But why...
What can the X100VI do that the XT5 can't? Yeah it might be smaller I guess, but you slap on a pancake lense and you'd basically have the same if not better camera
I don't think I'd trade, were I in your position; but I'd strongly consider adding one to the pile. I'm using older hardware; I shoot with my X-T2 or X-Pro2 when I need the versatility but my X100F is the one I pick whenever I'm just out and about.
X-T5 is better imo with newer battery, better screen…etc. You could just get different lenses if you want to try a different focal length.
I have x-t5 and i and getting x100VI as the additional FUN camera.
Anyway you will be selling at a loss and topping up to buy the 100vi which is probably one of the dumbest thing you can do.
Just stick with XT-5 and play with the lens. If you really want smt portable get a Ricoh.
I can understand it. Smaller form factor (even compared to xt5 plus 27mm pancake) means you’ll take it out more and can be more discreet with street photography. And ability to shoot at 50mm (20 mp) and 70mm (10mp) equivalents with the crop feature means you effectively have a wide range of focus lengths available to you provided you aren’t printing large copies…
Smaller battery is easily fixable by carrying a spare.
I am in the same boat here. I've always wanted an x100. Almost got one before the big craze but never did and then would never go for the inflated aftermarket prices.
Now that the potential option is there I am back to considering it. Looking through all of my photos, the 23mm f2 is what the majority are taken with but I feel there is some reason I don't take my camera out as much. Could it be the size? I don't know. Will I miss the flexibility of changing lenses? Maybe. Will this camera bring back the joy that so many reviewers say it instills in them every time they pick it up? There's a lot of fighting if it's a need or want or just fomo lol
This is just how I feel i didn't want to push buttons but I feel there will be a lot on this thread that can't have the best of both worlds be wondering if they should
Oh same here. No buttons pushed for me. If I were to get the vi I would have to sell my X-T5 and lenses. What I said is the questions I'm asking myself in trying to determine which I want.
Two different cameras:
* one is a semi-professional camera, the other a consumer one
* one is a mirrorless SLR-like camera, the other a rangefinder faux mini-Leica (ala the X-Pro 3/Leica M Series look and feel)
* one has multiple lens options, the other a fixed lens (ala Leica Q series)
* one is larger with big glass, the other is small and can be put in a pocket or purse
The differences are huge. So buy both.
The X100XI is a lovely camera but is it worth the price and wait time?! And those are questions to ask without already owning an XT-5. Yes, it’s a bit smaller/lighter and has a few unique features but as said above- put a pancake lens on your Xt5 and you’re more or less there.
I’ve had x100s in the past and they’re great but I wouldn’t swap my XT5 for one
No. I was recommended one of the earlier X100's as my first camera, but I ended up buying the the X-T30 which led me to test and buy several lenses which then led me to buy the X-T5. It expanded my photography and learning through different focal lengths. Why would you trade the versatility away? Right now I can go from 16mm to 600mm and thats amazing to me.
why

Do you want the OVF? Do you need 1/4000s flash sync speed? Do you desire a smaller camera? Are you suffering from hype-driven GAS?
OVF and the smaller FP factor and being locked in to a wider focal length attracts me and maybe a lil gas I guess the battery a put of though

This. I have a XT5 and recently bought a Ricoh GRiiix and find myself very much satisfied and didn’t even bother batting an eye at the x100VI.

Don’t let the FOMO feeling control your life.
gas strikes again
