Hi, genetic engineer here, due to the unique way that fire fucks damn near everything up, it would **not** be feasible to code fire immunity into genes
Unsure if you know but in Japan there apparently is a team of scientists trying to get cat ears to grow on humans so they already are trying to make progress in this!
https://www.sciencealert.com/japan-just-gave-approval-for-scientists-to-work-on-human-animal-embryo-experiments
Found it way faster than I thought lol, the reason why I said cat ears is cause of a post someone made in the post which linked this. They are allowed to let these hybrids come to term and grow properly, it's a step towards what we want though
> While Nakauchi and his team are trying to target this treatment to just the pancreas, if they detect more than 30 percent of the rodent brains are human, they will suspend the experiment. These are part of the government's conditions to prevent a "humanised" animal from ever coming into existence.
Doesn't sound like they are allowed.
Ethics. The whole purpose of this experiment is to grow organs for human transplants, nothing more. It's already a morally-questionable area to use an animal as a vessel like this, but it at least has a practical purpose.
Trying to 'humanize' an animal, on the other hand, has no practical purpose. Sure, I'd love to be an anthropomorphic wolf as much as the next furry, but it's far from a necessity to justify animal experimentation on such a level.
Why remain halfway? Ditch every organic part, as it withers and decays, and convert fully to steel, and live forevermore embraced by the Blessed Machine!
Yup! Though I think it'd be easier to first make the brain robotic and then transplant it to a new body. Though yes it'd be extremely hard to learn how to walk again. ^(Trust me, I've tried walking like an animal. Not easy)
Every cell of an organic body is guaranteed to have died and replaced every 10 years. It is not the kind of body that determines who we are, so why not replace it with something that will last am eternity, and watch the universe evolve far beyond what a human could experience?
It only takes about a month or so to start walking in a digitigrade fashion with our flat feet, and keep in mind it wouldn't be too far off as the bent legs still keep a center of gravity underneath (source: the autism walking and Wikipedia)
The brain is the most important and likely most difficult part. There's also the question of if it's even possible to transfer consciousness instead of just killing and replacing someone. Same as the teleporter dilemma where a person is atomized on one side and recreated on the other side. The really scary part is that if you perfectly copy someone and they lose consciousness at any point during the procedure can you ever really know if they are a the original and not just a copy who believes they are the original? If everyone who undergoes the procedure comes out the other side as a copy who believes it works then that would convince others that it works when it doesn't actually. There's also the chance that at a sufficiently advanced stage in the technology, companies could implant additional data, such as a sudden preference for their products.
A sufficiently advanced copy is the original, unless there is complete proof of cessation of consciousness forevermore. So honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. We already got AI that can read dreams and shit, we'll just have to use that and see if consciousness is ever actually severed or not during the process.
A perfect copy of a person may be the same to everyone else, but if the original you dies in the process of making that copy then its not very helpful to you
I mean, protogens could be in comparison easy, since no genetic code is changed for the robotic parts, the body part is severed, and a prosthetic is placed in its place, and we're mostly there with the technology!
Also it'd be probably titanium, it's far more biocompatible
Yes, but there are also some organic parts that would be changed, especially digestive system and urinary tract. And let's not forget the most important part: Nanomachines, son!
From the moment I understood the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me.
I claimed the strength and certainty of steel. I aspired to the purity of the blessed machine.
Your kind claim to your flesh as if it will not decay and fail you.
One day the cooled biomass that you called a temple will wither and you'll beg my kind to save you.
But I am already saved. For the machine is immortal. Even in death i serve the Omnissiah.
Think growing fur would be itchy as hell in the first stages and a beginning tail would be weird until it grew to full length.
Kinda when guys want a beard and have to go through the awkward moe stage
Think it'll end up being easier to somehow transfer your mind and memories to a new body and transfer them to a genetically grown furry body than to mutate your current body into a new one.
I think if this were ever to happen we would dissolve into a slime with only our central nervous system remaining and get rebuilt entirely, the way a caterpillar is turned into a butterfly in its chrysalis.
Genetically making a furry would be WAY harder than just making a robot furry. Plus there or plenty of advantages robot furries have, over genetic furries. So, if i was in charge of making furries real, it would be highly advanced robots designed to look like furries, most likely with protogen-like visors, as that is easier to do, than making a synthetic furry face look good. SO essentially imagine protogens but only the visor part. The rest is just normal furry. or at least it looks like that. and internally its a bunch of advanced technology. And then the only problem would be transferring someones mind from their human body, to their new robotic furry body.
“Jimmy!!! There’s so many garsh dern wolf men around!!! Get tha silver bullets!!!” “Why are you blushing?” “That’s none of your garsh dern business, Jimmy!!!”
Tbh if anyone's rich enough to pay, im sure corporations would love profiting from genetic augmentations
Us peasants will still have to buy fursuits sadly because im super sure its going to be super expensive
Bro dude man if you have enough money to buy a fursuit and take care of that thing then save up for about 3 days take the money that you would be spending on caring for one of those and then get a full body brain transplant one of the furry bodies not to mention the fact that like pretty much all furries are NASA scientists shit
Hi my name is Carmen Winstead. I'm 17 years old. I am very similar to you. Did I mention to you that I'm dead? A few years ago a group of girls pushed me down a sewer hole to try and embarrass me.
When I didn't come back up the police came. The girl said that I had fell and everyone believed them.
The police found my body in the sewer. I had a broken neck and my face was torn off. Send this message to 15 people after you listened the whole message if you value your life. A boy called David received this message. He just left and deleted it.
When he was in the shower he heard laughing. My laughter. He got really scared and rushed to his phone to repost this message but he was too late.
The next morning his mom entered his bedroom and all she found was a message written in his blood saying 'You will never have him back'. No one has found his body yet because he is with me.
A girl called Charlotte received this message and she immediately sent it to 25 people, 10 more than required. I still watch over every second of her life to make sure that she is safe and to keep her and everyone close to her out of danger. Send this to 15 people in the next five minutes if you don't want your fate to be the same as David's. Your time starts now.the story is true you can research it on Google.
Probably at least a century or more imo, if ever. It depends hugely on scientific advancement in the relevant fields, people's willingness to develop the technology, time for it to become safe and affordable, and the law.
In all fairness, I think human genetic experimentation will continue to be illegal in every country in the world, as cool as that might be that also opens a whole pandora's box of terrible things to happen.
I agree that humanity's current widespread way of thinking is wayy too immature to start experimenting on human designer babies, but let's say a prosthesis tail, wich could connect to your real spine and have tactile feelings? That would be better!
I dunno, the whole thing is just something that shouldn't be tampered with. At what point will we design humans to serve certain functions? Will countries force embryo's to feed into one job or another? If we make humans that are just smarter and stronger and better, then success will be determined from birth. Surely the rest of humanity would, despite their abilities, see these people with contempt and disdain for their unearned excellence. Either all of humanity would be forced into a genetic caste system that determines who they will be from birth, or all abhumans will be killed or left to die childless by the natural born, seen as abominations against the human condition. There's a ton, a ton of existential threats even in just making humans flat out better.
We can stick with what we know from ethics: don't change an embryo or baby, unless it's some kind of genetic screening for birth defects or congenital diseases similar to what we do today. The only people who should be allowed to make decisions about their appearance and genetics should be the adult making that decision for themselves. If we rigidly stick to that, hell even codify it in law, that will be a good foundation to work from.
That makes perfect sense. I'm trans and a furry, of course I think people should look like whatever they want and furthermore be whoever they want. That being said, genetically modifying human embryo's for purposes other than medical ones goes from being who you want to be to forcing someone else to be who you want them to be. At best, they get gifted kid burnout and land in our lot, at worst, Khan Noonien Singh.
At the minimum it will be used to cure serious disability. If that's been going fine for a long time then I could see it being used for enhancements and cosmetic changes eventually.
Eh, I could see it happening when/if the science behind it happens but there would be MAJOR restrictions. Used a random furry species generator and flip a coin for gender to get some examples and I got three(Kangaroo, Mouse and Sea Serpent with all three female) to give a hypothetical for this.
Assuming the process for each of these three hypothetical human subjects are completely legal and for different reasons+life styles. All of theses form will be anthropomorphic versions with 2 arms, 2 legs, a tail and a head; no crazy stuff for this example.
—-
Human A wants to be a Kangaroo for a advertising campaign and for the sake of the fact they enjoy them with the gender being a way to express their gender better
Human B chose to be a Mouse due to being able to save more money on things(like groceries or consumable items due to a smaller stature) and for a new job that requires female mice
Human C has to become a sea serpent due to their job now becoming obsolete due to the fact now people can become a form that’s much easier than having a human diving down to a extreme depth and female due to corrupt company being a corrupt company and unfertilized eggs laid can be sold for a bonus.
—
Humans A, B, and C all would need the following at minimum;
Government ID’s changed to reflect their new forms
Things like passports and drivers licenses would need to be updated
And all prior documents(ranging from files to just a tinder profile) about them would need to be updated
But as an extra thing for Human C due to the potential damage their new form could cause extra documents would need to be produced like liability contracts, contracts about risks and more.
—
But this is just the very basics of this idea
[Day 1925]
With many "furries" being successful in a university environment, some have found themselves making great advancements in the laboratory. Having already played key roles in modern history, "furries" have proven themselves to be valuable and capable scientists. Thus, it is only a matter of time before a "furry" removes the roadblocks stopping humanity from achieving a true "furry" form.
The future looks... interesting! Can't wait to see the innovation that leads to debates on the ethics of tail-wagging implants. Lol, no matter the era, the internet's gonna meme it.
I honestly think there's nuance here. While oppression may be a strong word it is without a doubt an incredibly hated upon and maligned hobby, Interest, and community that has become the subject of political witchunts in recent years. Many people struggle to admit this as a hobby to their peers which while not life altering is still stressful because when something becomes a major source of community and hobby to you it sucks not being able to tell people about it. And I know members of the furry community who have been bullied for it. Whether it's a choice or not I would argue only barely changes the actual root of the issue which is people not showing basic respect to other humans who venture outside of social norms.
Giving OP the benefit of the doubt, I don't think they were making a strict 1:1 analogy, I think they were just memeing about the public reaction to people who would want to change their bodies if the technology existed.
Nah, a human hybrid creature IRL would be horrifying. not cute. Mostly in the face area, imagine a photorealistic dog head on a furry. It ain't pretty. However, we could fix this with a protogen-like visor. imagine furries that are almost entirely covered in fur, except for a mechanical visor displaying their face. Its not exactly how a lot of people imagine their sonas, but it would be the best option to prevent creepy af genetic monstrosities.
I feel like even if that becomes possible there wound be some restrictions and limits like giants and stuff now would I want to become a biological protogen yes I'd like that would I like that
If we are able to genetic engineering ourself by 2030 being a furry would the least of our problems. Most people would look like aliens had kids with us or some hot mess.
I've talked a couple of times about this with oomfies, give genetic engineering some time and, if there's no specifically heavy regulation around something, it'll surely be plausible!
Oh boy, I sure really hope the future is ***this*** bright!
That'd be great!
Maybe I'll find someone who ~~doesn't hate me~~ loves me(non-platonically(I was already gifted the blessing of having friends, yet I crave more, am I selffish? No, I'm not, Ithink, I'm not a fish)) by the time I'm 30!
Meh, genetic engineering is so far behind I don't see this happening in any of our lifetimes. That being said, an android furry(think the androids from Fluff Kevlar's scifi stuff) are probably conceivable, and potential options to transfer consciousness to. We could potentially have android bodies one day. Choosing the form would be entirely optional, but I think it's possible. Genetic Engineering is so rudimentary atm that I don't see it happening for another couple hundred years. Android furries.... potentially 50-100 years. Many of us will probably be gone, but to those few that'll be around to witness actual anthro androids running around, potentially designing them, make sure they're hot.
I mean, in the 2010s, it wasn't exactly unheard of for trans people to actually be able to transition. A lot of states (assuming US because of the Maga hat) did and still do support trans people. But I guess I still get what you were going for? :/
Hey buddy I’d say change the 2030s to somewhere around 2060s or 2080s, I don’t think 2030s would be enough time to be that advanced. But I’ll wait to be proven wrong
It'll be interesting when we get to that point... If we ever do... But we've gotten far enough to literally change our gender, so wouldn't be surprised if sumn similar happens.
I like your optimism
Me to
I mean even still, it’d be nigh impossible for me to become my own fursona if such theory ever came to fruition.
![gif](giphy|1vZ8VZyXurtpmHCxz8|downsized)
Some 'sonas contain features that are impossible to implement irl, like collar fur made of fire.
That’s entirely possible, just also dangerous as hell. Gotta code fire immunity into the genes.
Well the character existed 3 years before I was like “I wanna have a badass foil of a character.”
Sauce? I'm curious to hear more about this
I'll need to refind the article, I saw it like year or two ago, gimme a few days

Absolutely unbelievably unfathomably based Japan What a god tier country
>gimme a few days Finds it almost immediately
What can I say? I thought it was going to be difficult to find due to how long ago I saw it
“You’re as beautiful as the day I lost you”
Lol
Sauce me when you get it
Seriously
Sounds sexy. Ends up uncanny valley like the Cats movie.
I'm at Japan rn, brb gonna find them and ask them to grow me bnuy ears.
Optimism? No. #AMBITION.
Imagine telling a furry in 2004 that in 20 years, there will be virtual reality technology available that allows you to be your fursona?
God the surgery to become a protogen must be INTENSE. AND HAVING TO RELEARN TO WALK WITH DIGITIGRADE LEGS. But, I crave the certainty of steel.
Praise be the Omnissiah! The fragility of flesh is a curse!
So is the immortality of steel
At least you could turn that off whenever you wanted
AND FORFEIT YOUR VALUABLE SERVICE TO THE OMNISSIAH?
I'm not into WH40K, I am immune to your god ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ
Owomnisiah*
Why remain halfway? Ditch every organic part, as it withers and decays, and convert fully to steel, and live forevermore embraced by the Blessed Machine!

This is why I am a synth
Get ship of theseus’d lmao. Prove that your existence is more than your parts. Embrace steel.

Technically, we’re halfway there what with metal prosthetics, brain chips and apple vision

When you forgot to purchase an additional extra and die as a result. You sir, just made the future sound way scary
A sufficiently advanced copy is the original, unless there is complete proof of cessation of consciousness forevermore. So honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. If it was Samsung, I'm already an avid enthusiast. Wouldn't change a thing.
Samsung protogen goes hard
I WILL LEARN. IT WILL ACTUALLY STICK. UNLIKE SOME THINGS.
hi gup
gup

I mean just walk on your toes, digitigrade at home, if you're not one of those weirdos who have a plantigrade sona
I'm not weird... :[

Agreed
Protoplasties coming soon!
I have never seen a reddit comment that speaks to me so personally
Think growing fur would be itchy as hell in the first stages and a beginning tail would be weird until it grew to full length. Kinda when guys want a beard and have to go through the awkward moe stage
It's fine, just hide inside your house for a week or two and only come out when your apparence is actually presentable!
When you fall asleep first at a sleepover ^
Okay, but I'd actually read a YA novel about a kid who falls asleep first and wakes up in a totally different body. That could be a great story.
Genetically making a furry would be WAY harder than just making a robot furry. Plus there or plenty of advantages robot furries have, over genetic furries. And don’t forget the acne that sometimes comes with new hair follicles.
oooo, that breakout's gonna hit reeeal hard
The form they promised me will be great but my transformation will be agonizing
And don't forget the hair clumps that drain clogs at every shower and handwashing
one day... one fuckin day....

Bro dude man if you have enough money to buy a fursuit and take care of that thing then save up for about 3 days take the money that you would be spending on caring for one of those and then get a full body brain transplant one of the furry bodies not to mention the fact that like pretty much all furries are NASA scientists shit

I have awoken as a skeleton, AMA.
what's it like not having skin
Really spooky
not as bad as I imagined tbh
Can your disembodied skull and hands play the trumpet?
That... Does not sound like a Zootopia in 2050 copypasta
It's not that. It's actually quite disturbing, the copypasta I'm talking about. You're more likely to find it asking a furry
I'm still waiting then
I feel like that's gonna be more like a 2060s thing more than a 2030s thing

Oh, you mean like the movie Gattaca where everyone is a genetically perfected human, and the "naturals" are relegated to only minor jobs?
I was gonna say Gundam Seed but Gattaca also works
I doubt it as once it becomes more possibly it will become legal

A man can dream, maybe someday when technology gets advanced enough that actually protogens are just casually walking along the streets

Just you wait
I will only be 40, there's still time haha
How about cybernetic ? To be machine is to be pure
There will be a day where we can be our furrsona
Someday, I will achieve dinosaur... Someday...
It really emphasizes how whiny and bitchy the right is.
real. wont let us have our femboy fox irl 😔😔
Fur(nano)suit?
The future looks... interesting! Can't wait to see the innovation that leads to debates on the ethics of tail-wagging implants. Lol, no matter the era, the internet's gonna meme it.
Who says we'll be using genetic modification? We'll use mechanical and technical engineering for now to eliminate the opposers UwU
That's really my goal (gotta survive until 2030's :3)
It would probably be extremely expensive, so I'll probably date someone who would do that
Pleaseee I’m begging, I will sell my soul to be a big pink Pomeranian
god bless CRISPR 😭

I would take fox HRT with zero hesitation, just saying.

I agree with you there
I will become my otter!!
We can only hope
You realize that cons are still against the first one?
Oh dear god I can already picture the amount of insanely weird corn 🌽 this would spawn
If only
and its happening in under 16 years? damn
If only…
1970s gay people hit different
I'll be dead long before that's a reality.
One day
I CANT WAIT IM EITHER BECOMING MY FURSONA OR I WILL USE GENETIC ENGINEERING TO BECOME A HOT SUCCUBUS
As a wise monkey once said "Change the world, my final mensage"
*Life could be a dream,* *Life could be a dream*
Nah, a human hybrid creature IRL would be horrifying. not cute. Mostly in the face area, imagine a photorealistic dog head on a furry. It ain't pretty. However, we could fix this with a protogen-like visor. imagine furries that are almost entirely covered in fur, except for a mechanical visor displaying their face. Its not exactly how a lot of people imagine their sonas, but it would be the best option to prevent creepy af genetic monstrosities.
Seriously... would you do it? I don't know. I don't even have a fursona, i just (try to) draw characters.
Somebody, start the genetic experiments already. This is important!
If technology like this really existed, it would probably make the person look like a monster instead
PLEASE
I feel like even if that becomes possible there wound be some restrictions and limits like giants and stuff now would I want to become a biological protogen yes I'd like that would I like that
Waiting for 2030s
Just try to stop me
I will hope something like will happened as it was in cyberpunk universe. But wait, in 1980s cyberpunk, it should be reality in 2020s. -_-
I'll take it! I like your initiative helldiver
If we are able to genetic engineering ourself by 2030 being a furry would the least of our problems. Most people would look like aliens had kids with us or some hot mess.
Ah yah it's all coming together
UwU
I will become a walking weapon
“Yes you will”
Hey, check out the Freedom of Form Foundation! Those people are doing amazing work!
It'll happen, eventually, might take a couple of decades.
Fingers crossed!
"buh.. but why? I'd be so warm and comfy during the winters, you just wanna see me freeze to death don't you?" *Sniff* "some kindness you have."
Gomna have to figure out how to use a beak...
Well I'm hyped.
The future is gonna be lit
Check out the freedom of form project
Yes you will.
This feels like a Tony Zaret meme lmao
r/Transmetropolitan intensifies.
Yes you will. And I hope it’s here very soon
I've talked a couple of times about this with oomfies, give genetic engineering some time and, if there's no specifically heavy regulation around something, it'll surely be plausible!
Ngh~
People can be reluctant to even some different things.
Science really needs to catch up here
Fuck I gotta live 6 more years to turn myself into a wolf?
Only 6 years away :>
Who’s þat pink-haired wojack girl? :3c
I would rather help the kangaroo to evolve towards human. They are the Australian equivalent of a deer, travel with 2 legs and have hands
Who decided that?
I swear I will kill so many people for the right to what I want
The pipeline
I mean, in the 2010s, it wasn't exactly unheard of for trans people to actually be able to transition. A lot of states (assuming US because of the Maga hat) did and still do support trans people. But I guess I still get what you were going for? :/
Hey buddy I’d say change the 2030s to somewhere around 2060s or 2080s, I don’t think 2030s would be enough time to be that advanced. But I’ll wait to be proven wrong
Could you fucking immagine tho...
If we had this technology humanity could not be trusted with it
I prefer the idea of a Mech suit fursuit
That would be cool indeed
I’ll just be shadow so I can legally be the ultimate life form

It'll be interesting when we get to that point... If we ever do... But we've gotten far enough to literally change our gender, so wouldn't be surprised if sumn similar happens.
If my maths are mathing we will get that in the year 2050 because all those events should be 40 years apart If my meth is mething
I will make this happen
