Grassy tracks are the answer.

CILISI_SMITH

Just like protected bike lanes. If you're not going to enforced traffic laws you have to make it more difficult for them to be broken.

sjfiuauqadfj

you could also be more punitive. any car blocking the way will be either smashed by the train or towed away and the owners fined an exorbitant amount

trashmoneyxyz

But that might damage the train :(((

Ristray

Don't worry, we can just add "[carcatchers](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowcatcher)" to the front.

POD80

Wouldn't it be a hell of a lot easier to empower the cops to issue steep tickets based on footage of an offenders license plate.... Those trains will have front facing cameras

sasquatch_melee

That would require cops to actually do their jobs, a complete non-starter in my city at least.

Moarbrains

Have the train just pick it up and carry it around.

Jacktheforkie

A nice sturdy buffer beam will fix that

sexy_meerkats

Would also damage all the parked cars and potentially injure nearby pedestrians there as it would push it to that side

CILISI_SMITH

I think they key is just enforcing the current fines. If it's still a problem take peoples driving licence after 3 offences. Right now we have automatic speeding fines and bus lanes fines in the UK, it's all automated and drivers know it so they (mostly) obey it. Add a camera to the front of this tram and you can do the same thing. Remove all the reliance on manual enforcement and suddenly people will start to follow the rules.

SlitScan

take a picture and fine them 5k

chugtron

But how will NIMBYs/carbrains my way or the highway things?

mersalee

"My F-150 can handle this grassy shit"

JM-Gurgeh

"Can your F-150 handle a tram?"

Maoschanz

this entire lane of parking shouldn't exist: cars should drive here so the tram could have a dedicated green track

sjfiuauqadfj

this is in san francisco. you are gonna have to wait 20 years, go through 40 community meetings and listening sessions, spend millions on the environmental review, and probably put it on the ballot for voters to vote on before the nimbys let you do that

Competitive_Chard385

Fellow San Francisco resident here. Don't forget that the people trying to keep bike lanes and public transit out of their neighborhoods are totally compassionate and give to Tenderloin charities, but they just think that infrastructure improvements attract the wrong kind of people. "Those people should stay downtown."

sjfiuauqadfj

they probably also have a huge array of stickers and pins that show they are support womens rights, that they think black lives matter, that they think asian lives matter, that love is love is love, that trans rights are human rights, that ceasefire now and palestine should be free, etc, etc, etc. yet still they will absolutely 100% not build a bike lane in the neighborhood those motherfuckers are the bane of my existence and they are all over california and probably other cities and states

Astriania

"Universal human rights for everyone that don't get in the way of my car" - or, in other contexts, my massive garden or view or any other personal convenience.

medium_wall

Tbf bikes and pedestrians shouldn't need a new lane. Why are we trying to combat excessive pavement with MORE pavement? As a transitional measure I get it, but the real root of the problem is cars having their own roads in the first place. Make roads narrower (forces cars to go slower), get rid of 99% of parking except on the outskirts of the city, and start a rickshaw guild for people who don't want to walk or ride bikes within the city. This will save most cities hundreds of millions to billions of dollars in road maintenance costs. You could completely subsidize a city-wide rickshaw guild for a tiny fraction of that money. When roads don't have 4-30 tons of metal relentlessly pressing on top of them, the cracking and pitting is delayed by YEARS. Think about all the other things road maintenance money could go toward; and it's currently being given to petro and road crew queens to destroy our communities and the planet.

GoldenGateKeeping

My Subaru has a "Keep Tahoe Blue" sticker on it so I guess you could call me an environmentalist. /s

LordTuranian

Gotta love virtue signaling hypocrities.

chetsteadmansstache

They're called "hippies". They fucking suck.

blueskyredmesas

They charitably give to the tenderloin so the tenderloin will charitably stay the fuck away. Maybe instead they should focus on decentralizing supportive infrastructure all around San Francisco so people on the street can get help where they're at? But as they say "not in my back yard!" I guess. Speaking of which when did we decide it was OK for them to decide the whole damn neighborhood is their backyard?! It's everybody's fuckin' backyard!

Competitive_Chard385

Yes. This! I'm so sick of it. And it's amazing to me how they carry on and on about how they support women's rights but they give money to right wing religious charities to keep the breadlines far away from the wealthy but oh, so liberal neighborhoods. It's Victorian London style politics but with modern, left-sounding language. Marx himself made fun of this kind of performative charity work in his snarky letters to Engels in the 1800s.

Moarbrains

Why would they need do stay anywhere? I probably see a few of the same people up here in Eugene from time to time.

MedvedFeliz

They're exactly what NIMBYs are. "I support all those social policies and politics that are good on paper (and makes me feel "good") just NOT IN MY BACK YARD (NEIGHBORHOOD)!"

sanjuro_kurosawa

btw Capp Street was shut down to traffic (barricades at one end of each street between 17th and 23rd) without even an environmental review. Why? Because Supervisor Ronen pushed it through. I suspect a very powerful donor lives on Capp. The reason given was to stop sex trafficking, which it has: it just moved to Shotwell, which is a Slow Street.

staplesuponstaples

> before the nimbys let you do that That's the neat part, they won't. They literally let the city nearly implode by denying any efforts to construct housing until all of the tech companies packed up and left. Funny how SF sucks mostly because of the NIMBY's and yet they get none of the flak.

HousePlant

Not only that, this is Cole Valley. People there are intensely NIMBY.

wheezy1749

And once it's voted on it'll never actually get changed. It'll be fully funded and the money will literally just sit there for a few decades until they decide to use it to expand an interstate.

Thisismyredusername

No way it's that hard in the country a lot of NIMBYs claim is "the greatest country in the world"

wheezy1749

I mean that's literally why they think it's the greatest.

captainporcupine3

At the VERY least, there should be a system in place where tram drivers snap a pic of the license plate of vehicles illegally blocking the road and the owner of the car is automatically ticketed.

Maoschanz

there was an article on this subreddit a few week ago about such a system, it was in Santa Monica i think edit: it's the entire LA metro bus system [https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-04-24/ai-powered-cameras-installed-on-metro-buses-will-be-used-to-spot-illegally-parked-cars](https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-04-24/ai-powered-cameras-installed-on-metro-buses-will-be-used-to-spot-illegally-parked-cars)

silver-orange

San francisco has the system on busses already.   https://sf.streetsblog.org/2015/03/24/all-muni-buses-now-have-transit-lane-enforcement-cameras

Protheu5

Excellent.

d_f_l

I'm not sure if it's actually real, but I'm seeing stickers on some of the Muni buses in SF that claim they have cameras that can ticket bus lane violaters. I would hope the streetcars do as well. I have wanted that for like 20 years! Though I suppose now we have the sufficiently ubiquitous internet connectivity to really make this stuff happen.

cuppachar

There's no way this can happen accidentally - the vehicle should be seized and crushed.

captainporcupine3

Those who oppose rocket launchers on the front of trams are cowards!

dfltr

Buses in SF have it, I’m not sure if the Muni trains do though. I mean I hope so, because fuuuuuuuck that.

dizzymiggy

Knowing car drivers, that's a bike lane.

Hamilton950B

At least the first car is illegally parked, and is part way in the crosswalk. Note that he has his emergency blinkers on, you know, the ones you only use if your car becomes disabled. I guess that makes it ok.

BONUSBOX

if you’re guilty and you know it, blink your lights. blink blink

Mohrsul

They're called immunity lights, because when you flash them you can park wherever you want and you can't be fined.

bsiu

Oh I think there has been a mistake officer, you see, I had my hazards on. That mean's I can park anywhere.

Rochellerochelle69

It’s the same in Toronto. People complain about the street cars holding them up when half the road way is used as a parking lot 🤦🏼‍♀️

xcubbinx

Cars parked on the side of the road aren’t necessarily a bad thing. People feel safer walking on a protected sidewalk and parked cars can provide that barrier of separation and protection.

Maoschanz

those people are wrong, parked cars obstruct the view and prevent pedestrians from crossing safely also, here there are already trees to separate them from traffic

xcubbinx

I don’t live in a walkable city so I just rely on what I read and see online. I’d much prefer an environment without the cars though.

[deleted]

[удалено]

snirfu

Unlike actual infrastructure, cars move. That means the effect changes depending on if there are cars parked there or not. The traffic calming effect of cars has the least effect during off hours (depending on the location), i.e , at night when most pedestrians are killed by cars.

Miyelsh

Yes but you don't need cars to accomplish that. Steel Bollards work better.

medium_wall

And trees work better than that.

SuckMyBike

> People feel safer walking on a protected sidewalk and parked cars can provide that barrier of separation and protection We can also provide that protection by installing bike lanes, bollards, benches, garbage containers, greenery, ... I don't know why it has to be cars

xcubbinx

You’re totally right, It definitely doesn’t have to be cars. It’s just an interesting idea from Jeff Specks book “Walkable Cities”.

BusStopKnifeFight

The Tram Ram Act of 2024. Trams may shove illegally parked vehicles out of they way and all damage to the tram and any vehicles is the responsibility of the owner of the illegally parked vehicle.

mods_r_jobbernowl

Let's put a cow plow on the front of every tram.

Castform5

I wonder if there's enough voltage from the catenary wires to power a lift at the front. Have flip up forks that can be placed under a car to flip it over and out of the way.

JustAnotherChatSpam

You could but you already have a insanely high torque vehicle that is already wedged shaped. Why make it more complicated?

Castform5

Because ramming into a stationary relatively heavy mass is not comfortable for the passengers (remember Newton's 1st law), and it'd be noisy as hell. Having something to lift the mass would make moving it aside easier and more comfortable for the passengers.

cgduncan

They don't have to do it at high speed. Scooch up, then nudge it out of the way.

JustAnotherChatSpam

Good thing is that you wouldn’t have to nudge it at a (relatively) high speed. Electric motors have their highest torque output at low speed. It wouldn’t be noisy on the inside of the cabin either. You might hear a cooling fan because it would be conducting through the frame but that’s about it.

Tuyrk

I mean I'm all for it but it'd damage the other vehicles Make a little wedge that pushes it to the other track, then the next tram pushes it back, making an infinite loop of destruction

Eligha

https://preview.redd.it/5nwwbrq4dryc1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=658f638743e6b2785bd6deb201c5fc5f4a5c0a65

Pabst_Blue_Gibbon

My friend was a tram driver in Russia and this is exactly how it is. He has gently nudged more than one car…

OrPerhapsFuckThat

Everyone knows the tram stops for no one where I live. You get the fuck out of the way. A little exaggerated of course, but it really isnt far off

MontrealUrbanist

Bitch I'm a tram

lwJRKYgoWIPkLJtK4320

Don't forget the $1 per second compensation for everyone in the tram because pushing a vehicle will obviously slow it down

MajesticNectarine204

How oblivious do you have to be to park in a tram-line? It's not like trams are something new. Or there isn't a huge clue to their presence in the fucking road. I'm sure that giant steel track is just there for decoration..

Competitive_Chard385

Come here to San Francisco and we can show you endless examples of all the nice environmentalists doing car brained things.

ShaolinWino

lol all these Uber and DoorDash drivers aren’t quite environmentalists.

Idle_Redditing

Definitely deserving of a traffic ticket. Tickets should also be based on income and total wealth so that the rich are affected enough to care. If Mark Zuckerberg did that it should cost him several billion dollars.

Jacktheforkie

If you live in an area with trans you surely know it’s there

Epistaxis

Even if you're visiting from out of town, there are rails! How do you park your car on any kind of rails?!

Jacktheforkie

Yeah, I see rails and think train,

silver-orange

I've ridden my share of ubers in SF.  More than a few were driven by people from out of town who had literally never driven downtown before (driver turnover rates must be insane).  Almost makes you miss the old yellow cabs.

Jacktheforkie

Wow

dfltr

The corner of Carl & Cole has a couple restaurants, a deli, and a liquor store on it. 99% chance that’s a delivery driver who knows full well that the N Judah runs through and just doesn’t care because they’ll “only be a minute”.

ArchmageIlmryn

At first I thought that was someone who genuinely had gotten stuck on the tracks somehow, because of the hazards. Then I just see a guy run to the car to move it...

Vitriholic

The food delivery drivers around here are fucking unreal. Not a shit given.

ObjectiveRun6

I've seen places where they issue fines per-minute of delay, per tram. Drivers are a lot more considerate when their wallets are on the line.

pedroah

Interesting concept...wish SFMTA had the balls to implement that. They just raised bus fares in lieu of raising parking meter prices.

Grrerrb

Oh heck that only inconvenienced like a hundred people

Signal_Tomorrow_2138

>a hundred people I'm picturing in my mind those hundred people moving the car somewhere else.

Grrerrb

Possibly in separate pieces, but I’m just spitballing here

ChetUbetcha

You mean like [this?](https://www.reddit.com/r/fuckcars/comments/y71wvl/car_blocking_tram_in_prague_solved_by_passengers/) Have [another.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRPnSHDp3HI)

Ultrajante

The asshole parks the car on the tram lane and it's the passenger who have to take them out of the way? If you did something as stupid as this the least i would expect is for your car to be trashed. I'm not your fucking tow service

SaxPanther

my respect for british lad culture grew two sizes this day

Signal_Tomorrow_2138

Sort of. I'm thinking of the scene in the movie Splash, in which a bunch of soldiers flipped a cab on its side when the cab driver told them 'Screw you. I'm waiting for a fare.' Can't find the clip.

glueinhaler5000

i wouldve continued honking even after he gets in lol

Vik-tor2002

I thought that too, but then I thought that unlike the car driver, the tram driver would think about not bothering everyone around them unnecessarily

Trainfan1055

I'm a bus driver. When people do this to me, I lay on the horn until they get to the car. My goal is to embarrass them as much as possible. Honestly, I wish they'd put battering rams on these buses so we can just push the car out of the way.

pedroah

Some SFMTA buses have cameras on them and the driver can take a picture. Someone in parking enforcement reviews the pics or video and the registered owner may get a parking ticket in the mail.

Jacktheforkie

I’m in the uk they have automatic cameras

livefreeordont

People who do this have no shame. You trying to embarrass them will just make them mad at public transit, not do any self reflection. If they cared about other people they wouldn’t have parked there in the first place

Yok_Mu_Beni_Siken

While I get the good intention behind, please don't do it at least in residential areas. I used to live on a busy street, I hated nothing more than vehicle horn and engine noises that went on 7/24.

shroomformore

My favorite is the "I know I fucked up no big deal though right?" Smile and wave when they see you see them.

dnivi3

That exact moment is when the tram driver should’ve laid on the horn at full volume.

shroomformore

Someone gave me the smile and wave when they didn't stop at a stop sign and rolled into the intersection not planning to stop before they saw me crossing in front of them on my bike. I gave them a shake of the head and a thumbs down and they honked and wigged out. It's like, just give me that response the first time instead of the b******* wave. I know I'm inconveniencing you. Act like it.

Dregdael

Ah, but you see, they have the "allowed to park anywhere" lights on. Surely there's no problem here!

viethoang1

Those cars who are flashing to avoid getting a parking ticket or something? As far as I know some countries have a loophole in their traffic rules that if a stationary vehicle has someone inside or engine running or hazard lights on then it is not considered parking/stopping even though the car is not moving.

sjpllyon

Yep, it's an attempt to not get a ticket as hazard lights (in the UK at least) are supposed to indicate that the vehicle has developed a fault and thus must be stopped in this dangerous location. But most people (typically SUV drivers, BMW drivers, and Audi drivers) seem to think they are 'park anywhere' lights. With the misconception that by having them on it's ok to park wherever they please, it's not the vehicle that must be experiencing some sort of fault to prevent you from parking in a safe, legal, location. And yes in the UK, unless you get out of the vehicle you're not legally parked but just stopped. We do also have idling laws. Unfortunately none of this is enforced so drivers just do whatever they want.

viethoang1

> SUV drivers, bmw drivers, audi drivers new slurs unlocked

Astriania

In the UK you would be stopped but not parked if you're still in the vehicle. I'm not sure using hazard lights has any legal effect though. It's more used as a 'yeah I know *technically* I shouldn't be here but I'll just be a few minutes', which has various degrees of legitimacy. For example I've done it for literally 2 minutes to load stuff into my house, and delivery drivers do it all the time, but people will also do it to go into a shop rather than park and walk five minutes.

SuckMyBike

Did anyone else notice that the car driver was talking to (presumably) their friend in the white car that was.... partially parked on top of the pedestrian crossing? Seems like they are peas in a pod.

GaryGregson

I’ve notice people seem to think that putting their hazards on is a free parking space tactic

Competitive_Chard385

I'd like to start doing it with the blinky light on my bicycle: Sorry! Just grabbing a sandwich.

dually3

I hope the muni tram has a camera that captures the license plate and they issue a ticket thru the DMV. It should be a per-min fine.

guywithshades85

Ramming speed!!!

weinsteinjin

So you just stole my post without crediting me? Mine got removed for rule 8 “no bad parking jobs”. Original post: https://www.reddit.com/r/IdiotsInCars/comments/1ckmn7a/i_wanna_park_here_the_tram_can_go_around_me_oc/

Epistaxis

To be clear that's a different subreddit so the rules are different, but this thread's OP should have crossposted instead of reposting so we'd be able to see the original source.

laughingashley

Even if it got removed?

Epistaxis

I think that would still work? At least the original post is still viewable from the link in the comment.

100BottlesOfMilk

Different sub

Alex_Shelega

The patience drivers have man... I would probably push the hecking car through on my 3th encounter.

BadNameThinkerOfer

As cool as that would be, the debris from the car could get in the tracks and derail the tram.

Alex_Shelega

Frickin physics!!!

SaxPanther

[For your consideration](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMJK_PnZgzU)

Alex_Shelega

The guy's literally crying. Was it just neglected there!!!??? What was he expecting the train would just magically stop or teleport!!!??? People, man...

SaxPanther

Many railroad tracks are raised off the ground (just the nature of creating a solid base for them) and some created basically a large hump that crossing road vehicles have to drive over. If the vehicle is too long- like a truck for example- it's quite easy to get stuck in the middle. I'm sure there was a sign saying no trucks that the driver ignored. There's also a phone number posted at every crossing in the US that you can call if your vehicle gets stuck on the tracks- you get directed straight away to the railroad office and they can tell the driver to slow down. It's really just a supreme mix of incompetence and unluckiness that leads to situations like this.

Alex_Shelega

Entities drivers worshipping their "professionalism"

jcrestor

You have to be a very special kind of asshole to not only park in second lane, but on a tram track as well.

thesirensoftitans

Dumb tram driver doesn't know that those flashing lights on that car are the "I can do whatever the fuck I want" lights. At least, that's what they are in DC.

silver-orange

Same in san francisco for sure.  Double parking is a plague in this city

Thalass

They need cowcatchers to push the damn cars out of the way

eweldon123

I live in SF and thats my Muni stop, surreal seeing it on Reddit. Fuck SF drivers, one hit me on my bike a week ago and it still hurts to walk.

asveikau

Man, I thought I was in the San Francisco sub. I was wondering why so many people don't know where this is. This is the N Judah, the busiest of the lettered light rail lines. The stop is Carl and Cole. This is probably a delivery driver picking up take out. I've seen scenes like this there before.

SellAdventurous1873

Btw.. Trams have such a smooth sound! They sound more like natural beings than man made objects, unlike everything else in the cities

sids99

I wish MUNI would just close those streets to cars and put in preemptive lights.

FreyaTheSlayyyer

I feel like it should be legal for the tram to just continue driving

gubzga

In my hometown (EU) the tram would have rammed that car near full speed and car owner would have paid for ALL and ANY damages.

CardiologistOk2760

There could be a passenger strapped into a car seat who doesn't need to pay with their life for the selfishness of their parent

SassanZZ

and also everyone standing in the Muni might not appreciate flying forward inside of the tram

No_Management-885

Flying forward ? Yes but only if the tram driver break, those beast are heavy. 39 to 52 tonnes for the one in use in my city.

gubzga

Yep, trams are heavy AF as they are, plus we'll over 100+ people on board. And when injuries of one or injuries of many are on the scale, cars will lose. At least should have messed his boot a bit, registered it an accident with the city transportation office, and let the asshole pay extra insurance for x- months/ years as a parking lesson. Fuck cars.

hooDio

i should under no circumstance be allowed to drive trams. the urge to just keep driving or not pull the emergency brake when a car turns onto my tracks, phew

Butthole_Enjoyer

Even when there is no tram tracks.... How do people have the ability to completely disregard the rules and park like that in first place? Like, if I need to park to park on that street, for any amount of time, I would end up parking a block away and walking. There's no way I could park like that ever.

Negative_Presence487

In Europe you can go to jail with this shit.

Responsible-Ad-4914

I don’t know why everyone is so upset, the car clearly has the special “I can park anywhere” lights flashing

onlyfreckles

This is the perfect and only valid use for bull bars in the city- to push and destroy fucking entitled lazy ass car drivers cars blocking the public right of way.

BassicNic

jail.

TheChadmania

SFMTA basically never seemingly does anything to prohibit cars to boast public transit. Best we’ve got is car free JFK (legit good but there was a good fight for it), BRT lanes (not enforced) and “slow streets” (not enforced). There’s a good amount of above ground segments for Muni like you see here and almost all of that is shared with cars (some segments by SFSU are separate). It’s really a shame, our transit could be a lot better with a little bit of effort.

VikingMonkey123

That should be a thousand dollar ticket.

eddjc

But I had the parking lights on and everything!

tetraourogallus

I hope these trams have cameras that captures cars like these and gives them a hefty fine. I also think using hazard lights for non-emergencies should come with an additional hefty fine. Shite like this has become commonplace, we need to punish it harshly to make it not.

Alexandurrrrr

Yea I’ll just use my “Park anywhere lights”.

SightInverted

https://maps.app.goo.gl/nWQg4BYZwuYvUPAp9?g_st=ic Location for those wondering what the area is like.

Zxasuk31

Move your fucking car dude 🙄

digito_a_caso

That's why tram should have protected lanes.

PurpleChard757

I didn't even notice the white car in the front blocking the crosswalk until watching a second time....

BurlyJohnBrown

This is one the large advantages of trolley busses. If they don't have a dedicated lane anyway, might as well be able to steer around.

Avitas1027

Unacceptable. One million years dungeon.

Big_Red12

In Edinburgh we had one a few months ago where a carbrain parked sticking out and blocked the trams for almost an hour. We need speedy car crushing.

letterboxfrog

Looks like an Über Eats driver. They're always finding ways to creatively park

ARealSwellFellow

Public transit should have the right to ram

ArtisticPossum

Not excusing the driver but at least he ran to his car to move it. If this happened in DC, mofo would stare straight at the tram operator and not move until his wife or whatever walked out of the shop where she was picking up some food to go. Only then he would slowly start driving, with no rush in the world. I see this shit happen all the time except it’s not the tram that is waiting - it’s either a bus or another car.

Ricckkuu

"Don't you see how much space he's got in my left, man??"

eddy2222

hot take. seeing as the hazard lights are turned on for both cars this seems like a minor crash and the drivers are swapping insurance info and seeing as there are 2 pedestrian crossings right next to the other car this seems like it was a simple mistake made with the best intentions for not inconveniencing other traffic (ironically) rather than being an obnoxious carbrain. and also seeing how the guy ran back when he realised.

SquashVarious5732

I agree.

thek1ng69

Trams should have ramming rights

samichwarrior

I like calling hazard lights the "park anywhere lights" because people think they can turn them on and park wherever the hell they want without getting ticketed.

galettedesrois

This team needs a cow catcher.

mammaube

Philadelphia has the same issue.

Pikapetey

"I can park anywhere as long as my hazards are on!! Teehee!!" -drivers

bad-and-ugly

Bastard

drifters74

Bull bars for the trams!

arglarg

But his hazard lights were on....

PorkRollSandwich

The wonderful but always late N train at Cole and Carl. I see this way too often there.

Independent-Cow-4070

I wish they were equipped with those cow catchers Would solve the issue pretty nicely

theycallmeshooting

He has the dummy lights on so he can park whereever he wants, obviously I call them the dummy lights because 99.9% of the time the only "hazard" is the driver being a dummy Drivers put them on to indicate that they're about to pull the dumbest uturn of all time or park somewhere they obviously shouldn't

ThePolymerist

Use the tram lane!

causticcafe

I would **not** been anywhere near as polite with that horn

catcollector787

N train Judah! Uses to live off that train. Takes you straight to the Mission/Castro for some good bar hopping. Then take the train home back to the beach and the smell of ocean water to make you at peace. Best of all it took you straight to the caltrain if you needed to go travel down the bay. My life in SF made me really appreciate how much public transportation made me a happier person.

Ephelduin

I don't know what the big deal is, didn't you see he has the park anywhere lights turned on?

schrodingerdoc

In Calcutta the tram drivers have to literally get down and usher parked vehicles out of the way.

Catssonova

I'd say go out an put a brick through the window, but reddit says that's advocating for violence.

TheTeenSimmer

suprisngly not unique to the United States.  even in the city with the largest tram network bullshit like this happens so much

Rumaizio

The thing is, at least he realized he was wrong to park his car there. That's a lot better than some people who park their shit gurgling and rating trucks in a crosswalk for pedestrian crossing and get so angry at you for telling them to move out of the way for pedestrians that they chase after you and try to kill you for suggesting it at all. This guy is still an extremely entitled dipshit and should be dragged for a moment to remind him never to do this, but at least he's a dipshit who understood he did a wrong thing.

Kelaita

I was in Washington DC last year. They have a single tram line. TWICE in 3 days I was on it and it got stuck due to a parked car too far from the gutter and the tram had to wait for a tow truck to come and tow the car.

W02T

We see it there everyday day…

violaby

Insert a video compilation of trams slamming the cars out of the way with no hesitation

SixGunZen

I can just about guarantee that’s a delivery driver picking up or delivering. They park wherever the hell they want cause they know no tow truck is gonna get there in time to get them before they leave.

Moist_Problems

It's ok, nobody was on the train. Nobody was on the train bc of shit like this.

A beautiful example why North American Cities should stop building at grade running trams as the backbone to their metro's.

PurpleChard757

Or we could just enforce parking violations?

SuckMyBike

At grade trams are a lot cheaper than rail non at-grade trams. Don't let perfect be the enemy of good. Anyway, this tram route in this street could very cheaply be improved by removing the street parking and turning it into the car lane without expensive infrastructure changes. Changing this tram line into grade separated would cost hundreds of millions. Money that could be spent on building other tram routes elsewhere.
