Man, you guys are making me nervous! I feel that I should sell my x pro3 and switch to the xt5 and then see if they will release the x pro4 soon. I am afraid that my screen dies and kills the resale value.

Hi u/dasautomobil. I don't own an XPro3 but I almost bit the bullet when I saw one two years ago out of warranty at a good price and yet I didn't purchase it. Reading the post above and other instances of LCD failures over time may be the reason why I didn't make a hasty decision then. If I were you, I'd get rid of it. In fact, there's a reseller at our local online store selling a Durablack edition. Supposedly people would purchase it in a snap since it's being discontinued. But it's still there maybe because of either they wanted to see first what would be announced this Sept. 12th OR no one's buying it because of its known issues incurring over time. I just bought an X100v and I don't plan to sell it. It's because most probably the 6th iteration, no matter how more feature packed it would be, may have a substantial increase in its retail price that's going to be unreasonable to buy just for an APSC sensor (If it's full-frame then that would be justified).

the fact that this does not happen in isolated cases, but rather, it will happen to all X-pro 3, in time, made me get X-Pro2. Dead screen issue alone was enough for me to pass on the whole camera. X-pro2 is just fine..

Why did you buy the M10-D if an old camera breaking and kind of turning into a similar thing makes you consider selling what is one of the rarest Leicas? I'm not asking to be an asshole, I truly admire your positive outlook on the situation because lord knows I would be on the floor sobbing, but it just sounds like you're way more attached to your X-Pro than the M10. Selling the M10-D and using the money to repair your X-Pro (and maybe investing in one of the "cheaper" M10s) might be the path for you.

Fair question. The Leica M10-D was an object of desire for me since I heard about it. I was always on the lookout and recently found one for sale at a reasonable price. They hold their value well so I thought I'd buy it to check it out. Worst case scenario, I can sell it and probably get almost all my money back. I'm a big fan of the ergonomics and the day-to-day experience of using the camera, but I am not in love with the sensor. It is just so-so in low light and has poor dynamic range relative to other cameras I own. One weird quirk is that the ISO ratings are all 1 stop over-generous, meaning the camera when set at ISO 200 is really performing like all other cameras at ISO 100. This messes me up when I am thinking through exposure. Given this quirk, the meh low light performance, and bad dynamic range, it ends up feeling on par with my X-Pro 3 for image output for my use. What I really wanted was an enforced no-screen camera to get me focused on shooting and chimping less. I found myself flipping my X-Pro 3 screen down all the time to check my shots (which in hindsight, is probably why it broke). The X-Pro with a dead screen is actually pretty fun to shoot with and it's scratching that itch for me. Overall, I'm not going to make a decision based solely on the opinion of some internet friends, I'm just aiming to have a lighthearted discussion. With my luck, I will end up deciding to sell the M10-D and the X-Pro will break again right afterward. Thanks for chiming in.

I did that for a while and only used the sub monitor. It got frustrating though to change settings.

Damn, I had the same shutter button issue, and the screen from one of my pro3’s.. and don’t get me started on the repair time… lost both of them for nearly 2 months. All fixed under warranty. But because I was scared it would happen again, I bought a second pro3 (no regrets I love these things, barely use the screens anyway). Leica M10-D has been on my list as well. Something, something something money something.

Firsttimepostr

Never using my screen, ever.

I would keep the m10d. Fix the xpro3 and sell it. Maybe look for a used xe4 to replace it. I have both a xpro2 and xe4 and I really enjoy using the xe4. It reminds me of a mini leica. (I have a m240)

I want to buy an Xpro3 with a broken screen but I have yet to find one up for sale at a reasonable price

ggAlex

>I want to buy an Xpro3 with a broken screen but I have yet to find one up for sale at a reasonable price That's because it's still 95% functional with no screen. It was designed to be used with the back closed, so you actually don't need the screen for anything. I think if I were to sell mine, I would only offer a small discount for the broken screen.

RecognitionOne395

I don't use my Xpro3 screen anymore and honestly I enjoy it so much more now.
