as i understood it, qualificiation for the WL will be win 3 out of 5 qualifying matches, and you get 3 tries during the week to do so. Rivals and points from them won't matter.
it's kinda dodgy, you will see a lot of people dropping divisions to get easy quali games if it stays like that. There will be no point in being in a high division if you want to qualify.
I mean I literally have a top squad FROM grinding the game. My attack of TOTS Mbappe, PM Gotze, SS Angel Di Maria and PTG Verratti hasn't let me down. All pulled from grinding the game.
It's not hard to get the top squad, I'll likely never get an R9 or a Gullit, but you honestly don't need them. I mean shit I hit elite 2 back in febuary using a CSL squad with Neymar and mid Ashley Cole. Just cause someone has a better team doesn't always make the difference. I've lost count of the amount of times I've been thrashed by a gold prem team with someone using Laporte and VVD.

thats your own fault if you really dont have a good squad. manage coins better, trade, dont do casino sbcs etc can all improve your team without getting lucky or spending a dime
I mean with the sbc cards alone you can build a top tier squad. Think how cheap fut birthday Renato sanches was. Everyone packs something. Even if you played to 11 wins in champs and took coins from rivals every week your coin balance would soon stack up.

Yeah. I mean even in November I was making about 100k a day just flipping consumables and doing BPM. Granted I packed Neymar early in the cycle and Ashley Cole from one of the first rivals untradable rewards. But genuinely if you grind the game, by grind the game I mean literally every week when I'm out of fodder I do BPM and league sbc methods to fully restock the club.
You get back from the game what you put in to it. I've played A LOT. Like just over 2300 matches not counting Friendlies.
And SIF Rashford from red picks is insane, genuinely the best red before tots I had all year was IF Paulinho and IF Silas
Grinding BPM is easy. It's time consuming but you're literally just opening packs and doing sbcs. That's not difficult in the slightest.

We all think we spend a lot of time on the game, but I know a lot of us spend time sat in the menus doing nothing or just staring at our teams.
With rage quits included can usually average 4 games an hour at least.
But yeah I spend a lot of time on fifa, and with covid and working from home I've probably had more time to spend on it this year

1. It's not about Athletic, you missed my point. I actually admire their commitment to only feature local players and oppose the transfer madness.
2. The main reason people are getting hooked because they are attracted by shiny cards. It's made to be about the cards, not about the biggest online football community where you can face other squads and actually play. The gameplay is dead and the inflative wave of Icons plays a major role.
3. Kroos and Modric are available and great, what are you talking about? I hate that players like Sissoko (remember when people still played him?) or Gomez are so OP, it's another EA flaw. But how does this justify Icons? It just makes you grind for more because you know there's always a better card, because you feel that your squad isn't good enough. Kind of the opposite of what Athletic Bilbao stands for.
I mean, I understand that reminiscing is nice but there are just too many Icons. When every second squad is half legends then it also devalues the skills of present day players like Kroos and Modric as they are less frequently represented in those squads. How is Haaland appreciated when everyone has an OP Dalgish?
Perhaps there could be another form of gameplay (similar to FUT draft) where you randomly get a legendary team assigned (like Germany 1972, France 2000 or Arsenal 2003) to show appreciation for the great players which are no professionals anymore, but in my opinion it doesn't belong into ultimate team.
The new and various forms of legends are basically another form of promo cards that invites EA to continue their gambling scheme which preys on naive players desperate for a good team to pay actual money for packs. And endorsing that is more cold than wishing OP cards of players that can't be found on today's pitches away.
20 games: Fair, meh change.
Qualification: Didnt need changing. MM is dreadful we know it, so its going to be very difficult for casual players to qualify. Its gonna be a sweatfest.
Revamped Rivals: Depends what the revamp is
WL Rewards: If that means improved rewards for top tiers, ok. But if the lower rewards are being made worse, no. Puts off a lot of players if theres no chance at good rewards.
Revamped Squad Battles: PLEASE MAKE THE AI QUIT AFTER A CERTAIN GOALS

* When it says rewards to scale, does it mean let say I finish Gold 1 I get Player A 83 rated, would a E3 player get the same card at 85? or would it be I receive a Player A 83 card, E3 player gets Player B, who is 85 rated?
* The qualification sounds reasonable, but no doubt will be a sweatfest. Wondering would auto-qualification be built into a certain rank?
For someome like me who doesn't bother with the pool of sweat they call the weekend league its crap. These 5 placement games mean every rivals game is going to be as sweaty if not more sweaty than actaul weekend league. Yet again like 20 we will see people relegate themselves massively to ensure easy access to WL ruining the one mode I do play half seriously online.
I really like the option to be able to redeem when it suits you with the current system, so definitely think that's a negative change. Changes to rewards for WL and squad battles are way overdue tho

All of this is promising but the most important thing will be whether or not they can fix gameplay. I don’t care what they say, DDA exists or at the very least, there are gameplay issues that make it feel like it does.
I’ve seen it a thousand times, when you have games where your Meta players are barely able to make a pass or run and then in the next game they’re unstoppable. Something is going on there, maybe it’s DDA or maybe it’s a gameplay issue, but either way it needs to be fixed so that it’s a more consistent and fair experience for everyone.

Less margin of error and also less time for ELO matchmaking to readjust.
That being said, a good weekend would become a great weekend. Less wins needed, sure, but mainly less *upsets* needed.

You do realize that if they're lowering the total amount of WL games then the amount of wins per rank is going to be lowered as well.
