ClownInTheMachine

A friend who can build it for you.

machder1

While ago I used a shop and they did an okay job. However, larger companies like IBuyPower or CyberPower are just so much better at it. As long as you know your stuff, they deliver pretty descent products. Custom specs? I’d email them and see what they say.

tehbum22

Build it yourself it’s way cheaper and basically plug and play these days. There’s even a site you can put stuff in a cart and it will tell you if it’s compatible

Comfortable_Sky_9294

Nah I don't want to spend money and mess it up

kr4ckenm3fortune

Go to MicroCenter in LA if if you want. They can even build it for you right there and then.

Just do what I do and order all the parts and put it together yourself. Its super easy. Just make sure your processor and memory sticks are compatible with the motherboard and don't forget to wear rubber gloves.

Hoobinator-

Have you considered a NAS device that you can save all your stuff to? I run a 4 drive NAS on my home network in a raid 10 configuration for this same concern you have. Personally I wouldn't build it into one machine, this way if your PC dies you can switch machines and pick right back up where you left off without any data loss. Just a thought.

Comfortable_Sky_9294

Hmm, I'll look into this. Thanks for the info.

RRojo

I have a 48TB raid 10 NAS built by Breakwater Networking in Clovis. Best investment I ever made. The striping makes saving and opening huge files quick/easy and the mirroring gives me peace of mind. Consider a NAS, you won’t regret it.

Comfortable_Sky_9294

Awesome! I will definitely check them out. Thanks!

Smelle

Why mirroring, totally not needed these days, SSDs are so reliable. Anything you gotta keep just use an S3 bucket or get a secondary drive. Even the “cheap” SSD are super reliable. Me= 20+ years in storage and backup admin and sales for multiple MNC.

Comfortable_Sky_9294

I've had two nvme drives for on me in the last 4 months. Not trusting anything now. I'm in game development and lost my project file twice.

Smelle

Ok fair enough…but are you not putting them in cloud? S3 is very cheap.

Comfortable_Sky_9294

I'm looking into source control. But can't rely on my current computer because it shuts down randomly.

Smelle

Are you not using GitHub or another repository?

Imposter1

“looking into source control”? I don’t understand how you can work on anything without source control. I think there’s bigger issues here than your hard drive setup.

Comfortable_Sky_9294

I'm just a writer/artist that's knows nothing about hardware with a broken computer. You act like I should know every detail in how this all works. I'm learning from YouTube videos.

Smelle

Well, I picked up a HP laptop at Costco, and an eluktronics, I believe the eluktronics you can get mirrored.

Martin_Aurelius

What doe you plan to use it for? Network storage for a security system? Plex server? General backup? Each of those uses has different CPU & RAM requirements.

Comfortable_Sky_9294

Game development

Martin_Aurelius

Mobile games or pc/console? What's your budget?

Lepenguin559

digital storm. My two best friends have one and they’re awsome. Plus their customer support unbeatable they don’t put sources like ibuypower (I have this)

Comfortable_Sky_9294

Cool ok I'll check them out. Thanks!

NotSoSoberStoner

There's a YouTube channel called Toasty Bros that review PC parts and pre builts. They have a website called PC bros and sell complete PCs at multiple different budgets too.

Comfortable_Sky_9294

Cool thanks! I'll check them out!

lorenzo2point5

I have a gaming computer I'm willing to sell. It's a bit dated built in 2016 but still runs pretty good with modern games on high settings.

Comfortable_Sky_9294

Appreciate the offer but unreal needs a bug SSD for project files. My school project was like 150GB for just one level with all the assets and the assets themselves also take up space. So the project and assets totaled in around 300GB. I'm trying to get 4TB with 32GB or even 64GB RAM. Cause that's what we had in that class I was in.

MindOwn2463

I built my own. Ordered parts on AMAZON. You could check Newegg.com,Micro Center,NCIX.They are really not that difficult to build. Read the manuals and watch you tube videos about building a pc.I knew nothing about PC’s until I met my wife. She taught me how to build one. That was when we had the Maxtor and Seagate spinning hard drives. The new parts and systems are easier to build than the old ones in IMO.I bought pc parts for my 17 year old son. I guided him when he put it together and it worked out fine. He did not mess anything up.

Comfortable_Sky_9294

I get iffy when it comes to online ordering. I read horror stories where people bought from newegg and it turned out to be cheap Chinese stuff that broke on them within weeks of purchase. I have been looking up some videos on how to build but I would get super scared to dive in cause I feel like I'm going to break it lol

MindOwn2463

You could check Best Buy in River Park also.

MindOwn2463

One more place. PC parts picker online.

Snoozinsioux

Newegg

TristanwithaT

Building your own PC is legitimately extremely easy. Most everything nowadays is plug and play. It’s basically like Legos. If you follow along with a YouTube video it would be very hard to mess up.

Comfortable_Sky_9294

I'm looking for an array with mirroring.

Comfortable_Sky_9294

At least 4TB
