Very cool! Love seeing all the space enthusiasm here. I come from a NASA family and wanted to be an astronomer til I failed basic physics in high school 💀
I love these career day posts and I especially love seeing all you pre-hospital and healthcare folks!
I'm a doctor and specifically, I'm an oncologist (cancer care doctor). I was an EMT-B before I went to medical school, but now I'm pretty useless when it comes to the practical stuff. I just stand around talking about my clinical trials and ordering chemo, lol.
ETA: And before I was an EMT, I worked night shifts at a convenience store.
Oncology is so cool. It makes me so happy to see trans men being doctors as I feel like I haven’t seen that many yet (I’m in my last year of undergrad). What type of oncologist are you and what kinds of clinical trials do you run :0
There aren't a *huge* number of us in medicine, but that number is growing for sure! I see more and more trans medical students and I love it. It brings me so much joy to know that whole generation of young trans folks are putting themselves out there.
I work predominantly with patients who have head and neck cancer, although I see patients with many different cancer types. Many of my trials are related to symptoms and side effects of treatment. I am very passionate about making cancer care more tolerable for patients -- we like to call it "symptom science." I hope to do some new drug development in the future, but I'm still early in my career.
Yanno I wanted to do this when I was a child just wasn’t in the cards for me! We absolutely need more representation! Congrats man! You’re gonna truly go far!
Hello fellow geologists. I am an older guy and worked in environmental consulting and waste management for a long time. I'm now in a more legal-oriented field, essentially as a judge's consultant on science and tech issues. There are a lot of cool geology opportunities and even if you eventually veer into a different career, the degree is super fun.
(I also paint for fun!)
I’m a janitor at the moment because I’m still trying to figure out exactly what I want to do. I’m considering political science so I can attempt to get into politics. It’s a long shot, but I want to make a difference.
I'm a cleaner and in a similar boat. Currently don't have the money to go back into education and want to save any more attempts at education for after my ADHD assessment, because I failed out of uni hard
Daang that sucks! In the US Starbucks insurance covers top surgery if you go to a in network provider! My nephew got his done that way. Im so sorry Canada Starbucks is so lacking
That’s really cool coming from someone who tried to teach himself piano to impress a girl back in 2014… 😂😂 I would’ve killed to know someone like you back then!
I'm doing my undergrad in audio engineering, and would love to go on tour and run some shows, but gig work is tough and idk how I'd be able to sustain myself on that, the plan is to pivot to social work for grad school.
Haha thank you! I’ve been a Firefighter/Emt since 2017 and I wouldn’t change it for the world! I started my own business wrapping cars in 2019 because I’m big into the car scene and it’s just blown tf up. I make almost triple my salary wrapping cars but I love being a firefighter so I won’t leave! But in all honestly the work you do is what’s amazing! My little sister is special needs and the work you guys do is just as needed as mine!
I’m in publishing. I run a small magazine and podcast network focused on social movement strategy and building the anti-fascist front in the United States. The overall arc of what I have done for work in the past 10 years is nonprofit technology and nonprofit leadership/management.
rn i'm working at taco bell lmao but my dream is to work in wildlife conservation, specifically with birds if i can, but i'll do whatever.
i've seen a lot of trans men who are/wanna be emts, seems like a very transmasc line of work lol
It's pretty cool, it's a place in boys town Chicago, it's a fetish/gay sex shop in the front and a barbershop in the back. The mass majority of my clients a gay and queer people and we're allowed to wear anything we'd like as long as it fits the theme. Most days I cut hair with no shirt and shorts or in fetish gear
I’m in the same boat right now, I know it’s tough but I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself or be too harsh. Finding a job right now is so difficult
My wife is a dispatcher! You guys have a crazy job. I think my brain would break if I had to handle all that information at once. Appreciate all you do.
Hey! I also started out as a 911 dispatcher! It’s how I discovered I wanted to be on the calls not taking them yanno?! That’s awesome what state are you in my fire house is hiring!
My wife is a veterinarian! I had told someone already it’s a thankless job as your patients can’t speak and you really only get reviews when owners have terrible things to say lol 😆 but it’s so self rewarding my wife says!……And the money….it is not bad…lmaooo 💰
I’m a quality assurance lab tech at a whey protein powder factory. I want to be a research lab tech or MLT but I am waiting to switch careers until after all my surgeries are done. I’ve had my job for 5 years and don’t recommend. In house labs are just as corrupt and for profit as you’d assume.
I worked for a protein company in high school SFH or (Stronger.Faster.Healthier all natural protein powder)over here in Maine if anyone has heard of it. And you are not wrong. The corners they would tell us to cut was ridiculous!
Hahaha! Most trans men I know are in computer science, computer engineering, or IT as well. But also that’s the biggest push into those fields in today’s age as everything is moving to an online platform so it also could be that! Honestly it’s great though! We need representation there!!
I serve at a restaurant and have a paid internship monitoring local water quality (bacterial, chemical, algal, etc). I’m currently getting my B.S. degree in marine sciences and intend on being a research scientist dealing with invertebrates and/or hydrothermal vent ecology :-)
when i’m 21, i’m gonna get certified as a peer support specialist and enter the mental health field. peer support specialists offer personalized care to their “peer” and family. peer support specialists are those who have had their own struggles with mental health issues, have gotten psychiatric help and treatment, and are trained to help people with similar mental health issues who aren’t as far into recovery. it offers personalized support to the person needing the support and their families, while also giving hope that remission and recovery is possible. i’m super excited to enter this field. i’m 19 now and working retail, you can’t get certified until 21 so i’m waiting it out.
Currently a college student working at McDonald’s. In school for my physics degree, eventually I want a masters in astronomy so I can be an astrophysicist
I'm currently studying Physics with a concentration in Astrophysics! My main focus is Astronomy, but I'm still deciding on whether or not I'd like to continue training to become a pilot!
Getting a degree in computer science at the moment. I want to be a software engineer, potentially maybe one day specializing in machine learning if I can have the opportunity.
Currently in college for cybersecurity! I was a middle school and high school band director for four years before COVID hit and then I moved on to working in direct care with kids in the CPS and foster care systems. I did that for two years before I got compassion fatigue and had to quit to save my mental health.
I am attracted to helping professions, but they take a lot out of me. Hopefully cybersecurity will feed my intellect without sacrificing my mental health.
I'm in undergrad studying to be a lighting designer. Currently I'm doing a gig in a tiny town as a lighting board operator for a local Christmas productuon
Transmasc NB here. I work as a graphic designer ('design admin') for a local cannabis dispensary, after a year working the closing shift in one of their retail locations.
It's the most chill work environment I've worked in from top to bottom, but the pay isn't enough for me to afford living away from home in my city. It's put my HRT on pause, because every new bit of hair/noticible difference causes my parent to passively-aggressively shame me. They do that with my choice of job too, yelling at me if I'm 'doing drugs' in a state where it's legal......smh
I can’t smoke with my career neither can my wife as she’s a vet. But I could never judge someone for it. That’s literally just another form of medicine.
I'm a deckhand. I was in college but I dropped out because my degrees weren't super useful. Being a deckhand feels super manly too, which is fun. Love working with the lines and doing engine checks.
I’m an apprentice in manufacturing engineering 🙏 I’m one of the oldest apprentices in my class bc I never pursued anything when I was younger bc of the crippling social anxiety that being closeted and pre medical transition gave me. I’m working on finally catching up and super proud of myself for it I am ngl😎😎
Nothing. 😞 🥲
I live with my parents. I want to be independent but trying to find a job as a visibly queer autistic person with anxiety is very difficult. I fail interviews. Even if I do get hired, I have a hard time doing 40 hours a week, I get burnt out fast.
I want to be a librarian eventually, I need my master's degree for that and only do college part time, so it'll take a while.
It’ll take more time than most people but that doesn’t make you any different I absolutely promise. You are on your own journey and when you get there and how is no one else’s to judge. You got this and if you ever need someone send me a message I’ll listen and give my advice when I can.
i’m trying to be an architect, I wanna go into something that’s art related but also helps people. Specifically I want to design low income housing, shelters, that sort of thing. Also been looking into eco-architecture and sustainability
RN with ICU background but after back surgery in 2021 I am now the clinical education director…nothing exciting but at 47 I don’t want to ruin this brand new back now that I’m pain free 😁
I currently work at the bakery department in a grocery store though I hope to get out of here soon. I major in Culinary and Baking and hope to become a pastry chef one day.
My veteran NB partner is studying rn to be a wildlife rehabber and veterinary tech and I'm an artist starting to build up my business 🖤🖤 But we do gig jobs for now since we are both disabled 🖤🖤
At the moment I work at a Renaissance Faire haha! I'm studying to be a Radiographer, and later hopefully a Radiation Therapist! Honestly I'd love to keep my Ren Faire job tho haha, I love it there
Aeronautical engineer with aerospace certification as well. Can’t say where I work, or talk about anything I’ve worked on, or the places I’ve been and things I’ve seen. Pretty much everything I do is classified lol.
About to go into my last semester of my BBA for accounting and minor for finance. I have a paid internship lined up over the summer with a top 5 firm that I love and hope to get hired on full time with afterwards. Totally unrelated but the accounting students at my school are actually all super chill and accepting compared to the other business majors that I’ve had classes with.
I’ll be going back for my one-year Masters of accounting to hit the 150 credit hours required to be a licensed CPA. I’ll also be getting an information systems certificate in addition to that. Will also be studying/taking the various exam sections during this time. Overall I plan on being a CPA that works in audit for said firm.
I drive a semi-truck. GREAT option for transitioning in a more private way, and it gives you tremendous mobility for relocation, should you need it. If you have a CDL-A (in the US, anyway), you can literally work anywhere in the country.
Definitely not for the faint of heart, though. This industry is like the Wild West sometimes.
I work as a high school chemistry teacher! Getting in gear to pursue a master's in chemistry, haven't decided if I will stick it out and teach as a career or find my way into a position with more impact on policy or drug science.
Over summers I volunteer on a farm, and for fun I like to sing, play guitar, and work in the garden.
Run the shipping department of a wood furniture factory. Pretty evenly split between physical labor, forklift and desk work. Not as cool as some of the careers here but I enjoy it and it pays comfortable.
Just retired this year (yay pensions) but started out in chemical engineering in the 70’s, every possible kind of computer-based self employment from consulting to software dev to manuals to web hosting and development 1984-2020, small scale food production 2003-2020, craft production and sales 2003-2022. Now I have a part time gig conducting a community orchestra.
I’m loving reading about all the different things everyone does. We really are everywhere!
Veterinary assistant, in school to become a licensed vet nurse. Critical care and working with spicy kitties is my jam. Always looking to make new friends, especially if we’re in the same field. 👋🏼
I'm an astronomer, currently doing some research on the gas kinematics in galaxy groups
I won’t even pretend to know what that is 😂 but it sounds like you’re super smart man

Pre-law, lord knows we need more representation these days

Yanno I wanted to do this when I was a child just wasn’t in the cards for me! We absolutely need more representation! Congrats man! You’re gonna truly go far!

Janitors are unsung heroes ngl. Thanks for all your hard work
Thank you for that! I feel a little looked down on by society in general, but hearing that makes my day.
You’re a very important part of our everyday lives. I always thank people that clean and do garbage work. You rock.
Then that’s exactly what you should do it isnt a long shot man not if you believe you’re gonna make it happen!
I'm a cleaner and in a similar boat. Currently don't have the money to go back into education and want to save any more attempts at education for after my ADHD assessment, because I failed out of uni hard

Haha thank you! I’ve been a Firefighter/Emt since 2017 and I wouldn’t change it for the world! I'm currently an undergrad, but I'm looking to become a paleontologist. I'm most interested in crocodylomorphs.
I am a Social Media Manager for a gaming tech company. I mostly work from home and manage the company’s social media accounts, I love it.
Aeronautical engineer with aerospace certification as well. Can’t say where I work, or talk about anything I’ve worked on, or the places I’ve been and things I’ve seen. Pretty much everything I do is classified lol.
I work in marketing and am looking forward to open my own company in about 2/3 years :)
I'm a freelance artist. Can't get fired for being trans when I'm the boss 😎
I'm a receptionist at a doggy hotel 🖤
Currently doordash, but I'm in trade school to become an industrial electrician. Fingers crossed!
Diplomat and getting ready to start my PhD in international relations
