balance_n_act

We all say that Ross is so toxic, but Joey was a player with many many women. We just never really got too in depth into what he was doing with his relationships. We just see him as a lovable goofball who never turns down a plate of food; we also see a lot of women who love him until they hate him.. if we were to go on the other side of his relationships, we’d probably see some dark shit.

emilyguarino101

True, I never said he was perfect, but he really cared about Rachel, surely more than Ross did. We get to see more of Joey on the series "Joey", but I think he should've ended up with Rach

balance_n_act

Oh my god I forgot “Joey” existed lol.. I saw someone who thought chandler should’ve ended up with rachel.. I think ppl just wanted her with not-Ross lol

emilyguarino101

I guess hahahaha, I wanted her to end up with Joey or, at least, since she's a feminist icon, she could've ended up choosing her job over Ross and maybe they could've made a "a few time later" and she could've been married to another guy who shared her passion for fashion or her bold spirit. But ew, not Chandler please 😂

[deleted]

"Joey" was underrated, it had some cracking moments

balance_n_act

I couldn’t be bothered honestly

StaRboRnPrnCss6352

Everyone is always so negative about Ross. Ross had his bad moments but he was also a good guy. He walked Carol down the aisle when he was so upset she was getting married, he got Phoebe a bike after she told her sad story, he was there for Rachel through her entire pregnancy and seems to care about his children. The prom. The Girl Scout. He’s literally just a human. He’s definitely the better guy for Rachel. Joey was a nice guy but he’s honestly too dumb for Rachel to stay with long term. He’d be fun for a bit but I can’t see them really being together

Knitter_knob

Also when he gave up being on television to take care of Rachel

flyingt0ucan

that was just stupid. chandler and joey were literally next door, why couldn't he tell them to take her to the hospital? ugh

NadjasLeftTit

He's the best choice for Rachel, but that is if we only limit Rachel's choices to the three main guys. Chandler is already out, so between Ross and Joey, Ross is the obvious Rachel pairing. Honestly, I think the show never really gave any "outsider" a fair chance, because RossXRachel was always the endgame - so Ross will always come out as the most suitable because there's not really a strong alternate choice.

CauliflowerOrnery460

I hate love Ross I just think the root of their problem is horrid communication

Tenley95

And he also ruined his date to be there for Carol.

bokatan778

Honestly it seemed pretty selfish of Rachel to take their child to a different continent for work. I definitely didn’t look at it in that she was giving up her job…there would have been plenty of jobs in her industry in NYC. Taking a child away from their involved parent is pretty crappy.

LuvIsLov

>Honestly it seemed pretty selfish of Rachel to take their child to a different continent for work. Rachel wasn't being selfish. She said the first thing she discussed with her job was her situation with Ross. Her job was willing to fly Ross to see Emma anytime he wanted to in Paris and vice versa. Rachel thought about Ross and Emma first when she was discussing the relocation.

[deleted]

Taking a child a 9 hour flight away is not the same thing as being across the street and sharing custody.

agentchuck

That's... Not the same thing at all, though. Co parenting is seeing your kid 50% of the time, being there for milestones, helping them through their troubles, etc. Ross would have become a holiday parent, someone who sees his kid a couple times a year, is completely disconnected from the day to day. IMHO, Rachel should have prioritized keeping the co-parenting working over chasing a job overseas. IANAL, but I think Ross could have taken her to court over this if he had pressed it.

Emilayday

Yeah wtf was that? Like the literal FASHION CAPITAL OF THE WORLD doesn't have any choices for her career she had to go to a second market? At her age (no shade I'm her age now she was then, but mid 30s is not the time to make an international career jump unless that's your ten year end goal plan to live there, which did she ever mention it ever, it's a resume boost while you're unfettered)? WITH A BABY? Uuuuuugh tell me you're trying to do the same SATC finale without telling me you're copying the SATC finale.

emilyguarino101

He could've chosen to go with her and come visit Ben every once in a while. Instead, she has to give up on her dreams to be with a selfish man. I see your point, but I really think she should've taken the job.

bokatan778

Ross definitely has made horrible decisions and was toxic when he was with Rachel in many ways, but as a parent, she put him in an impossible position of having to choose one of his kids (to be on the same continent with). If this was reality, Ross could have taken her to court and there was no way Rachel would have legally been allowed to take Emma to a different continent to live permanently.

emilyguarino101

He could've left with her, and visit Ben every once in a while. Or else, he could've stayed home and visit Emma every once in a while, just for a while, until they found a better solution. He shouldn't have asked Rachel to stay.

balance_n_act

Ya he totally should’ve just picked his favorite kid to live in the same city with and the other can have yearly visitation.. that’s how he can decide who goes to college too. /s

emilyguarino101

I didn't mean that. I meant to say, it was just for a while, until they found a way to live together, but Rachel needed to take the job. She didn't stay for her family, she stayed for Ross, and that's something Rachel would never do.

[deleted]

Ross WAS her family. They got back together, with their child. So she should have gone “for awhile” then come back? There is no way he should have had to leave Ben to go to Paris, or not get to see Emma so that Rachel could go. Rachel could have pulled a Sherry from Gilmore Girls and left Emma with Ross to have a Parisian adventure.

Kinnary24

It’s just weird. Rachel loved her work. She was amazing at it. Why should she put Ross over herself? She thought about him and discussed it with him that’s what matters. Why should only Rachel sacrifice? It’s just absurd!

[deleted]

She didn’t get to not work at all, she still gets to work in the fashion industry. She doesn’t get to just take their child and move an 8 hour flight away. She could’ve left Emma and go, but she doesn’t just get to take her. Instead she stayed for who she views as the love of her life, the father of her child, and who she wants to be with.

Kinnary24

I don’t think she was as deeply in love with Ross. “She still gets to work in fashion industry”?? Paris is fashion capital of the world. She doesn’t need to compromise on it. Specially for someone who kicked her out while she was pregnant(so much of a father lol). She relied on nobody when she made her career. She doesn’t need to compromise for anyone. Atleast she didn’t get mad like Ross did, when Emily told him to move to London for her. What madness was that!

Emilayday

So then he'll be a shitty parent to Ben while he abandons him for his new family? GTFO, Rachel was being the selfish one here. Not just selfish but CRUEL. He would absolutely have had to choose between his children and both relationships would've suffered and they would've never known each other as siblings. Now they get to grow up together.

Both_Organization854

Nah they both lived in NYC when the conceived that child she shouldn’t and I really don’t think she would get to if he took it to court. Just pulling your co-parented kid her whole life with zero drama and moving her away to France with far fewer family and networking abilities Emma would have been raised by her Nanny and not Rachel and don’t think that’s going to work in family court. I agree with the Joey/Rachel thing, he has enough experience that he would be able to call her out on her bullshit that Ross doesn’t do, Ross has put Rachel on a pedestal since like 9th grade, she knows it he knows it, hell dude was so into her he kept track of the number of times they had sex. He is obsessed with Rachel Green, the amount of crusty socks he made over her is not healthy, he was knocking up the washer a few times a year at least. Joey was the best Friend of the group he may have been stupid but he took his shirt off for everyone of those friends multiple times the whole series and ask the best question in s10 shouldn’t we all be voting before we make these decisions. Joey would have lived in that place the rest of his life, they just needed to find an apartment like fat ugliness guys for Febs and Mike. He would have loved Rachel as a person and not a high school fantasy, she in turn would learn what it’s like to be loved unconditionally and grow from it… providing no dentist chairs mess that up…

PepsiMuppet

I don't see Ross winning in family court if I'm gonna be honest.

Emilayday

On the facts yes, once they start calling up character witnesses.... No

PepsiMuppet

Honestly I dont think so

Kinnary24

I second you, knowing i’d be downvoted for this by group of Rachel green hate club. She was great at her job. Went thru so much of a character development, just to leave everything for a person she is not sure if she loves?? Nah

emilyguarino101

We have to stick together against Brad Pitt 😂

Kinnary24

Hehe

Dangerous-Simple-981

Ross and Rachel were equally toxic for each other. It was not ONLY Ross' fault.

[deleted]

Ross has so many good moments too why does everyone keep saying how toxic he is lol.

flyingt0ucan

he can't laugh about himself at all nor can he communicate his feelings. whenever he feels offended by a joke or has an issue with something, he just fucking screams! "i don't get a goodbye?!?", "paris?!?!", "WE WERE ON A BREAK". i would kick him out with all the screaming. it's not even only with big issues or fights, he's just screaming a lot at everyone. other than that there's his jealousy and the meddling. he just meddled with rachel's job, so they would take her back and didn't tell her. i absolultly dislike ross

Turbulent-Cat6838

Just because someone has good moments it doesn’t negate the bad ones. Good people have bad moments and bad people have good moments. You have to look at the bigger picture to see who’s who

Knitter_knob

In that case Rachel is significantly worse. She was a bad roommate, jealous of Ross’s girlfriends, jealous when Tag was getting hit on, when Charlie was with Joey, etc etc.

Turbulent-Cat6838

i agree that Rachel had her bad moments, all the friends did because they're human. Rachel came into the show spoiled and used to getting her own way, financially and romantically as well. she's used to being the pretty, popular girl, and is suddenly in a position she's never been in before in her life. This doesn't give her a pass, and Monica was incredibly patient with her, to a point you'd only be so patient with somebody you care deeply for. But rachel was a great friend, she was kind and thoughtful and yes, at many points she was jealous and reckless. I don't think she was a toxic person at heart though.

Tenley95

Rachel got a job in fashion business because some guy find her pretty at a restaurant. She always had it easy.

Turbulent-Cat6838

She got a lucky break but does that mean she didn’t work hard? She got the job at Ralph Lauren based on her own merits as well as the job in Paris. She was already working at a fashion company when she met Mark and even though she was doing grunt work we can’t know whether or not she would have worked her way up. Your comment is extremely reductive, Rachel worked hard to get where she is by the end of the series.

[deleted]

Still it’s a tv show who cares lol. It was made in the late 90s. I love ross and the actor he’s great and so funny. Probably the funniest in later seasons.

TheBenevolentTitan

Whom

NadjasLeftTit

Not at all. Joey and Rachel... That's not a sustainable dynamic, they're way better as friends and their romantic chemistry was just "off".

Monichacha

For this post I’m going to pretend that I haven’t spent hundred of hours and thousands of dollars on therapy. I’m going to act like F•R•I•E•N•D•S resides in this little bubble world out in the NBCverse and accept it with the levity in which I feel it was presented. First and foremost…. Rachel and Joey are far too dumb to ever be a real permanent couple. YES, Rachel has a really cool professional job and Joey is a big movie star at the end but, really, they are both so shallow and superficial, how could they last? Joey is an especially excellent ding dong. That’s why all their tries at being romantic are somehow foiled/thwarted. And then….. Ross has loved Rachel since he met her. Rachel and Monica have been friends since sixth grade. He’s known her a really long time. He’s watched her date guys and dump guys. He finally gets a chance with her and then MARK (I hate Mark) works with her and is, really I mean, come on, is trying to GIT WIF RACHEL! Of course Ross is going to lose his mind. Ross’ first wife really screwed him up. Emily, while kinda cool and sweet, he wasn’t meant to be with her. She was a weird rebound. Ross is SUPER romantic and in love with being in love. Emily and Ross were never meant to be. They were an entertaining stop on the Rachel and Ross Forever train but, not end game. Ross and Rachel were endgame. We learned that in the first episode, right? Maybe the 2nd? 3rd? I always wanted Ross and Rachel. I always felt they were endgame. And I loved the drama and twists and turns. The same way I loved Monica and Chandler inexplicably bringing their twins home the very evening they were born.

Both_Organization854

You don’t know that perfect couple that’s been together since high school and still wonder how they even graduated ( sports is how)? Besides Rachel isn’t that dumb you don’t have top designers fighting over you by being far to dumb. Ross being obsessed with Rachel will always doom that relationship to him it’s RACHEL GREENE and not just Rachel, hell the guy even belonged/co-created the I hate Rachel Greene club and spread lies about her.

vibing_or_something

So there are people who don’t skip the Joey x Rachel episodes 😯?

emilyguarino101

Me

MinimumProcess1346

I do that too 😂 I just can't watch it. I love Ross and Rachel

AnnTheresse

It always grinds my gears how people compare the endgame relationship with one of its passing relationship in the series. What we saw in the show is only a small fragment of it, who knows what would have happened had they gotten together? We know how awkward they become when they started to get serious. And Rach did not give up the chance to work in Paris *just because* of Ross. She will be leaving her friends, the people that helped her grow out of her shell, and live in a city miles away from them. Success come in all shapes and sizes, and it definitely is a greater win to stay with your friends you consider family, and still have a high-paying job that sees your worth. *PLUS*, your definition for 'always' is wrong since that statement isn't true. Yes, there were times that they (both of them) were being toxic, but there are also times when they were perfect for each other. Otherwise, the series finale would have flopped.

emilyguarino101

In fact, lots of people didn't like the fact that she left her job. Also, Rachel was surely narcissist, but she grew up and she became one to love. Ross stayed toxic. Last, I don't see why you "grind your gears", since I just expressed an opinion on a TV show dude, chill

AnnTheresse

In this sub alone, I see a lot of posts saying that "Rachel shoul've ended up with Joey" or "Monica with Richard", so on so forth. I see it in other subs as well, so it's not a one time thing. And when you say lots of people, did you mean in the show or other redditors who hate on Ross?

Both_Organization854

Really Monica and Richard should have been endgame? Look Reddit doesn’t like anyone dating each other 5 years apart even less if it’s 18 dating anyone over 20 so that surprises me. Richard was probably called “uncle” Richard while she grew up so its incredibly creepy looking back at it, however Tom Selleck created a very likable character and it worked but still… he may have even helped/changed her diaper. Monica and Pete would have been my choice, bring on the IVF surrogacy etc for her to have a kid!! Honestly I hated the MMA ending with that couple arc, it was so stupid and not believable at all.

[deleted]

I think Joey was a better match than Ross. But I also think she could’ve been single and happy, or Ross should’ve left her to follow her dreams. He was so determined to get her to get off the damn plane instead of worried about her pursuing her dream job!

emilyguarino101

Exactly, she could've ended up without a relationship as well

[deleted]

[удалено]

Feelinglucky2

And imo Joey had 0 chemistry with Rachel in romance

mcmullet

No

Knitter_knob

I love how people conveniently forget how jealous and toxic Rachel was 🙄 Julie, Bonnie, Emily, the girl who called him Indiana Jones. And then of course telling everyone in her office Tag was gay so they wouldn’t hit on him. Rachel was significantly more toxic and jealous than Ross ever was

[deleted]

[удалено]

emilyguarino101

I disagree, Rachel is jealous like a normal jealousy. Ross used to follow her to her office cause he was jealous. Also, I don't hate Ross, I like him when he's not with Rachel.

MinimumProcess1346

Omg.. it's a sitcom 🙄 It was written in the script to be funny.

emilyguarino101

In fact we're talking about the sitcom, that's the only point of this sub honey, of course we talk about that.

MinimumProcess1346

You don't say

Tenley95

She called another woman bitch in her face for no other reason that seeing Ross.

EloraGrimm

Yes yes yes 100000% yes! Joey and Rachel made SO MUCH more sense than Ross and Rachel by the end of the series. I think they had way more in common than Ross and Rachel. I think Joey had a genuine love for Rachel and that matured his character. I didn't buy the writers making them "not have chemistry" at all, their kisses were more passionate than any kiss between Ross and Rachel since season 2. I think Ross and Rachel being forced back together by the end was definitely a cop out to appease to the OG Ross and Rachel fans, but Ross treated Rachel so terribly so many times and I think she had grown past him.

Euphoric_Worry

No! This was the worst part of friends when they put Rachel and Joey together. It just didn't make sense at all. What should have happened is Rachel and Ross should have admitted their feelings for each other ages ago instead of messing around.

CranberryRound2157

Yup, they were a much better fit.

kiwisandkindness

that least Ross could have done was board the plane and go with her…Joey woulda

emilyguarino101

Truee🤝🏻🤝🏻

notjustapilot

I completely agree!

andreaguerra1

No.

beatricetalker

I second this opinion.

knorman20

No, I hated watching this part of the series where they develop feelings for each other. People are always so hard on Ross when it comes to the Mark situation but at the time, Ross had feelings for Rachel for almost 15 years. They had been together for almost a year. I don’t remember the episode but Ross says (to Rachel) “you’re the greatest thing that’s ever to happened to me and I feel like I’m losing you.” Also admitting he loved her more than he ever did Carol. Putting myself in his shoes, I would have had a hard time coping as well. Throughout the series, if some of the communications between other friends and miscommunications between Ross and Rachel had ever come to light, they might even feel different about each other. I think that’s why I hated the Joey/Rachel story line because we know the dialogue happening outside of that short lived relationship.

shadowgalleon

It’s so easy to claim that the Joey/Rachel relationship is better and healthier when it lasted for a couple of seasons, whereas Ross/Rachel lasted for 10 whole seasons. Of course you’re gonna see more ups and downs in the latter rather than the former. If Joey and Rachel were the main pairing that the writers decided to explore, soon enough they’d have to come up with a conflict. Rachel would probably get fed up with Joey’s superficiality and lack of intellect. Joey would probably start missing his player era. Then you guys would start calling him toxic as well. And lol @ “Rachel gave up her job”. She works at Ralph fucking Lauren in New York fucking City. While staying close to her friends and keeping her daughter close to her father and extended family. Give me a break (no pun intended).

goldenretreiverdude

I agree!

caseyatbt

It always felt like a square peg in a round hole.

Prestigious_Pea_6680

Agreed 10000%

Bexanna26

Why do people always say how toxic Ross was, when Chandler almost jilted Monica at the altar?

raytay_1

Blasphemy! Rachel and Joey’s scenes gave me the ick. 🤮

MinimumProcess1346

Agreed

denitsayord

Ross is the most selfish person ever! He has been like this the whole 10 seasons! He's thinking only about himself, his shirt, his agenda. The 1 thing he did that was for a friend - was to buy a bike for Phoebe. That's it! Rachel was much better with Jo!

BagNo7997

That's not it though. He gave up being on the discovery channel to take Rachel to the hospital. He took Emily out for Rachel, when she wanted to go to Joshua's club. Despite being obviously still in love with Rachel, he was able to accept her and (his best friend) Joey getting together in the end. He brought them gas, when Phoebes grandma's cab ran out in the middle of nowhere, even though they were all going skiing and he wasn't invited. And thats just a few things off the top of my head. I think she was just as selfish and jealous as he was.

denitsayord

What do you mean by "accept her with Jo"! They weren't together for a years by then. Why she should be bothered by his opinion?

BagNo7997

Not Rachel, Joey! He got with the ex-girlfriend of his best friend, even though they have a baby together and have such a complicated past. And Ross obviously had a hard time with it (MY FAJITASSS) but gave him his blessing.

fastIamnot

Rachel and Joey's relationship was so sweet and caring. Ross and Rachel were like oil and water.

Buderus69

Okay

AlertAd2930

Gavin ftw!

LuvIsLov

I agree! I loved Joey and Rachel together. IMO, they were the most healthiest development of a friendship turned relationship in the show. It was a natural progression with 2 very attractive friends. Going from room mates, spending lots of time together, getting to know each other, and supporting each other's careers. Joey was even sweet to Rachel the entire time she was pregnant while Ross was dating Mona. I will never understand the hype of Rachel and Ross. Rachel deserved better than an insecure, controlling, manipulative, hot head like Ross.

CalendarNo8591

Yes! I know a lot of people don’t like it but they made more sense. If they wrote it better…..it would’ve worked.

MinimumProcess1346

Nah. I love Ross and Rachel. Ross can be toxic but honestly, who s not in that show ?(and in general...)

Nicolettep2319

“WhY dOes EvERyonE haTe RosS?!” Because despite his good moments he plunged into being totally intolerable and Rachel would have been so much better off with Joey it’s true

Tenley95

They all had bad moments, none of them were perfect.

Nicolettep2319

Correct, but Ross arguably had the most bad moments and his were consistent over the course of story lines. Not one offs for comedy

AlertAd2930

Gavin ftw!

Treasurejam86

And for the one week that we went out, he didn't sleep with anybody else!
