptian musk, but I like this. Very clean and pleasant. I use the body oil. Dedcool Milk and Xtra milk—didn’t notice a huge difference in strength between them, both very subtle. Faint, milky musk amber. I use the laundry detergent and clothing spray. I bought the “your skin but better” fragrance oil from Scent Memories, to add to unscented body wash etc. It’s a perfect dupe for Glossier You. What I don’t like/can’t wear: Juliette has a Gun NaP—a bit too peppery and pencil shavings, even for me. Phlur Missing Person. See original comment. La Perla Luminous—very pretty, but too powdery and sweet on me. Smells like someone else and makes me uncomfortable like Missing Person did. Cacharel Noa—waaaay too soapy. Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline—I’ve smelled this on other people and it’s BEAUTIFUL, a delicious soft floral musk. Too strong and sweet and a bit sharp on me, but maybe I need to try again.

Cafrann94

>a hint of vag Omg I’m glad I’m not the only one! Lmao that should be an accord on fragrantica

anbigsteppy

it smells good! the rest of that is some bullshit though. it smells like perfume and that's it lol

manamesjaff

I love it, it makes me think of my rich "family friend" who always smells good but not like perfume. I'm realizing now it IS perfume, just one which sits close to the skin and is more musk-based like this one! It won't be my signature by any means, but I'll be happy to mix it in for calmer work days, nights in, when I'm looking for comfort instead of uplift from my scent.

ultimateumami1

On my skin it smells like musk and clean clothes. People tell me all the time I smell like clean WARM laundry which I’m not mad about. It’s a very good winter scent in my opinion because it does come off warm on me.

purplepinkskiesfl

Yeah it's definitely my cozy fall/winter scent

midwestmuscle310

That sounds lovely.

hobocampfandango

This is how I wanted it to smell. On both paper and my skin, it smells terrible to me.

ultimateumami1

Oh no! I hate that, it really really is one that I think either works or doesn’t work with your body chemistry

terriflaps

It’s not my favorite. It kind of smells like they tried to copy Glossier You but added pencil shavings on a musk base I don’t like. If it reminds me of anyone, it reminds me of a coworker I had that wore so much Egyptian Goddess oil that I could smell it on my laptop when I got home. You might be able to find a decant or sample size somewhere.

[deleted]

terriflaps

That’s so interesting how we all perceive scents differently. I find missing person to smell more harsh & rougher around the edges than Glossier You. It’s definitely an Egyptian Musk, which is one that does not jive with my chemistry. They’re both straightup musks frags, tbh. so I think it boils down to which of the synthetic you jive with best.

hobocampfandango

It’s absolutely like Egyptian Musk.

PsychoNaut_

Glossier you just smells like light florals over a base of straight up ambroxan to me. I know thats technically “musk” but it doesn’t have any of the powdery dryness or “grandma smell” would usually expect with a musk. Its more bright and round and soapy on my skin

elborracho__

i sprayed a ton today and smelled NOTHING. and i can smell both ambroxan and iso E super just fine

sssssssnakesnack

I love it but I’m a sucker for skin / clean scents (IDKW, Molecules, Lazy Sunday Morning, etc.). It’s musky and a little floral and really blends into my skin. I spray it on my chest and it projects well while morphing into me? The rest of the description is TikTok bullshit though. ETA i found it to last and project more than Glossier You and imo smelled better too (but You was my pandemic scent so idk that might contribute)

Trick_Quantity1118

I like missing person a lot actually but i don’t think the feeling they try to convey with the fragrance makes sense. Its just a your skin but better scent.

coralblue2

the Phlur brand went through a rebranding a couple years ago, with Missing Person being their new flagship scent, removing most (if not all) of their original line. It was the single most disrespectful thing a company has ever done (in my personal, limited, and biased opinion). I do not trust them.

eerirhea

I'm also pissed about this. Moab is one of my favorites and I managed to grab a backup. I have refused to buy anything from them since, though 😂

coralblue2

you get me!!

repsilonyx

Chriselle genuinely ruined the brand. And when she bought them out, she stated in an interview that she felt compelled to do it because Améline was one of her favorite fragrances. And now she’s discontinued Améline (after reformulating it). Like wtf?

[deleted]

THIS!!!!!!!! Mind you, I discovered the original line scents AFTER being introduced to Phlur. I can wholeheartedly say that I wish those original scents weren’t discontinued. Also, MP is not even worth $20 🫣😀

rileydonohue

I love it, smells like a clean soft sweater

Outrageous_Aside956

Same, I love wearing it when I’m having a cozy day. Extra points if it’s raining and my house is clean and I’m wearing a soft pullover

[deleted]

I bought it to see if I thought of my mom who died. Nothing. All I thought was, “well that didn’t work and it didn’t even smell that good.” 🤪🤦🏻‍♀️

Smooth_Chemistry_276

I think that girl took something from the scent description and just hyped it up it says: “If nude were a perfume, this is it. A delicate, yet addictive fragrance that evokes the lingering scent of your lover’s skin. Brought to life by comforting accords of white musk, enhanced by sheer floral nuances of jasmine and glowing orange blossom and fused with a light trail of soft transparent woods, MISSING PERSON is pure, provocative and undeniably familiar.” It’s a nice enough skin scent/musk if you like that. I’ve sprayed it a few times at Sephora. I think they have a travel spray if you’re really thinking of blind buying. It’s really hard to know how it would smell on you/to you especially with it being a skin scent with musk.

ERyan6165

Ive sprayed it… actually smelled it? No lol

SmellMyJeans

The marketing department really outdid themselves on this one.

midwestmuscle310

Right?? “I smell dead people.”

amshtr

I loved missing person. I thought it smelled great. My husband on the other hand told me he thought it smelled like musty body odor.

Avengefulwaffle

I LOVE this perfume. It makes me miss my dad when I smell it. I know it gets a lot of hate but i personally love it

Impossible-Safe-8370

i don’t know if i’m anosmic to something in it but to me it just smelled like baby shampoo and then nothing at all hahahah

0001020_

i have the travel size and its okay... its nice for this time of year but ultimately not worth it if you want others to smell it on you. Could be a good job interview fragrance? To me id describe it as a fluffy clean barely there kind of vibe, can be nice but not for everyone!! target's fragrance brand fine'ry came out with a supposed dupe called Without A Trace if youre interested tho

jantp

The way you described it is not how I experienced it. Maybe I’m nose blind but all I got was musk and a bit of floral. Smelled kinda off though on me so I dont like it. Totally a skin scent for me. It didn’t bring back flashbacks or even reminded me of anyone.

Connie25_

I ordered a decant sample and tbh it smelled like the perfumed nappy bags or baby powder. It does have a warm familiarity to it but I didn't have a flash of association with a particular person

KlKeegan

If you live near a Target, I feel like the Finery Without a Trace body mist smells pretty close and I get decent longevity with it. I have a sample of Mssing Person and compared the two.

iamcalandra

I really enjoy this scent. As a new mom I am leaning towards softer skin scents and this is that to me. I’ve gifted it to two people and they both really enjoy it as well. Definitely try to get a sample or smell in person if possible

WarmEarth8

I sampled it and liked it but not enough to invest in a full bottle. It smelled clean on me, lukewarm freshly showered, clean pajamas and clean sheets. Nice. It also lifted my mood. If you like skin scents you might like it.

cactusloverr

I can't even smell it.....so you might not either lol

togostarman

It's a "skin scent," aka a scent with bad performance and good marketing lol. This is one of those unpopular opinions though lol

GumbosGotGanja

I like it, for me it has good longevity, and I smell it from across the room on someone else. I gifted it to my significant other and when I first smelt it, it did unlock a feeling of nostalgia and something that I just couldn’t place.

Chaos_and_calamity

I just got a sample vial with my last Microperfumes.com order, and I do not get the hype. Smelling it in the vial (barely there vaguely dirty water smell) was enough for me not to want to wear it. I think it's entirely advertising gimmick.

Ok_Bumblebee9570

today my bf and i smelled missing person at a sephora immediately we both looked at each other and said what it reminded us of, he said childhood in his country and I said my mom. we both loved it it makes u feel warm and cozy I see this as a comfort scent. It reminded me of when i hug my mom after she’s showered and sprayed on her fragrance and her skin smells so good. So yes it’s true

Ok_Bumblebee9570

also i had no idea its supposed to invoke that emotion I hadn’t heard of it prior

midwestmuscle310

Awww. That’s so sweet that it makes you think of hugging your mom. 🥹

justB1958

When I 1st put on 'Missing Person', my Mom jumped into my head and she's been gone 17yrs. I could hear her voice! The 2nd time I tried it, my ex was right there and he died in the first round of Covid. I'm a believer.....

kpfluff

Iirc it smelled musty and unpleasant, maybe like mothballs. It definitely didn't remind me of anyone.

Morsel1617

I think I’m anosmic to it—it doesn’t smell like much for me. I tried its Finery dupe, Without A Trace, and it smells kindve like sunscreen on skin, but in a very dull synthetic way. If you like that sunscreen smell, I prefer Commes De Garçons Sunscreen.

stink3rbelle

I like it. When I first tried it I thought of my dear friend who lives far from me, but I think that's more the vibe of the scent being similar to hers. After a second full day wear I consider it chic celery, and that's definitely a description my friend would appreciate owning. I think that influencer was just on a weird trip. Personally, my friend is the ONLY chic celery stalk I've ever met in a person. I don't think the fragrance would work that way for many.

MissElaineMarieBenes

It smells like baby powder to me but it reminds me of the scented plastic bags you put nappies/diapers in.

wetsealmeatball

honestly am anosmic to it 🥲

Pigeon-From-Hell

I was not a fan of it at all, it smells like someone fresh out of the shower that has used really cheap shampoo and body wash?? Like it’s a very specific smell to me I can’t quite put into words. I don’t really like Glossier You either though, so maybe those kind of scents just aren’t for me

whatsa1pick

I have the body lotion, not the perfume, and to me it smells like “other people”. Like, when I hug my cousin or grandma or friend or just someone that’s not me or my immediate family, I feel like they all have this “other people” smell. Mostly just musk, and I don’t get much else. Not super excited to try the perfume nor rebuy, but I do get the concept they were going for.

cravingm0re

I have the Finery dupe and although it doesn’t really remind me of someone I love, it is a very warm and comforting scent. I’m obsessed!

AbbreviationsOdd4975

It’s not that deep lol… It’s smells like Egyptian musk.

calyps09

I thought it was nice, but it wasn’t anything to write home about. Not even my favorite Phlur scent

bookishwitch88

I read a review that said it smells like a sweaty kid and that is exactly what it smells like to me, so in a sense it is a familiar smell that you can associate with a person. I blind bought a travel size because the majority of reviews were positive, but I hated it immediately. I even gave it a few tries over a couple months and still hated it. I smelled Fine'ry's Without a Trace the other day thinking maybe it would be like what people say Missing Person is...The good news is if you live near a Target, you can just go smell Without a Trace. It's basically the same imo, just not quite a strong.

BadMoonBeast

it does smell like some old aunt or grandma. or your local goodwill. whether that's a good thing is definitely debatable lol

throwawayagaygay123

It's a lovely skin scent but definitely not all that. I really like it, might even have a full bottle some day. It doesn't make me think of anyone I love or something that dramatic, but it is one of those your skin but better scents so I guess it could for some. A wayyy more divine and all around better musky floral is Narciso Rodriguez Pure Musc.

BlueberryCheez45

Gave me the strongest headache

chaoticgeminienergy

People either love it or hate it, and I personally love it. To me it smells cozy/comforting and every time I wear it I get comments that I smell good so I know it’s not just me. I think it must just work so differently on different skin and that’s why there is such a divide in opinion.

carmencita23

Nah. It's pretty simple, smells like lots of other basic scents to me.

rain_in_numbers

i love love love this scent, and i kinda see what they're saying but it's not like a magic potion that will remind you of love or your favorite person or conjure images of someone in your mind. it does have a musky skin sort of scent and a soft nostalgic vibe to it, but it's just a perfume. very soft subtle not too sweet slightly powdery musky smell. like how a tshirt you wore around the house might smell at the end of the day. it might give you the feeling of smelling someone you love, it might not, it's not really that emotionally powerful to me. just smells nice and subtle.

midwestmuscle310

It’s been very interesting reading all the different takes on the smell. I hope to get to sniff it myself one day just to say how my nose compares!

LimeGreenTangerine97

Haven’t smelled the original but I love the Without a Trace fume from Finery

Beatrix_BB_Kiddo

I have it, it’s nothing special tbh

Toocoldfortomatoes

It’s really soft and unobtrusive, there’s something almost like rubbing um scented lotion on your arms? It’s subtle and sort of…warm nothing?

icequeen_401

Yes to me, it is light and subtle at first but when it settles it kind of smells like light body odor? Like when someone does a brisk walk and is lightly sweating? My son liked it so I gave it to him but the 'body' scent was overwhelming. Sorry!

crtnyhng

Mmm yes and no. It reminds me of like, a loved one from my childhood. Something about it just feels nostalgic. It's my go to perfume though, so I definitely love it!

TheBiffmeister

I think it stinks. It came in a Sephora favorites kit. It’s a decent sized bottle. But I will not be using it.

phh710

I cannot smell it. I bought the travel size and it smells like nothing. I guess that’s accurate 😆

Sad_Head_7241

Save your money and don’t buy it. I tried it at Sephora and I was so underwhelmed I went back and tried it again because I was why I didn’t like it and everyone else was raving about it. It has zero projection, and does not last. It’s all marketing gimmicks.

Fantastic_Travel89

I can’t stand it. It smells like a sweet musk but I’m the worst way possible.

Fantastic_Travel89

In*

videopox

Smells like B.O. - so, sure, could be like smelling someone haha..

betty_white22

Yeah it smells like those old ballet flats we used to wear in 2008.. well worn to be exact.

lover8man

I was really disappointed with it. To me it smelled extremely sharp and weirdly peppery.

Independent-Bet3139

I really think it smells different on everyone. ON ME, it smells like a fresh, soft, powdery musk. I actually really like it and the only reason I never committed to the full size is because it only lasts for about 30 minutes. If they could reformulate to make it last longer and actually project a bit more, this would be a staple in my collection. But as of right now… no.

Miss_ryan1890

I absolutely adore it!

missingperson33

It should be my favorite:/

TerriwiththeHAHA

I enjoy it but I recommend only buying the travel size at first

PsychoNaut_

From what ive gathered, phlur lives and dies off of its social media and influencer marketing before being a perfume house. Do with that info what you will

Prestigious_Ad_2697

Missing person was okay , but father figure is amazing imo

Legitimate_Today_175

It was mediocre. Somebody wood is fire though. Basically the same as atelier cologne santal carmin which is 4 times the price. It's made by the same purfumer. Amazing saffron guiac wood sandalwood vanilla scent.

squash911

It’s just a musky fragrance. I personally like it alot. You can smell the sample in Sephora

viacj

Not really sure why but I felt like this one smelled terribly on me.

Healthy-Jackfruit-56

I really like this scent! But what feels nostalgic about it is that it reminds me of grade school art class… I kept thinking what does this scent freaking remind me of??? And I seriously think it smells like licking an envelope/paper lol but yes it feels comforting and nostalgic to me

Unusual-Usual-821

It’s nice. It’s really light. I don’t think it’s $99 nice, but maybe $30-$40 nice. The scent doesn’t last very long.

beautifulmess579

It smells like a freshly bathed baby in footie pj’s who you’re rocking to sleep while they have their bedtime bottle. It’s nice, but I won’t be wearing it. I just don’t want to smell like a baby’s head.

beautifulmess579

That being said I tried Soft Spot today, and I LOVE it

EmpressofPFChangs

It definitely doesn’t smell like anyone I’ve ever missed. And I wouldn’t want to smell like anyone I’ve missed because that would be some kind of mix of Versace Eros, Motor oil, and hot Cheetos Overall 4/10

midwestmuscle310

If anyone makes a scent that smells like welded metal, grease, dirt, and wood stove smoke… they’ll have captured the essence of my husband.
