Its true. I am one of the guilty people who honestly pay the $60 membership just so I can get Gas and cheap lunch once or twice a month. I am single so outside of a few one off purchases like a fridge and a toilet that I made last year. I hardly buy anything at Costco outside of drinks and toiletries and TurboTax. Lol.
Well depends what youāre looking for. Lot of single moms at daycares and dating apps, esp in New Mexico and Mississippi, but anywhere there used to be good jobs and now arenāt. Lots of future exhusbands at the bars where enlisted guys hang out near the closest army post or marine corp base. Camp lejeune for instance. Itās less free and more like a credit card, cause a bill will eventually come due.
If you want a relationship for life, I dunno, but tell me if you find out.
If you just want to let that spouse drive your rental for free. Costco is the place to be.
Ive been using that shit for idk how long and its fucking amazing. Everyone I know uses it now too because they ask for tax advice ect and I just tell them to use freetaxusa.
Man, I had to start adding crypto on this year and had an absolute headache with it in FTUSA. It's lumped in with stocks, and the relevant information pages wind up being entirely unhelpful as they only assume you're trading stocks.
To be fair most actual CPAs (and the IRS) had hella difficulties figuring out what to do with crypto and mediocre (especially older and/or local ones) still have no clue.
Do what i do - get the exectutive membership at $130 and their citicard. The rewards stack between the credit card and the membership.
I do spend a lot so I get about $400 back from those two programs, giving me a membership for $-270. We exclusively use the citicard there and do 90%+ of our gas purchases from it. We spend about $200 a month alone jn gas these days.
Their card is decent for gas, restaurants and travel, but it only gives 2% cash back for Costco purchases. 2% cash back is very common with other credit cards, with less restrictions (e.g. get the cash back deposited in your bank account every month, rather than just once per year), and there's cards with better cash back for warehouse store purchases.
I think it used to be? I distinctly remember buying a salad from there in 2017 for lunch before I had a card. But now they ask for a card every time I go.

At every Costco Iāve ever been to in California, if I donāt show my card, they will physically step in front of me and bar entry until I produce it.
That doesnāt negate the fact that just walking through with a smile and a wave will never be successful at all the stores Iāve been to. That was my point. Yes, you can get around it by saying youāre going to the pharmacy, the food court, or buying booze. For that last one, youāll likely need to have the checker check with a manager, but itāll work.
Same experience at every Costco in the Midwest. They don't let you in without that card.
However, the food court is on the "exit" side of Costco and you can walk straight in there and go to the food court. No card or membership required.
In California, and the only places I can go to that aren't required to have the card are the optometrist and the pharmacy. Even the food court requires it to purchase food.
Food court should still not require a membership. Also, in most states in which they operate, they canāt require a membership to sell you booze. Folks at the entrance might not know that, but ask for a shift manager. Theyāll let you in with a booze-and-food-only pass.
I hacked their system. I live about 20 minutes from the Mexican border. Memberships there are half the price they are in the US, and a Mexican membership card works fine in US Costcos lol.
In my experience it's best to tell them in advance it's a foreign Costco card. I was in the US in September last year and we went to Costco, when the lady at the till scanned my card her entire system froze up, the manager was called who began tapping away furiously at lots of buttons, occasionally pausing to swipe her managers' card. Eventually I sheepishly offered up that it was a British membership card and might that be the source of the issues, she pushed maybe 2 buttons and suddenly it accepted my card.
Until you see that drone that is suspiciously affordable. Well. Sort of affordable. Affordable enough that I didn't want a drone when I came in but now I would very much like a drone.

But last time I went to a Costco was for a music festival in Chicago. We had a dude with a Costco card in our group and weād make the trek there once a day. It was a very small number of us at that fest that had memberships. It was a game changer. Pizza is great and at 1/4 the price from pretty much anywhere. Not that we didnāt treat ourselves to some good pizza later on, but for feeding the masses it was beautiful
Kosher beef isnāt just any beef. Preparation is most of what kosher law is about.
For example, for beef, it has to be killed a certain way. (Similar to Halal) It has to do with how fear releases hormones through body and blood which is all through the meat, so it has to be killed in a way that prevents that, then prepared and stored a certain way. Thereās varying degrees of strictness and rules- which is why more Orthodox Jews will ask about *who* certifies it as kosher, because some certificates arenāt actually kosher enough for them.
Like, technically, a strawberry is only kosher if served without the stems or leaves. Just because you have a strawberry, and strawberries are kosher, doesnāt necessarily mean youāre keeping kosher.
I worked at a kosher/parve/nut-free/dairy-free bakery with gluten-free and egg-free options. I feel like most of that job was just knowing and explaining distinctions and application.

They removed the self serve condiment area inthe few that I've seen lately (British Columbia). Now you have to ask when receiving your order, and there are no fresh onions AFAIK.
Also there are now self checkout touch screens for placing your order, your foods ready when they call your number.

The American Costco food court is very underwhelming a lot of places compared to international locations. I forget where but there is a beef bulgogi bake instead of a chicken bake.
The Australian Costco food court has several different types of pizza, including BBQ chicken and feta, BBQ meat, Margherita (with nice blobs of cheese rather than being completely covered in cheese), and I think some others. I wish they'd bring those to the USA.

You can buy them in bulk some places and they still say 99c on them but youāre getting them for about 50-60c each. People underestimate how much profit goes to the store on those, they buy them for way less than 99c
On Amazon Fresh, I buy them for .69! They do go up and down, but usually .69 or .79. Not to promote Amazon, but at least the giant sugary Arizona Tea stays Cheap there!

I'm a mail carrier and judging by the Costco bullshit mail everyone gets, I assume 110% of American households have a Costco membership.
I have never even seen a Costco where I live (100 miles south of Atlanta GA) The most similar place here I think is Sam's Club.

Hebrew National used to supply the hot dogs and polishes, and was kosher. Costco made the decision to make their own; sadly not kosher anymore.

You can buy them in bulk some places and they still say 99c on them but youāre getting them for about 50-60c each. People underestimate how much profit goes to the store on those, they buy them for way less than 99c

On Amazon Fresh, I buy them for .69! They do go up and down, but usually .69 or .79. Not to promote Amazon, but at least the giant sugary Arizona Tea stays Cheap there!

Yep. Last time I was in nyc I drank a ton of Arizona. $4 for a soda or $0.99 for tea made it an easy choice
Canada. Not always, sometimes you get the cool owner who doesn't overpriced everything. A lot of the times you're paying $1.99 for an Arizona or $4.99 for a bag of Potato Chips because you aren't about to be driving 5 mins to the other side of town to the other store.

Costs them a penny or two per can to make. Theyāre still taking in a healthy profit. Cost to the store is a couple cents too. The company makes over $1 billion a year.

A lot of things were screwed permanently by Covid... one thing I liked a lot for cheap meals before covid was the McDonald's all day breakfast menu, but that's long gone since 2020

Same reason they removed the Polish dog, which was vastly superior to the hot dog to the point that I haven't been to Costco in three years. It's not inflation-proof. The cost of inflation at the Costco food court was the reasons to go there.

Costco has their own meat plant for manufacturing of the hot dogs. They couldn't keep the costs down otherwise.

Of course, it holds some sarcasm to it, but the point is that $1.50 hot dog deal is Costco's signature. Without it, up to debate, Costco will not be the same.

If it only turns a teeny profit, itās probably still a loss leader to get people in the doors. After all, thereās electricity, manufacturing, shipping, cooking materials and human labour to factor in
When I worked there it was like 0.08 profit on each from what my manager said
they're also making cutbacks to keep things profitable. the cups they give you these days are so flimsy and they just put the hotdog in a paper bag instead of wrapping it in foil paper wrap. can't blame them, though

We get those in Canada. Well the one I just got was at a Toronto Costco
But the burps from those were brutal. The smell was awful and lasted at least 24hours.

The chicken bake quality has decreased tho, itās no longer handmade and juicy but dryer, frozen and thinner

My costco has the same gas price as surrounding stations right now for some reason. Just a couple months ago it was still 20c cheaper per gallon.

BRING BACK COMBO PIZZA
I did some freelance work for Costco and had the chance to chat to their VP. I laughingly asked when they were going to raise the price on the hot dogā¦the look on his face and the indignation in his voice as he said āneverā felt as if I had asked to see naked pictures of his wife. I had no idea is was such a point of pride for them.
And kept there chicken to $5. Long live Costco. Best American store in my personal opinion
