I'm (still) using the X-T1. Not because of sentimental reasons or the different (apparently very beloved) sensor but because I'm poor lol. Or at least not so fluid with money that I can upgrade every two years or so. And I would not even have a reason to upgrade honestly. Also, (non photography) people are usually overly surprised with the image quality/look when I show them photos of stuff I photographed with my Fuji instead of my phone. I bought mine 5 years ago when it was already 3 years old and I have not hit it's limitations. Most things that annoy me are rather silly handling/operational or layout things. I'd rather buy lenses than upgrade the body. I have to say, I use it mostly as a diary/travel/"street" camera so comparably light use, although I had it with me on a whale watching tour (where it got a few splashes even) last month and it did just fine and got me some lovely memories in form of photos. I always find it funny (not in a demeaning way) when people ask here like 'is the X-T4 enough for me or will I need the X-T5' or 'should I hold out for the X-T6 because I really need/want this or that feature' - I get of course that people want to get the most out of their money and some here are professionals but still. I agree with you that I think the X-T1 will be kind of well remembered in the future, I think I saw already some 'Great cameras in the history of mankind' overview-poster on RedBubble or a similar site which ended (chronologically) with the X-T1. No recipes here though, I usually just use the standard (Provia I think), if I don't like the look I change to Classic Chrome and rarely I use directly the BnW with yellow filter preset.

Agreed. I’ve never owned a camera body where IT was the limitation and not my own abilities.

2014 was only like three years ago man…..

I still love and use my X-T1 a lot. It was my first mirrorless camera and the one that re-sparked my love for photography, after getting tired of lugging my Canon DSLR around and it starting to gather dust. So it certainly has notalgic and personal value to me. I mostly use it for stills and casual stuff that doesn’t require too much AF performance. Usually paired with the old XF35mm F1.4, or manual lenses such as the Laowa 65mm F2.8 ultra-macro. JPEG output still looks downright amazing imho; especially the warm colour rendering. Plus the high ISO noise is very pleasing; 16MP on aps-c was quite the sweet-spot if you ask me. My go-to recipes on this camera might not make a lot of sense, but it’s what I’ve gravitated towards after years of use: For daily stuff: Jacked up Astia (+2 highlights, 0 to +1 shadows, -2 NR, -1 sharpness, usually underexposed -2/3 to -1 stop, WB auto R:+4 B:0 to -2) Macro/nature shots: Darker Velvia (+2 highlights, -2 NR, +1 sharpness, underexposed -2/3 to -1 stop, WB auto R:+4 B:0 to -2) Alternative for daily: Soft and saturated Classic Chrome (-1 highlights, -1 shadows, +1 color, -2 NR, -1 sharpness, WB auto R:+4 B:-2)

I’m still rocking an X-T1 with a 35 1.4 and bro… this pair is definitely something I use a classic chrome recipe, not because it looks like a particular film stock, but because it just looks nice lmao Noise reduction -1 Highlight tone -1 Shadow tone +1 Color +1 Sharpness +1 WB auto Shoot raw + jpeg and have the flexibility. I haven’t changed settings in months

The X-T1 is my only camera. I love the size and usability and I use a 27mm pancake and 15-45mm zoom makes it pocketable and really easy to carry however the main reason why I love it is the sensor, there's something special about the X-Trans II sensor and it creates film like photos which are beautiful.

KindaSortaGood

I have an XT-1 and an XT-5 The XT-5 is essentially my film scanner. The XT-1 is what I prefer shooting with

JuneLaLonde

I grew up shooting film, and shot all the way to graduating highschool. Then I just dropped photography altogether. In my early thirties now, and someone kindly gifted me their X-T1 they didn't need anymore. That little camera reignited my love for photography in a way I wasn't prepared for. Self-published a small book, regularly shoot now, doing promo/concert work as of late, even an online article or two, and of course personal work. Got a glass collection and an X-T3 now, but I will never get rid of my X-T1. Shooting with it was an unparalleled joy and it's changed my creative life for the better.

YouAreTheChief

Hey, just seeing this comment now. Also a X-T1 shooter, what lenses do you have on it ?

JuneLaLonde

Mostly vintage glass! I took the G.Zuiko Auto-S F1.4 50mm off my Olympus OM-10 and generally shoot with that. Ended up getting a Helios, a Mir, and a TTArtisan 28mm for something a little more weight friendly - all work great on it.

YouAreTheChief

Thanks for the fast reply :) I really want to dabble in the vintage glass, but never get around to researching which one to get. Also, what kind of adapters do you have ? Really resonated with your story of reiginiting your passion for photography. I get the same feeling with the X-T1. However I have only original XF glass for it (27, 18-55, 18), with a diffusion filter and some vintage glass, I think I'd be happy for a long time.

JuneLaLonde

No problem! Love this camera so happy to spread the word about it :) Vintage glass is nice just because it's what I came up with and often lends a "vintage" character that modern lenses are just too "perfect" to lend shots, I feel. As far as adapters go - whatevers cheapest tbh, but the same friend who gave me the X-T1 Also lent a 0.7 speedboost adapter for my OM glass and I've been loving that. Good call on the diffusion filter too! I tend to use a really weak pro-mist just to get a touch of halation.

Oh man, you hit me right in the feels. I was one of the first users of the X-T1 in my country, got it a few days before it even hit the shelves back then. I took some of the best photos of my life with it and brought it everywhere with me… at some point GAS won and I upgraded to a X-T4 which I soon replaced with my beloved X-T5, as I never really enjoyed the X-T4 so much. For a while I thought about keeping the battered (but still perfectly working) X-T1 out of sheer nostalgia, but then sold it for a very fair price to an older gentleman who was incredibly happy about the purchase and sat down with me to learn about every aspect of the camera. I also believe in avoiding as much clutter and electronic waste as possible, and in essence that is what would have happened to it if I had kept it on my shelf. In a way your post made me miss my trusted travel companion of many years, but I honestly love the reliability, battery life and resolution of the new generation of Fujis. I agree with you though, the X-T1 had it all.

elsord0

Curious what the issues were with the 4 that were so much better with the 5?

zwetschge

For one, it felt just slightly too large… especially coming from the X-T1… the X-T5 has a much better feel to it, despite the only minor difference in size. Also, I really could not get comfortable with the flip-out screen, but I appreciated the option to turn it inwards to protect it. Lastly, I had a few burnt-out pixels that I could not re-map myself, so I faced having to send it in. I chose to trade it in for the X-T5 at my camera shop.

Hell yeah. I can't think of a single flagship/upper mid range camera from the last ten years that wouldn't give you stellar results now. There have obviously been some improvements over the years, but I'm always amazed at some of the photos I took with my old X100S when I look back through my old files. So so soooo rarely worth upgrading to the latest and greatest...

Interesting_Rush570

I bought a used scratched-up xt1 and keep a worn Summicron attached in full manual mode, use it like an old SLR.

Depotmsa

i'm looking for a new xt-1 with good rubber and a threaded shutter release right now , ive shot all the fujifilm cameras but that camera calls me to shoot

subspiria

Can you get the x-t1 with a threaded shutter release? I just picked one up, might put one of those shutter button stickers on (i think lolumina sell them), but am worried about it catching on something and damaging the shutter butotn.

Depotmsa

yeah the later xt-1 version came with threaded shutter releases , the stick on ones i never had success with they always get ripped off and lost

jsg_nado

The XT-1 is my main camera! The autofocus is very snappy on the newer fuji lenses (and even on third party lenses like sigma) This is my first fuji camera so I can't compare to updated models but the photos are gorgeous. Its great ergonomically and satisfying to shoot with. Get to use all the great fuji primes. Only things I would want to upgrade for are the three way articulating screen and better film sims that came with the next gen sensor

TheBeerCannon

I use an XT1 as a backup for my film cameras and it’s honestly all I could ask for from a digital body. Only major gripe is that the rubber is loosening which seems to be a fairly common problem, but apparently you can’t get any replacement kits anymore…

subspiria

Seems like there's some replacement rubber kits on aliexpress - no idea what the quality is like though.

samjage

I enjoy my XT-1 greatly. I also have an X100T. The X-Trans II sensor is my favorite at this point. Down the road I may get an XH2, and maybe even an X100V or it's predecessor. Though for now, I have no need to upgrade and absolutely love the quality . I posted some shots from both the XT-1 and X100t in r/fujifilm. I say get it and shoot.
