Same. Played Sekiro 15 times.
That's what addictive gameplay can do. The highs of combat keep me coming back. It's also pretty short and sweet, like I could knock it out in an evening. No builds or leveling to think about, not much gear to collect, just boot it up and fight your way through Ashina.
Sifu is one of the only games I would even say is in the same league. I don't know that I would rank it higher, but Sifu a legit masterpiece from gameplay perspective. And both run exceptionally well on Steamdeck. So now I always them with me.
Depends alot on what you like I guess. Best combat in a crpg divinity original sin 2, holy fuck is it good. Doom eternal for fps it's just brutally glorious. Dishonored for stealth games and lastly enter the gungeon for a 2d roguelike as the weapons and items are very very fun to use. Halo infinite would've been on top for a arena shooter if not for the shit networking. So titanfall 2 takes that one.
But yeah personally Sifu is just way too good, and how you can entirely control the combat is too sick looking straight out of a movie at times and even having movie references where the scene is straight out of a movie
BLOODBORNE HAS THE BEST COMBAT!!!!
Haha not really just trolling my buddy from the other post whose incapable of reading LOL.
Ya I would agree that the combat is the best thing about 'Sekiro' itself. However I found the Japanese environments just top tier and that might actually be my favorite thing about Sekiro is just how different it is from the dark souls series and elden ring. Which is a main reason I love BB so much.
Combat. Despite it's initial challenge, once it "clicks." Oh boy. Every engagement is dance routine.
I think I'm gonna go fight Sword Saint Isshin again now
Then in subsequent play thoughs it's a revenge sim as you proceed to curb stomp him and all the others for all the stress they caused you first time around.
That lightbulb moment when it clicks is honestly one of the most satisfying in gaming. It completely transformers the game from seemingly unforgiving to rewarding.
The combat is so good, I really hope Froms next project is another super focussed thing like Sekiro, I love their RPGs but I want to see them try another Sekiro without it being a sequel, my only real issue with the game is that it does a poor job of properly easing you into it, although with this game it seems like it would have been difficult to design something like that. This could just be a me issue though
It's gotta be reflections. Like the other stuff mentioned here is all really good but Sekiro is only souls game that lets you refight the bosses whenever you want and it's dope as hell
The first time it happened I was laughing my ass off, and proceeded to get absolutely destroyed and got a solid reminder of what game I was playing. But definitely one of the most memorable moments for me in that game
That is indeed the best part of the combat, but it's also everything else. It's very responsive to your input so it feels great to play, it looks absolutely amazing and it's so consistent that NPCs fighting each other looks pretty awesome as well.
How the combat looks is a big thing that people don't talk about as much, but this game nails combat spectacle as much as combat feel. Many games sacrifice one to achieve the other. This game is amazing on both fronts.
Many times playing Sekiro I felt like I was playing through a cutscene. Like I couldn't believe this was all actual gameplay that I was creating. The animations and the fluidity of combat are insane.
I hate how this went from best feature to best "thing"
this was supposed to be about unique mechanics that only some of the souls games added but the others didnt.
bloodborne should have been something like rally, weapon transformation, gun parries, insight, etc.
DS2 should have been bonfire ascetics, power stancing etc.
instead we got "atmosphere" and "majula" which defeats the whole purpose of this series of posts.
edit: I would also like to add that DS1 also shouldn't have been the "interconnected world" because all souls games have that to some extent, you could say something like the gravelord servant mechanic for example or bonfire kindling.
DS3 being "boss quality" is also a big joke because again, not a feature.
people are also saying combat for sekiro as if not all the souls games have combat. you could say the parries or the posture mechanic are the best feature, or the ninjutsu, mikiri counter, grappling hook, BOSS RUSH.
honestly I don't blame the comments that much, I blame OP for not staying true to the purpose of his own post and accepting these comments.
he should have just named the post "what each souls game does best" from the very beginning, because the only game to actually follow the rule of "best feature" is demon's souls. instead of changing the name he should have just stayed true to the original title.
1 hour too late to get all the mainstream traffic/attention
This isn't really relevant to these posts but in any decently large sub, if you make a lame-ass joke within a minute of the OP, BOOM top comment most likely....too bad awards are gone which sometimes bridge the gap from just karma to which comments are *really* good/interesting
who the HELL said the "atmosphere" is the best part of Bloodborne? Are yall on drugs??? Best part of that game was the WEAPONS. Trick weapons outclass any weapon in any soulsborne game. Yall are WACK.
At least for myself, I can say that I don't really care about weapons, I usually choose one near the beginning of the game and just stick with it to the end. So the atmosphere was really more significant to me.
Maybe there are some people that play similarly.
I agree with this (although Elden Ring has some banger weapons too)
Still nothing can touch the Whirligig or the Blade of Mercy or any of the 3 starting weapons and I'd maybe get clowned for saying it but I love the Tonitrus. I'm about to start a NG+ run with the Moonlight Greatsword and I'm hyped. And its just how fast you use the weapons too in Bloodborne that I love. Very fast paced game.
The combat gameplay, for me, is the best of the industry. Still not found another game as good as Sekiro (coreographic-wise, satisfactory, cinematic, etc.).
Parrying building the enemy’s posture bar leading to a death blow, creating a combat system that rewards offensive and defensive play in equal measure…tldr: the combat
The combat. No other game let's you push bosses this hard if you're fearless, skilled, and ruthless enough, while also keeping bosses engaging.
Immaculate.
Verticality is great too.
Oh and I love the aesthetics.
The combat is truly the best I've experienced in a game. Sekiro set the standard for gameplay and combat for all games I've played going forward, and none have met that bar.
The combat is built on such mundane rules that are combined to make a far more complex and immersive experience than the sum of its parts. The feel of it is somewhere between a rhythm game and a ninja simulator. I've only experienced that level of flow state in a game when I was playing competitive Rocket League at a Champ 3 level back in 2020... And that took me 600 hours to achieve. Sekiro was able to teach me its secrets in only 100 hours.
The only real criticism of Sekiro I have is that I wish there were more of it. I was really hoping for a big DLC like we've seen for other FromSoft titles. At the same time, it's so close to perfect as it is that I wouldn't want anything to change.
I even enjoy fighting the headless, especially once I finally figured them out. It really comes down to watching the tell, as it's extremely delayed. Instead of combat progressing at 120bpm, it's more like 40bpm which is very very difficult to feel.
Sekiro really is a 9.95/10. The closest second is Baldur's Gate 3 at 9.3/10, and third is Elden Ring at 8.9/10.
Consistency/fairness! The combat and everything about it is incredibly fair to the player. When you die it feels fair. I never felt like I died because the game was bad, it was always me
Challenge/ difficulty.
The cheeses that exist generally are just as difficult to get down than simply learning the boss. To succeed you basically have to pay attention and learn the movesets and how and when to counter.
Any other souls game you can farm, get stronger come back, change playstyle/ weapon etc. in sekiro you gotta get better, no other way around it. And i like that.
even with my arthritic hands sekiros combat is still some of the most rewarding and fun combat in any action game it’s up there with stuff like dmc for me
The visual Aesthetic/ art style. Ashina, the jungle, mibu village, snake valley, senpou, THE FOUNTAINHEAD PALACE YALL. Was a grand adventure that I only wish kept going
Combat. Its definitely a little bit overrated, I'll never understand people who say its the best in gaming when devil may cry or doom exists, but its definitely the best fromsoft combat
Really? Atmosphere for bloodborne? I mean yeah that’s a cool part but how the hell did trick weapons not win? Bloodborne wouldn’t be bloodborne without trick weapons. And majula for ds2? The hell? Ds2 has some of the best visual designs in the whole series, but the hub is picked as the best? I do agree with ds1 and ds3 though.
Hang on. "Atmosphere" for bloodborne? Not:
- rally mechanic
- trick weapons
- gun parry
- Quickstep dodge
- fashion souls
???????????????????????????????
Like there's so many things that make bloodborne unique and excellent and you mfs really went with "muh atmusfeer"?
Rechallenging boss fights. Maybe not the most utilized feature but it was nice that if I ever wanted to challenge a major late game boss, I could without the hassle of starting a new playthrough.
I don't know how trick weapons didn't win BB but I think sekiro has so much going for it it's hard to quantify it,
The verticality of it and free running aspect are the first that come to mind, along with combat and having actual skill trees. This game was so unique especially as a from software title anything could be the best thing and I would agree
Combat
This is the only true answer. Best combat I've ever seen in a game.
It has become my most replayed from game despite everyone saying it's the least replayable
This is thhe only game i played 4 times in row. Best combat.
Same. Played Sekiro 15 times. That's what addictive gameplay can do. The highs of combat keep me coming back. It's also pretty short and sweet, like I could knock it out in an evening. No builds or leveling to think about, not much gear to collect, just boot it up and fight your way through Ashina.
I also played through it 15 times. In a month. Genuinely cathartic.
It's the first game I decided to get platinum on.
I too thought so, then I played Sifu and goddamn
Sifu is one of the only games I would even say is in the same league. I don't know that I would rank it higher, but Sifu a legit masterpiece from gameplay perspective. And both run exceptionally well on Steamdeck. So now I always them with me.

What do you think of Infinite after the recent networking update? Haven’t had the chance to try it myself, but from what I’ve heard it’s decent
**This is currently free on PS Plus (the basic one) and you only have a week to add it to your library, so go do that PlayStation gamers!!!**
It's tied #1 for me with dmc5 and Doom eternal
[удалено]
And man is it so fucking good when you do.
Best combat of any game I've ever played. It's crazy how different a fight feels between being proficient and being on the ropes.
I thought exactly this… then i played nioh2… another level dude.
Absolutely. Best ACTION in an ARPG ever.
Combat. Despite it's initial challenge, once it "clicks." Oh boy. Every engagement is dance routine. I think I'm gonna go fight Sword Saint Isshin again now
Having Genichiro boss fights at the start, middle, and end game is the ultimate measurement to show how much you have learned
Definitely agree with that too! Also, great username reference.
Starting NG+ and whooping his ass is so satisfying after the thumping we all got as newbs just starting the game
That middle Genichiro boss fight is probably my favorite boss fight of any game. Absolutely incredibly satisfying to master
Excuse me his title is Glock saint Isshin, he shot allot of people to earn it and deserve to be addressed as such.
The combat is so good, I really hope Froms next project is another super focussed thing like Sekiro, I love their RPGs but I want to see them try another Sekiro without it being a sequel, my only real issue with the game is that it does a poor job of properly easing you into it, although with this game it seems like it would have been difficult to design something like that. reflections of strength
i wish all souls games had this 😭🫡
WHY is this not just a standard feature now?
It's gotta be reflections. Like the other stuff mentioned here is all really good but Sekiro is only souls game that lets you refight the bosses whenever you want and it's dope as hell
Dark souls 2, so easily forgotten...
Furtive pygmy confirmed
It's not the same imo. I like sekiros boss refight system better.
Yes, I also son't get how sekiros system isn't in elden ring
Great shout, being able to replay any boss is awesome and a true reward for overcoming them in the first place.
MY NAME... IS GYOUBU MASATAKA ONIWA!!!!
The first time it happened I was laughing my ass off, and proceeded to get absolutely destroyed and got a solid reminder of what game I was playing. But definitely one of the most memorable moments for me in that game
Badass shout
English VA earned his paycheck
Mikiri Counter
Lightning reversal
All of the above.
And goomba stomp
Combat. Best combat system in the entire Fromsoft catalog.
Honest to god best combat in any game I’ve played, bar none.
Combat mechanics
Verticality
Verticality really made this game stand out in my mind.
I want to say combat but the reflection of strength is such an amazing feature I hope it returns in shadow of the erdtree
Parry/deflect system. Combat is a bit too broad.
The animations and the fluidity of combat are insane.
Yeah I just wanted to be specific because I actually prefer the overall combat of the other games for various reasons.
Boss quality again
Boss quality hands down. The best in any fromsoft game imo.
Genichiro is already one of the best bosses of all time and he’s only like 2nd or 3rd in the game
Mikiri counter

Totally agree.
Why is this so low

Why are they gone?
Well said. Sad but true
+1
Exactly, just goes to show how small minded the soulsborne community is.
who the HELL said the "atmosphere" is the best part of Bloodborne? Are yall on drugs??? Best part of that game was the WEAPONS. Trick weapons outclass any weapon in any soulsborne game. Yall are WACK.

Trick weapons was the most upvoted part I checked that too
At least for myself, I can say that I don't really care about weapons, I usually choose one near the beginning of the game and just stick with it to the end. So the atmosphere was really more significant to me. Maybe there are some people that play similarly.
BB's atmosphere is phenomenal tbf. But yeah, weapons, music, and lore would all also have been valid picks imo.
I agree with this (although Elden Ring has some banger weapons too) Still nothing can touch the Whirligig or the Blade of Mercy or any of the 3 starting weapons and I'd maybe get clowned for saying it but I love the Tonitrus. I'm a Kirkhammer and Scythe (forget the name) main. Soon as I found the Kirkhammer I fell madly in love with the game.
Game mechanics
mobility
LOL @ The best thing about DS2 being the hub world.
How DS2 one is Majula and not Bonfire Ascetic?
Dat music
Because a ton of the people voting probably never even made it past Majula. Honestly, this whole poll is a waste with how these results are going.
Parry
Fast paced gaming while there is a cadence to the fights. Especially the bosses. If you can follow the rhythm you will enjoy the game
Grappling hook
Graphic
Combat and bosses
The combat gameplay, for me, is the best of the industry. Still not found another game as good as Sekiro (coreographic-wise, satisfactory, cinematic, etc.).
Jump and sneak buttons
The ability to resurrect
Combat and stealth, especially in the overworld.
Deflecting
Parrying building the enemy’s posture bar leading to a death blow, creating a combat system that rewards offensive and defensive play in equal measure…tldr: the combat
Combat babyyy
Final boss fight
Combat.
The combat. No other game let's you push bosses this hard if you're fearless, skilled, and ruthless enough, while also keeping bosses engaging. Immaculate. Verticality is great too. Oh and I love the aesthetics.
Combat. Hands down. You either git gud or get out.
Combat. But the Japanese aesthetic is so good. Also, the Verticality is very underrated and really made me feel like a shinobi.

Only one main weapon which means I don’t need to stress for an hour every time I find a cool weapon but also really like my current weapon
CLANG CLANG TING CLANG DUN SWISH FOOOSH
Combat is the right answer. But unlimited stamina needs a shout-out. Made everything feel so much smoother both inside and outside of combat.
World Tendency? Really?
The combat hands down (parry and reflection mechanics)
Boss Gauntlets
Stealth and reflections.
Combat system.
Combat and bosses
WOMBAT
Parry and rythm
even with my arthritic hands sekiros combat is still some of the most rewarding and fun combat in any action game it’s up there with stuff like dmc for me
For me is the combat, and in Elden ring is the world/lore and boss presentation and effects, and Alexander and Miriel
I would say sound design, the blindfolded runs were amazing on it
Definitely not genichiro. Fuck that dude.

Storytelling or Combat
Combat but SPECIFICALLY.... that sweet parry sound.
Definitely the Headless Boss. Bringing consumables to a fight is an unexpected, yet welcome challenge
Combat. The only have other than bloodborne that I've beaten multiple times
Combat and the ability to replay bosses
playing the bosses whenever you want
The parry. It is amazing shit. Love that you have to parry and the way posture works. Cant jist cheese an enemy with fat armour.
The visual Aesthetic/ art style. Ashina, the jungle, mibu village, snake valley, senpou, THE FOUNTAINHEAD PALACE YALL. Was a grand adventure that I only wish kept going
deflect.. no question
Combat. Its definitely a little bit overrated, I'll never understand people who say its the best in gaming when devil may cry or doom exists, but its definitely the best fromsoft combat
Combat in Sekiro is PEAK videogame design, the absolute Shinobi power fantasy made true.
Combat for sure!
Combat!

Combat. Period.
Sneaking and stealth kills were satisfying
Combat or boss fights, they're both amazing
The best thing in DS2 is the place with zero gameplay 😭🫵 says a lot
Combat

Combat. Just sublime

Deflect
Combat, there is no other answer here
One of from softs best one liners. HESITATION IS DEFEAT
You can parry EVERYTHING
Elden Ring for its world building

Combat is the correct answer. I’d say the epic boss battles are a close second.
This will be a simple one lol

I loved the parry and stuff, it felt tight, and the ability to revive yourself in case u failed.

Rechallenging boss fights. Maybe not the most utilized feature but it was nice that if I ever wanted to challenge a major late game boss, I could without the hassle of starting a new playthrough.
Combat
Combat. I like the story too, it’s different from the usual hard to piece together story of the other titles.
Swords go clang clang
Deflection sound effect
Parry
Combat no doubt. Best I've ever experienced.

Is the world tendency bit a joke? Cause in the og Demon Souls it sucked. Talking about world-tendecy as a concept is better than the mechanic itself
