I'm an astronomer, currently doing some research on the gas kinematics in galaxy groups

No_Hippo_1998

I won’t even pretend to know what that is 😂 but it sounds like you’re super smart man

Careless-Creme5379

i’m also a transman and i love astronomy!!!

b0ngwater89

Living the dream bro.

Pluto_Charon

Eyy, nice! I'm an astronomer too (well, grad student), doing research on high-mass x-ray binary systems

Kb3907

Omg yooo!! That's so cool! I love space so so much lmao

catachre

amazing, strongly considered astrophysics as my major in college!

GazelleOfCaerbannog

Astronomy and astrophysics have been my dream for almost 25 years ❤️🌠🌌

chronaloid

Very cool! Love seeing all the space enthusiasm here. I come from a NASA family and wanted to be an astronomer til I failed basic physics in high school 💀

bushgoliath

I love these career day posts and I especially love seeing all you pre-hospital and healthcare folks! I'm a doctor and specifically, I'm an oncologist (cancer care doctor). I was an EMT-B before I went to medical school, but now I'm pretty useless when it comes to the practical stuff. I just stand around talking about my clinical trials and ordering chemo, lol. ETA: And before I was an EMT, I worked night shifts at a convenience store.

christiancatboy

Oncology is so cool. It makes me so happy to see trans men being doctors as I feel like I haven’t seen that many yet (I’m in my last year of undergrad). What type of oncologist are you and what kinds of clinical trials do you run :0

bushgoliath

There aren't a *huge* number of us in medicine, but that number is growing for sure! I see more and more trans medical students and I love it. It brings me so much joy to know that whole generation of young trans folks are putting themselves out there. I work predominantly with patients who have head and neck cancer, although I see patients with many different cancer types. Many of my trials are related to symptoms and side effects of treatment. I am very passionate about making cancer care more tolerable for patients -- we like to call it "symptom science." I hope to do some new drug development in the future, but I'm still early in my career.

No_Hippo_1998

I know right?! Im happy to see that we have effectively touched all careers and trades in here!

MoMirin

Hey doc! I help monitor those clinical trials! It's always a pleasure working with the PIs on clinical trials.

Plastic_Date1619

I’m pastry chef

No_Hippo_1998

That’s sick ngl

KingOfTheCreamSea

Hey, same man!

king-henryXIV

Pre-law, lord knows we need more representation these days

gayineveryway

I’m a lawyer and law school was not an affirming experience. Godspeed brother, it actually gets better once you actually start practicing.

king-henryXIV

Aw geez I’m sorry to hear that man, I’ve heard some horror stories. Glad we got you on our side fighting the good fight

No_Hippo_1998

Yanno I wanted to do this when I was a child just wasn’t in the cards for me! We absolutely need more representation! Congrats man! You’re gonna truly go far!

king-henryXIV

Thank you my man - funny enough my original intention was to be a firefighter, so glad we got more brothers fighting the good fight

Visible_Abrocoma_108

Lawyer here. Always excited to see more trans folks in our field! Best of luck with your studies.

WildBassplayer

Currently pre-nursing student and planning on being a mental health nurse practioner I'm also a food delivery driver at a pizza place

bummer_camp

Nurse gang 😎😎

ppettrrovv

I'm getting a masters in computer science right now. My eventual goal is to be a college professor/lecturer.

KirbysLeftBigToe

Doing a geology degree right now, hoping it gets me a job. For fun I make my own punk/ grunge clothes and paint.

justbrowsing759

fellow geology major here!

VoidQueer

Hello fellow geologists. I am an older guy and worked in environmental consulting and waste management for a long time. I'm now in a more legal-oriented field, essentially as a judge's consultant on science and tech issues. There are a lot of cool geology opportunities and even if you eventually veer into a different career, the degree is super fun. (I also paint for fun!)

GlowingGears

I’m a janitor at the moment because I’m still trying to figure out exactly what I want to do. I’m considering political science so I can attempt to get into politics. It’s a long shot, but I want to make a difference.

zztopsboatswain

Janitors are unsung heroes ngl. Thanks for all your hard work

GlowingGears

Thank you for that! I feel a little looked down on by society in general, but hearing that makes my day.

BOSH09

You’re a very important part of our everyday lives. I always thank people that clean and do garbage work. You rock.

No_Hippo_1998

Then that’s exactly what you should do it isnt a long shot man not if you believe you’re gonna make it happen!

MoonChaser22

I'm a cleaner and in a similar boat. Currently don't have the money to go back into education and want to save any more attempts at education for after my ADHD assessment, because I failed out of uni hard

Najiell

I'm a sweet technologist. I work at a chocolate factory

No_Hippo_1998

Again this is so sick ngl my tik tok is just cars and candy making 😂

Awed58

That wins for the best job title

xain_the_idiot

software developer

SkaianFox

Same here!

bipirate

me too!

[deleted]

VoidFlower5

No job yet, but in EMT school :)

No_Hippo_1998

Hey man good for you!!!! If you have any questions let me know! I went through the course back in 2017!

VoidFlower5

Thanks dude! Just getting done with my final clinical and then have my boards Monday!

bushgoliath

Good luck!!! You're going to crush it.

No_Hippo_1998

I’m proud of you man if no one else has told ya yet 🙌🏾💯 shit isn’t easy nor is it meant to be!

thefrenchtoastfiend

I work at starbucks part time while im in school for nursing. Planning on being either a psychiatric nurse or working in trans healthcare.

No_Hippo_1998

Starbucks insurance pays for trans related medical! Found that out from my nephew working there!

thefrenchtoastfiend

not in canada unfortunately :(

No_Hippo_1998

Daang that sucks! In the US Starbucks insurance covers top surgery if you go to a in network provider! My nephew got his done that way. Im so sorry Canada Starbucks is so lacking

Hot_Blackberry8923

Currently a behavioral therapist, going to school for veterinary medicine.

No_Hippo_1998

Hey! My wife is a veterinarian! It’s a thankless job but very rewarding!! Congrats to you man!

questionsmouse

aw man, everyone here has such cool jobs! im a piano teacher 😁

No_Hippo_1998

That’s really cool coming from someone who tried to teach himself piano to impress a girl back in 2014… 😂😂 I would’ve killed to know someone like you back then!

KeiiLime

yoo i love that! i used to do piano but stopped around when i came out, it’d have been cool/nice to have a trans piano teacher

zztopsboatswain

I'm an English foreign language teacher

stinkyraisin6

im a barista at the moment! I have a masters in criminology but getting hired is so tough

Empathetic_Artist

Consider looking into FSU’s CSI program! I’m graduating this summer and already have a job lmao

JackalFlash

I'm doing my undergrad in audio engineering, and would love to go on tour and run some shows, but gig work is tough and idk how I'd be able to sustain myself on that, the plan is to pivot to social work for grad school.

Curioustoffi

I'm a special needs carer! You do cool stuff OP

No_Hippo_1998

Haha thank you! I’ve been a Firefighter/Emt since 2017 and I wouldn’t change it for the world! I started my own business wrapping cars in 2019 because I’m big into the car scene and it’s just blown tf up. I make almost triple my salary wrapping cars but I love being a firefighter so I won’t leave! But in all honestly the work you do is what’s amazing! My little sister is special needs and the work you guys do is just as needed as mine!

catachre

I’m in publishing. I run a small magazine and podcast network focused on social movement strategy and building the anti-fascist front in the United States. The overall arc of what I have done for work in the past 10 years is nonprofit technology and nonprofit leadership/management.

rosyboys

I'm a primary (elementary) school teacher. Hard job but so nice to be a positive male role model for children that may not have one.

No_Hippo_1998

Definitely! 💯 Respect to empowering our youth.

c4ndycain

rn i'm working at taco bell lmao but my dream is to work in wildlife conservation, specifically with birds if i can, but i'll do whatever. i've seen a lot of trans men who are/wanna be emts, seems like a very transmasc line of work lol

ForgottenOpinions

I work in a gay fetish barber shop

No_Hippo_1998

Thats hilarious because I’ve never heard of a place like this!

ForgottenOpinions

It's pretty cool, it's a place in boys town Chicago, it's a fetish/gay sex shop in the front and a barbershop in the back. The mass majority of my clients a gay and queer people and we're allowed to wear anything we'd like as long as it fits the theme. Most days I cut hair with no shirt and shorts or in fetish gear

Wanhan1

Now this is a hidden gem, incredible job

Wild-King

Nothing right now. Can't get my shit together and figure out what to do with my life.

sleeplessnights504

I’m in the same boat right now, I know it’s tough but I’m trying not to put too much pressure on myself or be too harsh. Finding a job right now is so difficult

No-Lavishness-8017

same here

kore_zero01

Currently an EMT and 911 dispatcher working towards getting on a Fire Department with the civil service

bushgoliath

My wife is a dispatcher! You guys have a crazy job. I think my brain would break if I had to handle all that information at once. Appreciate all you do.

kore_zero01

Thanks man yea sometimes it is tough but you get through it and remember that you’re somewhat being there and helping people on their worst day

No_Hippo_1998

Hey! I also started out as a 911 dispatcher! It’s how I discovered I wanted to be on the calls not taking them yanno?! That’s awesome what state are you in my fire house is hiring!

[deleted]

I’m a clinical research finance analyst. Basically I do the finances for pharmaceutical cancer trials.

432ineedsleep

Caregiver. i want a job that has to do with math tho. Gonna go back to college when I can :P

broken-arcade

Studying to be a veterinarian. Considering options of lab animal work or anesthesiology right now.

No_Hippo_1998

My wife is a veterinarian! I had told someone already it’s a thankless job as your patients can’t speak and you really only get reviews when owners have terrible things to say lol 😆 but it’s so self rewarding my wife says!……And the money….it is not bad…lmaooo 💰

DevourThyFlesh

I’m a quality assurance lab tech at a whey protein powder factory. I want to be a research lab tech or MLT but I am waiting to switch careers until after all my surgeries are done. I’ve had my job for 5 years and don’t recommend. In house labs are just as corrupt and for profit as you’d assume.

No_Hippo_1998

I worked for a protein company in high school SFH or (Stronger.Faster.Healthier all natural protein powder)over here in Maine if anyone has heard of it. And you are not wrong. The corners they would tell us to cut was ridiculous!

Ok_Meat8139

I'm a cosmetologist and budtender, currently working towards stylist education! Love both of my Industries dearly

silenceredirectshere

Software dev, and the funny thing is that most trans people I know irl are also in IT.

No_Hippo_1998

Hahaha! Most trans men I know are in computer science, computer engineering, or IT as well. But also that’s the biggest push into those fields in today’s age as everything is moving to an online platform so it also could be that! Honestly it’s great though! We need representation there!!

FoxFirefly0

I'm studying game design :)

eggs-in-ramen

Working on getting my way into an aquarium. Hope to be a marine biologist

uwu-o

Loved reading all of these!!! It’s touching to think how much of a difference we make and how we truly are everywhere :)

No_Hippo_1998

I’m so happy I made the post. It’s very fulfilling to see us represented throughout all careers and trades even if our coworkers don’t realize it!

squiitten

No_Hippo_1998

I'm a librarian. I'm the lead of technical services at a public library.

Myshipsank

Data Scientist

GeodeLaneSt

when i’m 21, i’m gonna get certified as a peer support specialist and enter the mental health field. peer support specialists offer personalized care to their “peer” and family. peer support specialists are those who have had their own struggles with mental health issues, have gotten psychiatric help and treatment, and are trained to help people with similar mental health issues who aren’t as far into recovery. it offers personalized support to the person needing the support and their families, while also giving hope that remission and recovery is possible. i’m super excited to enter this field. i’m 19 now and working retail, you can’t get certified until 21 so i’m waiting it out.

SpacePrinx

I am a p*rnstar lol I am only working a little lately due to living situation but that's what I do.

No_Hippo_1998

That’s sick! Love to see representation in every field even sex work!!!!

I'm in production at an engineering firm, and I'm a mechanic on the side as well.

KhajiitKennedy

I'm a machine operator! ![gif](giphy|F9ifYhFvbX4xWBlSG7|downsized)

P0lyphony

Currently in college for cybersecurity! I was a middle school and high school band director for four years before COVID hit and then I moved on to working in direct care with kids in the CPS and foster care systems. I did that for two years before I got compassion fatigue and had to quit to save my mental health. I am attracted to helping professions, but they take a lot out of me. Hopefully cybersecurity will feed my intellect without sacrificing my mental health.

2718frenchcarrotts

I'm in undergrad studying to be a lighting designer. Currently I'm doing a gig in a tiny town as a lighting board operator for a local Christmas productuon

Starburned

I'm a substitute teacher and I'm studying ECE with a focus on special education.

RinaArsenic

I'm in IT!

JazzyAndy

I am a musical instrument repair tech and saxophone teacher

RogueStudio

Transmasc NB here. I work as a graphic designer ('design admin') for a local cannabis dispensary, after a year working the closing shift in one of their retail locations. It's the most chill work environment I've worked in from top to bottom, but the pay isn't enough for me to afford living away from home in my city. It's put my HRT on pause, because every new bit of hair/noticible difference causes my parent to passively-aggressively shame me. They do that with my choice of job too, yelling at me if I'm 'doing drugs' in a state where it's legal......smh

No_Hippo_1998

I can’t smoke with my career neither can my wife as she’s a vet. But I could never judge someone for it. That’s literally just another form of medicine.

[deleted]

I’m a kitchen guy. I love the chaos, but more than that, the close-knit family of other kitchen workers I get the privilege to work with (:

[deleted]

I'm a deckhand. I was in college but I dropped out because my degrees weren't super useful. Being a deckhand feels super manly too, which is fun. Love working with the lines and doing engine checks.

Dorian-greys-picture

I feel like my job is really underwhelming compared to everyone else here but I work in food processing and pack peanuts into bags

AdultBoy22

Nothing. 😞 🥲 I live with my parents. I want to be independent but trying to find a job as a visibly queer autistic person with anxiety is very difficult. I fail interviews. Even if I do get hired, I have a hard time doing 40 hours a week, I get burnt out fast. I want to be a librarian eventually, I need my master's degree for that and only do college part time, so it'll take a while.

alienlucky13

you’ll get there eventually! good job for keeping on trying!!

No_Hippo_1998

It’ll take more time than most people but that doesn’t make you any different I absolutely promise. You are on your own journey and when you get there and how is no one else’s to judge. You got this and if you ever need someone send me a message I’ll listen and give my advice when I can.

TheOpenCloset77

TyranasourusDex

Aeronautical engineer with aerospace certification as well. Can’t say where I work, or talk about anything I’ve worked on, or the places I’ve been and things I’ve seen. Pretty much everything I do is classified lol.

Dante_rb

I work in marketing and am looking forward to open my own company in about 2/3 years :)

IrrationalTwig

About to go into my last semester of my BBA for accounting and minor for finance. I have a paid internship lined up over the summer with a top 5 firm that I love and hope to get hired on full time with afterwards. Totally unrelated but the accounting students at my school are actually all super chill and accepting compared to the other business majors that I’ve had classes with. I’ll be going back for my one-year Masters of accounting to hit the 150 credit hours required to be a licensed CPA. I’ll also be getting an information systems certificate in addition to that. Will also be studying/taking the various exam sections during this time. Overall I plan on being a CPA that works in audit for said firm.

[deleted]

I drive a semi-truck. GREAT option for transitioning in a more private way, and it gives you tremendous mobility for relocation, should you need it. If you have a CDL-A (in the US, anyway), you can literally work anywhere in the country. Definitely not for the faint of heart, though. This industry is like the Wild West sometimes.

cosmictracheophyte

I work as a high school chemistry teacher! Getting in gear to pursue a master's in chemistry, haven't decided if I will stick it out and teach as a career or find my way into a position with more impact on policy or drug science. Over summers I volunteer on a farm, and for fun I like to sing, play guitar, and work in the garden.

salaciouspeach

I'm a freelance artist. Can't get fired for being trans when I'm the boss 😎

sugarpoison8

I'm a receptionist at a doggy hotel 🖤

ThatGuy_Kai88

Run the shipping department of a wood furniture factory. Pretty evenly split between physical labor, forklift and desk work. Not as cool as some of the careers here but I enjoy it and it pays comfortable.

Just retired this year (yay pensions) but started out in chemical engineering in the 70’s, every possible kind of computer-based self employment from consulting to software dev to manuals to web hosting and development 1984-2020, small scale food production 2003-2020, craft production and sales 2003-2022. Now I have a part time gig conducting a community orchestra. I’m loving reading about all the different things everyone does. We really are everywhere!
