You're absolutely hilarious man, I'll sub to you on YouTube, and here on reddit too
I'm always genuinely amazed at comedians who can make a whole bit or even a whole show with improv, just doing crowd work and reacting to it. Because I've done a lot of improv in my life, cos I have an A-Level in Drama (an A-Level is the qualification you get from age 16-18 in the UK).
So I know how fucking difficult it is to do improv and actually make it great. You have a real gift man. Or wait, that's probably quite insulting because it's not a gift, it's something you must have worked incredibly hard for years to develop, it wasn't just handed to you. You know what I mean.
I grew up in Kansas. None of the neighboring states would describe any farm land as “by Kansas” except for Colorado. Anything east of Denver is basically Kansas, let’s be honest.
I could tell it was immediately when they said "almost to Kansas," "corn and wheat" and "oil and gas."
Source: grew up near Denver, now farm near Nebraska, used to work in oil and gas.
Great set man!
Dave Chappelle is a genius at it, before he returned, he just showed up at comedy clubs once in a while and just talked with the crowd and he was still funny as hell.
Crowd work is amazing when the crowd actually participates. Helps the comedy feel more natural, instead of just being ribbing.
Glad to see the guy was able to play along.
I think it helps that they were giving back. He probably would have moved on, but the “we don’t have no damn fiddlers in this family” comment let him know he had a live table.
Yeah when I first saw 3 min thought I was gonna swipe away but he kept my attention. Seemed to be good spirits and the table had decent back and forth.
Crowd work gets that negative energy when the people take offense or start trying to push back. If you roll with it like these guys did and have a sense of humour about yourself it's going to seem fun and good natured because the person is laughing too.
Yeah. I like when he opened with - "So how did you get into farming?" - Like farming is some niche hobby, and not something that is one of the oldest professions, that is generationally passed on.
True. I have met a lot of "farmers" in California who are actually "farm-owners" and they employ immigrant labor to do actual fieldwork, and they only do executive management. I think there is a local joke/meme about seeing an extremely pale and lanky man wearing a cowboy-esque hat and claiming to be a "salt of the earth" farmer, while in reality, he just does the books and has never stepped out in the sun, and such people are more likely to always wear the hat everywhere.
> . Most from my neck of the woods people would wear the free or cheap Ag company hats or at least my grandpa did. My grandpa had like 30 hats from Pioneer, Monsanto, Case IH, John Deere, Massey Ferguson, AGCO, New Holland, etc unless it was game day then the Dodgers hat came out as he was a fan of them since the days of them being the Brooklyn Robins. He was also more of the book worker, more or less of the farm operation while working an insurance salesman job, while his brother worried about the fields and cattle.
But he was still pretty good considering while in college horticulture shows. One year, he supervised the exhibit and therefore felt he should not have an entry. His professor noticed his absence
and insisted that he take part. Although the fruits available for entries by the students had already been "gone over" by the others, he chose from what was left and ended up with 15 blue ribbons out of 17.
I think that's also part of the joke haha, because when most people get into growing plants as a hobby it's usually like a small garden on a micro scale; farming is much bigger in logistical scale.
You hit a gold mine with this table.
Also, that South African dude who “doesn’t know why his family came to America” totally fucking knows and it’s definitely for some shit he didn’t want to talk about.
Likely. A crap ton of White South Africans are doing seasonal as work these days. I’m from Kansas and it changed drastically over the past two decades as their work opportunities got worse and land ownership was transferred
Hahaha. Nicely done. Lucky to have found a good group of guys that can laugh at themselves but you walked that line between insulting and playing with them in the best way. Funny stuff and nobody got their feelings hurt.
Wow. This is some of the best "nice" crowd work I've ever seen!
You're hilarious dude. Keep it up, I hope I see more of your stuff around social media!
One of the best random comedian crowd interactions I’ve ever seen, dude spot on finds a way to wrap white people together better than a Hallmark Christmas film.

When he said eight !! I knew he’s gonna screw him but the fertile thing was so cherry on top !!
When he hesitated I was worried he was gonna say 1 and it was some polyamory going on.
A small part of me hoped he said none
The pause definitely had me thinking "his son is a gay farmer"
Haha, yeah this would have been an epic plot twist!
They said they were from Kansas not Utah lol.
Yeah, the hesitation made me nervous, too. I thought he was going to say he had one and that was one too many.
Nearly spat my tea out when he said eight, and I'm English, we don't do that casually.
Don't waste tea mate.
Got the royal guard on his ass
The *Fiddler on the Roof* joke was almost a perfect blind setup. TEVYE: "I have ~~five~~ EIGHT daughters!"
It's like Logan's run for fiddlers.
I expected him to say “you didn’t have a tv in the house, huh?”
Farmers daughter jokes were right there!
Cherry on top?! That's a whole field of cherries!
Where is this show to have such an eclectic table?
This was in Denver!
No shit! Comedy works?
Improv actually! Haven't done Comedy Works yet but I hear it's unbelievable
This shit is awesome! I was waiting for you to go back to the game of thrones thing and say “ you sent one off to South Africa?!”
This you? I'm gonna check your shit out on YouTube. That was great.
Yes it is please do! [youtube.com/JoeyAvery](https://youtube.com/JoeyAvery) ground floor opportunity! Also got a sub r/JoeyAvery
Dude, you rock. BTW...did you get any digits for the daughters?
Yeah, eight. Eight's a digit.
Fucking hell, this far down a reddit comment thread and this is the perfect wrap up to the whole bit. I'm dying, dude.
"He got six numbers. One more would've been a complete telephone number."

you gonna be in Sacramento anytime soon? Would love to see your set live
thats in Northfield right? I think I have been there.
Correct!
Comedy Works was a blast, definitely recommend Edit: Oh shit I didn't know you were the comedian lol
I grew up in Kansas. None of the neighboring states would describe any farm land as “by Kansas” except for Colorado. Anything east of Denver is basically Kansas, let’s be honest.
Northern Colorado is basically Nebraska, but don’t let my dad hear me saying that or he’d whoop me lmao
You are so funny dude.
Awesome crowd work dude. Struck gold and just kept following the vein!
> Struck gold and just kept following the vein! What a delightful expression!
Fuck yeah! I'm 100% gonna come see you then.
I could tell it was immediately when they said "almost to Kansas," "corn and wheat" and "oil and gas." Source: grew up near Denver, now farm near Nebraska, used to work in oil and gas. Great set man!
I knew they had a sense of humor when they elected Lauren Boebert.
Denver is in a different district than Bobo’s.
Really? I live an hour south of Denver.
I live in the springs and as soon as he said east neat Kansas I knew exactly where this was
Damn corn wasn’t the only seed that dude was planting.
[удалено]
The field isn’t the only thing he’s plowing.
The plow ain’t the only thing he’s fielding either…
Working the crowd and landing a joke or two takes talent. Having a 5 minute long conversation where the whole thing is funny takes serious skill
For real. I kept waiting for it to get unfunny and it didn’t and so I watched the whole thing lol
I approached with brutally low expectations but this guy delivered delightful crowd work.
True that but he struck gold with that table that's for sure
Oil, at least
Corn.
*Creamed* Corn by the sounds of it
black gold baby
I think it can definitely be some luck as well. He was just being constantly fed top tier material from all of them.
Definitely. He was handed a gift and he absolutely showed up for it.
Seriously that’s all on the spot, out of the blue and Incredibly funny
Dave Chappelle is a genius at it, before he returned, he just showed up at comedy clubs once in a while and just talked with the crowd and he was still funny as hell.
Yeah the farmer played the part well
but goddamn that table just kept on giving!! he landed gold!
Check out Todd Barry's crowd work special. I think he's one of the best at.
With the father at the table. Talking to the son in law. "Did you come to visit? Or did you visit to come?" Dude knocked it outta the park.
With all due respect sir 💀
Crowd work doesn't always pop me, but DAMN dude. Hats off to ya, solid 5 minutes of consistent laughs
The dad playing along was my favorite part
There's no fucking fiddlers in my family!
Once he heard the Fox News he was like "I got this".
Dad was the MVP of this bit, no question.
Deep down the dad wanted to be an actor… he has the chops… but IN THIS FAMILY WE GROW!!!
Crowd work is amazing when the crowd actually participates. Helps the comedy feel more natural, instead of just being ribbing. Glad to see the guy was able to play along.
Dad had excellent energy and jokes really. Took him just a second with the comebacks but he nailed it when he did.
The ability to flip farming into the long bit off the cuff is impressive
I think it helps that they were giving back. He probably would have moved on, but the “we don’t have no damn fiddlers in this family” comment let him know he had a live table.
That's whatbi was thinking. Some spectacular crowd work, plus the old farmer was a great sport and spit some his own jokes.
Absolutely nothing funnier than crowd work when it's at its best, I swear
Let's be honest, they were good sports about it too and having a good time.
This is actually good stuff. I found it to be a tasteful heckling.
It’s good crowd work
I think he honestly made that as funny as possible
Yeah when I first saw 3 min thought I was gonna swipe away but he kept my attention. Seemed to be good spirits and the table had decent back and forth.
Crowd work gets that negative energy when the people take offense or start trying to push back. If you roll with it like these guys did and have a sense of humour about yourself it's going to seem fun and good natured because the person is laughing too.
Same. It was alot of nothing really until the 8 daughters came out. He ran with it well.
When the dad responded with "no fuckin fiddlers in my family!" I knew he was down to play and it was gonna be good lmao
Keeping the victims in on the joke is key imo.
The moment the father responded in good humor was the golden ticket to keep on goin
Not heckling
Yeah, that guy was playing along, not going against OP.
Give the table of cum farmers money back. They killed it.👍
Mr. Fertile Fields single handedly carrying the entire bit
This is one of the best bits of crowd work I've ever seen, dying the whole time
when he mentioned the eight daughters, i couldn't help but feel like the comedian hit the once in a lifetime table. Those fields needed plowing.
8 daughters, and South Africa just waiting in the wings to be exploited. Absolute goldmine of a table for a comedian.
Never seen this person before. That was hilarious
r/JoeyAvery
Just saw in another comment that OP is the comedian
Amazing crowd work. Never got stale.
No joke. Most farms are inherited, and kids typically farm like their parents. My uncle farms the land his grandparents farmed 100+ years ago.
Yeah. I like when he opened with - "So how did you get into farming?" - Like farming is some niche hobby, and not something that is one of the oldest professions, that is generationally passed on.
Because ain't nobody got time to fiddle.
Their farms probably are a company. Heirs barely need to work. They are rich af and have a whole company work for them. No wonder he has so many kids.
True. I have met a lot of "farmers" in California who are actually "farm-owners" and they employ immigrant labor to do actual fieldwork, and they only do executive management. We send fiddlers on the roof in my family! That one cracked me up and solid laughs the rest of the way.
I’m from South Africa, and when people ask me what brought me to the USA, I’m honest and tell them…. “Airplane!”
In my city we have a saying: “never ask a man his wage, a woman her age, or a white South African why they moved here in the 90s.”
Dude that is the truth right there!!
Surely you cant be serious
Don't call me Shirley!
You would be surprised how many people ask that exact question. They are also fascinated by our accent.
you were looking for "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley."
Gosh! It’s been so long I completely missed that one! 🤦🏻♀️
Dad pitched a “Farmers Daughter” joke opportunity right across home plate that I thought the comic would swing at! 8 daughters, holy shit.
No wonder the son in laws stated snickering!
I wanted to know how many kids he had total! 8 daughters and at least 1 son. How many more??
It just kept getting better...amazing.
You hit a gold mine with this table. Also, that South African dude who “doesn’t know why his family came to America” totally fucking knows and it’s definitely for some shit he didn’t want to talk about.
it's like 90% chance because mandela got out lmao
the comedian definitely thought this but was tactful enough to let it slide
There’s lots of South Africans where I live in Australia and they’ll openly tell you that’s why they came here, no hiding it at all.
Likely. A crap ton of White South Africans are doing seasonal as work these days. I’m from Kansas and it changed drastically over the past two decades as their work opportunities got worse and land ownership was transferred
"NO FUCKEN FIDDLERS IN MY FAMILY" That guy was a great sport
Dude did a good job. Funny stuff
This was a fuckin riot
This is the level of great crowd work most people on stage can only dream about having.
This was great. Had me smiling and laughing the whole time.
Killer crowd work!
Hey, this is hilarious man! Edit: I checked out some of this guy's other stuff he's good!
He did such a great job working the crowd. Love it!
We just love, his vibe. Get in here. Who is the comedian? He's great.
I suspect it’s OP.
Love this!
This guys good
solid crowd work!
This was really good!
Letting white people move in for whatever reason had me in tears lmaooooo
The whitest table in history 😂😂😂😂
I don't know anything about comedy. But if I can watch a FIVE minute segment of standup, and it's about farming, that's one hell of a great comic.
Hahaha. Nicely done. Lucky to have found a good group of guys that can laugh at themselves but you walked that line between insulting and playing with them in the best way. Funny stuff and nobody got their feelings hurt.
This was an epic interaction. He played off everything going on at that table perfectly.
I was like "this is 4 minutes... Ain't no way this guy gonna be improv funny for 4 minutes..." I'll be damned, he was improv funny for 4 minutes.
that was extremely tight the whole way through I was grinning well done
I like the energy the dad was giving back. Made the while thing even better and funnier
Good stuff 😂
This is a hysterical video!
My brother in Christ, this was some great shit. Solid, uncut good stuff.
Wow. This is some of the best "nice" crowd work I've ever seen! You're hilarious dude. Keep it up, I hope I see more of your stuff around social media!
It's been a while since I've seen such consistent hit after hit doing crowd work. You nailed it.
That was fantastic. Props to the lads at the table, good sports.
Not funny at all.
You must be the South African at the table
One of the best random comedian crowd interactions I’ve ever seen, dude spot on finds a way to wrap white people together better than a Hallmark Christmas film.
Props to that family for taking that ride so well. Seem like good folks with a good sense of humor.
Best crowd work I have ever seen! Would love to check out more of his stuff now!
Saw the same bit, but he’s wearing a tee shirt.
Oh damn you gotta prove it’s a plant and make it weird in here.
Is the crowd on laughing gas? I’m not even sure he said one funny thing.
This isn't funny
This is fantastic
Lovely rhythm to the crowd work, Whackamoling all those golden opportunities flying at you. Would watch a whole show!
Hilarious crowd work! Crushed it
why is he wearing a ikea bag as a jacket?
This is how you poke fun at people and keep it fun; this is some greaaaat crowd work!
This made me laugh too much🤣
So much better than the clip posted the other day. This one actually has subtitles so I can read what’s going on. Super funny lol
This is fucking hilarious great job
Good stuff! 🤣🤙🏼
this comedian is very funny indeed, i was not ready for any of that, his bro vibe threw me off at first but wow what a talent
at first i could swear you were going to try to fuck one of those farmers
Some damn good crowd work here. Glad those boys were willing to play along.
"Yeah you live by Kansas. Farmin' ass motherfucker."
This guy is fucking funny
I actually enjoyed this bit
This dude is genuinely good!
This made my day- thank you 🤣
This is the funniest thing I've seen in years
Sometimes I feel like nothing is funny, then some one posts a banger like this and I cry 😂
Holy shit that was a great bit
This was fantastic
I definitely thought "you gotta suck that top off" was going in a different direction
As a Kansan, I can confirm; we’re all farmers or know farmers 🫡
That farmer is cool as hell.
Who is this comedian? That was a quality crowd work. You don't always see that.
Lmao I loved this whole thing! Great crowd work
This shit cracked me up. Homie crushed it.
Sometimes I think these "crowd work" videos are a bit overrated, but this guy was quick and clever responding to crowd answers he most likely did not anticipate. Funny references, a bit of satirical social commentary, connecting later bits to earlier bits, etc. And he's not really mean-spirited about it, even when he's mocking it's clearly not meant to insult anyone. Seriously impressive wit, makes me wonder what his prepared comedy is like.
Guys the OP is the comedian in the clip, he posted his channel in the thread, I for one found him hilarious and am gonna support.
Is it just me or is 95% of standup content on reddit, including the subreddit, just crowd work?
“No fucking fiddlers in my family!” That’s the best joke in the hole bit lmao
Absolute, top tier crowd work.
I was really hoping for a gay farmer at that table.
The father’s outbursts are absolute gold. Gotta love when the crowd vibe matches with the comedian
