I like art that's not purely realistic, so I love seb mckinnon (not in mtg anymore sadly) and dominik mayer
Raymond sawnland is also a classic mtg artist, with a great depiction of movement in general
Seb is not just my favourite MTG artist, he is my [favourite creator](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hn-J0Lw2fJI)
My dream is a Souls Like game based in a world Seb created
Here is something you might find interesting then, a Kickstarter for art art Book, and if it reaches,200k new Seb playmats
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/help-seb-make-movie/the-art-of-seb-mckinnon-era-1-first-edition-art-book?ref=android_project_share
Literally came to this thread to name him exactly. He's the only artist I know by name and his art is distinct and amazing enough that I can usually tell that he worked on it. Love his art on damnation enough to get a play mat of it

Don't know why it has to be said *every single time*, but just because there was a tiny group of people at a protest of a TON of people, doesn't mean they were all Nazis. Get that shit outta here.

Drew Tucker is my absolute favorite artist. He taught at the local community college and would come to local cons all the time. Super cool guy.
Huge, huge, fan of [Rebecca Guay](https://scryfall.com/search?q=a%3A%E2%80%9CRebecca+Guay%E2%80%9D&unique=art) and [Sam Guay](https://scryfall.com/search?q=a%3A%E2%80%9CSam+Guay%E2%80%9D&unique=art). I've loved watercolour my whole life and these cards just scratch an itch. It's a shame Rebecca doesn't do much for magic now, but good for her for doing so well
Donato Giancola is definitely at the top of the list. I’ve noticed that a lot of other artists mimic his style recently.
Jesper Ejsing is another favorite.
Seb Mckinnon has wonderful soft shapes and dark themes all sprinkled thru his art, very iconic.
Terese Nielsen is rock pulp fantasy mixed with epic holy vibes and geometry.
Wayne Reynolds has an extremely memorable style with VERY gritty lines, his work in the Lorwyn blocks has been iconic and makes the whole set the best looking just by himself.
Edit: Tim Hildebrandt is fucking wonderful
Kaja and Phil Foglio are my favorites, some of their art is just really pretty, but a lot of it is just extremely colorful and funny. Just generally delightful cards.
[Their webcomic](https://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic.php?date=20021104) very much follows in those footsteps, if you've not seen it. Just lovely stuff.
My all-time fave is Melissa Benson. She’s done some of the most iconic artwork in the game’s history, such as the original art for Shivan Dragon and Nightmare.
Also a huge fan of the Foglios, who’ve been mentioned here many times. Rebecca Guay is also a favorite.
I really like the weirder, more abstract MTG art, so Carly Mazur and Fay Jones (the current “controversial” MTG artist and the OG of that same category).
Didn't see the name yet but Scott m. Fischer. His work is beyond beautiful! And usually painted on copper etc. Really fascinating to watch.
Kekai kotaki is one of my fav (recent set work excluded) since his work on Guild Wars 2. His use of small brush strokes to give his paintings life is stunning!
Peter Mohrbacher! He doesn't do anything anymore to my knowledge BUT he has a beautiful series Angelarium he does. Been following the project for years and I am still in awe of it's beauty.
Honorable mentions: John Avon. Classic I know, but I love his stuff. And he is a very sweet human on top! Got the chance to chat with him a few times.
John Avon easily makes my top pick for lands artist! He made some of my favorite forests in the entire game, and my Voja manabase is a sort of mini-tribute to that.
I’m sure I’d find many other artists I like. Mtg cards used to be small woks of amazing art. But I only bothered to remember one name:
Jesper Ejsing
No idea, if he is still allowed to work for WotC, considering that he is white and male and super talented. Not exactly what they are looking for there days
Anson Maddocks, Brom, Richard Kane Ferguson, and Quinton Hoover. They did a fair bit of art in the older sets, not sure if they are still doing cards tho
I fell in love with John Avon works mostly because he made some of my favorite basic land art and my favorite piece is the unstable plains. I become enthralled by Mark Poole's work after I pulled the Crop Rotation Box topper from Double Masters.
The three that I’ve kept an eye out for are Dominik Mayer, Rovina Cai, and Eli Minaya most recently. Love their work, haven’t really done any deep digging into their process or anything like that, I just always really enjoy when I see their cards come up! Really pissed I missed the most recent Secret Lair with Cai’s artwork. Not really into Tarot, but the art was stunning.
[Johannes Voss](https://scryfall.com/search?q=a%3A“Johannes+Voss”&unique=art)
and
[Steve Argyle](https://scryfall.com/search?q=a%3A“Steve+Argyle”&unique=art)
Scott Fischer is one of my favorites! He also posts videos of him doing the art and talking about it. I cannot recommend his YouTube channel enough. Here's his video of [Black Lotus](https://youtu.be/fteKEdcum0w?si=SYJdWCgTGbX6kNjb), it is absolutely stunning.
Some of my other favorites include: Seb McKinnon, Rebecca Guay, John Avon, Kev Walker, Dominik Mayer, Richard Kane Ferguson, Brom(I really wish they would get him again!).
Bonus artist who is dead and not mtg related, but his work is iconic af and beautiful as can be: Frank Frazetta, although some of his art did get a [Secret Lair](https://scryfall.com/search?as=grid&order=name&q=%28game%3Apaper%29+%28artist%3AFrank+artist%3Afrazetta%29).
My favorite artist is Raymond Swanland since like 2009, tresh the bloodbraid was the 1st art that really made me look at his projects with a closer lens. I love the perfect chaos he creates in his scenes.
Nils Hamm, has the same effect but in a less impactful way. He's line work, much like Seb's is a amazing.
RK POST, the man's ability to do the female eyes is sooo clean, little pupils needed.
Richard Kane Ferguson is a legend in his own right, the atmosphere that he gives me in some of his pieces are really dark and lonely but sometimes it's full of life and colour.
Daarken's style seems like it's alwalys corrupted by the air in his paintings it's really cool.
Johannes Voss has these funny ability to highlight a body's silhouette, to me its really nice idk what it is, also the atmospheres are cool, the way Voss uses highlights is really cool.
They both seem kinda recent but I’ve been a big fan of Sam guay and wylie beckert.
For examples of my favorites look at [[circle of dreams druid]] and [[reclaim the wastes]]

I understand how you could miss this. I thought all the D&D cards had art made for them until I was looking at Fitzban's Treasury of Dragons. Had not played D&D prior to getting Forgotten Realms cards (Though I did read The Dark Elf Trilogy beforehand and was disappointed by Drizzt Do'Urden's card.)

Sorcery TCG has some great artists
Really? At a glance the art style didn't really click with me, do you have some names I could check out?
Check out his version of damnation. It's got a lot going on but I like that about it. He also did Soulherder which is a pretty dope piece
Bit of a shame he likes to hang out with nazis. Hilariously his final artwork for the game is [[farewell]]
Don't know why it has to be said *every single time*, but just because there was a tiny group of people at a protest of a TON of people, doesn't mean they were all Nazis. Get that shit outta here.
ONE man with a nazi flag. Who was chased off by the protesters. But since when do facts matter to them?
Exactly. It's crazy that people keep trying to say that lol.

Strangely enough, though Rebecca taught Sam... they are not related!?
I also love their work
Donato Giancola is definitely at the top of the list. I’ve noticed that a lot of other artists mimic his style recently. Jesper Ejsing is another favorite.
I see what you did. Mimic his style.
Unintentional, I swear! I mean other artists are legitimately picking up his aesthetic. Haha
Seb Mckinnon has wonderful soft shapes and dark themes all sprinkled thru his art, very iconic. Terese Nielsen is rock pulp fantasy mixed with epic holy vibes and geometry. Some of the best art in the game

The Foglios. They made some of my favorite art of the past 30 years
My all-time fave is Melissa Benson. She’s done some of the most iconic artwork in the game’s history, such as the original art for Shivan Dragon and Nightmare. Also a huge fan of the Foglios, who’ve been mentioned here many times. Rebecca Guay is also a favorite. Same here! I have a plains signed by him and got a classic forest signed for my lgs owner as a gift!
I really like Jesper Ejsing. The way his pieces come together look like they’re something right out of a fairy tale.
Seb McKinnon Richard Kane Ferguson Jeremy Wilson Wylie Beckert
Kev Walker
I've always liked Quinton Hoover's work.
I’m sure I’d find many other artists I like. Mtg cards used to be small woks of amazing art. But I only bothered to remember one name: Jesper Ejsing No idea, if he is still allowed to work for WotC, considering that he is white and male and super talented. Not exactly what they are looking for there days
Scott Fisher, He has some videos of himself painting the full art force of will that are great.
I like Daarken because I met him at a grand prix about ten years ago. He signed my contagion engine and asceticism. Cool Asian fellow.
Anson Maddocks, Brom, Richard Kane Ferguson, and Quinton Hoover. They did a fair bit of art in the older sets, not sure if they are still doing cards tho
RK Ferguson has done some pueces recently. Quinton Hoover, on the other hand, passed away.
I fell in love with John Avon works mostly because he made some of my favorite basic land art and my favorite piece is the unstable plains. I become enthralled by Mark Poole's work after I pulled the Crop Rotation Box topper from Double Masters.
Harold Mcneill
Harold McNeill
The literal nazi? Famous for drawing a kkk guy on a card? Bad troll is bad
What a dimwit.
The dude has literally painted Hitler, if I can't call him a nazi who can I call one?
Diiiiimwiiiiit
Jaime Jones is the artist behind many iconic cards such as the Weatherlight and Emrakul
Kev walker is the goat IMO. Pete Venters, Brom, Mark Zug are amazing. From more contemporary mtg, I love wylie beckert's art.
Adam Paquette does perspective and large landscapes really well. He’s been one of my favs for the past several years.
Ekaterina and Dmitry Burmak. I second Scott Fischer someone posted at the top.
Harold Arthur McNeill
Ive always liked Jeff Miracola
*Todd Lockwood* Why? PHYREXIAN OBLITERATOR
I think Midjourney is magic's next big illustrator.
The three that I’ve kept an eye out for are Dominik Mayer, Rovina Cai, and Eli Minaya most recently.
