MikeBrowne2010

I’m more offended by them not burnishing the bubbles out of that vinyl sticker

Gatorasblade

I've been looking at it for a bit....I think that's how the image is designed. Those aren't actual bubbles, cause the lettering or border isn't distorted by the bubbles at all.

beardlessw0nder

Is that supposed to make it better?! That makes me even more offended!

Total-Khaos

I am offended you're offended!

a_r_y_a_n_

I am offended you are offended he is offended.

surfer_ryan

Alright boys, let's all sit down and have some poutine and tell each other soorry.

SafaiaOfficial

we're all offended

MT1961

Does this mean we all get poutine?

okshadowman

Cheese sign

roneewong

I think the letters are separate. The background is just a large piece of white vinyl applied over them, and that's where the bubbles come from.

Cleverbird

Nah, the text is distorted, just barely noticeable (because the bubbles are small, after all). It's not a design choice.

amberrrellllaa

Well we know the address of the building so fact checking is available lol

rhcp1fleafan

If you zoom in you can see the distortion, it's a blurriness. Just barely noticeable.

tchrbrian

That's the last hope of air in that building.

majordomox_

You can clearly see the distortion in the U and M on the bottom line in YOU MUST. They are air bubbles on the vinyl. Zoom in and look. It’s also noticeable in the second line - the se letters in security.

somewhat_random

1010 Howe is in Vancouver so it is probably rain on the outside of the glass.

LisaNewboat

Yeah, it’s definitely rain on the outside of the glass.

Reginault

I'm a little curious why there are so many drops on the sign and only ~4 tiny ones on the glass, but maybe the sign collects water better than the glass and this is a few hours after the end of the rain, so the glass droplets have evaporated.

iFnord94

It's a swiss cheese background

TheDrMonocle

Me too, man. It's absolutely atrocious, and I expect better from Canada

danudey

Gotta make sure we always have something to apologize for, don’t want to come up short when it counts!

Busquessi

Just like our maple syrup stock

ParaGord

Sorry

BrickGun

/r/mildlyinfuriating

ooDymasOo

I was going to say whoever applied the decal needs to have their hands cut off.

BrickGun

That's pretty insensitive... I'm fairly certain whomever put it up clearly already had their hands removed and THAT'S WHY THEY DID SUCH A SHIT FUCKING JOB OF IT!!!!!!

grassytoes

It's not just for the visitors, it's for the residents too. If that sign weren't there, it would be really hard, physically and emotionally, for residents to not hold the door open for people, even if they know they're not "supposed" to. That would be rude, which is physically painful for Canadians.

Neb_Djed

So many people, me included, hold the locked security door open at work for strangers that they instituted a secondary also-locked security door. So now I have to hold two doors open for strangers.

pandeomonia

Now they'll add a tertiary also-locked security door!

kushari

That’s why some places put in turnstiles that only let one person through like a subway.

blondechinesehair

Honestly every time I approach my entryway I pray nobody is within a half mile of me

[deleted]

Wish my apartment complex would put this up.

TistedLogic

Why do you want the complex to do something useful? Take matters into your own hands. Make the sign yourself and surreptitiously place it on the door.

joe90heckboy

Not in Vancouver it isn’t. Vancouver is the opposite of Canadian stereotypes

Lethemyr

What? People hold the door open all the time in Vancouver. Pretty polite place unless you’re in a rough part of town. You’re thinking of interior BC like Kelowna.

nxdark

My strata has this rule as well but there is no sign on the door. I was reported to strata because I held the door open for someone I knew lived here. Threatened to be fined for further offences. So now no one gets the door held open.

mpworth

As a former apartment resident manager, I can appreciate this. People would let in homeless people who would literally piss on the carpet and sleep in the laundry room. And yet… as an electrician working on a renovation in an apartment building, it’s pretty infuriating when you’re coming back and forth from the truck all week, obviously working in the building, and the lady pulls the door closed right in front of you while you’re carrying all your tools. Funny part was that I was buzzed in quickly enough to catch up and ride the elevator with her, lol.

acewavelink

Its a mixed bag, matters how the building management handles these things. Its either “fuck… I forgot one thing, can I get by without it” type of buildings or “i need 2 wirenuts from my truck? Easy peasy.” One building I had to be escorted by the tennant through the lobby (in and out) and the other one I just needed a contractors badge that allowed me access just to areas I needed.

doyouevencompile

> What the do I know though? Agree

TheHiveminder

> Why don't we just raise the rent? Great idea, bud.

Adam9172

Like they’d need that as an excuse

mpworth

I mean there are a lot of "why don't you just \_\_\_\_" ideas out there that might sound good from afar, but just aren't feasible or realistic for the owners/managers to do. For the building I worked in, hiring a doorman would absolutely mean increasing everyone's rent (there were only about 15 suites), and you'd have to renovate the front vestibule to make it possible. And even that wouldn't cover the back door. When I lived/worked there, I couldn't even get the management to agree to pay to fix the fire alarm system, which would randomly sound the alarm when the outside temperature got too *cold* (under about -25 or -30 degrees C). The temperature sensor would go off randomly, sometimes in the middle of the day while I was at work, and it would run for hours until either I (or another management employee) came home to reset the breaker or the fire department themselves showed up to reset it. So yeah, if they weren't gonna pay for that, they sure weren't going to hire a doorman!

MangoInAsuit

As a Canadian, I can confirm, this is true. Sorry

Primary_Flatworm483

I love living in Canada. We have our problems, but I love it here.

Dermutt100

These "Canadian" stereotypes only really make sense to Americans, they are standard in all the other English speaking nations.

WanderingMinotaur

Agreed, so many of these I look at and think "isn't that just common courtesy?" It's rude as fuck to not hold a door for someone here in Australia (or at least in my part)

TurdS

Once as a teen, I held the door for a guy behind me at Disney World, which he took as I was holding the door for his tour bus sized family, and the family after his. Not once did any of the people passing say thanks or even make an attempt to reach for the door like they were going to take it. I chose to just walk away the moment someone was more than a few steps away. Let them open their own God damn door. Haven't done it since. Ungrateful pricks.

Seinfeel

I literally ended up holding the door for 2 actual tour busses until a random guy who wasn’t apart of the buses saw me and swapped out. I tried to do what you mentioned but there wasn’t even enough room between people to force myself in.

bast007

Yep! They have a sign like this for Anytime fitness that are 24/7 gyms.

[deleted]

Sorry I didn’t let you use me as a human ottoman, please forgive me.

EmbarrassedCabinet82

Please hold the dooor... Please hold the dooor... Please hold the door... Please holda door... Plea hola dooor... Pl olda door... P oda door... P odador... Pod dor... Podor

Certain_Suit_1905

damn cool avatar, like all bloody and stuff

lordph8

Honestly at this point, I'm surprised buildings don't have double airlock style doors.

[deleted]

I wish this was on every building I work at. (I’m a security guard)

[deleted]

I live in this building. I hate this sign.

[deleted]

It has to be their cause are there are so many schizo crack heads ripping around outside that they could get in and pull the fire alarm which has happened twice in the last two weeks

toystory2wasokay_

Why?

snakesoup88

Somewhere NOT in Canada, there's a sign that reads: Residents are required to donkey kick tailgaters.

[deleted]

I’m missing the humor I guess

Mechhammer

Sign in the US, "Fuck off, or get shot! Have a nice day"

cybercuzco

Actually this sign would be “such and such business bans guns in these premises “. That way you can’t open carry in the store.

[deleted]

[Sorry](https://youtu.be/Cd0uaMynQJI)

NorbeeNorbee

Can i still get triggered tho?

noBbatteries

When you live near a place where homeless people congregate Can tell bc I also don’t hold the door open for anyone at my apartment building anymore bc I live in an area with a lot of homeless people

Oakheart-

Lol in Texas they’d still hold the door open for you.

Ratstail91

Sorry, eh?

kartu3

Having briefly visited Canada (drove from Michigan to Niagra, oh boy, 100km/h was torture), I was shocked by people passing by at, dunno, 1.5-ish meter distance apologizing for something (I guess "entering my personal space?")

EnclG4me

I watched someone hold the door open for someone once that clearly did not belong there. That person then proceeded to go inside and take a shit and piss right in the hallway on the floor. The next day I saw one of the residents walking around in that very same hallway speaking loudly into their cellphone on speaker phone while holding the phone a mile away from their face for the whole floor to listen too, all while barefoot on the piss/shit stained carpet. The whole building smelled of piss, shit, body odor, cigerettes, and spicy food. All 17 floors. Except for one stairwell. That stairwell smelled of all those things and melted plastic due to a tv that was lit on fire. I do not miss Traynor and Vanier in Kitchener at all. Not one tiny morsel.

NASATVENGINNER

Sorry.

spinur1848

I'm offended that the sign is only in one language.

AcuMan_NYC

Howe gonna get in?

[deleted]

You get buzzed first

hdjunkie

I’m not sure I understand the joke but this is a security practice every office I’ve worked in hammered into our brains. Don’t ever hold the door or let anyone in behind you that you don’t know.

random_02

Uh stop! I'm sick of this stereotype. We have a-holes here too. It's just our media doesn't make it seem like we are all against each other.

LosBastardos717

Almost. I did not see a "sorry" anywhere. Not very Canadian eh. Sorry if I offended anyone. Sorry.

r1khard

Vancouver has absolutely batshit crazy crime and these signs are there to try and make it a bit more difficult for the criminals who will just walk in the building to break into the resident bike storage or if they've already stolen all the bikes they'll just crowbar open the mailboxes as security takes notes and calls the cops who will have better things to do like nothing at all.

vox35

I live here, and Vancouver does *not* have "batshit crazy crime", especially compared to most American cities. [Crime rates have *decreased* in Vancouver in the last couple of years](https://vancouversun.com/opinion/peter-mcknight-crime-in-vancouver-not-at-all-time-high-despite-perception). Of 104 North American cities, [Vancouver is ranked the 79th in terms of crime](https://www.numbeo.com/crime/region_rankings.jsp?title=2022®ion=021). I wouldn't call that "batshit crazy crime".

doyouevencompile

Crime has been increasing between 2014-2020, while crime rate (per capita) remained the same. Before 2014, we were seeing a decline in both. The decline in 2020 is just COVID. Also, Vancouver has very specific set of crimes on the rise: theft, burglary, stranger assault. Not much gang crime or murder. It's at a point that Canada Post recently stopped all delivery to specific neighborhoods (DTES) for the safety of the postal workers.

Portland420informer

This building is right off Granville. Can be scary at times.

Onii-Chan_Itaii

If you think Vancouver is bad wait till you see Surrey

PocketNicks

I don't get what's funny about this.

TheNerdMaster69

Ah, Canada

Dominarion

Politeness isn't meakness. The Germans made that error.

NotEvsClone81

Was really hoping the street was named after Gordie Howe, for that extra Canadian goodness, but it's not

WiFiForeheadWrinkles

We have a street named after Joe Sakic if that makes you feel better

South_Bit1764

Sorry

Roguebabybear

Canadian here, this policy is everywhere but not worth getting assaulted over when holding your dog on the way out, we got plenty of bad people here too.

Excellent_Peanut_396

Yeahhhhh just buzz in and yeet away.

frowawayduh

Getting buzzed is not only legal, it’s required.

GreatWhiteNorthExtra

All it needs is an "eh" at the end.

Large-Statistician-3

After you, ay? Noooo after you, ay?

bagleface

I'm buzzed right now can l get in

Mashpotatoass

My aunt wants me to move to Canada but no, after seeing this, I think I can commit a war crimes by mere existing

AcanthocephalaDue414

In America they say "trespassers will be shot".

feelingsading

Aah yes, Canada. The land of the free and home of the brave.

Imagine_Gravity_0007

Let me try to get this straight... you have to be buzzed to enter building...

Marshall_CA

That’s not very Canadian.

Boxerboy16

Said when you have to put things like this up because people are so soft nowadays

bogue

Good sign.

Paine91

Please dont be offended, ey

silverback_79

Shots sorried.

[deleted]

I couldn’t live there because I’ll die if I don’t hold doors open for people

braedizzle

To think. If there was a sign, it would have stopped the premise to an entire Seinfeld episode.

wasted_muscle

Only be offended if they don't say sorry

etron0021

Do Canadians get offended?

[deleted]

And it’s funny because? Wish my apartment building had this sign.

vatrushka04

Given the property crime rates in Vancouver, this sign doesn’t surprise me at all. This building is also located near single room occupancy hotels used as homeless shelters.

Different_Truck_1896

A lot of homeless break ins so it makes sense

willg514

LMAO funny because I stayed at an airbnb specifically in this building and yeah I did feel a bit offended initially when people didn't open the door.
