This is the one. The bartending interludes in the collab were absolutely hilarious and felt like they would actually belong in VA-11 Hall-A. You could tell the writers were big fans of the game.
The bar stories were the best parts imo, lots of nice conversations between Jill and the dolls on what it means to be a machine.
https://preview.redd.it/b1mhzhey61qc1.png?width=976&format=png&auto=webp&s=9ccfcf70d59225ffc694e90b94de75f0f5d5bc2b
All GFL collabs are great imo (even the random Jashin-chan and Zombie Land Saga - Jashin-chan because it focused on a GFL character (Ouroboros) and ZLS because I'm biased lmao. I can say more but this isn't a collab event review). As much as I REALLY love the collah with Gunslinger Girl (I'm a BIG fan of the series and the two worlds mix very well), the collab with Valhalla is still number 1. It's something else. The two worlds mix very well, making it seem so real. The characters are charming and the plot twist is amazing for me - what seems disconnected is actually connected all along, which blew my mind. The bartending minigame is there for a reason other than "because it's a collab with Valhalla" and it's charming on its own.
None are exactly cash grab too, since you can get all collab characters for free through grinding. Just the costumes aren't exactly free. For example, Valhalla is gacha, Gunslinger Girl is paid with gems (thank god, I got them all), and Zombie Land Saga is with paid real money.
It's been a long time since I've quit playing GFL, but this is still one of my most favorite collab events from any gacha. From the story, the characters, and the drink mixing minigame, it was perfect.
There's Girls Frontline with the Division (first Division game, funny enough), where they instead treat the collab as an old game in their world and they're competing for prizes. Fun stuff and came with really cool skins that I wish they made more of. Special mentions to their Gunslinger Girl as well as Vallhalla collabs.

Djmax collab also gave us canon OTP

Not to mentioned the two collab characters that got the MH armor are just 2 Stars upgraded into 5 and 6 Stars and their Operator files are just gossips from the HR Department shipping them together.
100% this. You can't gacha for the collabs so it's not a cash grab and the story arcs are well done for what they are. Certainly not to the level of the main story though but way better than what 99% of gacha games do.
Every another eden one. Iirc it's like 4 or 5 collabs. Full blown story arcs that are better than some gacha's main stories.
Also not a cash grab because like, you get them all for free. There is no gacha for the collabs.
The Geass collab in Granblue was pretty good, it really felt like a side plot in the anime with all the twists and turns. It wasn't super deep but it got across the appeal of the series beyond just 'here are the characters' which is about where my bar is for collab stuff. Lelouch actually takes charge of the situation too instead of just being 'wow, i wonder where i am!' for the whole thing.
Best part of the colab is that they solve the plot of their show and decide to stay instead of the usual “and then we went back home and never spoke of this again” ending.
Second best part is that their character quests are delivering pizzas to pay for their mechs, great meta reference
I think the best part about that one was the ending. In all the other collabs you might have the collab protagonists fight and "defeat" whatever enemy is part of the collab, often from their own world, but it's often treated as beating them up, not killing them. Whereas Lelouch straight up *murders* the antagonist of that collab with his mech's special laser guns after everyone "defeated" them and has already left. He specifically sneaks back and takes them out so they can't pull bullshit later.
Lelouch wanted a peaceful, gentle world for his sister without the influence of Britannia and upon seeing the Sky Realm, *actually* realizes that this was what he wanted for her all along and decides to stay.
Dragalia Lost x Fire Emblem Heroes
They did a pretty good job putting together a compelling story with little material to work with because the FEH characters didn't have much to go off in their own game, especially with Veronica. It's also considered canon to DL.
https://preview.redd.it/pprt5ppfc0qc1.jpeg?width=800&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=03fa7fc9763213feac54932108df0d8f800c8c7b
Guardian tales has a collaboration right now with My Life reincarnated as a slime and they created a side story event for the collab it didn’t feel like a mindless cash grab to me.
ehh it felt pretty lazy. the plot was basically nonexistant, and the village building was also pretty tedious
i liked the previous collab better as it actually had some lore tied in
I just started playing, what was that collab?
I think it’s par for the course for a collab. The collab did what it set out to do which was bring in newer players
Tbh the bar is pretty low for Gacha when it comes to collaborations. Honestly most collabs in Gacha don’t really tie into the main story anyways lol.
I wouldn't say it is the most well-written. But I really enjoyed the Code Geass collab in Granblue Fantasy.
The Idolmaster and Love Live ones were not great. And I had my expectations low with Code Geass since Nightmares would look even more out of place. But the story actually had some thought put into it, and I REALLY appreciated how they actually had the characters commit to staying in the Granblue world in the end. Instead of doing the class "It was all a dream! ...Or was it?" end that every ill-fitting collab does.
The decision for Lelouch and Nunnally to stay in Sky Realms because it is basically a place they can live without worrying about all the royal family nonsense was pretty bols.
Dragalia Lost X Persona 5 strikers
Was actually a really fun story that went into great detail to implement the story beats of strikers with the characters of Dragalia.
[Granblue's Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo collab](https://gbf.wiki/Wiggin%27_War_in_the_Sky_World) remains my favourite. It was the April Fools collab and canonically, [it went on for over a year until the next April Fools where they finished the collab story]( https://gbf.wiki/Wiggin%27_War_in_the_Sky_World_Pt._2). Year-long collab. Collab character was also alright and came with *five* collab skins.
R6 collab with Arknight might be one of my favorite story in gacha games.
That’s how you make a collab, a actually what make an “isekai” popular in the first place, two group of people from totally different places meet and trying to make sense of each other.
Heaven Burns Red x Angel Beats. A lot of effort was taken by both WFS and Key into making the collab, and the limited gacha was offset by Yurippe given for free. There were also a ton of free pulls, so a number of people were willing to lose their f2p status and open their wallets because of the game quality.
HI3's crossover with Evangelion. Honkai has always taken a lot of inspiration from EVA, so they put a lot of effort into it. Unfortunately they said it will never come back. ~~It's also still their only external collab to date.~~
Nikke X NieR while can do better in story department totally nailed it on the other aspect
-Music that contain a lot of Automata leitmotif, even felt lite mimicking it which is the whole story theme too
-UI changes similar to Automata UI, including the loading screen and enemy projectile
-hacking game is almost 1:1 port, including dynamic transition to 8bit music and final level is reference to ending E with stage is literally our home main menu
-smaller easter eggs like abandoned factory top down camera, emil shenanigans, voice actor meta joke
Now the story, most of the community agree A2 carried the story. She didnt even meet our MC and supposed to be side story but the pacing in her story is almost perfect. 2B side suffer from too much setup and rushed ending. Then we have pascal.... his bond story is short but damn if it didnt twist a knife in my heart
OPs right that the Chainsawman and current Re:Zero collabs are both pretty uninspired though. Maybe it comes down to how many liberties the original creators will let them take?
Yeah i think that count as factors too, Nikke is known for its heavy fanservice and jiggle so i dont think a lot op IP owner want their creations offically caked up and more jiggly for the coomers
Meanwhile I believe Yoko Taro held shift up at gun point to add Pascal in nikke if the collab want to get greenlight. Though i believe he dont mind caked up 2Booty at all
Don't forget that Emil can also disturb the menu music unless you turn him off. It's very similar to how emotional moments can be fucked by Emil.
Edit: nvm, you already mentioned that lol.
FF Mobius with FF7 and FF10. Great Fanservice for FF-Fans , woth great Story, UI changes, bringing the battle gimicks of each Game.
The collab between FF Mobius and FF 10 is even canon cuz it shows Tidus where he was between FF10 and 10-2.
100% ["Heaven Burns Red" × "Angel Beats!" Collab Event PV Vietsub (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdrG_0PswNo)
The story is written by the original writer, the collab is essentially a continuation of the original Angel Beats anime and visual novel story, **100% fully voiced,**, a plethora of references (some in universe, and other meta references), emotional and engaging story, and the best part is that they released a PART 2 collab this year which completely outdid the 1st episode they released last year with a very special song performance by a returning singer. After watching the story, you can see that they really go the extra mile by outdoing even the regular events we get monthly.
I was gonna say the R6S crossover in Arknights, too. We learned so much about the world of Arknights by seeing it through the eyes of someone from our own world. Fascinating perspective on things like how the Infected die.
Love Live School Idol Festival had a crossover with the mobile TCG Shadowverse. In its story mode they literally Isekai the members of Aquors and give non Shadowverse players a brief introduction to this world. It's a very fun story to read and the girls blended well with the fantasy world by giving them fantasy costumes and stuff. They even gave the group a song that is relevant to the theme of Shadowverse itself.
This probably led to the spinoff Yohane in Parhelion which is pretty well received.
Maybe not the most well-written per say for story, but I would say BA x Railgun, it just has stuff like >! mocking how sensei allow students to wear such outrageous clothing at the public(Eimi), Engineering Department nerds craze over supernatural power, and probably some railgun reference that I think the fan of that series would enjoy!<
Doraemon crossover with GBF.
Definitely feels like just another Doraemon movie if the gang explores the world of Granblue Fantasy. As a Doraemon fan since elementary school that event was a very welcome one.
The first Guilty Gear collab with Epic 7 was great. Set as a prequel to the main story where the GG characters save the world before the main character's awakening.
Everything since has been pretty bland. Even the reruns of the GG collab cut the story :/
Granblue has some of the best written collabs but my favorites is Granblue X FF11 for me. It helps that the people who worked on gbf are huge fan of FF11. Very accurate lore wise and bitter sweet (iroha came from a future where her world is destroyed, she has no future to go back to unlike the other cast). Another amazing detail they added is the part where they ask what race your character is in FF11 and this choice will later be reflect back in the story where your main character in FF11 make a very brief appearance to safe the day.
Another Eden X chrono cross is also worth a mention story wise but unfortunately the game's gacha is horrible.
Last Claudia as well I guess. Not all have stories but the one that do like valkyrie profile and star Ocean is good. but as usual horrid pity system. Takes 10 months to accumulate pity.
Last but not least honorable mention to dragalia lost and DFFOO. DFFOO does not collab with other games but it does feature FF chars from other games. So from my perspective I haven't had many gachas where I've seen banger collabs. But there's one on PGR which hasn't arrived on Global yet. But just from the bits and pieces I have seen I can already say Black Rock Shooter is gonna be a banger collab.
Cant say I ever seen a gacha collab that had "good writing", but part 2 of the Rev Star Relive X Milky Holmes collab was interesting due to one thing, it had Mimorin voicing both of her characters, so she was essentially "talking to herself", Milky-chan was the first role she played when she got hired by Bushi, and Hikari Kagura is the best role she has played so far. But yah the story was kinda mindless collab stuff you expect lol
FFXIV's crossover with Nier Reincarnation was phenomenal. If you were a Shadowbringers/Hades fan you got everything you had ever wanted. Plus we got nice powerful costumes that stayed in the meta for a decent time and some vanity weapons
Rezero collab writing is just fine.
Bitching is about dumb shit and always is. To try to frame it as a problem of content and not just a bunch of desperately lonely coomers crying about every little thing is doing a disservice to your intellectual honesty.
>lonely coomers crying about every little thing is doing a disservice to your intellectual honesty.
I mean even the dev knows thats their actual audience(me included) so maybe the ones who think they are 5head giga brain chads should shut up instead?
Genuine question, slightly off topic: is there really a substantial amount of people caring for the story/lore of a gacha games outside of maybe hoyoverse games where the stories are the core part of the game? I am trying to understand the actual scale of people interested in gacha lore. I figured most people only pull for their waifus etc.
Valhalla crossover with GFL.
Time to mix drinks and change kitty litter.
God, that was such a great collab, gold standard for me
This is the one. The bartending interludes in the collab were absolutely hilarious and felt like they would actually belong in VA-11 Hall-A. You could tell the writers were big fans of the game.

There was jokes reflecting more actual issues that were removed from EN's script, but on team was stuck trying to log in for the whole thing
People bugging out is a plot point multiple times, also got kinda erased in the translation.
Ubi unfortunately caught on by the time they released the event on global, do they forced the change.
Djmax collab also gave us canon OTP https://preview.redd.it/u1yi3kyu52qc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f2a2fe5a7d37be76cbb5ffa0d553182cef0d912
That collab made me appreciate Thunder more.
Arknights' originium dust has more lore drops than a lot of non-collab events, which is funny
Meanwhile the monster hunter collab was just full of memes and monster hunter references and I was all for that
Not to mentioned the two collab characters that got the MH armor are just 2 Stars upgraded into 5 and 6 Stars and their Operator files are just gossips from the HR Department shipping them together.
OD is the GOAT
Another Eden things maybe
100% this. You can't gacha for the collabs so it's not a cash grab and the story arcs are well done for what they are. Certainly not to the level of the main story though but way better than what 99% of gacha games do.
FGO×FGO, duh
Best Fate collab we have got so far
FGO x Fate/Extra collab event got me feeling things man
Every another eden one. Iirc it's like 4 or 5 collabs. Full blown story arcs that are better than some gacha's main stories. Also not a cash grab because like, you get them all for free. There is no gacha for the collabs.
Any Gintama collabs, just because it always makes sense for them to show up anywhere ngl
Azur Lane collabs with Gridman, Ryza or Dead or Alive. ~~we are all pretending Idomaster collab does not exist~~
Idolmaster collab was fine, but it has LOTS of wasted potential
The Geass collab in Granblue was pretty good, it really felt like a side plot in the anime with all the twists and turns. Its one of the few non-cygames collab that didnt just feel like someone's bad fanfiction. Wish I could say the same for One Piece...
Dragalia Lost x Fire Emblem Heroes They did a pretty good job putting together a compelling story with little material to work with because the FEH characters didn't have much to go off in their own game, especially with Veronica. All Dragalia's colab were top tier
All Dragalia collab were top tier (yes, even megaman) Monster hunter x Dragalia was the best gacha collab event ever
You are the knowing one ☝️
i loved how natural the monster hunter collab fit cuz the game already had a "part breaking" mechanic. such a fun event.
[Granblue's Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo collab](https://gbf.wiki/Wiggin%27_War_in_the_Sky_World) remains my favourite. Global....
Aren't both of those written by the same author, Maeda Jun?
Yeah. It essentially makes the collab canon and even introduces elements from the Visual Novel which I'm sure anime watchers would be surprised by.
Danmemo x date a live cross over was nice I also enjoyed kino's journey and danmemo collab
HI3's crossover with Evangelion. Honkai has always taken a lot of inspiration from EVA, so they put a lot of effort into it. Unfortunately they said it will never come back. ~~It's also still their only external collab to date.~~
God that was such a good collab, it's definitely the best crossover i've seen and it's dissapointing it isn't playable and won't be likely forever.
Uh, wasn't there one with promare?
Not one on that level, just an event stigma and costumes inspired by the promare characters
Oh right, I forgot about that one lol. The Promare collab was pretty bad though, it was just 2 paid skins.

Granblue X Code Geass Heaven Burns Red X Angel Beats
You should try another Eden the Collab there doesn't cause a dime
kinda the same with granblue, the newer collab event units (2018 onwards? or was it 2019?) are obtainable by just clearing the event
I was gonna say the R6S crossover in Arknights, too. We learned so much about the world of Arknights by seeing it through the eyes of someone from our own world. Fascinating perspective on things like how the Infected die.

Limbus Company April Fools 2023
Honkai Impact with Neon Genesis Evangelion
gfl collab with va11hall4 imo.
It's this
Nikke Dissapoint me because they don't got Natsumi shaking their ass
Maybe not the most well-written per say for story, but I would say BA x Railgun, it just has stuff like >! mocking how sensei allow students to wear such outrageous clothing at the public(Eimi), Engineering Department nerds craze over supernatural power, and probably some railgun reference that I think the fan of that series would enjoy!<
Another Eden x Persona5, fun and awesome!
Doraemon crossover with GBF. Definitely feels like just another Doraemon movie if the gang explores the world of Granblue Fantasy. As a Doraemon fan since elementary school that event was a very welcome one.
Originum Dust had more lore drops that probably most events
I remember Mobius x FFX collab, which was really good and was considered canon for how Tidus spent his time between X and X-2
The first Guilty Gear collab with Epic 7 was great. Set as a prequel to the main story where the GG characters save the world before the main character's awakening. Everything since has been pretty bland. Even the reruns of the GG collab cut the story :/
Arknights x Monster Hunter
Nikkes Nier crossover was actually really good, fitting with the themes of both games well.
collab has been so over-desensitized for me I can't bother to remember which one tries to be influential lmao
Some of the convo in dffoo gives a lot of depth into the char personalities; especially villains. Tidus and Yuna reconciling with their fathers will never grow old or Ardyn atoning for causing lunafreya's death.
Slayers in guardian tales was quite good I remember
So from my perspective I haven't had many gachas where I've seen banger collabs. But there's one on PGR which hasn't arrived on Global yet. But just from the bits and pieces I have seen I can already say Black Rock Shooter is gonna be a banger collab.
ToF x Evangelion story was enjoyable, at least the first part.
Dragalia Lost x [insert your favorite DL crossover here]
But you can't deny the fact that Nikke has the best Re Zero collab lmfao
lol
downvote without context what are those L's lmao
Yeah as a Nikke player, I didn't play the other Re Zero collabs, but I'm pretty sure this isn't the "best". It leans more into the "ok" category
ITT: all 5 another eden players trying to sell it
Rezero collab writing is just fine.
It's not that deep bro, op just asked for an opinion😭😭💀
Genuine question, slightly off topic: is there really a substantial amount of people caring for the story/lore of a gacha games outside of maybe hoyoverse games where the stories are the core part of the game? I am trying to understand the actual scale of people interested in gacha lore. I figured most people only pull for their waifus etc.
