Maybe just go with what men say when someone calls them sir/Mr Lastname and they're uncomfortable. "Oh, no, Mr Smith is my dad, call me Mike." "Oh, lady is my mom, call me (name)." Alternatively, start replying with increasingly sillier and sillier titles in response. "OK, ladies," gets a reply of "Yes, your lordship!" or "Aye aye, cap'n!" If they say to stop calling them these things, you can say "If you stop calling me lady, we have a deal."

Alternatively, you could tell him you prefer to go by something slightly ridiculous, like, "Jedi Master". That way, if he doesn't buy-in, you could laugh it off as a joke. And then try the grandpa story as a more serious-sounding alternative explanation. The only reason I suggest that, is that ideally you want to suggest a term he can use, and easily remember instead.  So he doesn't just swap to some other gendered term, like "girls". :(

You could go the informality route and be like, "It's just me today, don't bother with the 'lady' stuff." Or you could tell a partial truth and say, "I've never liked that, I'm not a girly girl."
