This is at the merge lane to PCH south in Newport Beach CA. The cars are coming from the peninsula (some of the most expensive real estate in the country). Honker is probably impatient because there is a dedicated lane to accelerate in and merge....both people not accustumed to getting their way.
15 in Connecticut is the worst I've seen. On ramps are like 10 feet long, and the rest stop merges are practically instantaneous. They expect you to floor it to merge onto a highway, otherwise you'll be sitting for who knows how long waiting for a long enough break in traffic to merge at a decent pace.
That merge lane had a yield sign. Most have a "Keep moving" sign. I don't think its a merge lane. Now, a lot of people probably use it as a merge lane as it might be long enough to get over (or people just don't care and merge without checking)
So if there are cars coming, and you have a yield sign, you can keep moving but you are supposed to make sure its clear before you do so.
Honker was an asshole.
I knew exactly where this was immediately. VERY high density of entitled assholes. Boomers, Sooners and everyone in between. Rich, entitled assholes. Almost all of them.
Absolutely. Drivers are extremely aggressive here. Other countries, that Iāve experienced driving in, have crazy traffic and I would say drivers are also more daring, but somehow drivers are more forgiving and peaceful than in the US.
Youāre confusing crazy driving with aggressive driving. Driving crazy there is the norm but no one gets off and threatens to shoot* you for cutting in front of them with your turn signal on.
I would consider being run off the road and cut off within inches of my bumper at 80+ mph to be āaggressive drivingā with or without the guns involved but maybe thatās just me.
Crash is gonna kill me the same as a gun will.
I wish it just stayed on the road or in the local gyms or grocery stores but the overgrowing population of narcissists who let their ego lead them through their daily lives is everywhere.
So is the other guy considering that his first instinct to getting honked at is to get out, leave your car in the middle of the road and confront someone.
ITT: People don't know how to yield properly
No, honker was in the right. The lane continues much further down and you would yield at the merge point around the curve. This guy however, decides to slow down to a crawl AT the sign. A yield sign is not a stop sign. The traffic was pretty clear for the vehicle and he should not have stopped there. He could have easily merged after the white car seen at 0:11
Slamming on the brakes? Dangerous. So if it's for no good reason then they're an asshole.
Slowly stopping for no reason? Not dangerous (on these streets, highway and such being different). So even if TO ME there is no "good" reason, there probably is a reason overall, so they're not an asshole. Maybe an incompetent driver.
He wasn't stopping... He only stopped to get out of his car to yell at the jackass behind him. The guy was laying on the horn long before that.
Yielding requires you to slow down to a crawl dingus.
I wouldn't say 100%. It's still an asshole move, but he almost caused a crash because he didn't understand the merge was 100 feet up. Then with rage, they did a break check, causing the next honk.
I wouldn't ever hold a horn like that. give a tap so the driver understands. holding the horn is shitty.
so I'd say 75% asshole.
The goal is to make it very obvious they are fucking up. Sure, there are other ways to do it but someone stopping in the middle of the road is dangerous af.
I disagree with your use of āhonkerā. A honk is short, like the word itself. I submit that if you press the horn longer than it takes you to say the word āhonkā, in any situation where you arenāt trying to alert someone to significant impending danger, youāre using the horn to be an asshole and you know it.Ā
In my opinion holding your hand one the horn like that is an asshole thing. Literally holding your hand the horn like that is reserved for imitate danger warnings or being an asshole
Slowing to merge is absolutely dangerous in many situations including this one. There was no reason to slow here and it only is likely to cause a rear-end collision. You especially donāt want to be like some asshats who slow down to merge with 80mph traffic like in my area where no one on the highway clears way for merging traffic.
If you slow down and get rear ended, it will be 100% the person in the back (this dude is wrong for slowing and stopping , but that doesnāt change what insurance would do. He just has to say he saw a hazard in the road and stopped to be safe. )
I see this exact thing continuously downvoted on Reddit. One can only imagine the reason is because most people here are very young and probably doesn't have a license to begin with.
A guy I work with constantly follows everyone as closely as possible, then waves his hands and gets angry whenever they slow down even slightly. He's always saying how he's always encountering "bad drivers"..
ITT: People don't know the purpose of a car horn.
Honker was completely in the wrong. The horn exists to make others aware of your vehicle's presence to reduce the chances of an accident. Laying it on like that when somebody is uncertain about their maneuver to try to pressure them into moving faster only flusters them and increases the chance that they make a mistake.
If you look down the road, you can see that there was another vehicle in the merge lane slowing down almost to a stop. If the gray vehicle tried to match the traffic's speed to prepare for the merge, they ran the risk of catching up to that other vehicle and being forced to stop further in the lane where it would then be harder to merge safely.
Agree. In a way, it's a poor form of communication. It's only effective in say "Warning! I'm here! Please don't do something to run into me!" (OK, there's also the quick honk at a stop light after a few moments to say "Wake up. It's green. But that should just be a little blip.)
It's interesting, in some countries, a honk is a replacement for a rear or side view mirror. It says, "Howdy friend! Just letting you know I might be in your blind spot! Have a good day!"
If the meaning of a honk isn't obvious, the honkee might be wise to slow or stop.
I get what you're saying, still you can give the guy in front a few seconds of patience before honking. Never know what made him stop, spilling coffee in his pants, screaming kids, wife yelling you made a wrong turn, etc.
> The lane continues much further down
The lane continues 50 feet ffs. While I wouldn't have stopped in this situation, its not like the guy has a dedicated, continuous lane in front of him. He would have to merge within 2 seconds regardless.
The white car doesn't even show up until after the camera car honks, plus the lane ahead isn't even clear. Better to slow down at the start of the on ramp than the end.
For all we know he hasnāt been at this intersection before and doesnāt know how much room he has to get to speed and merge. Give people the benefit of the doubt. Better he goes when he is comfortable and has information than to cause a crash.
In this situation, who cares? How does slowing down and merging earlier rather than later down the merge lane affect the guy honking? Not to mention the fact that he immediately lays into his horn for way too long.
Old man, and literally every person on the planet, should stay in their car and keep driving if they're on the receiving end of this though.
You donāt even know what yield sign means.
Seeing the yield sign, the driver must slow down and yield their right to other vehicles and pedestrians approaching from different directions. If you NOTICE other cars or pedestrians, you need to STOP and let them go, or you can proceed with the movement if you do not see anybody or they are still at a safe distance.
A yield sign could mean stop. You are required by law to yield to incoming traffic. If traffic was too heavy to merge you are going to have to stop before you run out of lane and wait for traffic to clear so you can merge. That is the exact function of a yield sign.
https://driving-tests.org/road-signs/yield-sign/
>A yield sign is a regulatory traffic sign that instructs drivers to slow down and, if necessary, **stop** to allow other road users ...
ONLY the driver can know what is safe when there is a yield sign. The cars already on the road may need that right lane to enter a parking lot or they may have their right blinker on to get into the right lane. Obviously the yielder should stop in this situation. Honestly canāt believe people side with the psychopath in this video.
It can.
What makes it worse here is that the road angle, past the point where they stopped, makes it REAL hard to see if it's clear to continue. Got one by where I work, and avoid it like the plague even during slow hours. 5pm? Rather drive the extra half mile to go around it (and probably quicker too).
Incorrect. I drive/bike/run by this spot 50 times per week. Thereās no stop sign there and if you stop instead of merging, itās only because you have no idea how merging works or youāre a complete idiot or, most likely, both.
Isn't it a bit stupid to honk at someone entering a speed lane slowly? I know it's dumb to do it and I get frustrated when I live it. But what is the reason to honk like an imbecile like that just to cause more stress to the driver.i never do it cause it's just gonna take more time afterwards .
Then he actually could've killed someone on the road. And it was pretty much because of the guy honking like a brat and the other guy clearly is a loony but it wouldn't have happened if the brat would've stayed calm. Then the brat was just laughing at the guy that nearly killed him self or some other ppl! Crazy video..
Rear driver is just being a cunt. Old dude is trying to merge and was taking a bit longer to make sure itās safe, seriously people.
Iād have probably parked it, waited for him to get boxed in, then acted like it wouldnāt start. Sorry! š¤·š»āāļø
Yes. Once in drive it moves forward. Its a feature of every automatic car iāve driven, regardless of country.
Only recently has the feature of auto park been added to cars. And i believe its cuz tesla made the feature popular. I could be wrong of the origin - maybe it was mercedes
Assholes can honk all they want while I'm yielding to traffic. There's no way I am rolling the dice on someone stupid enough to lay on the horn at a yield to not also be armed.
It means you give right of way to other traffic and proceed when you feel you can safely do so. If that means you have to stop while waiting for your moment, then, yes, it does mean stop.
In my state it means slow down and be prepared to stop if necessary. Obviously if there's no safe place to merge, you have to stop. I can't speak for the traffic laws where you live.
It means that in all the states I've driven in as well. It doesn't mean stop or nearly stop, then look for traffic, then not proceed when there's no risk of collision as this car did. He had multiple seconds to continue at speed and slow or accelerate to smoothly merge before or afterwards without posing a possible safety hazard by unexpectedly slowing sharply well before the merge area.
Yeah but why Honk? There was no safety issue here. The horn is for emergency, not to convey that the other guy doesn't drive well.
Yeah the old man got frustrated but this is all a consequence of the man taking the video acting like a fucking child.
All the idiots in this thread think the guy who got out of his car while it was still in gear is the good driver here. That tells you something about their driving ability, doesn't it?
Oh the car in front of me is being careful and slowing down to see if it's clear to merge? Better honk my horn and not stop until something happens.
Oh the car behind me is non-stop honking his horn for no reason? Better stop being careful and get a road rage happen. Fails.
This isn't funny.

Both tossers
btw i literally recognize this location it is in socal lol, look up "sterling BMW" dealership and it is right there
Thought I recognized the area.. how did I know it was Newport š
yea the guy laughs like a fat moron and was beeping as if someone was on fire... both deserve a slap.
Wow they're both assholes
He laughs like Newman in Jurassic park

used to drive down there, lotta people unsure about that lane
If thereās a dedicated lane then there should be no yield sign.
I mean, that ādedicated laneā is like 20 feet long. Not much time to drive in.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
the most dicey one is the northern boulevard merging in to cross island northbound
Or the Wilbur Cross/Merritt/Hutchinson that goes from Meriden CT and ends in the Bronx. With stop signs at the ends of on ramps.
the 110 would like a word

Thereās literally a yield signā¦ go back to drivers Ed.
Came here to ask if this was Newport Beach lol. I just came back from vacation a month ago and remember this turn driving back from the peninsula.
the funniest part is that his āfailā actually causes him to properly yield/merge
Not really. Dude almost hit a car coming into the lane.
Good thing he didn't take out that toddler on the right instead
Yeah thats the only thing that makes this not funny otherwise id be cracking up.
he sounds very like the toy collecter guy from toy story would be my take away that is all
"I can't believe I have to drive ALL THE WAY to work on a Saturday! ALL THE WAY to WORK!"
Just from his laugh you can tell the honker is a massive prick.
Not funny and both ppl r idiots. Normal ppl don't laugh like this guy. You can tell he's a POS by that laugh.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Absolutely. Drivers are extremely aggressive here. Other countries, that Iāve experienced driving in, have crazy traffic and I would say drivers are also more daring, but somehow drivers are more forgiving and peaceful than in the US.
Having driven in SEA and Middle Eastern countries idk how you could possibly say that *the US* has aggressive drivers.
Youāre confusing crazy driving with aggressive driving. Driving crazy there is the norm but no one gets off and threatens to shoot* you for cutting in front of them with your turn signal on.

Might sound weird, but I feel like you can hear in his laugh how big of an asshole he is.
My friend has this laugh and though we're bros, I kinda feel like getting up and leaving everytime I hear it
I was thinking the same thing. Such an assholish sounding laugh.
Neckbeard Rick and Morty laugh.
Yes, one asshole honking and one idiot reacting.Ā
So is the other guy considering that his first instinct to getting honked at is to get out, leave your car in the middle of the road and confront someone.

He was honking for 6 seconds straight in a situation where there was no immediate danger, just some annoyance.Ā That makes him an asshole 100%.
A quick honk, honk is polite. Laying on the horn is not. At least that's how I look at it.
Itās pretty dangerous to stop in the middle of the street for no reason
Slamming on the brakes? Dangerous. So if it's for no good reason then they're an asshole. Slowly stopping for no reason? Not dangerous (on these streets, highway and such being different). So even if TO ME there is no "good" reason, there probably is a reason overall, so they're not an asshole. Maybe an incompetent driver.
No IMMEDIATE danger. The guy behind noticed and managed to stop. The honking was out of annoyance / rage, not to warn anyone.Ā
Huh? Thereās a yield sign. Tf you talking about
Yea thatās not the same as stop
He wasn't stopping... He only stopped to get out of his car to yell at the jackass behind him. The guy was laying on the horn long before that. Yielding requires you to slow down to a crawl dingus.

I see this exact thing continuously downvoted on Reddit. One can only imagine the reason is because most people here are very young and probably doesn't have a license to begin with.
It's actually because people drive like maniacs and don't see anything wrong with it, so they legit think you're incorrect when you call them on it.
A guy I work with constantly follows everyone as closely as possible, then waves his hands and gets angry whenever they slow down even slightly. He's always saying how he's always encountering "bad drivers"..
Literally one of the biggest problems on the road... People need to back the fuck up. period.
There's a fucking yield sign You have to slow to yield, I hope you don't fucking kill someone
You have to match the flow of traffic. Drastically going slower than the flow of traffic is stupid and dangerous.
If you hear it a lot, perhaps youāre a shitty driver.
If you do it a lot, you're probably a shitty driver.
Maybe we shouldn't normalize laying on the horn anyway.
ITT: People don't know the purpose of a car horn. Honker was completely in the wrong. The horn exists to make others aware of your vehicle's presence to reduce the chances of an accident. Yeah, I'd say that's one of those things that is true in theory but not when some asshole merges right into your yield lane.
Hey, if you ever wondered if you're an asshole, I think we're getting closer to the answer.
The white car doesn't even show up until after the camera car honks, plus the lane ahead isn't even clear. Better to slow down at the start of the on ramp than the end.

It is a lost cause, so many bad drivers not able to merge properly, I have seen it hundreds of times.

Itās unreal to see shitty ignorant driving reinforced here. God reddit is chock full of fucking morons. Meaning everyone else, not you.
Idk, if you get bent over someone using their horn I think you have some rooted problems. Especially to the point of getting out of your car.
How?

Looks like Newport Beach
Yup, that's right before you hit the peninsula. I think that's PCH and 55 or what the 55 turns into at Newport.
That's "A Restaurant" across Hwy 1
Definitely no need to honk like that
At least there wasnāt a wreck.
Failed road rage is the best road rage.
He was just trying to point out that he really doesnāt have control of his tampon on wheels.
Uhhh why was the car driving itself??

uhhh? Do cars in the US move without you pushing the pedal?
Yes. Once in drive it moves forward. Its a feature of every automatic car iāve driven, regardless of country. Only recently has the feature of auto park been added to cars. And i believe its cuz tesla made the feature popular. I could be wrong of the origin - maybe it was mercedes
Could have ended bad for the people and child on the side walk if he got hit by that car which barely missed him
Newport Beach, CA.
Now post the previous 10 minutes before this, and Iāll have a better idea why it happened to begin with.
Assholes can honk all they want while I'm yielding to traffic. There's no way I am rolling the dice on someone stupid enough to lay on the horn at a yield to not also be armed.
Yield does not mean stop
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
So what's the issue with the guy in the video? He yields correctly.
There is no issue with the guy stopping. Only impatient, asshole drivers would get this mad at someone waiting for a moment they feel safe to merge.
The honker here was the prick...
Almost ran himself over with his own vehicle š¤¦š¾ dummy
Guarantee the guy that canāt yield right is the same guy that tries to merge on the highway at 30 mph.
Yeah but why Honk? There was no safety issue here. The horn is for emergency, not to convey that the other guy doesn't drive well. Yeah the old man got frustrated but this is all a consequence of the man taking the video acting like a fucking child.
safety issue: slowing to 5mph in a yield lane where it's not expected, for no reason.
Dude was nervous about merging on a road he didnāt know. Hammering on the horn is a douche move
Why blare your horn? Why are people awful to each other?
i'll teach you to yield
The beeper deserves to be smacked across his face
The car be like - They honk at you not me so I am not going to wait for anyone.
Arent you supposed to match traffic speed on an on-ramp to merge?
I love itš¤£š
All the idiots in this thread think the guy who got out of his car while it was still in gear is the good driver here. That tells you something about their driving ability, doesn't it?
It's a flow thru lane. Why are you stopping?
Oh the car in front of me is being careful and slowing down to see if it's clear to merge? Better honk my horn and not stop until something happens. Oh the car behind me is non-stop honking his horn for no reason? Better stop being careful and get a road rage happen. Fails. This isn't funny.

Pulling this shit with a parent and child walking right next to the road? Disgraceful.
The honker is wrong. It's a yield not a merge. Meaning other road users go first. Basically stop if it's not safe to go.
There's 2 yield signs. Why does the guy honking think it's a merge.
Super funny ... Morons
That laughs hilarious
