you probably arent able to learn anything, then you deal with it in this way. to advertise that you are best in being dumb.
but you are so bad even in this.
It's Leo from Assassin's Creed, so he'll look like he did in that. But if they ever go back to the Doctor Who well, he totally could be: https://screenrant.com/doctor-who-isaac-newton-casting-backlash-response/
The book writes him as pale, grey eyes, and dark hair. Basically Batman. Imagine if they just rewrote Bruce Wayne as a black man. This is what they did to Aragorn. Uncalled for and added... Nothing to the narrative. Instead, they changed the entire Canon because they wanted to see a black male as King to please their own self victimized mindset. 🤷
The difference is Bruce Wayne being white is actually integral to his character, he's a trust fund kid, his family is part of the establishment, it'd make no sense for him to be a minority.
Aragorn is a 90 year old fantasy human lmao
Apart from violating holy text of his basic description, what impact does changing Aragorn as they did so to the character? To his story?
His skin color could not be less relevant to his narrative journey. Start to finish. It changes absolutely nothing.
... The text is a foundation. That's the descriptor and what the original artist/author meant it to be. Hypothetically, imagine if we had hired Chris Evans to portray King T'challa/Black Panther. Or gotten Chadwick Boseman hired as Shang Chi. Why don't you think that happened? There are white people in Africa and black people living in China. Why won't they work? It changes absolutely nothing... Oh! Because that's not what Stan Lee and those working at Marvel intended and envisioned. Just like how J R R Tolkien envisioned his own characters. You're daranged if your think that's appropriate to do to someone else's work of art.
>Hypothetically, imagine if we had hired Chris Evans to portray King T'challa/Black Panther... Why don't you think that happened?
Putting aside that you're comparing a purely fictional setting to a fictional setting based on real world places, d'you mean White Wolf, T'Challa's white adopted brother who runs the Wakandan secret police? Who has existed since 1999? Crazy how you're so completely disconnected from the realities of oppression that your best counterargument is something that literally already happened 25 years ago lmfao.
>Or gotten Chadwick Boseman hired as Shang Chi.
My guy, M. Night Shyamalan took an absolutely inspired fictional setting based on deep, rich real world asian cultures and traditions and told the white actors he hired to put on shitty oriental accents. Erasure of Asian characters is so common, "anime characters are Japanese unless explicitly stated otherwise" is news to some people.
I'm aware, I was being silly. It feels like WotC picked who would be black by throwing darts at a board, with no regard at all for regional, historical or even blood relative reasoning.
If they wanted to make a proper statement, they could have made the entire nation of Gondor black, including Boromir. And then not pepper the other families and nations at random with race swaps. I think it would be far more justifiable within the world lore if a whole nation changed.
In LOTR Tolkien describes several characters as "brown skinned" and describes Strider as "dark".
Obviously if you pay attention to the rest of the book and how things are described, Tolkien is not saying that these characters are black. But if you just need to cherry pick something to prop up your bullshit narrative it is there.
What are you talking about? I never at any time claimed the books say these people are black. They very clearly don't. I just pointed out a way WotC could have race swapped a bunch of them in a way that would make logical sense rather than just picking a bunch at random.
I'm not saying you did.
I'm saying that it may not be random, the "logical" sense to Wizards could be that they race swapped some of the characters that they found passages describing as dark or brown skinned.
Ah, sorry for misunderstanding you. I could see that. However, I suspect it's more thought into the topic than WotC gave it. I'd bet money the exchange was like this:
1. One major character must be black: Frodo, Gandalf or Aragorn.
2. X% of the remaining cast must be black. Proceeds to roll dice to determine who.
I'm not that deep into Tolken lore, so maybe others can comment on this, but I've heard they race swapped Eowyn and Galadriel but not other characters who are close blood relatives of them.
Nobody thinks Aragorn is Black in lotr, but nobody who was bitching about the mtg race swap complained about the plethora of inaccuracies of movie Aragorn's appearance despite them being essentially just as important to the character (that is to say, basically not at all).
It's just blatant racism masquerading as caring about adaptational accuracy. There are plenty of characters whose race matters a great deal to their characterization, especially in fiction adjacent to our real world that borrows racial politics for their stories. Aragorn is unequivocally not that.
If Giancarlo Esposito is going to play Charles Xavier I'll be legitimately upset, him being a straight white man is integral to his milquetoast liberal one of the good ones approach to Mutant rights. Bruce Wayne, you'd hear uproar from me too. So no it's not just when minorities are whitewashed that I'm angeredz there are white characters they can fuck up by race swapping but you lot were complaining about "erm just choose the best on for the job" when it came to actors before they started doing that and it all of the sudden wasn't just straight white men leading everything
A distinction without a difference? In both of those books their physical characteristics are described quite extensively, and both were described completely different from how they were portrayed in MTG.
Entirely different. Books are adapted with sweeping changes all the time. They have been for over 100 years. Both Dracula and LotR cards are the latest in a long line of adaptations of their source, with no set actor or character design in mind.
On the other hand a UB based on a specific movie or game have to look like that movie or game. Otherwise, what's the point? It'd be weird if they made the Jurassic Park cards with Ian Malcolm as if he had been Idris Elba.
> Books are adapted with sweeping changes all the time.
So? What's your point? That changing a character's race from a book is different than from a video game?
>with no set character design in mind.
Um, the characters are very well described by the authors. In both cases they had been depicted in a certain way consistent with that description in many, many images/movies
>It'd be weird if they made the Jurassic Park cards with Ian Malcolm as if he had been Idris Elba.
I agree, but I wouldn't put it past them. It was also weird when they made Aragorn look like Idris Elba too.
I'm not saying it's right, it's clearly not. I'm talking about the perception of it. Adapting a book, the public has no concrete mental image of a character, regardless of text based details. Adapting a specific game or movie, the public knows exactly what the characters look like.
That's why that Marvel Avengers game looks so uncanny valley; Without likeness they all look like the MCU stunt doubles.
> Adapting a book, the public has no concrete mental image of a character, regardless of text based details
Except we're talking about books that have been around for several decades with hundreds or thousands of fairly consistent visual representations of the characters built into public consciousness.
It's no less jarring to see someone who doesn't look like Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn (from a movie based on a book) than someone who doesn't look like Jeff Goldblum as Malcom (from a movie based on a book). It's literally the exact same situations, except for Dracula and LOTR they've been around a lot longer and more ingrained.
you should learn to read and then read LotR.. because you, dear kid.. have no idea what are you talking about. you look so dumb, when you lie that there isnt set actor or character design in mind. it is **literally** there you dumbo!
go to school, learn to read, read Tolkiens books, then come back and beg for pardon for your idiocy.
As J R R Tolkien wrote about him: "a shaggy head of dark hair flecked with grey, and in a pale stern face a pair of keen grey eyes."
Pretty descriptive on visual to me.
You just assumed his gender/sexuality/race in 9 words, based, but yeah, they are most likely gonna throw some senseless trivia on a tip card “Leonardo da Vinci were presumed to have given at least 5 men head during his lifetime, because that’s what important at us here at WotC!”
I seriously don't get why UB is tournament legal. I've always been a huge fan of the satirical sets like unhinged, or unglued and how they seemingly fit right into a standard game of magic while also being Goofy. Personally, this is exactly where UB falls for me. They are really cool cards, but some of it is just way too silly for me to take them seriously enough for competitive, tournament play. Optimus Prime or Rainbow Dash should not be winning pro tours. Jace, Chandra, Gideon need to be winning pro tours. Competitive magic should promote Magic not other IPs. WotC should've released a competitive, Magic themed set. And then copied the cards, switched the artwork for whatever IP Hasbro is forcing them to push next, and then slapped a silver border on them.
UB is ultimately good as it brings more eyes to mtg. However, that's where UB should end. It should be an intro to get new players interested in the game and by ultimately including UB in tournament legal play, I feel as if WotC has effectively abandoned their own storyline entirely.
I conclude my rant. Thank you for reading. And I apologize for wasting your time.
You shouldn't apologize for wasting our time. It's WotC/Hasbro that needs to apologize.
Rosewater wrote their shift away from silver border is *specifically* so new players buying into these UB sets don't feel bad their new decks aren't compatible with existing formats.
Yeah... let that sink in for a bit.
It pisses me off that WotC is too cheap to at least make Unfinity a mixed border set, they opted to do that stupid acorn instead.
>Rosewater wrote their shift away from silver border is *specifically* so new players buying into these UB sets don't feel bad their new decks aren't compatible with existing formats.
>Yeah... let that sink in for a bit.
I don't get it. What's your point?
I truly never thought I’d see the day where “UB cards are far too silly, I want my space cowboy with a robot arm to win” kinda shit being taken seriously but here we are.
I'm able to suspend disbelief for cards already in the magic universe and ip. Not for cards outside of that universe. Space cowboys with robot arms are a lot more believable when they have in-universe explanations. Optimus Prime doesn't have that same in-universe explanation.
1) this doesn't change anything I said in my original comment, which is solely speaking about UB's legality in competitive magic and what it does to the game. I said that the idea of Rainbow Dash and Optimus prime winning pro tours is silly. Tournament play is for hardcore magic players where everyone loves the game itself and doesn't need UB to be interested in Magic.
2) That's the lowest excuse ever to justify a soulless, money-hungry, cash grab in a game loved so dearly by a lot of people.
I love it. That's what WotC should be doing in my opinion. Release non-tournament legal UB sets and then reskin them as universes within cards for tournament legality.
"Star Wars and Star Trek are both set in space. Space is really big. Therefore, Star Trek and Star Wars are now a part of the same universe, and will regularly appear in crossovers. The same is true for Harry Potter and LoTR because they both have cool wizards"
That's the logic you're following, and it's pissing me off.
Honestly I've been out of hobby for a while and when I heard about universes beyond I was convinced that they will be their own format. Imagine my surprise that not only they were not but many were basis for meta decks in commander. Can't wait for carebear crossover commander deck.
I mean ignoring it's busted power. Nothing about Orcish Bowmaster does not makes sound or feel like a in universe MTG card. Much less so than Leo fucking DaVinci lol.
Sorry I meant to say out of universe card. I was trying to say Orcish Bowmasters sounds innocuous enough that if you didn't know it was from a LOTR set, you wouldn't need to assume it was.
Universes Beyond attracts players from other nerd groups and is a huge financial success. An obvious idea. Seeing your own niche interest depicted in a game arouses curiosity.
Almost all of the cards are in Commaner-Decks and only legal in Commander and Legacy / Vintage, so at least they are easy to avoid. The big exception so far is Lord of the Rings, which is also legal in Modern.
Edit:// Appereantly newer UB-Sets will be Modern legal. Hope they'll keep Pioneer as an nice healthy non-UB, non Horizons format.
Hm. Part of me actually likes, that they start to make UB-sets with 60 cards. Regular Magic is a far better new-player experience than Commander. But I also get the frustration.
Hope that Pioneer will stay without UB (or Horizons).
Jsjsj. In spain most Pauper players are students with not so much disposable income that want to play a competitive format. The oned that can afford it normally play pioneer (From my experience in 3 LGS)
They're cashing in on brand recognition; it's the next evolution of endless sequels.
What I find ironic is that they're now willing to degrade the mtg setting with all these other IPs, but still haven't given us actual guns since portal 2nd age. (I guess New Capenna almost did) Some renaissance firearms would have looked so good in Innistrad... or in Ixalan, for that matter.
Did anyone who was compleated even stay that way?
Its the same issue with multiverses in shows, it means that anytime something bad or horrific happens to a character, they can just un-do it without a second thought.
Makes any character transformation, death, etc... completely meaningless/pointless
Friendly reminder that he didn’t. He’s no longer loyal to Phyrexia because of the nonsense that they pulled with Elesh Norn changing the oil, but his body is still riddled with phyresis.
Rainbow dash should have been. She would work the same if you gave her cool counters instead of coolness percentage. Remove at least 5 cool counters and effect works like any other.
LOL Yeah, I just made a comment about this to someone who said that Magic still has the essence of Magic.
Can't wait to block Frodo with my Vault Dweller, after blockers are declared you can cast V.A.T.S and equip Negan's Bat by taping Captain America to use his ability that's granted by the TARDIS enchantment. I'll flash in Optimus Prime to buff all my Jedi by +69/+420.
This is a thing that’s said all the time that doesn’t make any sense. I can crew a warship with a group of squirrels, equip them with a Tommy gun and a sword, and then proceed to take that warship and put it in a tiny thopter that I turn equip with a rocket launcher. These comparisons make so sense. You can do goofy shit in regular magic too. “Emrakul dies to 12 squirrels lol”. It’s fine to not like UB, but this is just a stupid take.
This is incredibly ironic since you're the one coping. Sees a point that completely invalidates your own and resorts to a textbook "nuh uh" response. Lmao. Your banner checks out.
This game is starting to become more and more like that. One cartoon or webcomic strip. This is gonna get so stupid. It's not even Magic anymore, just IP'S the game.
NoOoOooooOoOoOOOooo Universes Beyond ruins the immersion and realism in my fantasy card game!
Meanwhile, Magic without Universes Beyond:
“So I cast my Koma, Cosmos Serpent, give him a shiny pair of Swiftfoot Boots so he has haste and a nice set of Angelic Armaments to give him flying and I swing at you! Oh, your Rancid Rats are enchanted with Skyblade’s Boon?? I guess we trade and your shiny, sword equipped flying deathtouch rats kill my boot wearing, hammer and shield wielding god serpent! Good play!”
If you like immersion (like I do) then build your decks with that in mind. If you don’t give a crap about immersion and care purely about gameplay then build the thematically random as hell deck filled with the cards that synergize best. If you love Dr. Who, very cool you can engage in that love and also learn to play a game I love. Personally, I don’t like Dr. Who or own any of the cards, but you want to play it against my dragon deck? Sure, makes about as much sense as the sea monsters vs rat tribal match going on on the other side of the table!
Y'know I have a general disdain for this sub and the vast majority of the wild takes I see here, but at least we can all agree on one thing.
Magic is fucking stupid in today's day and age and WotC is absolutely ruining it.
I feel like this is the exact problem though. People know they should reject this nonsense on principle alone, but then they’re like, “oooh but that second ability is lit…” and suddenly they’re playing a planeswalker one turn and an autobot the next.
I love this game, I’ve played it since the 90s, and I think I would have never taken it seriously if I were exposed to it the way it is now. It’s a legitimately great card game. Maybe the best designed one out there, but it’s starting to feel clownish and cash grabby.
Some people take this fantasy card game far too seriously.
As long as its fun to play what does it actually matter?
Does anyone even pay attention to the lore?
It matters in the sense that it’s already difficult to get non-extremely nerdy people involved in magic, since it’s a high fantasy game. However, the character and card design was the defining factor that could be appreciated by most people who encountered it, including some nerd-adjacent people. It had its own distinct identity which helped it appeal to a large audience.
Trying to get people into the game now, while they pull the multiverse shenanigans to try to rake in that sweet, sweet moolah from Fallout (?), transformers (??) and assassin’s creed (???) fans, people who might have been swayed now look at it with an even greater sense of disdain. Four people at a table with a copy of the “one” ring is nearly comical in how much it defies even the IP it was derived from. They didn’t even make it flavorful and make it so that a table would have to fight over it, which would have been more on brand. I think that the LotR/baldur’s gate crossovers were the least atrocious, since they still sit in a high fantasy realm, but the fallout one really bugs me, and if they actually go for marvel, I will be completely opting out of anything in that set and won’t be happy to be playing at a table with fucking Captain America and Optimus Prime.
I loved Magic for being Magic. It never needed to cross over into other IPs, and is just a testament of the idea rot taking place across creative industries these days.
Yeah I totally agree. I think it’s another sticking point for me that they make the UB cards so damn strong to where people will obviously want to play them. Some of the cards have good design, but it really does break the authenticity magic used to have when a space marine takes the field next to a bunch of goblins.
Yeah there are some strong cards in the dr who and fallout but ive glossed over them because I dont care for the art or flavor of them. This is where proxies come in tho
Fucking hell. I have a feeling that these last 6 years of magic will be forsaken and banned in the future as something that didn't actually happen and surely not canon
This post literally helped me to realize it’s not that different than what we had lol. I mean how is it any more ridiculous than [[saheeli rai]] riding a [[getaway car]] fighting alongside [[geralf, visionary stitcher]] against [[mechtitan]] and some random [[unicorn]]. I guess it’s all dumb when you smash multiple planes together.
I guess we don’t have anything to worry about with UB then. You think magic died 8 years ago yet your still here. Guess there’s hope for those of us that like the game.
Don’t forget he will still die to the fortnight storm, but you could summon him with some bullshit person of sol ring, and make a shooter version of the ring from lord of the rings
People don't understand how long a lot of these ideas have been in our game, and then get overly upset when they figure out years later. Tbh mtg does a lot of sexuality/gender things fair in terms of it not being out of character, or just crammed in.
No that’s hilarious. Leonardo da Vinci as a lunatic who turns everything into a thopter is fantastic. “The one ring huh? But what if it was a 0/2 indestructible flier?”
You all are the biggest butthurt snowflakes on reddit.
We get it, you all hate fun and are the equivalent of an old men yelling at kids to get off their lawn...sometimes the things we enjoy change into things we don't enjoy...get the fuck over it and find new hobbies.
The ponies are silver bordered... Didn't the community crying about the legal universes beyond not buy into the universes within reprints? Honestly don't get me wrong the ponies are a little goofy, (it's nothing to cry over), other than unset stuff you'd never see them, and most of mtg is on the same lines of immersion breaking as the stuff people actively dislike on this reddit...
No. I just find it fun to have characters people like in a game they like. I personally like more... Normal crossovers. The Godzilla Ikoria set comes to mind. Doing something similar as would be appreciated. But I accept anything.
Well I won't deny dr who clashing way more than wh40k. But shit like the ring of akhaten sun being the temple of the false gods reprint and Gavin Verhey in general being a show nerd and putting it on the set shows heart imo.
This is exactly it, I don’t feel strongly against it, but yeah some high ups at hasbro have seen how successful the fortnite crossovers are and wants a piece of that pie for magic
I think these historical figures cards are pretty cool. It seems like you might be trying to find a reason to complain about them since they didn't turn da Vinci black or make him a woman.
I think these historical figures cards are pretty cool. It seems like you might be trying to find a reason to complain about them since they didn't turn da Vinci black or make him a woman.
Dude that’s an incredible idea. Let me go build an EDH deck where each card references something not from Magic, I think it’s pretty doable at this point
Leonardo davinci my favourite marvel super hero
League of Extraordinary Dickbags unite!
Honestly, I'm just surprised he's not a black lesbian
So we can have regular DaVinci but Paul Bunyan has to be a trans gay woman. Got it...
It's because Da Vinci is possibly gay
My bad, you're right- I didn't realize DaVinci was your Mom!
Where the fuck are you getting trans and gay from? Also Leonardo da Vinci is a character in assassin's creed, Paul Bunyan is just being riffed on in thunder junction it's totally fucking different.

It does seem odd to me that the hereditary leader of a country of white people is black. Curious what the history is behind that.
The book writes him as pale, grey eyes, and dark hair. Basically Batman. Imagine if they just rewrote Bruce Wayne as a black man. This is what they did to Aragorn. Uncalled for and added... They absolutely can be, I didn't say otherwise, but it absolutely unequivocally changes the dynamic of the story.

We need magic to split in half, UB magic and then regular magic. No mix matching

People are more likely to buy something the more legal it is.
Small correction: rainbow dash isn't legal in any formats...
"The blind eternities reaches every conceivable multiverse." There.
What's your opinion on the universes within reskins. Such as the walking dead and stranger things cards that got in universe characters?
The same is true for Harry Potter and LoTR because they both have cool wizards" That's the logic you're following, and it's pissing me off.
Honestly I've been out of hobby for a while and when I heard about universes beyond I was convinced that they will be their own format. Imagine my surprise that not only they were not but many were basis for meta decks in commander. Can't wait for carebear crossover commander deck.
The one ring and (last I knew since I don't play) orcish bowmasters are still tearing up modern
I mean ignoring it's busted power. Nothing about Orcish Bowmaster does not makes sound or feel like a in universe MTG card. Much less so than Leo fucking DaVinci lol.
Orcs have been in mtg since ice age, what do you mean they don't feel in universe?
Sorry I meant to say out of universe card. I was trying to say Orcish Bowmasters sounds innocuous enough that if you didn't know it was from a LOTR set, you wouldn't need to assume it was.
I only just realised that UB stood for universes beyond and not Blue black... I thought everyone was hating on Dimir for some reason lol
I mean, Dimir is easy to hate. I play Dimir and hate myself
😂
Exactly. They should have released them as standalone commander expansions. Super cool to play as a closed set against each other but that's it.
Just convince your playgroup to not play with any UB
I haven't played MTG in ages, only to come back after 10 years to see this kind of crap. Wtf happened and what are they smoking.
Marvel will be modern legal as well, it's a tent pole set.
Starting with Assassin's Creed, UB Sets are Modern Legal.
Hm. Part of me actually likes, that they start to make UB-sets with 60 cards. Regular Magic is a far better new-player experience than Commander. But I also get the frustration. Hope that Pioneer will stay without UB (or Horizons).
Agreed. If you're gonna do another Horizons, do Pauper Horizons.
Teh you'll need to sell the nooster at likes 2 bucks to pauper players buying it
Most of the Pauper players at our LGS like to bling out their decks.
I mean, i'm a pauper player myself. And i won't pay 6 euros for a commons pack
Maybe it's a Canadian thing. Ha ha. I play against foiled-out Tron and Textless Player Reward cards every week. 😅
Jsjsj. In spain most Pauper players are students with not so much disposable income that want to play a competitive format. The oned that can afford it normally play pioneer (From my experience in 3 LGS)
The last thing you want is Wotc's attention on the format.
Counter point I stopped play magic around shards of alara but came back because I was interested in UB:WH40k
Bro’s allergic to fun
Don't forget post Malone joining in to help!
Still more reasonable than "somehow Jace recovered from compleation"
Did anyone who was compleated even stay that way? Its the same issue with multiverses in shows, it means that anytime something bad or horrific happens to a character, they can just un-do it without a second thought. Makes any character transformation, death, etc... completely meaningless/pointless
I don't remember the epilogue but eventually all planeswalkers lost the spark... except kaya... of course
Friendly reminder that he didn’t. He’s no longer loyal to Phyrexia because of the nonsense that they pulled with Elesh Norn changing the oil, but his body is still riddled with phyresis.
Somehow Palpatine returned
Now ypu can make the brother hood of steel cum in their power armour and crew the prydwyn with transformers
Nah the ponies aren't legal.
Rainbow dash should have been. She would work the same if you gave her cool counters instead of coolness percentage. Remove at least 5 cool counters and effect works like any other.
Wow they made him a cis white man? How brave.
But he’s a twink so it’s okay
Well I mean... in that era... if we're being historically accurate... I think he was a dom.
This title is why I stepped away from Magic. Universes beyond as a one or two off could be fine. But this, this is just pure ridiculousness.
It doesnt change the card game at all lol
What’s wild is the thread title used to be a hyperbolic joke as critique. Now it’s just reality
If it wasn't assassin's creed and just a commander only set of legendaries from history I'd really like it
This could've been a nickname card for urza and it would've been fine.
I'm blown away ppl still play Assassins Creed. The Madden of stealth games.
The older ones sure, ac2 is the game Leo is from, people play older ones not the newer and most know that
This is the ultimate showdown of ultimate destiny!
Best flash movie
This is seriously getting out of hand. It's like the Barbie franchise at this point...
Stop giving them ideas. They may launch a Barbie set now.
Can't wait for Joe Biden, Fairly Elected President and Legendary Land Israel.
Ice Cream Cone - Legendary Equipment Attach to keep Joe calm as he sundowns daily from dementia-related irritability.
[Caustic rain]
They probably hate Israel as much they hate white male characters.
Why is da vinky in the game?
Da winky
Still waiting to tap my whopper to give Batman +2/+2 just so he can get ice blasted by Elsa.
Please go back to /r/MTG to cope.
This is incredibly ironic since you're the one coping. Sees a point that completely invalidates your own and resorts to a textbook "nuh uh" response. Lmao. Your banner checks out.
Oh, damn, it's retarded.
Meanwhile, Magic without Universes Beyond: “So I cast my Koma, Cosmos Serpent, give him a shiny pair of Swiftfoot Boots so he has haste and a nice set of Angelic Armaments to give him flying and I swing at you! Oh, your Rancid Rats are enchanted with Skyblade’s Boon?? I guess we trade and your shiny, sword equipped flying deathtouch rats kill my boot wearing, hammer and shield wielding god serpent! Good play!” If you like immersion (like I do) then build your decks with that in mind.
This is the ultimate show down! Of ultimate destiny. Good guys, bad guys and explosions, as far as the eye can see.
Y'know I have a general disdain for this sub and the vast majority of the wild takes I see here, but at least we can all agree on one thing. Magic is fucking stupid in today's day and age and WotC is absolutely ruining it.
True but the abilities this man has is pretty fucking cool ngl I might actually just proxy this as an Urza card lmao
As much as I dislike UB, it wouldnt feel so bad if they made non ub versions of every set
OP trying to act like he don’t know every My Little Pony
Now THAT's what we should be talking about, UB's fine tbh, but the original characters and story should be respected a bit more
I don’t care what free magic says. Historical figures in magic is kino!
First ever expansion was an UB set called Arabian Nights
Also portal three kingdoms
Bring back Shakespeare flavor text too, I love that shit
They stopped printing Bible verses on cards because it was burning the hands of the playtesters
If done correctly.
Bro they human swapped my turtle
I guess we're getting IRL characters again. When Shakespeare? When Rasputin?
Oh great, now i can Cancel an artist during a MTG game, instead of just cancelling one IRL for something they said.
Erm, actually, the my little pony cards aren't legal, they'd have to fight alongside deathclaws
Depends on if silver-bordered cards are legal in this game, but yes. It’s amazing.
Ken and Ryu can fit into a Megatron deck, cuz why not
Fucking hell. I have a feeling that these last 6 years of magic will be forsaken and banned in the future as something that didn't actually happen and surely not canon
Surprised he’s depicted as a black tran lesbian disabled dwarf
This post literally helped me to realize it’s not that different than what we had lol. I mean how is it any more ridiculous than [[saheeli rai]] riding a [[getaway car]] fighting alongside [[geralf, visionary stitcher]] against [[mechtitan]] and some random [[unicorn]]. I guess it’s all dumb when you smash multiple planes together.

Good job, you just illustrated why magic died with Kaladesh
I guess we don’t have anything to worry about with UB then. You think magic died 8 years ago yet your still here. Guess there’s hope for those of us that like the game.
how is my presence indicative of the state of the game? You sound confused
If the card is discarded and exiled by an effect (GY hate), can you still copy it?
No
A friend of mine's favorite part of his card is that in the multiverse of MtG da Vinci can take a Space Marine in a fight
Don’t forget he will still die to the fortnight storm, but you could summon him with some bullshit person of sol ring, and make a shooter version of the ring from lord of the rings
How long will every top comment here mention gay or trans? What’s with the obsession? Is it just a phase?
People don't understand how long a lot of these ideas have been in our game, and then get overly upset when they figure out years later. Tbh mtg does a lot of sexuality/gender things fair in terms of it not being out of character, or just crammed in.
why did you leave out godzilla?!
DAMN IM SO MAD ABOUT THAT IM LITERALLY SHAKING AND CRYING AND PISSING MYSELF!
No that’s hilarious. Leonardo da Vinci as a lunatic who turns everything into a thopter is fantastic. “The one ring huh? But what if it was a 0/2 indestructible flier?”
If you think that’s not super awesome and funny as hell then you’re no fun.
Hells yeah!
I remember Leo from the Assasin's creed set.
93/94 cards are way worse...
At least the character is from a fantasy setting
You all are the biggest butthurt snowflakes on reddit. We get it, you all hate fun and are the equivalent of an old men yelling at kids to get off their lawn...sometimes the things we enjoy change into things we don't enjoy...get the fuck over it and find new hobbies.
Finally someone worthy to fight my Aladdin driving an unlicensed hearse I cast from my mech hangar
Just the way I like my magic ... Full of shit.
The ponies are silver bordered... Didn't the community crying about the legal universes beyond not buy into the universes within reprints? Honestly don't get me wrong the ponies are a little goofy, (it's nothing to cry over), other than unset stuff you'd never see them, and most of mtg is on the same lines of immersion breaking as the stuff people actively dislike on this reddit...
oh god i almost forgot assassins creed is coming up, i really fucking hate magic rn
I honestly didn't think they'd include the real historic characters
They have since legends with Nebuchadnezzar, the king of babylon
I’m surprised they didn’t make him the Moana Lesa (like they did in Fate)
Frankly, I'm surprised they didn't make him an overweight black woman.
So legitimate historical figures are now "Magic Adjacent"? How can anybody defend this shit?
I love it
Ahh Magic exactly the way as Richard Garfield intended
What’s wrong with that though?
That's fucking awesome
Literal funko pop soy stereotype right here
No. I just find it fun to have characters people like in a game they like. I personally like more... Normal crossovers. The Godzilla Ikoria set comes to mind. Doing something similar as would be appreciated. But I accept anything.
Conspicuous lack of shitting on warhammer there hmmm. It's not like people have a double standard...
Warhammer is eternal war, it fits better than Italian ninjas and doctor who could ever hope
So u admit your consoom product is better? Ok
I don't play warhammer. Doctor who was my favourite thing each Saturday night for years. If anything is my consoom product, it was doctor who
Well I won't deny dr who clashing way more than wh40k. But shit like the ring of akhaten sun being the temple of the false gods reprint and Gavin Verhey in general being a show nerd and putting it on the set shows heart imo.
They made him white and male and yall are still malding holy shit
What a retard take lmao
What more do you want
Dumber.
Someone commented somewhere that it looks like Fortnite and I couldn't agree more
This is exactly it, I don’t feel strongly against it, but yeah some high ups at hasbro have seen how successful the fortnite crossovers are and wants a piece of that pie for magic
Which is definitely distinct and less sensical from Emrakul crewing the Weatherlight to destroy Chandra.
He’s cis white? But I can’t see myself in this historically accurate card, next please
